SUSAN GIBSON Sharing the gift of song

inger-songwriter Susan Gibson loves the great outdoors. When she isn’t doing something musical, like writing songs or performing or teaching a workshop, she wants to be outside “puttering around, or walking with my dogs” (she has four) on her Wimberley property near the Blanco River. Reflecting on her childhood dream of being a forest ranger, she considers the possibility “that may have been just my desire for work that allowed for a lot of outdoor time.” It’s quite likely that Susan, whose song lyrics are meditative and often poignantly personal, is a kindred spirit to the many poets, philosophers, saints and ordinary people who seemed to understand, and often wrote about, the creative and therapeutic value of walking and being outdoors in nature. William Wordsworth, who is said to have walked more than 180,000 miles during his lifetime, described nature as “the guide and guardian of my heart.” About 150 years later another poet, Edward Hirsch, wrote that “walking brings a different sort of alertness, an associative kind of thinking, a drifting state of mind,” that was, for him,

intimately linked with his writing. In a similar vein, Susan says the very best part of songwriting, the most enjoyable part, is the feeling you have when you know, sometimes after getting close but not quite there multiple times, that you have finally found just the right phrase or line. “Songwriting is more discovery than invention,” she says. “I often write about my family – my sister, mom and dad, nieces and nephews – looking back to those people who have been the most influential in my life.” Music was important in her family and making music was encouraged. Her mother taught piano and sometimes sang harmonies along with her daughters. Susan sang in school and church choirs, eventually got a guitar and began composing her own songs, performed as a solo act and later with a band. The first song she ever wrote was called “The Beauty of the Change,” and she wrote it for a See SUSAN GIBSON, page 7
SUSAN GIBSON, from page 6 United Methodist Church retreat for empty nesters that her mother attended just after Susan graduated from high school. Words don’t seem to matter as much to some listeners and modern musicians because for them it’s all about the beat and the sound, but for Susan, “music is the vehicle to get the lyrics out.” All the folks love songwriters in the circles she travels in. She plays a lot of house concerts where all the audience members actively listen, picking out the lyrics. “Those people aren’t there for the chicken wings, or to play darts or find a date,” she says, “they are there for the songs and stories.” For eight years, Susan has worked with children, ages 10 to 18, at a music camp, “Real Life, Real Music” at the Dosey Doe in The Woodlands, Texas. These workshops last a week and offer participants sessions with professional songwriters (like Susan), recording, rehearsing and a showcase performance before an audience. Susan says there’s a misconception that you have to know something specific or have a certain skill set to write a song. “We all speak and are capable of telling stories – speech itself is lyrical and rhythmic. Also, everyone writes some crappy songs, without exception,” she says,“it’s called the writing process, not the writing finished project.” In some ways, kids are easier to work with because they’re already braver and bolder, and they’ll take chances when writing their songs that adults are afraid to. It’s important to get in and get up close to the material, but it’s also necessary to step back at a certain point because finishing the song requires more detachment. “Working with young songwriters is inspiring,” she says, “and it’s fun to see a light bulb come on.” The young songwriter’s tendency to take more chances, to stay close to the material rather than edit too soon, and to be enthusiastic over “Eureka” moments of discovery are reminders that all of this is actually fun. And, Susan says, “Writing songs, telling stories is therapy for sure.” For many of the military veterans who participate in “Soldier Songs and Voices,” a weekly songwriting and guitar workshop hosted by Dustin Welch at Cheatham Street Warehouse in San Marcos, music has been the ultimate in therapy. Some have credited the organization, which offers music and songwriting lessons to veterans free of charge and provides them with guitars, with quite literally saving their lives and getting them back on track in the civilian world. Susan has volunteered at some of these workshops, sharing what she knows about crafting songs and performance strategies and offering feedback as needed. She says, “Feedback boosts confidence and answers questions like ‘Is my message coming through?’ and is most valuable to someone who is exploring new territory.” For more information about Susan Gibson and to see her schedule
of upcoming workshops, classes, house concerts and other performances, visit her website at www.susangibson.com. WVACA Wimberley Valley Arts & Cultural Alliance By Bonnie Eissler
