t’s hard enough! You work enough to make enough and want to give back a little. But then you need to work more to figure out where your donations should go to make a real difference here in Dripping Springs. This should be easier! And it can be. The Dripping Springs Community Foundation has worked for years to provide a reliable road map to guide donors to the most effective local charities, and help charities communicate their mission and programs to the community-at-large. The week of April 17-24 marks the culmination of the Dripping Springs Community Foundation’s five month Givin’ Where I’m Livin’ campaign, which provides support and publicity for local charitable organizations and offers local residents a chance to see their donations doubled with matching funds.

The Givin’ Where I’m Livin’ campaign began last January at the Terrace Club with a Kick-Off event for participating local charities. It continued through February and March with Lunch ‘N Learn sessions sponsored by the City and the Chamber of Commerce, offering the staff of nonprofits training in leadership and grant resources. The Givin’ Where I’m Livin’ campaign crescendoes this month with the Week of Online Giving, April 17-24. Dripping Springers are encouraged to donate to their favorite local charities (or to the campaign at large) online starting at 12:01 am April 17 and continuing through 6 pm April 24. They can also donate in person at the Givin’ Where I’m Livin’ booth on Mercer Street during Founders Day festivities. See GIVIN’ WHERE I’M LIVIN’, page 2

Representatives from participating charities staff the Givin’ Where I’m Livin’ Founders Day Booth, often bringing along representatives from their organizations. Passersby might see a miniature pony from RED Arena at the booth, or therapy dogs from Service Dogs. Last year Emily Ann Theatre gave away live butterflies from their Butterfly Festival to delighted children in the Founders Day crowd. The donated total amounts are announced and awarded May 10 at the Awards Celebration Party at the Texas Hill Country Olive Company. The buffet dinner with cocktails offers a special opportunity for the community of local charities to network together and for the community-at-large to celebrate the benefits the groups bring to the Dripping Springs area. Last year’s Givin’ Where I’m Livin’ campaign raised $10,500 for local charities. Dee Mayer, Dripping Springs Community Foundation vice-president, says the group hopes to surpass that amount this year. Any non-profit organization listed in the “2016 Directory of Dripping Springs Area Non-Profit Organizations and Clubs” and/or registered as a Partner of the Givin’ Where I’m Livin’ 2016 Campaign is eligible to take part. Those qualifying organizations that registered as partners by January 31 are eligible to receive Dripping Springs Community Foundation matching funds. Matching funds are provided through Givin’ Where I’m Livin’ sponsorships, which are available at five different lev-

A smaller building in back is the new longterm home of Helping Hands Food Pantry. With 4,200 square feet, new plumbing and plenty of shelves, the new facility is a huge step up for the non-profit that has been serving hungry families in Dripping Springs out of an old house on the Methodist Church property. The building also includes several large classroom/meeting rooms available for community use. Between the two buildings is a stone patio area with an outdoor fireplace and protected seating. The patio is easialy accessible to both buildings. The Foundry will also play host to ecumenical youth gatherings in Dripping Springs. April 8-10, more than 300 youth from eleven area churches will converge on the Foundry for City Wide - a student retreat full of fun, friendships, worship, teaching and growth. Students from 6th 12th grades will share worship, work projects and overnight housing accommodations in Dripping Springs homes. “Dripping Springs is unique in that so many churches are willing to work together,” says Rev. Bradford.

Deanie Coulter LEFT and Vicki Rector cut the cake at the Foundry grand opening. Photo courtesy DSUMC. The Foundry was first imagined ten years ago, when the Dripping Springs United Methodist Church bought land next to its sanctuary on Ranch Road 12 for the project. In 2011, the church completed a Comprehensive Site Development Plan and the City approved a Planned Development District for the project. Ground breaking began in 2015. The Methodist congregation blessed the construction by writing prayers on slips of paper that were then embedded in the concrete foundation - making it truly a church “built on prayer.” FYI • The Foundry is located at 28900 Ranch Road 12 in Dripping Springs, adjacent to the Dripping Springs United Methodist Church. Modern Worship Services will be held in the Foundry at 11 am on Sundays, beginning May 1. The facilities are available for community use. Find family friendly fun at Founders Day Festival DRIPPING SPRINGS H Happy festival-goers will soon return to Dripping Springs for the community’s annual hometown event and springtime celebration. The 29th Annual Founders Day Festival April 22 – 24 will bring thousands of people converging on Dripping Springs’ historic downtown district for a festive celebration of heritage and pioneer spirit. The Annual Founders Day Festival honors the founding of Dripping Springs in 1850 by the Moss, Wallace, and Pound families and celebrates the tremendous spirit of volunteerism that still exists in the community today. Hosted by the City of Dripping Springs, Dripping Springs Lions Club, and the Founders Day Commission, which represents various community organizations, the proceeds from the weekend of live music, savory foods, and good old-fashioned fun directly benefit local non-profit organizations, churches, school and park programs, youth groups, and charities. This year’s theme is Destination Drippin.’ The festival will kick off Friday evening, April 22, at 6:30 pm, with a grand parade of 75 floats or entries. Bring a lawn chair and come early to find the perfect spot to view the impressive procession as it meanders through downtown Dripping Springs. The event will continue all weekend long with free live music and entertainment, street dances, the Mighty Thomas Carnival for kids, cook-off competitions, more than 150 arts and crafts vendors and business booths, tasty barbecue, and traditional fair food. In addition, many non-profit and charitable organizations will be represented. FYI • Get complete details about Founders Day on the web site at foundersdayfestival.com.
