EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens...

a Wimberley treasure BY BONNIE EISSLER

W

hen businesses and schools were closing throughout the state because of the COVID pandemic in March 2020, EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens shut down, too. For nearly a quarter century, residents of Wimberley and surrounding towns in the Texas Hill Country have marked the changing seasons by the highly anticipated seasonal events at the EmilyAnn. As a joyful herald of Spring, the Butterfly Festival rings in the season as surely as do the lush beds of bluebonnets, budding trees, and chirping birds. The Trail of Lights, an illuminated extravaganza that combines the efforts of so many talented people, is a Christmas tradition and many people’s introduction to EmilyAnn. Summer brings hotter longer days, musicals and Shakespeare’s plays on the stage of the large outdoor amphitheater. Now, after two years with no Butterfly Festival and one year with no Trail of Lights, Ann Rolling, the Executive Director and one of the founders, her husband, Norm, who manages the gardens, and their daughter, Rebecca, who maintains the very informative website, are happy to announce “We are back!” and provide details about some of the exciting events planned for 2022. The 22nd annual Butterfly Festival on April 23 from 9 am to 5 pm will feature butterfly releases, crafts, and activities, live music, and a flight house filled with exotics, native to the area, that will be released into the wild at the end of the day. The exotics for the flight house are ordered from the San Antonio Zoo and will be picked up two days before the festival. Everyone is sure to enjoy the excitement of the first in-person butterfly festival in two years.

A June/July indoor show at the Burdine Johnson Theatre “Silver Linings – A Musical Jubilee” commemorates the past 25 years of musicals performed at the EmilyAnn Theatre. Auditions are being held for this performance and tickets are already on sale and likely to go quickly. Shakespeare Under the Stars, theatre and music camps for kids are also scheduled for this summer. Ann encourages visitors to explore and enjoy the numerous and diverse walking and nature paths and gardens, paying special attention to the fine sculpture collection, of which many are perhaps unaware. The gardens are managed by Norm Rolling with help from Larry Adams and a large number of volunteers and local organizations. Some of the gardens are traditional while others are activity gardens, and there are 35 to 40 different gardens in all, including family gardens, a Children’s Memorial Garden, a sensory garden planted and maintained by the Herb Society, and a Fairy Garden “a place for imaginations to grow” put together by a Girl Scouts troop. Although not completely there yet, the gardens are all moving toward having only plants that are native to the area. There are currently eight sculptures, with details and photographs of each on the website. The two newest sculptures are “Bloom,” which was crafted by Angela Mia De la Vega, and “Butterfly,” an amazing stained glass and iron sculpture. “Bloom” will stand in a memorial garden at the top of the hill in memory of Jessica Pape and her daughter Sophia. “Butterfly” will reside in the Burdine Johnson Studio Theatre. The Flood Memorial sculpture, crafted by J.J. Priour of limestone and glass, was donated by the Wimberley Valley Art League and stands in a memorial garden at the top of the hill in memory of the lives lost in the 2015 flood. A truly special sculpture was donated by the class of 1998, the students with whom Emily Ann Rolling would have graduated. “Senior Gate” was crafted by Jimmy Harwell and stands at the entrance to the outdoor amphitheater. EmilyAnn was founded in 1998 to celebrate the life of Emily Ann Rolling by providing a permanent home for Shakespeare Under the Stars, a program in which she excelled as an actress and costume designer. EmilyAnn celebrates creativity, family, performing arts and nature and has been a blessing to the community and to many visitors who have attended events there. FYI • EmilyAnn Theatre & Gardens is located at 1101 FM 2325 in Wimberley. Grounds are open year round, from dawn to dusk. No admission fee is charged, although donations are always appreciated. For information about upcoming events, the gardens and sculptures, photographs and much more, visit the website at emilyann.org or call 512-847-6969.

