skillfully capturing life’s precious moments

Lisa Motley

Lisa Motley By BONNIE EISSLER

L

isa Motley knew from an early age that she wanted to be an artist and, unlike many eight year olds who abandoned their ambitions to be an astronaut, a movie star, or a marine biologist, Lisa held on tightly to those childhood dreams. She has “drawn hundreds and hundreds of faces” for as long as she can remember, sketched and painted, studied and taught art for a lifetime. Although she has explored all of the other artistic media, her favorites are watercolor and fabric dye on silk, both of which require a lot of skill and practice. “Watercolor is not forgiving and doesn’t allow for changes,” Lisa says, “and painting on silk is a long process that requires patience and persistence. Lisa studied Fine Art and Business with an accounting concentration at Texas State University, a double focus that has allowed her to pursue an art career and manage her own art business. As a certified art teacher, only recently retired, Lisa has taught all ages, from three and four year olds to octogenarians. She taught private lessons from her studio and art classes in public and private schools. She believes that everyone is an artist because creativity is an essential characteristic of our being, and we express our God-given creativity in many different ways. “Creativity is so important,” Lisa says, “especially during these chaotic times when so many people are reinventing their businesses and finding alternative ways to navigate unfamiliar territory.” Her artwork has been exhibited at the United States Botanical Gardens Museum in Washington D.C., The Art Museum of South Texas in Corpus Christi, and The Rockport Art Center. For many years, she participated in the Rockport Art Festival and her work has been represented by numerous galleries in south Texas. For the 100th anniversary celebration of the United States National Parks in 2016, Lisa’s silk painting was chosen for the special exhibit at the U.S. Botanical Gardens Museum in Washington, D.C. The contest required portrayal an endangered tree or flower in one of the national parks. The goal of the exhibit was to educate people about the at risk trees and flowers, and to foster appreciation of the amazing diversity of plant life in the 6   Welcome to Wimberley Spring/Summer 2021

parks, which are truly national natural treasures of this country. “The painting is a gray lily, an endangered flower in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, that’s named after a famous botanist named Gray,” Lisa says. “It’s very colorful and not gray in color at all.” For her artistic inspiration, Lisa paints what is closest to her heart. She started by painting portraits of her own family and has been painting family portraits for a large clientele for over 30 years. “My passion is drawing and painting precious moments, and these moments are usually captured in photographs that clients send to me,” Lisa says. The Affordable Place to Meet!

The Edge of Change by Martha Gibson

According to the client’s preference, she either draws the subject with graphite, or paints with watercolor. Everyone has a story to tell and Lisa’s portraits are a perfect way to freeze those magical moments in time: senior quarterback at his last game, a girl barrel racing, kids on the first day of school, a high school graduation or a dad’s dance with his daughter at her wedding. Vacation memories are often the subject of Lisa’s paintings and drawings, and have included a couple on a camel during a trip to Egypt, a day at the beach in Hawaii, and a trip to Disney World. For her silk paintings, Lisa uses habotai silk, a shimmering fabric once used mostly for making silk kimono, that absorbs and captures the jacquard dyes beautifully, resulting in rich deep colors. “I take my own photos and draw them onto the silk,” Lisa says, “then steam in a steamer for an hour at 210 degrees to create a chemical reaction and set the dyes.” The beliefs that Lisa had even as a child about the value of art have never left her. “Art is essential for everyone, it’s good for you, it’s motivating and raises self-esteem.” She is currently working on several projects, including a painting of a little girl hugging a goat. Photos courtesy Lisa Motley. FYI • Contact Lisa by email at motleyarts@yahoo.com to ask how to commission a painting and she will guide you through the process. Lisa is delighted to be one of the more than 50 artists represented at Art on 12, a gallery featuring local, regional and nationally known artists, voted “Best in Wimberley” for the fifth year in a row in 2020. Longleaf Craft Kitchen + Bar By BONNIE EISSLER