W
imberley isn’t a particularly large town, according to the number of residents, but it boasts a disproportionately large population of artists, many of whom are nationally and even internationally recognized. With a steady stream of visitors, Wimberley has been a not-so-hidden gem and a retreat for artists, musicians and writers for many years. And the town is really big when it comes to community spirit and camaraderie. There are many genres of fine arts and crafts to be found in Wimberley, including paintings (oils, pastels, watercolors) sculptures, photography, pottery, glass, jewelry, textiles, and creative crafts too numerous to specify. The performing arts are also well represented with live music venues, indoor and outdoor theaters, bands and orchestras. “The visual and performing arts community in Wimberley is large and diverse and needs to be promoted, both for the artists themselves as well as for all the residents and visitors who enjoy seeing art exhibits, attending plays and concerts,” says Pam Rudd, current president of Wimberley Valley Arts and Cultural Alliance (WVACA). WVACA was formed in 2013 by a group of local businesses and organizations, including the local library, radio station, Wimberley Institute of Cultures, and the Chamber of Commerce. They sponsor many creative projects and special events to foster local art and culture while greatly enriching the lives of people in Wimberley and surrounding areas. They encourage and advance the artistic community in three significant areas – appreciation, collaboration, and education – with meet and greet events, an annual arts expo, second Saturday Gallery Trail, the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) program with the school district, public art projects and fundraisers. The “Empty Bowl” fundraiser for Wimberley’s Crisis Breadbasket raised money by selling soup bowls decorated by local student and adult artists. Wimberley was designated a Cultural District by the Texas Commission for the Arts in 2015, one of 36 such districts across the state. Not every gallery or theater is included in this district because the area is supposed to be walkable, so the sites on the map are all located in and around Wimberley Square. The Gallery Trail takes place on the second Saturday of each month. There’s wine, music and light refreshments as galleries and shops stay open until 7 PM or later, offering a festive atmosphere for newcomers or regular patrons to see the art, perhaps meet the artists and find that perfect piece of art to add to their art collection, for a special gift or to decorate their home or office. The annual Art Expo takes place at the Wimberley Village Library in October and is a wonderful opportunity to meet artists, gallery owners, musicians, photographers, and art suppliers. In 2017, there were about twenty participants. This event is a good time for those individuals who don’t have gallery representation to show their work. One of the best and most visible public art projects, Bootiful Wimberley, is a WVACA project that began in 2014. Fifty six-foot tall fiberglass cowboy boots, all painted in distinctive styles by local artists, are displayed in public places – stores, business offices, restaurants, galleries, inns, theaters, the library, visitor center – that sponsored a boot. A splashy debut with a big party brought what seemed like the entire town out to the community center to walk among the beautiful boots admiringly before they were installed at their sponsor
8 Welcome to Wimberley Fall/Winter 2018-19
locations. A map is available to help you locate all of them, and it’s a fun outing to track them all down and take the time to appreciate a genuine work of art in giant boot form and the artists who made each one so unique. There’s an agreement with the sponsors that the boots remain on display for a certain period of time, but after that period is up, if the owner changes locations or retires or just decides to take his boot home, then another boot is commissioned to keep the total number at fifty. A new boot was recently installed at Wimberley Chiropractic on Ranch Road 2325. The design certainly seems to fit the business with two human skeletons on a vibrant blue background with lots of colorful flowers. For more information, visit: www.wimberleyarts.org, www.bootifulwimberley.com. and www.Facebook.com/wimberleyarts. The Wimberley Valley Arts and Culture Alliance has monthly board meetings on the first Wednesday of each month at 8:15 AM and general meetings at 9:15 AM at the Visitor Center located at 14100 Ranch Road 12. They also have quarterly meetings that are open to the public at various art venues in Wimberley.

f you’re looking for a spot where you can enjoy a nice evening out with friends and family while indulging in a cold beverage and catching a beautiful Hill Country sunset, the Shady Llama fits the bill. All members of your family are welcome to this outdoor beer and wine garden, so bring your children and well-behaved dogs.
