We’ve all heard the old adage about beauty only being “skin deep.” Well, that may be true for some but, as one successful area practitioner of esthiology knows, cultivating a healthy exterior often equally enhances the condition of one’s emotional and physical state too. Or in other words, “looking good can make you feel good as well!” Just skin deep? Not at Wimberley’s remarkable (and definitely rejuvenating) new spa, the Genesis Beauty Company!

Founded in 2021 and solely operated by respected, veteran esthetician Sharla Edmondson, the Aveda Institute-trained and state certified (skin) specialist has spent the past year and a half helping a diverse area clientele achieve exciting results that not only provide stunning cosmetic benefits but can also affect one’s overall wellbeing. With a wide range of (modern as well as traditional holistic) treatment therapies available, working “from the epidermis inward” can alleviate stress-related issues while enriching our “outer selves.” And as an added benefit, the processes involved can be incredibly soothing as well. So, what’s an exceptional therapeutic Eden doing in bucolic Wimberley? It’s simple. Sharla, an East Texas farm girl who later moved to Austin with her husband (whose folks live nearby in Dripping Springs) missed the small-town feel. But just what is Esthiology? Basically, it’s the science of all things skin, regarding care. For Sharla’s clientele, that can mean exquisite facials that include waxing, dermaplaning, Gua Sha (more on that later) as well as lash and brow services. As Sharla relates, “When providing a facial I only use a medicalgrade, chemical-free holistic skin line that I pair with different modalities like oxygen treatments, microdermabrasion, nanoneedling or microcurrent – really, whatever it takes to ensure the positive outcomes that my clients expect.” And based on her growing repeat business at Genesis, she, professionally speaking, has become quite the go-to gal, especially with Wimberley’s discerning ladies – but you guys are welcome too!

And, as mentioned earlier, a lot of Genesis’ focus goes beyond a client’s appearance. As a practitioner of Gua Sha (an ancient Chinese facial massage), by using various stone tools, she can “untangle and iron out muscle fascia and connective tissue” that can aid in the elimination of headaches, congestion as well as lymphatic drainage in the face and neck. Sharla explains, “With Gua Sha, healing energy is moved through the body, improving circulation, curbing stress and strengthening one’s overall sense of wellbeing.” The beneficial results can usually be felt (and seen) immediately. Yep, that truly is looking good and feeling good!

Couple the wonderful therapies available at Genesis with its intimate treatment facility and a visit really does become something special. At only 300 square-feet of primarily naturally-lit working space enhanced with a relaxing décor that is further complemented by large windows overlooking natural greenspaces and it’s easy to see why guests so positively react to the comforting atmosphere further enriched by Sharla’s warm personality.