T

he Longleaf Craft Kitchen + Bar takes its name and aesthetic from the Longleaf Pine, an amazingly resilient and long-lived southern yellow pine that, although now endangered, once had a range of 90 million acres including the Piney Woods forests in East Texas. The walls of the restaurant/ bar are covered with longleaf pine panels, enhancing the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Randa Ryan, who owns the restaurant with her husband Steve, says “The concepts of exceptionality and quality (of the Longleaf Pine) are at the heart and soul of our dining vision.” Randa and Steve bring extensive business experience to Longleaf, along with a strong commitment to the community and its citizens. They, along with their four sons, have owned and operated the Old Mill Store on the square for 37 years. “Our goal is to keep the Square lined with family businesses,” Randa says, giving voice to the shared hopes of locals and many visitors who appreciate the unique character and quirky charm of Wimberley. Although nothing and no place stays the same forever, the idea at least of an idyllic place remote from reality, like the mythical Scottish village of Brigadoon, untouched by time and home to artistic and adventurous people, is most appealing. Randa tells the story of how they acquired their superb chef, Glen Trumble. “One day a gentleman came into Longleaf and introduced himself, saying he lived ‘off the grid’ at Canyon Lake, but loved to cook. ‘Do you have any openings?’ he asked. It wasn’t long before we learned that he was no run-of-the-mill cook. He’d trained and worked in restaurants in Europe for many years . . . and his food was amazing,” Randa says. As a result of Chef Glen’s extraordinary culinary skills and creative talents, Longleaf offers exciting menu selections featuring delicate sauces served with perfectly prepared food.

8   Welcome to Wimberley Spring/Summer 2021

The chef-inspired menu prioritizes local sources and changes seasonally depending on what is fresh and available from local ranches and farmers and the Texas Gulf Coast. “We want to keep community support at home,” Randa says, “and we want to give our customers the best that Texas has to offer.” There are many delectable appetizer, main, side and dessert choices, with too many standouts to mention other than several that get so many rave reviews they’re impossible to ignore. fried anchovy-stuffed olives, deviled eggs topped with a fried oyster, potato and goat cheese tart, crispy potatoes, eggplant Parmesan, shrimp and avocado salad are all consistently good and are highly recommended. The menu lists specific wine suggestions for the entrees, a helpful guide for those of us who aren’t that knowledgeable about which wines work best with Texas Hill Country Quail, Gulf Coast Red Snapper, or Blackened Pork Chop. “Longleaf rotates wine and beer selections to feature local breweries,” Randa says, also noting that the full service craft cocktail bar is unique to Wimberley Square. For many people, the restaurant’s outdoor seating, nicely spaced over the peaceful, oak shaded courtyard and sculpture garden, has been a welcome oasis, a refuge during months of limited inside seating, mandatory masks and distancing. They also appreciate that the friendly and attentive wait staff give customers the time and space to socialize and linger over wine, coffee or a creamy butterscotch budino. COFFEE and

so much more...

Blanco Brew

By BONNIE EISSLER

O

n March 15, 2020, Blanco Brew celebrated their one year anniversary and the very next day Texas shut down as concerns mounted due to the COVID 19 pandemic. In a year that has been devastating to many small business owners, Rachel Emry, owner of the coffee shop since 2019, says “we’ve actually done very well.” The unexpected crisis, that lingered on longer than anyone expected, motivated Rachel to adapt to the various changes and restrictions. She says, “I was determined to make myself essential as quickly as possible.” For six weeks, Blanco Brew operated as a grocery store, selling staples such as sugar, flour, butter, and eggs. “We even sold toilet paper and cleaning products,” Rachel says, essential items that were initially in short supply and rationed, as customers cleared the shelves at the major grocery stores in the area. Rachel and the highly efficient staff at Blanco Brew found other ways to get their delicious pastries and beverages to customers, including curbside pickup and delivery service. They bought more patio furniture and doubled their outside seating area, and expanded the lunch menu last summer to meet that growing demand. Rachel and her husband, Justice Quintana, moved to Wimberley in 2012, although they were already well acquainted with the many charms of the quaint little village on the Blanco long before they moved here. Justice had been visiting Wimberley since he was a kid and had always told Rachel that it reminded him of his home town of Ruidoso, a mountain resort village in New Mexico, with its small town friendliness, art galleries, cafes and shops. Blanco Brew serves up organic coffee from all over the world and a large assortment of cinnamon rolls and pastries, all made fresh daily in their bakery. Rachel graduated from the Texas Culinary Academy in 2003 and later worked as a personal