Karalisa and Lamar Sellers opened The Shady Llama in March 2018. The two met in Austin in 2008, bonded over their love of craft beer, tied the knot, and relocated to Houston for their careers (Lamar was an attorney and Karalisa worked in commercial insurance). Over time, they decided they wanted to create something together in the Hill Country. “We had this dream to start something together. We both enjoyed our jobs but wanted to do something where we could be together all day,” Lamar explains. The couple made that dream a reality in January 2017 when they purchased property just outside of Wimberley. Lamar explains, “We ended up falling in love with this property.” Several llamas came along with the acreage and they decided to make them part of the operation and have since added to their herd. Karalisa smiles, “We’ve been surprised by the interest in the llamas See SHADY LLAMA, page 12

SHADY LLAMA, from page 11 and how many people come out just to see them. They make for a fun bar mascot.” Resident llamas include Dolly (who loves neck rubs and kisses), Odin, Sadie, Anastasia, and the property’s newest addition, Barley. Lamar and Karalisa also have two miniature donkeys. The animals roam the property and are allowed to come and go as they please. In addition to the wildlife that makes the Shady Llama unique, you’ll also find 24 beers on tap. “The point of the business was to highlight Texas craft beer. Our taps rotate all the time,” Lamar explains. “When something runs out, we try to put something new on. The wall changes from day to day.” You’ll also find local Texas wines, offered through a partnership with local vineyards and featuring an extensive rotating selection of bottles and wines-by-the-glass to choose, plus soda and iced tea. There’s live music on Friday nights and food trucks available during most business hours. “We try to have something for everyone,” Lamar says. “We wanted to make it a place we would want to hang out with our daughter.” In this spirit, the couple installed a children’s play area with a rock box and running bridge. The beer and wine garden offers plenty of room for guests of all ages, and you and can also indulge in a game of cornhole or just relax in a hammock. Lamar says he and Karalisa don’t miss their former busy lifestyle, but instead, are enjoying the rewards that come with working full-time together on the business, parenting their two-year old daughter, and being what they call, “sunset connoisseurs.” “We’re so grateful we found this property,” Lamar says. “And we’re thrilled to be able to be a part of this community,” Karalisa smiles. Karalisa and Lamar plan to expand their hours and add special events as their business grows, so keep an eye on the website for announcements. And because it is an outdoor business, be sure to check the Shady Llama’s social media outlets to verify business hours if the weather looks unfavorable. The Shady Llama is located at 18325 Ranch Road 12 on the west side of the highway, just five miles north of the Wimberley town square and ten miles south of Dripping Springs. Their hours are Thursday – Friday 4 pm to 10 pm, Saturday noon to 10 pm, and Sunday from noonto 9 pm. You can email them at theshadyllamatx@gmail.com, or follow them on Instagram or Facebook @TheShadyLlama.

emember Grandma’s big sugar cookies (she called them tea cakes) that always appeared like magic in the cookie jar whenever visitors came around and, though delicious, they weren’t iced or even sprinkled with sugar. For special occasions, they might be glazed with icing and some colored sprinkles. Cindy Hunter, owner of Sweet Water Cookies, elevates Grandma’s simple tasty sugar cookie to a whole other dimension with her custom creations, beautifully decorated in a dizzying array of whimsical colorful patterns. “All I ever really wanted was to be a wife and mother,” says Cindy, who has three daughters, two granddaughters, one grandson, and will celebrate her 30th wedding anniversary in September. Although she set her sights primarily on home and family, Cindy was always doing something creative. As a teenager, she was captivated by the cake decorating skills of a high school boyfriend’s mother. “I could spend hours just watching her work,” Cindy says, “she was a great inspiration