Central Texas Theatre Academy

Where “make believe” is encouraged BY ERNIE ALTGELT

H

ave you ever watched your kids play “make believe?” Remarkable, isn’t it? Their fertile imaginations allowing them to effortlessly pretend as they create and act-out amazing scenarios that can blend (and bend) reality by infusing other-worldly elements forming fantastic and fabulous storylines. The young are simply “naturals” where role-playing is concerned and the consensus seems to indicate this is an emotionally healthy thing to encourage. But, how can a caring parent do that? Well, for many in and around Wimberley, the solution can be summed up in a few words – the Central Texas Theater Academy. Founded solely to inspire, coax, nurture and perfect young people’s innate acting abilities in a well-run, structured atmosphere is what the CTTA is all about and it’s not just “playing” around. Since 2020, this dedicated, community-supported organization has welcomed hundreds of emoting and inventive “tots to teens” with the aim of professionally and appropriately enhancing their powers of transformative creativity – on stage and off. And aside from the laudable result of bestowing poise, confidence and communicative skills to those within its youthful and eager student body, the general populace benefits as well from an annual series of regularly staged (and raved) public productions delighting not only the kiddos but, their family, friends and all other patrons of the arts seeking an entertaining show where it’s the young who take center stage. Bravo, CTTA!The Central Texas Theatre Academy grew into being when another local artistic organization ceased its child-oriented theater programming department. That department had been ably headed by the very accomplished (and nationally recognized) Bridget Farias Gates, a local lady with a BFA degree in directing from Texas State University as well as a working actress, writer and producer. Bridget was determined to “find a way” to See CTTA, page 11

CTTA, from page 10

keep the popular children’s’ program active and, as she concedes, “The establishment of the CTTA proved to be the answer.” Initially opening as a theater school for boys and girls aged five through 12 and focusing on the basic elements that comprise acting, today the student population now welcomes those up to 18-years-old with more advanced study tracks including singing, dancing, directing, set and light design and other aspects of technical theater. Ten- and 15-week sessions are conducted throughout the year – after school during those months and then at well-attended summer camps. The classes are all held at the CTTA campus in Wimberley which includes a large studio space with full wall mirrors (great for dance instruction) and a technically-equipped performance stage. The faculty is comprised of Bridget and another well-trained (BFA in performance production) actress named Hannah Mobarak who functions as the primary teaching artist. She and Bridget are ably aided by three other gifted teachers. Supporting these are myriad, treasured volunteers who handle all of the other necessities, from fund-raising and ticket taking to costume and set construction as well as anything else that can ensure that, when the time is right, “The play will go on!” So, the learning aspect is certainly fun but, what about the actual plays? Well, for the little guys and gals, at the end of their introductory, 10-week sessions, there will be a scaled-down performance where, as Bridget attests, “They can try out what they’ve learned and, get their feet wet.” Parents love attending. For the intermediate students, a more testing play will be the culmination of their longer session. And then there’s the older classmates. For them a full-length, song and dance-filled musical performed to an actual paying audience is on tap. It’s the big time! Add to those a special Shakespeare on the River program that is done in partnership with Blue Hole Regional Park that

comprises a six-week high school Shakespeare Intensive course for students ages 12-18 and, well, you get the idea. All in all, the Central Texas Theatre Academy really is the “make believe” place where pre-teen, tweens and teens can go and grow into tomorrow’s creative communicators and maybe even future performing arts stars. Break a leg young actors! Photos courtesy Central Texas Theatre Academy.. FYI • The Central Texas Theatre Academy is located in the Plaza Del Sol center at 12111 Ranch Road 12, Suite 111-113, in Wimberley. Creekhouse Kitchen & Bar