chef for a family in Wimberley. She provides her customers with the consistently good quality they want, and has learned that “customers don’t mind paying a little more for good quality.” “I’ve always loved to cook,” Rachel says, “my mother was a fabulous baker and I had my hands in dough from when I was a toddler.” There are lots of tasty muffins, cookies and pastries on the menu, but some of the favorites that Rachel mentions are the meat stuffed croissants, jalapeño sausage, maple bacon cinnamon roll, and the cheese danish. “The recipe for the popular cheese danish is the same one I’ve used for 17 years, it’s a Julia Child recipe,” Rachel says. Rachel credits the staff as one reason for the coffee shop’s success, saying that you can’t run the show without a good staff. The friendliness of the Blanco Brew staff has been commented on by many customers, with one person saying that “even with their masks on, you can tell they are smiling.” Justice also helps out. “He proofs the dough for the cinnamon rolls and he washes dishes sometimes,” she says, adding that he has the health club (Just Results) and she has the coffee shop, but that they both help each other to keep their businesses running smoothly. Blanco Brew also sponsors Wimberley Coffee & Cars, a local get together for car enthusiasts of all types on the first Sunday of every month from 8 am to 11 am, with free mimosas and live music from guitarist and singer Danny Ramsay. f you’re reading this, chances are pretty darn good that you’re already in wondrous Wimberley (or, at least planning a trip soon) and possibly wondering what all there is to do. Well, for most folks, their initial reasons for coming here generally relate to the river, resorts, relaxation, revelry, restaurants and, of course, even a bit of retailing (i.e., shopping). And, regarding unique and special Wimberley-centric activities, it’s that last entry on the list where this story is going … big time! Yep, if you’re in the “market” for an exciting blast, not to mention the acquisition of a few, choice bargains then, just keep reading. So, come the first Saturday of each month from March through December, this blissful bucolic burg becomes the beloved epicenter to “any and all” seeking “all and any” by regularly staging its renown Wimberley Market Days, which by definition is nothing less than the Texas Hill Country’s largest outdoor “market for almost everything.”Wow! Featuring hundreds of diversely-inventoried (and eager to sell) vendors ably supported by ample amounts of savory edible’s and audibles, spread all across an accommodating and comfortable, well-shaded and pavilioned 19-acre park only a short drive from the town’s iconic square and, well, you get the picture (which, in many artistic forms, will be available at a Wimberley Market Day too)!

MARKET DAYS, from Page 18

First held in the mid-1960s in a much smaller format actually staged on town square, it only comprised a few temporary stalls selling only a few things. But, it was that humble beginning that would inevitably take root and explode in size and scope when the local chapter of the Lion’s Club took the reins. That was in 1969, when the Wimberley Lions Club was first chartered. Since then, the Wimberley Market Days has steadily grown attracting more sellers, buyers and, even those simply looking to witness something unique. More importantly, not only is each market day bushels of fun but in total, has raised an amazing amount benefiting many area charities and local youth programs including scholarships. Hoorah! Since those early days, expectations have grown (and been met) by the thousands who are drawn each season to the market. This year’s “first Saturdays” will continue that trend despite COVID-19 which may affect concession and live-music performances again in 2021. But, as required, CDC guidelines will be instituted to ensure the safety of all. Even so, there will still be more than 400 participating vendors scheduled tendering genuine antiques, delightful collectibles, perky plants, funky yard art, an impressive array of fine art, bubbling fountains, fun and fancy jewelry, must-have home décor accents, handmade artisan furniture, packaged culinary comestibles and, so much more. Many of the items on sale will be offered by the actual artisan/craftsman that created the same. Really, it’s a great opportunity to meet these talented people and learn about their wares’ inceptions. And, with so much diversity, there definitely will be something for everybody – no matter the budget. Couple the cool wares with ten food/refreshment stands where delicious hot dogs, tacos and sausage wraps as well as soft drinks, beer and even wine can be purchased. Shopping is hungry work! In closing, there are never any admission costs for attending these events. However, there is a modest $5 parking donation at marked Lion’s Parking Lots which goes entirely to support charitable causes. Vendor participation fees are likewise allocated. All working are volunteer as well – there’s no payroll deducting from the charitable profits. And, since the Wimberley Lion’s Club oversight 50 years ago, more than four million dollars has remarkably been raised for numerous worthwhile (local and regional) organizations all established with the intent of benefiting those in need. Double wow! Photos courtesy Wimberley Lions Market Days. FYI • This year’s Wimberley Market Days scheduled dates again are the first Saturdays of each month from March through December. For additional, comprehensive information including the market’s location and participating vendor requirements visit the website at wimberleymarketday.com or, visit their page at Facebook/Wimberley Lions.