to me.” Cindy took a cake decorating class and started making special birthday cakes and wedding cakes, but she later realized her true calling was making cookies. A customer from Kyle who hosts a huge Christmas party every year hired her to make something special for this festive event. “I made sugar cookies with buttercream icing,” Cindy says. She started looking online and found an amazing artist “who expresses herself through cookies,” lives in a small town somewhere in Texas, blogs as Sweet Sugar Belle, and could give Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster a run for his money, writing “Everything I see becomes a cookie in my head.” Cindy had found her muse. “This was exactly what I wanted to do,” she said, “but it didn’t happen.” Cindy had the opportunity to observe the event industry up close when she worked for an event planner. She also worked for a while at a flower shop and continued to provide the large order every year for the Christmas party in Kyle. She’d be working on those cookies late into the night and having a blast, clearly in her element. “My husband, Bart, told me I should find something to do that would bring me as much enjoyment as I got from making those cookies. He’s the one who encouraged me to start my own business,” Cindy says, “and now he helps with baking and deliveries.” As a seventh generation resident of Hays County, Cindy feels a close connection to the area’s many streams, creeks and rivers. “I named my business Sweet Water

Cookies because I’ve always loved the water,” Cindy says. “Often when I’m in Wimberley, I’ll stop to sit by a bridge or on a bench just to enjoy being near the water and listening to it.” After the Memorial Day flood in 2015, she became temporarily disenchanted with water because the beauty and serenity she associated with it were overtaken with images of the devastation caused by the flood. At the same time, she felt a strong desire “to do something that I’m truly passionate about,” thus renewing her enthusiasm for Sweet Water Cookies. On the first day of school after that summer, someone asked Cindy, “Do you have cookies?” and she didn’t have any, but she told her that anyone who wanted to could go to the Facebook page and place an order, and “by the end of the day I had $500 in cookie orders.” The orders kept coming. back-to-school, graduation, baby showers, wedding showers, bachelorette parties – all of the usual and not-so-usual occasions seem to go better with a platter of Sweet Water Cookies. Cindy typically has at least three different designs for a party theme. For a beach-themed party, there are starfish, sand dollars, beach scenes with “sand” and palm trees, seagulls and even a tiny pair of flip-flops. It’s these lovely little details that set Cindy’s creations apart. “I try to give my cookies personality,” she says. Mission accomplished. Perusing Sweet Water Cookies online portfolio of decorated cookies can be addictive. A cookie decorated like a doughnut? Absolutely! Doughnuts with pink icing and sprinkles to munch along with sugar cookie cups of coffee for a police officer’s birthday. Another perfect, and perfectly whimsical, design is the chemical 2D structure for oxytocin to decorate cookies destined for a meeting of midwives. Sweet Water Cookies typically limits production to 25 dozen a week, although in August Cindy decorated 75 dozen in one week, which included 400 to donate for a benefit. “Every day something surprises me,” Cindy says, “this is what I’m supposed to do.” For more information about these beautiful custom decorated sugar cookies, or to place an order, contact Sweet Water Cookies via Facebook message, or email Cindy at cindy@sweetwatercookies.com.

Useful Numbers & Information
In the 1850s, Wimberley had a grist mill, tannery, store, shoe shop, and a school that was also used as a church and meeting hall. By the 1870s, it also had a blacksmith. By 1880, the Post Office was set up. By 1900, nine houses were built around the square. By the 1920s, the county finally started to improve roads in and out of the village (the road to San Marcos was paved in 1921). By 1939, electricity was available. The population tripled from 1880 to 1947, based on estimates by the Post Office, to a little more than 400 people.