Unwind with craft cocktails & sophisticated Texas fare BY COLLEEN BROOKS

U

nder the tall trees overlooking Cypress Creek is a new addition to the Wimberley dining scene. Creekhouse Kitchen and Bar - a relaxed, yet modern restaurant - is serving up craft cocktails and classic Texas fare with a beautiful ambiance and fun vibe. The concept for Creekhouse came from seven Wimberley friends - Micah and Molly Bowen, Will and Jessica Baldwin, Brent Hamilton, Kelli Northington, and Marshall Kenderdine - who wanted to create a special place along the creek. “We all craved a place to gather and soak up the sweetest spot on the creek in Wimberley while enjoying soul-satisfying food, craft cocktails, and live music,” Molly explains. “We wanted to create a space frequented by locals and unforgettable for tourists.” With her background in real estate and design, designing the space came easy. “We added on to an existing building in The Quarter Shops and created an indoor/outdoor space with glass garage doors that roll up on three sides. We wanted to create an inviting space authentic to Wimberley where guests could marvel at the ancient cypress trees and listen to the sound of the rippling creek.” The Creekhouse opened its doors in July of 2021 and has had a steady following of locals and tourists since. The restaurant offers a seasonal menu sure to delight anyone’s palate – with small bites like charred shishito peppers and okra, their “Wimbo nachos,” and “Creekhouse fries” prepared one of two ways: with truffle parmesan and parsley flakes or with cheese curds, bacon, gravy, and Mexican crema. For the warmer months, they’ll be adding a peel-and-eat shrimp appetizer with house-made remoulade, accompanied by an atomic horseradish cocktail sauce. Popular entrees are too many to list but include a Southern fried chicken sandwich with hot honey, a Creekhouse burger, a selection of tacos, and grilled yardbird sandwich with creamy brie, bacon, arugula, and special sauce. The menu also offers a generous selection of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free dishes, See CREEKHOUSE, page 14

in addition to seasonal salads and a kid’s menu, complete with ice cream. Molly explains, “We offer a seasonal menu with an emphasis on dishes you can’t find around town. We constantly change things up and try to improve upon what we’re doing. We also offer a wide selection of Texas-brewed beers, fine wines, and artfully crafted cocktails that complement our menu’s robust flavors.” Their most popular drink right now is their Wimberley Way, a signature hibiscus margarita. The restaurant also changes up its cocktails seasonally. You can find live music there every weekend and during the summer from Thursday to Sunday. The seven owners love supporting local hill country musicians. “Guests love to hang out at our Silo Bar, which is an old grain silo we converted into an open-air bar,” Molly says. “There’s just something about sitting on the creek, cocktail in hand, listening to a local musician, and enjoying the view with family and friends.” The restaurant currently holds up to 175 guests with its indoor and outdoor areas. It can also accommodate private events, and the owners have plans to provide off-site catering. “While Creekhouse has been a collaboration of our passions for food, hospitality, and design, it is our deep appreciation for

the beauty of Cypress Creek and the desire to celebrate and share it with others that were the driving forces behind this concept,” Molly explains. If you’re short on time to soak in the ambiance, a togo order can be arranged. For those fortunate to enjoy the ambiance, well-behaved dogs on a leash are also welcome. Molly smiles, “Come to celebrate, relax, and slow down. It truly is a special spot to gather, and there’s no better place to be than Wimberley, Texas.” Photos courtesy Creekhouse Kitchen and Bar.. A shop as unique as its name BY BONNIE EISSLER

POPPi Vernon

Elizabeth Gray/POPPi chose the name for her home goods store, a showcase of unique vintage eclectic finds, as a tribute to her late father who was called POPPi by her kids, and to her childhood home located on Vernon Drive in Cortland, New York. “My dad was also the one who took me to flea markets and old barns when I was a young girl,” she says, recalling how they sought out hidden treasures together – seashells, feathers, a plethora of fascinating oddities of uncertain origin. This was her earliest experience being a “picker” long before “American Pickers” premiered featuring two pickers “scouring the countryside looking