Got the blues? Find the cure at

My Happy Place

By ERNIE ALTGELT

N

o doubt about it, life can definitely have its tough moments but … that’s just life! Some ups and, some downs. And, we just deal with it. Well, fortunately during those occasional low moments, at least where Wimberley’s concerned, finding relief is usually within short walking distance and, we’re not talking about a trip to the local pharmacy – we’ve got a much better remedy. Yep, for all of us locals (and out-of-towners alike) who may need an occasional lift, a wonderful, new boutique has definitely got the cure. Appropriately named “My Happy Place,” this is one, fun-filled emporium that specializes in banishing our blues thanks to an amazing surplus of smile-inducing (very legal) merchandise that’s guaranteed to lighten any and all hearts. Why, I feel better just thinking about it. Originally opened in Dripping Springs in 2017 but now coolly relocated to its new digs in downtown Wimberley in The Quarter on the square, My Happy Place perfectly reflects (founder and owner) Alicia Autrey’s dream-come-true regarding her inspired version of upbeat marketing. She is a respected and established interior designer and, her “place” intimately showcases Alicia’s blend of talents with myriad, exceptional products all selected to delight the customer. As she smilingly offers, “I want my inventory to make a positive impact on people’s lives. Everyone needs a little happy!” Tis true. So, just what kind of wonderment does one find within My Happy Place besides cheerful attitudes and lots of personal service? Alicia sums it up with the words, “It’s a lifestyle store.” And, once inside you’ll agree after discovering the diverse selection where really, everything’s been chosen to brighten and enhance – homes and humans. Clever artwork, charming jewelry, ladies’ “trending” apparel, all-natural soothing bath and body products, fascinating fragrances, specialty gifts the kids will love, mood-setting scented candles,

even her special slushy Daiquiri mixes and more all combine to give any shopper reason to cheer. Couple this curated collection with complementary snacks and sips, a very attentive and helpful staff and, maybe even a little live music on the weekends and a visit really does become an uplifting experience that’s truly good for the soul, not to mention a great way to satisfy the buying bug! As the proprietress further explains, “Also, not only are our product lines upbeat, practical and useful but many even support various charities. I like that and, so do our visitors.” She adds, “I try very hard to hand-select unique, quality items made in the USA if not right here in Texas. I think that’s important too.” The success of this store has spawned a second location right See MY HAPPY PLACE, Page 23

up the road in Gruene Lake Village, just a stone’s throw from historic Gruene and, it’s been a hit to boot. Whatever, folks seem to be smiling more there as well. Could it be the My Happy Place “effect?” You betcha! And, although a visit to both locations is definitely recommended since each store has its own distinct personality, online boutique shopping is certainly available too. Lastly, when queried about what makes Alicia’s My Happy Place boutique one-of-a-kind, she quickly responds, “When folks come into my stores, they immediately feel welcome. That can be rare these days.” But beyond that, what truly keeps people coming back (again and again) is the always-evolving selections. As Alicia proudly states, “When our patrons visit, besides the smiling faces, I promise they’ll see something new and beautiful every time and, that keeps them happy and, me as well.” So, make My Happy Place your place too because really, who likes being blue? Photos courtesy My Happy Place. FYI • My Happy Place in Wimberley is at 14015 Ranch Road 12, #15, in The Quarter on the Square (and in Gruene, at 2327 Gruene Lake Drive, Suite C, New Braunfels, TX 78130). Both locations are open 11 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday and 11 am to 6 pm on Saturday. The Wimberley location is open Sundays from noon to 4 pm. Cabins on the Square

abins on the Square is one of the original vacation rental properties in the Wimberley area, ideally situated with access to Cypress Creek (with 200 feet of creek frontage) and easy walking distance from restaurants, art galleries and shops. Although the cabins are close to everything in town, they still feel secluded and tranquil, an escape from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. Kristie and Pat Gaines bought the property in 2016 and fully restored and professionally decorated the cabins. They supported local interests and businesses whenever possible. “We bought all new mattresses from the Wimberley High School Track & Field’s annual mattress fundraiser,” Kristie explains. “I tell people that Wimberley is just the coolest little town, you’ll never get bored because there’s so much to do,” she says. Even when there were some limitations to the things people could do, like attend community theater or go out to eat, during the more restricted times since last March, people enjoyed staying in the cabins on the Wimberley Square, where they could simply relax, enjoy the beauty of the old cypress trees lining the creek, fish, and listen to the birds. Cabins on the Square offers three separate buildings, all with access to the creek, including The Cozy Cabin, a one room freestanding cabin; The Creek House with two bedrooms, a kitchen, living area and private yard; and Three Log Cabin Suites with two queen beds in each. The history of these cabins goes back to the early 1980s, when Jim Sheffield built them and a great many other cabins in the area, using kits from Real Log Homes, a company based in Mena, Arkansas. Some of these structures were large and quite elaborate homes, not the simple one room structures many people envision. Tourism to Wimberley was increasing every year and the cabin building business was booming. Jim worked for the telephone company, but he and his wife Peggy moved to Wimberley a couple of years before he retired.