Circa Soap Apothecary
22   Welcome to Wimberley Fall/Winter 2018-19
by Bonnie Eissler
Photos courtesy Circa
Circa Soap Apothecary offers fine bath products including soaps, lotions and scrubs, Turkish bath towels, linen and cotton gowns. A truly beautiful store, Circa’s interior space is a delight to the senses, even a little bit magical, stirring memories of those ancient apothecaries who meticulously mixed herbs and oils – two parts grandmother’s flower garden, one part Harry Potter. Gina Maples, mother of three and Wimberley resident for 16 years, purchased Circa a year ago. “ The previous owner wanted a French luxury store,” she says, and the casually elegant ambience still reflects that idea, although Gina has added new product lines, expanded other areas, and definitely put her own stamp on the décor and presentation. She takes great care with the details and creative presentation of products. Vintage and antique furnishings – chandeliers, cabinets and tables, farmhouse sink, pie safe, wooden trunk – are all practical and most often provide storage or display space. A vintage medicine cabinet holds essential oils and perfumes such as Tokyo Milk and Lollia. An antique European baby tub on a stand is lined with burlap for a rustic look and filled with “bath bombs,” a great gift that’s fragrant, fizzy, fun, and a bargain at $3 each. “I want everyone who comes to the store to feel like they can buy something,” Gina says. Circa has an area dominated by an old extra large farmhouse sink where customers can test hand soaps, lotions, and scrubs, something Gina encourages. “It’s important to test, and it’s part of the experience,” Gina says. She also likes to take the time to describe the products because their history is often interesting. “Everything has a story,” she says. B.Witching Bath Co. is a new line just in at Circa that has a fascinating origin story. The owner began her company using her grandmother’s notebooks that were filled with recipes for lotions, creams, salves and balms that she started making at home in the 1960s. She used roses and lavender from her garden and other ingredients to make the early versions of the natural honey soap, arthritis rubs and other items the company produces today. Although Circa carries items from as far away as France and as close by as Austin, the guiding principle for deciding what to offer at the store is that they have natural ingredients and often are produced in small batches. Austin-based Kuhdoo was the first line that Gina brought to Circa, after meeting the husband and wife owners at their pop-up store and seeing them often at Wimberley Market Days. She fell in love with their small batch produced soaps and candles. “The day after we bought this store, we contacted them asking to carry their line,” Gina says, “they’re great and have tons of fun stuff.” Another company that Gina likes is In the Weeds, from San Antonio. Their signature item, the one that made their name, is Dollface, an all-natural face scrub and mask for sensitive skin that sounds good enough to put on a salad, is made from organic sugar and lemons, raw honey, and a blend of natural and essential oils. For anyone mystified about exactly what essentials oils are, they’re liquid aroma compounds from natural sources – spearmint and lavendar and hundreds more, including that renowned quartet of medicine and music, “parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.” Gina says some of her best customers are men. “It’s pretty amazing, but a lot of the time there are more men than women in here,” she says. She added items to appeal to the men in a gorgeous display with beard oils, moustache wax, shaving brushes, soaps, razors, and solid cologne on tables decorated with black and white photographs of Victorian era gentlemen, old books and vintage shaving accessories. Circa Soap Apothecary is at 14015 Ranch Road 12, Suite 15.Hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 10:30 am to 5 pm, Friday 10:30 am to 5:30 pm, Saturday 10:30 am to 6 pm, and Sunday hours vary. the Find by Bonnie Eissler
T
The Find owners, mother and daughter duo Calli Swindle and Pam Couch (right).
he Find, a trendy boutique offering clothing, shoes, jewelry and other accessories, as well as home décor and gifts, opened two years ago on River Road in Wimberley. The owners are Pam Couch and Calli Swindle, a mother-daughter duo who are likely familiar faces to some of the locals. “We feel close to the people of Wimberley,” Pam says, “residents from here have been shopping at our store in San Marcos (Two P’s and Calli’s Boutique) for many years and we appreciate them.” For those mothers and daughters out there who seldom make it through lunch without drama, and for any other skeptics, Pam says, “There are some challenges, but we enjoy each other and love doing this together.” They apparently have highly compatible personalities. “Calli and I will go to Market (in Dallas) and people there will say, ‘y’all are so easy to work with’,” Pam has been interested in retail since she was in high school. “After I was married, when we lived in Austin, I did home shows and private parties during the Christmas season. We had about fifteen different vendors and people really enjoyed the shopping experience.” The home shows became quite a lucrative seasonal business and were a great experience. “The ladies in my church encouraged me, and See THE FIND, page 27