for amazing vintage, antiques, and collectibles buried in people’s garages and barns.” Years later, perhaps inspired by those earlier jaunts with her father, she was a vendor at Elephant’s Trunk, a famous flea market in New Milford, Connecticut, where treasure hunters, antique collectors, and entrepreneurs of all kinds have flocked since 1976. She was even featured several times on Flea Market Flip, another popular reality television show where contestants buy and repurpose flea market finds to earn a profit. Four years ago this July, POPPi moved to the Texas Hill Country from Connecticut after her husband accepted a job offer in the area. This would be a big change, but any concerns about moving to the Lone Star State didn’t last long. “We really love Texas,” she says. She spent some time getting settled and decorating her new home, but it wasn’t long before she was ready to branch out in her new home state. “Once I got the house in Kyle organized, I felt the urge to get back to work,” she says, “it was a bumpy ride for a while being a vendor at other places.” Later, she thought she had found a place in New Braunfels, only to learn that her insurance was denied because of storm damage to the building. “I was at my wits’ end,” she says, but after I found this place, it seemed to me that this was what I’d been waiting for. I’m thrilled to be here because I know that I’m supposed to be here.” There are so many wonderful items, large and small, in the store and the collections are always changing. Arrangements composed of such diverse pieces can easily appear cluttered, but there is nothing cluttered or chaotic here. With her keen eye for detail and natural talent for interior design, she organizes plants, old books, mirrors, a small statue on a stripped down shabby chic dresser as a delightful composition that resembles a theatrical set piece. An oil painting of a turbulent sea, a huge piece of driftwood, stacked stones and a rusty fish sculpture comprise an intriguing See POPPi, page 17

tabletop vignette. POPPi’s style encompasses shabby chic, French country and garden. “I love white, chippy, shabby anything,” she says, “I’m also very sentimental, old photographs and books will

always draw my attention.” She mentions that it may seem surprising that she doesn’t enjoy history. Rather, her interest is in “rescuing the unloved and seeing the potential

in a piece that is perfectly imperfect, that may have a scratch, or an old quilt with a tear or stain, rusted metal bowls or tarnished silver, and my reward is when someone else sees that potential too and finds a place for it in her heart and her home.” Vintage hardback books are also hard to resist. Perhaps, in this increasingly digital age, she sees books as less loved and more expendable than they once were, in need of rescue. She buys them not so much because she loves reading, but because she likes the look and the feel of old books and appreciates their value as home décor. There are books throughout the store, including multiple books strung together vertically to form a sort of book sculpture that dangles from the ceiling, books with plants inside of a birdcage, books stacked on a table as a base for a small lamp, or more traditionally displayed with rows of books on shelves. The array of furnishings, accessories, and collections at POPPI’s offer a great source for staging, Airbnb’s and second homes. Her furniture arrangements and decorative vignettes provide inspiration by example to many of us who are never quite sure how to arrange items on a wall or a shelf, who can’t see what needs to go and what needs to stay. Do Wimberley in style at