He would later build and run the Wimberley Log Home Company and Log Motel, now Cabins on the Square. The Creek House Cabin was the original model house that he built in 1982 and that two story building was his office. Earlier, he’d built a cabin on Lone Man Creek. Jim’s daughter, Jamey, says that even though her dad retired from Southwestern Bell in 1984, “he never really retired. He said he was going to work until the day he died and that’s exactly what he did.” Jim was working on a log house the day he died in 2013 at the age of 84. Jamey says that her dad always remodeled their houses and that he really just enjoyed the process. Describing that first “log See CABINS ON THE SQUARE, Page 26

house raising” on Lone Man Creek, she says, “The company in Arkansas sent a lot of people down here and they put up the house in a matter of days. Anyone who was interested was welcome to come over and participate in this group effort that was somewhat reminiscent of the “barn raisings” that were common in 18th and 19th century rural North America.. Wimberley resident Roy Blake worked on many houses with Jim, and he remembers the log raisings. “Twenty people put up the walls and gable ends in three days (referring to a large log home on Wilson Creek),” he says, “then they brought in the cranes for the rafters and ceiling beams. Friends provided free labor.” Roy had known Jim and his family in Houston years before they met up again, much to their surprise, on the square in Wimberley where Jim was selling log home kits. “I bought a lot and we had a log raising,” Roy says, “Jim would tell prospective customers, ‘you can buy the kit and build it yourself, or you can buy it and we’ll put it up for you,’ and they’d put people up in their motel there in town while they did the work.” Today The Creek House, that once served as Mr. Sheffield’s office and model home, welcomes many visitors each year. The upstairs loft has a luxury king size bed with pillow-top mattress and a down-filled comforter. Downstairs, the second bedroom has a full/twin bunk bed and the living room has a queen size sleeper sofa. The Creek House and the other four unique spaces all have custom decor, soothing color schemes, and many features that Kristie and family provide for the comfort and convenience of their guests. Wild Organics

Wellbeing with CBDs & other naturally inspired products

By ERNIE ALTGELT

ithin our often-uptight existences, usually aggravated by a plastic world ruled by synthetics, finding relief can be a challenge. And, maybe that’s one of the reasons we come to an organic place like Wimberley in the first place – to realize a little of that desired relief. Well, for those of us in need, thankfully that incentive for a curative visit now makes even more sense. Located right on the town square is one of the newest members of the community and, it’s primary purpose in being is to provide a pathway for physical and emotional improvement that’s proven to be “wildly” successful. Aptly named Wild Organics, this upscale CBD dispensary and purveyor of other exceptional naturally-inspired products has established itself as the “real deal” where herbal relief is concerned. Originally founded in Austin by noted nutrigenomics practitioner and skin care expert Marie Finger, Wild Organics is a natural outgrowth from her respected Wild and Beautiful Spa and clinic. The spa provides aesthetic and wellness treatments using many of the products that are now found at her new Wimberley retail outlet. And, regarding the establishment of that retail outlet, Marie relates, “I wanted to bring a store

into the community that provides a positive vibe, evidenced-based wellness options and, all types of complementary offerings that are healthy to use without any harmful toxins, as well as being fun and unique.” As her growing and very satisfied clientele will attest, she’s ably succeeded. With an exclusive CBD line from her private manufacturing company, Wild Organics only stocks certified, exceptional quality, targeted products that ably address a number of physical and emotional situations. Everything has been tested and vetted, in many cases by Marie herself. As she recalls, “I was introduced to CBDs seven years ago by my physician. After suffering from severe chronic pain and fatigue for 13 years, I was desperate for help. Thanks to my doctor’s guidance and, as the result of genetic testing and then following a regimen based on non-synthetic medications, I now am well and thankfully, pain-free. It was natural that I would want to share my experience with others and, Wild Organic’s allows me to do this.” Many have since been attracted to her charming, well-run storefront on Wimberley’s square where within, patrons are delighted to encounter, not only an informed staff but, more