THE FIND, from page 26 someone from the Austin Statesman came out to interview us,” she said. After moving to San Marcos, Pam decided to open a business, starting out with 400 square feet. (Today, Two P’s and Calli’s Boutique, located near the Outlet Mall in San Marcos, has fifteen times more space.) Calli started helping out in the San Marcos boutique when she was in high school. Pam says, “Of course, she grew up around the business, learned all about customer service from a young age, and she is a very giving and caring person.” One of Pam and Calli’s favorite parts about working together is going to Market to select merchandise for the store. Pam says, “We decide everything together. Sometimes I say no and sometimes she says no, but we’ve done this long enough to respect and trust each other’s decisions.” Tribal a favorite vendor for both Pam and Calli. The company was founded in 1970 and has grown into one of the country’s leading women’s sportswear companies. Their styles are versatile, polished and affordable. “Of course, Calli and I don’t dress the same,” Pam says, “because of the difference in our ages, but we both like denim – and denim is always a good look in Texas.” Pam adds that today is an exciting time in fashion because there’s so much crossover in style, without as much division between the markets for older and younger women. For example, kimonos are casual and cool styles that work for all ages and sizes. “A young college girl will wear her kimono with shorts, while an older woman might wear that same kimono with jeans,” Pam says. Pam sees the Wimberley lifestyle as “classy but comfy – casual with lots of opportunities during the year to dress up and sparkle.” But she adds that they are still trying to figure out what the best fit
is for Wimberley customers – what works and what doesn’t. They recently added some tank tops and tees that were specifically designed for Wimberley. The tops are made out of a wonderfully soft fabric and have a deer with flowers on antlers design. The OTBT (for “off the beaten track”) shoes merit a special mention. “ I’ve been in this business for 25 years and this is the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn, ” Pam says. Like the kimonos, these are suitable for all ages from college girls to senior citizens. You can See THE FIND, page 28

spend ten hours walking around in them at Market Days and still feel fine. Pam especially enjoys the opportunity to work with women who come in the store needing something for a particular occasion, but feeling like there isn’t anything there for them. “We can always find something, no matter what her age or size, that will make her feel beautiful inside and out,” she says. She’s also excited that The Find is planning some special events for the cheerleaders at Wimberley High School this year, as a way to show support for these young women and the community. They will have a private shopping event for the group along with their mothers, as well as some other surprises during the school year. The Find is located at 111 River Road, Suite 200A. The boutique is open Tueday through Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm. For more information, visit the website at thefindtexas.com, or call 512-722-3592.

T
he Blanco River is one of Wimberley’s natural attractions. Mild winters allow the opportunity to get out on the river almost year-round, and thanks to the newly-opened Blanco River Outfitters, visitors and locals alike can now do just that. General manager Amanda Calaway explains, “We opened the outfitters store to accommodate people looking for river products. We have a variety of river tubes and floats for all ages, protective phone cases, goggles and snorkel sets, swimwear, swim shoes, sunscreen, and towels. We try to carry everything you need to get in the water.” You’ll find plenty of souvenir T-shirts specific to the Blanco River, 7A Ranch, Wimberley, and Texas, plus small souvenirs and trinkets — key chains, mugs, shot glasses, koozies, magnets, postcards, and retro 7A postcards. Amanda explains, “We also sell a variety of fun kid’s items such as arts and craft items, outdoor items, camping gear, lanterns, travel activities, and classic kid games.” Their line of Texas Hill Country artisan products - LuBella hand forged candles, Old Factory soaps and bath salts, and coffee from D’s Roastery make perfect take-home gifts. The new shop also offers boutique items including swimwear and cover ups by Roxy, Reef, and O’Neill for women; men’s Salty Crew, Quiksilver, and O’Neill swimming apparel; and Quiksilver and Roxy swim apparel for children. Plus, you’ll find footwear by Malvados, Roxy, and Quiksilver. Blanco River Outfitters is located at 7A Ranch and also offers Blanco river day access from Memorial Day through Labor Day for $10 a person. They provide a summer locals’ day discount for all Hays County residents on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for just $5 per person (please be prepared to show a form of ID). Off-season access is available for just $5 per person, so plan to take advantage of our beautiful Texas weather all year. In addition to selling floats and tubes, kayaks are available for rental year-round. Pricing begins at $15 per hour for a single and $25 per hour for a tandem. They also offer two-hour pricing at $25/single and $35/tandem, and full day access for $50/$75. 