at Annie James Boutique BY ERNIE ALTGELT

A

visit to Wimberley at any time is guaranteed to be a pleasurable experience. And that said, no matter what’s on your itinerary – soaking up the scenery along the river, eating amazing foods, exploring the surrounding countryside or, just chilling – while in Wimberley, you’ll definitely want to do it in style! Really, is there any other way? Well good traveler, in this warm and welcoming township you’re definitely in luck because those in the know rely on the one-and-only, eclectically-unique Annie James Boutique, where exceptional sartorial style is literally everything and, keeping the ladies (and lasses too) looking good is its sole stock and trade. So, are you game for a little (or a lot of) styling? Then, “wear” else but Annie James? Annie James Boutique grew out of the vision of its founder Kellie Duckett, a naturally-gifted “fashionista” with a love of sharing where women’s wardrobes are concerned. Although a native Texan, Kellie found herself in Wimberley some 20-plus years ago after marrying her sweetheart (a local man), settling here, having kids and basically, embracing her adopted community. But, while aside from being a devoted mom and wife, she always remained involved in the clothing biz where, as she admits, “I sold merchandise out of my car, staged private trunk shows in my spare bedroom at home and also became a regular participant at many of Wimberley’s popular vendor-driven Market Days events.” Kellie’s early efforts proved to be remarkably successful ultimately leading to her decision to open an actual “storefront.” And in 2010, that’s exactly what she did when she leased a small space in Wimberley’s Lumberyard area (just off the square), filled it with an amazing inventory of wondrous wearables then gave it all a name taken from her two children, Annie and James. She and her shop have been going and growing ever since. For Kellie personally, as well as for her many patrons, it’s definitely been a good fit. Today, having doubled the boutique’s original space, Kellie and crew oversee an amazing selection of fabulous feminine offerings (all beautifully displayed and running the gamut from casual chic to dressy, covering any occasion) including complete, must-have outfits as well as tons of charming individual dresses, colorful blouses, tees, slacks and sweaters, fun and fancy accessories including handbags, hats and jewelry, shelf-loads of super-cool jeans that emphasize that Texas look and even a lot of neat child attire that the young ladies will love too. Some of Kellie’s most popular lines include Dear John Denim, Show Me Your Muu Muu, Ivy Jane and Julio Designs handbags See ANNIE JAMES, page 21

among others. Whatever is desired, there are always thousands of items in stock and affordability is never a problem. Pricing runs from a modest $20 to $175, with the average purchase running about $75. And, if you’re not sure what you want, professional assistance and guidance is always on hand – when visiting Annie James, it’s like you have your own personal shopper at your side! Everything is available for sale online and, as Kellie adds, “We welcome the guys, too, who may be in need of something special for the wife or girlfriend. We’ve got the gifts they want!”

An out-of-the-ordinary getaway at

Spoon Mountain Glamping BY BONNIE EISSLER

A

lthough the word “glamping” was not officially added to the Oxford English Dictionary until 2016, glamorous camping has been around for hundreds of years. However, the privilege of living luxuriously in a tent (more like a mobile palace) was reserved exclusively for kings, queens, sultans, and other high-ranking aristocrats. Everyone else carried their tents and slept on the ground close to the horses, or in the sultan’s camp, with the camels. Happily, you don’t have to be a member of the royal family to enjoy the luxury of camping in one of the three authentic safari tents at Spoon Mountain Glamping. Owners Ken and Yvette Strange weren’t quite sure at first what to do with several acres adjoining the Med Spa that Yvette had opened in 2016, but they knew that the sunset alone was worthy of a unique retreat where guests could sit back and enjoy that glorious view. See GLAMPING, page 24

