FREE SCHOOL MEALS PROVISION Children whose parents receive the following support payments are entitled to receive free school meals: Income Support (IS); Income Based Jobseekers Allowance (IBJSA); an income-related Employment And Support Allowance (ESA) (this benefit was introduced on 27 October 2008) support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999; or Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs) that, as of 6 April 2011, does not exceed £16,190 the Guarantee element of State Pension Credit. If you think that you qualify for Free School Meals then please collect an application form from the display stand in the office reception area. Please note that if you no longer qualify you should advise the School Office immediately.

CONGRATULATIONS! I am sure you will want to join with me in congratulating Mrs Rose Everton who is expecting her second baby. We wish her all the best and look forward to meeting the new arrival! We would also like to congratulate Mr Tom Hamilton whose wife is expecting their first baby.

Hill West’s Got Talent! Friday 1st July If your child is intending to participate in this years Hill West’s Got Talent please ensure that you return the entry form by Friday 17th June. KS1 Auditions will be held in morning assembly at 9.00 am on Friday 1st July voting will take place during this assembly. KS2 auditions will be held at 6.30 pm. BBQ and bar available. Voting will take place on the night so bring all your supporters. Places for auditions will be limited.


BEHAVIOUR FOCUS - WAKE UP SHAKE UP We would kindly ask that you encourage all children to enter the playground at 8.45am and take part in our Wake Up Shake Up programme. Our KS2 pupils are role models for our younger children and we expect them to play a full and active part in the life of our school. With this commitment comes the rewards at the end of term. Many thanks to those Year 6 children who are now joining in.

REPORTS ARE CHANGING This year you will access your child’s report on-line. Letters will be issued to you via your child on Tuesday 5th July and these will contain your secure password enabling access to the report. This letter is extremely important as without it you will not be able to log on to the secure area and view the report. Although letters are being issued on Tuesday 5th July reports will not be available to view until 12pm on Friday 8th July. Your on-line reports will also include your child’s class and teacher for September 2012. If your child is away on the day your password letter will be posted. If you do not have access to the internet then you are welcome to come into school on the afternoon of Monday 11th July between 3:00pm - 4:00pm to collect a copy of your child’s report from the KS2 building entrance.

SPORTS DAY

PTFA FUN RUN We would like to say a big thank you and well done to all the children at Hill West who took part in the PTFA Fun Run on Sunday 22nd May. A big thank you also goes to the organisers of this years Fun Run, we really appreciate all your hard work.

Our Sports Day this year will be on Tuesday 5th July for all of our pupils. The last race of the day will be an obstacle course especially for our parents to take part in. We look forward to seeing you! KS2 - 9.30 am KS1 - 1.15 pm

CLUSTER CONCERT THURSDAY 23rd JUNE This year our Year 6 pupils will be taking part in the Cluster Concert hosted at The Arthur Terry School. They will showcase their talents along with other schools and groups from the local community. They will perform a short clip form their end of term leavers production and further details for parents will follow shortly.

AREA SPORTS EVENT Just a reminder that our Area Sports event will be taking place at Wyndley Athletic track at 1:30pm 6:00pm on Wednesday 29th June. Further details will be issued via letter from Mrs Sharp


Oxfam Water Week Oxfam Water Week is taking place at Hill West from Monday 11th July to Friday 15th July. Water Week is a new UK wide initiative that gives pupils the opportunity to learn about global issues, develop their skills and values as active global citizens and make a real difference.. Throughout the week children at Hill West will be thinking about ways they use water at home and at school, learn about the importance of water in people’s lives around the world and think about inequality in access to water. As well as water awareness activities in the classroom, members of staff along with our Year 5 children will also be running a shop in Sutton Mall all week, selling various items to raise money for Oxfam. We would be very grateful if you could come and visit us in store at some point that week, please send friends and relatives too. We will be opposite WHSmiths!

SPONSOR MONEY Could we ask that all sponsor money is returned to school forthwith. We would like to thank all those families who have already returned their monies and we would like to congratulate Liberty Byrne, and Kahrel Reddin in KS1 and Alison Teppin, Alannah Vyse and Will Knowles in KS2 on having the longest throws. Well done!

Oxfam Super School Hill West Primary School has won a Super School Award 2011 from Oxfam for having some of the most inspiring plans to raise awareness of water conservation. We are planning fun and informative activities throughout the week commencing 11th July, with our main events on THURSDAY 14th JULY. Children will be involved in various activities including:

Water Painting Mini African Garden Competition Rain Gauge Making Eco Shower Competition Water Bucket Relay We will also be making Thursday a non school uniform day, and would ask that all children come to school wearing blue.

WANTED SUMMER FAYRE MUMS & GIRLS AND DADS & LADS FOOTBALL Keen mums to play football against the girls in our traditional mums vs girls match at the summer fayre this year. Please contact Mrs Balla. We are also looking for dads to play in the Dads v Lads match. Anyone interested should contact Mr Pattinson in Year 5. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY ENTHUSIASM A MUST


INCLUSION FOCUS - Counselling Some of you may have been aware that Sam Harnett our Malachi Support worker has been poorly for the last three weeks. I am pleased to say that she is fully recovered and will be returning to school this Friday. She is looking forward to seeing the families she supports. If you think that you or someone in your family would benefit from free counselling then please do let us know. Although Sam is very busy we have additional capacity through an organisation called pro-health who are already helping some of our families.

LUNCHTIME SUPERVISOR VACANCIES We currently have vacancies in school for Lunchtime Supervisors Monday to Friday 11.55 am to 1.15 pm (6 hours 40 minutes per week) Application forms are available from the KS1office.

Cluster Days This year our annual Cluster Days will take place on; KS1 - Monday 4th July KS2 - Thursday 7th July This is an opportunity for children in our local schools to work together on shared projects and also have lots of fun with Theatre and dance performances

TRANSITION PARENTS’ MEETING This year, we are holding our annual transition evening for the parents of children in our current Reception, Year 2 and Year 6 on Wednesday 6th July and parents will be invited to attend at the following times: 5.30 - 6.00 Reception Parents 6.30 - 7.00 Year 2 Parents 7.30 - 8.00 Year 6 Parents We hope to see as many of you as possible


YEAR SIX LEAVERS’ PRODUCTION Our Year 6 Leavers’ Production this year will be held at 9.30 am on Wednesday 13th July and 7.00 pm on Thursday 14th July. Further details/ticket information will follow shortly.

Year Six Graduation This year our Year Six Graduation Ceremony will take place on Tuesday 19th July commencing at 7.00 pm. Further details/ticket information will follow shortly

AWARDS ASSEMBLY KS2 Tuesday 19th July 9.00 am KS1 Tuesday 19th July 2.30 pm If your child is being presented with an award this year you will be invited to attend our Annual Awards Assembly.

YEAR SIX LEAVERS’ FORMAL LUNCH This year for the third time our Year 6 pupils will be invited to a formal sitdown celebration meal at 1.00 pm on Monday 18th July. They will choose their 3 course menu in advance and their meal will be accompanied by alcohol free champagne. We will be sending out invitations soon and asking you to reply letting us know if your child would like to take part

UNIFORM SHOP The Uniform Shop will close its doors at 4.00 pm on Friday 15th July. After that date NO UNIFORM WILL BE SOLD. A stock take will take place the following week and this will prevent us from selling any further stock. We can take order forms with payment but will not issue the uniform until the new term starts. SO REMEMBER! FRIDAY 15TH JULY IS THE LAST DAY FOR BUYING UNIFORM FOR NEXT YEAR.