7A Ranch, beloved Wimberley landmark since 1946, was severely impacted in the 2015 Memorial Day Flood and underwent a massive renovation, but still retains its original Pioneer Town. In this 1880’s Western “town,” you’ll find an arcade with old-school video games, air hockey, a pool table, Skee-Ball, and an ice cream parlor that serves Blue Bell Ice Cream, milkshakes and ice cream floats. The ranch can accommodate small and large overnight groups, with many options. Individual units accommodate 4, 6 or 12 guests. The ranch is a great venue for reunions and retreats, with larger lodges that can accommodate up to 40. For the budget conscious, they offer two units of fourplexes. And the classics units provide more of a rustic feel, but with modern amenities. The grounds offer many activities for overnight guests — a swimming pool, stargazing, roasting smores. The addition of Blanco River Outfitters allows both day access guests and overnight guests the ability to be able to wade, kayak, or float in the river, no matter what they may have left at home. Amanda smiles, “We’re very family oriented. We want people to be able to make memories here. As the resort has grown and changed, we felt there was a need for people to purchase things for the river and leave with a really cool souvenir.” Blanco River Outfitters is located inside the main office at 7A Ranch, at 333 Wayside Drive. For more information, visit the website at 7aranch. co, email info@7aranch.co, call 512-847-2517, or follow on Facebook and Instagram. Hours vary, usually open 8 am to 4 pm daily.

Born and raised in San Francisco, CA, Linda attended San Francisco State College, majored in Business, and then spent more than 25 years in retail management for major retailers. Outstanding customer service has always been a high priority in Linda’s retail career and remains her number one priority in working with her Real Estate clients. She is a member of the National and Texas Association of Realtors, as well as the Austin and Four Rivers Board of Realtors. Linda and her husband, Gene, moved to Wimberley 15 years ago and both are active, involved members of the Wimberley community. Barbara Latimer, Broker/Branch Manager Hills of Texas / Sky Realty Broker/Owner at Hills of Texas Realty, Barbara merged her company with Sky Realty in 2015 to form Hills of Texas Sky Realty. Her 20+ years’ experience and knowledge of the market provides the highest level of service for her clients. “It’s work I love. There is nothing else I’d rather do, she says. “There are challenges to working in a rural market, but I thrive on those challenges. Every property is unique and interesting. I love problem solving and helping my clients.” Well, septic and Oak wilt inspections are typical occurrences for Barbara, but to urban agents they can be foreign. A local market expert and a Texas Monthly magazine “Five Star Real Estate Agent” for the last 8 years, it is obvious Barbara loves her career and is eager to help buyers and sellers. Her clients definitely count on her expertise, but they also love her approach. She’s the whole package and say things like, “We interviewed several agents, but we wanted someone we could connect with,” says one client. “Barbara walked in the door, and her enthusiasm and attention to detail won us over. She’s definitely the reason we were able to finalize the sale.” Originally from Houston and a graduate of the University of Texas, Barbara and her family moved to Wimberley in 1997. In her free time, she and her husband, Gaylan, enjoy boating, live music venues and exploring the Hill Country.
Betty & Steve Giannone, GRI, SRS, RSPS, MRP, Luxury Collection & Presidents Circle

Steve’s background is in the mortgage industry, which equips him with outstanding value analysis and negotiating skills. Betty’s experience is in real estate marketing where she honed her skills at reaching out to buyers for national development companies. With their combined talents, specializing in marketing and transaction management they offer both buyers and sellers a distinct advantage in the real estate marketplace. Steve attended St. Thomas in Houston, and he enjoys watching professional sports and chasing a small white ball in Texas wide open spaces. Betty grew up in Chicago but moved to Austin for the music in the late ’70s. She also enjoys chasing the white ball, just from several strokes behind. Together they have raised three fine young men in Wimberley. Trust, integrity, stability and longevity are the hallmarks of Don Johnson REALTORS, the area’s oldest real estate brokerage. Founded by Don and Ann Johnson more than 50 years ago, the company currently has four offices and 150 Realtors. State of the art technology and an unyielding commitment to customer service are the tools and ideals we think give our clients an advantage in the real estate market place.