GLAMPING, from page 22

After a few years wondering what to do with this space, the eureka moment came after Ken and family pitched a tent one night and camped out under the stars. Ken recalled how much he’d enjoyed camping with the kids in their younger years, before everyone was glued to their phones, sending texts and playing online games. He thought how wonderful it would be to recapture those idyllic moments spent outside in nature, sitting around a fire, telling stories and just enjoying being together. “We watched the sun sink down into the saddle between the two hills and decided that this was something to share,” Ken says, “and that’s when the adventure began.” Ken and Yvette attended a glamping summit in Denver, Colorado (yes, glampers summit too) and “that’s where we met the BushTec people,” Ken says. Bushtec Safari has won many awards for innovative designs and quality, with products that are built to last. “The same kind of tents used in the Serengeti in northern Tanzania were shipped here from South Africa,” says Ken. “Everything is selected with the guests’ comfort in mind,” says property manager Yvonne, and that may be an understatement. There are fans and heaters, music and earplugs, towel warmer, bubble bath and plush bathrobes, soft pillows and throws. For delicious treats, glampers get a small charcuterie board (beautifully put together in a heart shaped wooden bowl by Yvette), Topo Chicos (the signature beverage for Med Spa and Spoon Mountain), cocoa and S’mores fixings. With Med Spa professionals close by, guest can schedule private couples massages in their tents. No one misses having a television in the tent. Many people ask about the mattresses because they are so incredibly comfortable. “We actually bought them at a high school fundraiser for the Wimberley track team,” Ken says, “Yvette and I lay down on every mattress there to find the ones we liked best.” They bought the mattresses a year before they set up the tents and added the decks and porches, leaving the mattresses stored at the school until they were ready for them to be delivered. Step outside the back of each tent on to a private deck with a 10-foot-tall wooden fence, a large soaking tub, a romantic seating area, and a small patio table for intimate dinners. On the large front porch, guests can sip their wine or Topo Chico from the comfort of rocking chairs and enjoy that amazing sunset. For those who can tear themselves away from soaking in the big tub on the back deck, rocking their cares away on the front porch, or lounging in the hammock outside, there’s also a common area nearby with a spacious covered seating area, large dining table, hot tub and steam sauna. Philip Sell, an award-winning furniture designer and artist based in Wimberley, made the table, which has a distinctive base of cypress wood from a tree that was uprooted during the 2015 Memorial Day flood. Photos courtesy Spoon Mountain Glamping. FYI • Spoon Mountain Glamping, located at 210 Masonic Lodge Road, has been welcoming guests since April 2021. Three luxurious tents – Kingfisher, which is fully wheelchair accessible, Chisum, and Shaka, are on site. To book your stay and to learn more about this unique retreat and each of the tents, visit the website at spoonmountainglamping.com. 24 Welcome to Wimberley Spring/Summer 2022

WAG Rescue BY BONNIE EISSLER

ogs connect to their humans in a way that no other animal does. We have strong and tender reactions when we look at a dog’s face, and as it turns out, the feeling is mutual. With such a long history of shared love and affection, it is only natural that we humans do not want to see our canine companions abandoned, neglected or otherwise mistreated. Wimberley Adoption Group and Rescue (WAG Rescue) has made a lifetime commitment to the dogs that come into their care, to provide medical care as needed, and to find good homes for them. This June will mark the thirteen year anniversary since Pat Davis and Debbie Nordyke recognized the need for a local organization to rescue and care for the abandoned and lost dogs in the Wimberley area. WAG Rescue was incorporated in 2009 to address this problem. Since that time, they have rescued and adopted out over 1,500 dogs and puppies and returned many lost dogs to their owners. In 2020, during the pandemic, 222 dogs were adopted, more than in any previous year. WAG Rescue takes in any dog or puppy regardless of age or condition. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when many shelters closed their doors, WAG was often asked to See WAG, page 28

take in animals that were not as “adoptable” due to illness or other problems as shelters in New Braunfels, San Marcos, Austin and other towns in Central Texas coordinated their efforts to help the rescued animals. “Our organization has always had a working relationship with local veterinarians and hospitals that gives us an advantage in treating and saving sick animals that some of the other shelters do not have,” Pat says. “The veterinarians provide health screenings, they can determine if mange is contagious or non-contagious, they check for heartworms and start treatment.” In 2016, WAG Rescue acquired six acres with an existing house. Play yards, covered outdoor kennels and even a nursery, all built by volunteers, have been important additions to the refuge. “WAG wouldn’t exist without the tremendous volunteer support that we have,” Pat says, “we always need more volunteers and right now we especially need individuals who are skilled in marketing, advertising and social media.” There are so many different jobs for volunteers, from fostering dogs to working in the “Treasures on Twelve” thrift shop (where 100% of the profits go to WAG Rescue) to grant writing and social media. “We have Dog Activity Teams, DAT, that spend time playing with the dogs in the three big playgrounds, soon to be four as one playground will be divided, making sure the dogs get the exercise they need,” says Pat. WAG volunteers demonstrate by their actions their heartfelt belief that “Everyone can do something to help save a dog.” Photos courtesy WAG Rescue. Editors Note: At the time of printing, all the dogs you see featured in portraits in this story are available for adoption. FYI • WAG Rescue is an all-volunteer dog only rescue and adoption organization comprised of a network of foster families, generous donors, and dedicated volunteers. The best way to contact WAG is by email. Buttercup’s story