than 250 different items, including her comprehensive, personal line of CBD edibles, salves, tinctures, ointments, teas, creams and other hemp-derived, curative solutions. But, Wild Organics is so much more than that. Add in a large selection of naturally-sourced comestibles under the Wild Foods label that include coffees, extracts, teas, and snackable “superfoods and, Marie’s comprehensive approach to complete health care becomes evident. But, she didn’t stop there. As she further describes, “We also have available a lot of other enjoyable and practical things including, scented candles, handmade soaps, natural deodorants (that really work but don’t cause cancer like others do), handdrawn and printed inspirational tee shirts, baby clothes, bags, greeting cards, bath and skin care products, perfumes, hats, and even dog and cat treats.” And, as the store’s name states, everything is wonderfully organic. No unwanted additives! So, who shops at Wild Organics? Based on the above overview of its related but definitely, eclectic inventory, Marie explains. “Anyone wanting a heathier and happier life and lifestyle.” Her customers are “conscious of natural healing and looking for not only nutritional products but, a fun shopping experience as well.” To those ends, as her patrons heartily attest, “mission accomplished – naturally!” Photos courtesy Wild Organics. In the 1850s, Wimberley had a grist mill, tannery, store, shoe shop, and a school that was also used as a church and meeting hall. By the 1870s, it also had a blacksmith. By 1880, the Post Office was set up. By 1900, nine houses were built around the square. By the 1920s, the county finally started to improve roads in and out of the village (the road to San Marcos was paved in 1921). By 1939, electricity was available. The population tripled from 1880 to 1947, based on estimates by the Post Office, to a little more than 400 people.

He is joined by his wife, Heather, two young sons, and their family dog, Willie Nelson. Fr. Kevin served as rector at St. George’s Episcopal in Austin for a decade prior to coming to St. Stephen’s. He is a graduate of the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin and ordained a priest in 2007. He earned his bachelor’s degree in anthropology and history from Texas State in 2000. What you may not know about Fr. Kevin is that he is also a musician. You just never know when he will be joining the Sunday service procession playing his drums. He has learned many things from God through life’s experiences–one of the most valuable being the importance of relationship. In fact, this defines his ministry: to be a friend with God in all avenues of life. His hope and prayer is that you and he become friends through God. Whoever you are, and wherever you find yourself on the journey of faith, you are welcome at St. Stephen’s. Sunday worship service is held at 10:30 am and Morning Prayer is held in the courtyard on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9 am. Visit the website at ststeve.org for more information.

Rev. Jim Denham CHAPEL IN THE HILLS Reverend Jim Denham and Molly moved to Wimberley from South Padre Island where Jim served as resident Chaplain for Chapel by the Sea since 2008. From 1999 to 2008, Reverend Denham had previously served as Senior Pastor for the Chapel in the Hills in Wimberley. Jim has also served as Director of Chaplaincy Services for the Seton Hospital System, Pastor of Austin Heights Baptist Church and Hospice Chaplain for Girling Home Hospice. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Texas in Austin, a Masters of Divinity from Southern Baptist Seminary, Louisville, KY, and Clinical Pastoral Education from Baptist Hospital, San Antonio. “Let’s jump start the joy and happiness and see what God can do with our efforts to be his followers at our special place to worship, our church, Chapel in the Hills,” says Reverend Denham. Jim and Molly have three daughters and two grandsons. Molly is an Education Consultant. Sunday morning worship starts at 10 am. For more information, visit wimberleychapelinthehills.com.

Real Estate Professionals Barbara Latimer, Broker/Branch Manager HILLS OF TEXAS / SKY REALTY

Broker/Owner at Hills of Texas Realty, Barbara merged her company with Sky Realty in 2015 to form Hills of Texas/ Sky Realty. Her 25+ years’ experience and knowledge of the market provides the highest level of service for her clients. “It’s work I love. There is nothing else I’d rather do, she says. “There are challenges to working in a rural market, but I thrive on those challenges. Every property is unique and interesting. I love problem solving and helping my clients.” Well, septic and Oak wilt inspections are typical occurrences for Barbara, but to urban agents they can be foreign. A local market expert and a Texas Monthly “Five Star Real Estate Agent” for the last 12 years, it is obvious Barbara loves her career and is eager to help buyers and sellers. Her clients definitely count on her expertise, but they also love her approach. “We interviewed several agents, but we wanted someone we could connect with,” says one client. “Barbara walked in the door, and her enthusiasm and attention to detail won us over. She’s definitely the reason we were able to finalize the sale.” Originally from Houston and a graduate of the University of Texas, Barbara and her family moved to Wimberley in 1997. In her free time, she and her husband, Gaylan, enjoy boating, live music venues and exploring the Hill Country.