by Pat Davis, WAG Rescue

L

ast year, WAG Rescue received a plea from the City of Lockhart Animal Shelter about a very pregnant yellow Labrador mix named Buttercup. Shelters are no place for puppies and nursing mothers. Thankfully, we had a place for her to safely deliver and nurse her puppies, so we agreed to take her to our dog refuge. As we do with all our new dogs, we took Buttercup to the veterinarian for her initial medical assessment, and we were told that she would be going into labor very soon! Nine long days later, Buttercup gave birth to 10 puppies, all healthy carbon copies of herself! We have a nursery at our refuge, built with donated funds for materials and with labor provided by WAG Rescue volunteers. This small, climate-controlled building has housed many litters of moms and their puppies and has been a crucial addition to the refuge. Buttercup proved to be a doting mother, and with the help of our awesome volunteers and caretakers, all of the puppies grew to be healthy and well socialized. Soon, it became time to find each puppy its forever home, and then it was Buttercup’s turn, too. Buttercup and her puppies were quite the success story, and WAG Rescue was happy to provide her with a safe environment for the birth and care of her 10 puppies. WAG Rescue is dedicated to giving hope to every dog that comes into our care, and we do our very best to go the extra mile for each dog or puppy.

Climb Mount Baldy Experience a breathtaking and iconic Wimberley landmark for generations, and get some exercise to boot! Mount Baldy has been the site of marriage proposals, scout camping trips, and family traditions, and it’s also popular among those seeking to achieve fitness. Most just climb it for the magnificent view of Wimberley it provides. To visit Old Baldy, head north on FM 2325 from the square. Go 1.7 miles and turn right on Woodcreek Drive, then take the first right onto El Camino Real. Go 0.2 mi to the dead end and turn right on La Toya Trail. After about a half mile, you will see the parking area and the Old Baldy steps.

A Western town of the 1880s, Pioneer Town is a sight to see! Perhaps the most popular spot in this little town, an old-timey ice cream parlor whips up their own handmade tasty treats for little and big mouths alike. You can also enjoy the arcade and great shopping at Blanco River Outfitters during office hours (Friday and Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm and Sunday throughThursday from 8 am to 6 pm). All of this in addition to comfortable cabins and lodges for larger groups and meetings, right on the Blanco River. Find out more at 7aranchs.co.

Real Estate Professionals Barbara Latimer, Broker/Branch Manager HILLS OF TEXAS / SKY REALTY Broker/Owner at Hills of Texas Realty, Barbara merged her company with Sky Realty in 2015 to form Hills of Texas/ Sky Realty. Her 25+ years’ experience and knowledge of the market provides the highest level of service for her clients. “It’s work I love. There is nothing else I’d rather do, she says. “There are challenges to working in a rural market, but I thrive on those challenges. Every property is unique and interesting. I love problem solving and helping my clients.” Well, septic and Oak wilt inspections are typical occurrences for Barbara, but to urban agents they can be foreign. A local market expert and a Texas Monthly “Five Star Real Estate Agent” for the last 13 years, it is obvious Barbara loves her career and is eager to help buyers and sellers. Her clients definitely count on her expertise, but they also love her approach. “We interviewed several agents, but we wanted someone we could connect with,” says one client. “Barbara walked in the door, and her enthusiasm and attention to detail won us over. She’s definitely the reason we were able to finalize the sale.” Originally from Houston and a graduate of the University of Texas, Barbara and her family moved to Wimberley in 1997. In her free time, she and her husband, Gaylan, enjoy boating, live music venues and exploring the Hill Country.

Linda Germain, REALTOR, ABR, GRI, SRES, SRS KELLER WILLIAMS REALTY Linda Germain has been a Realtor here in the Texas Hill Country with Keller Williams Realty for the past 18 years, since starting her Real Estate career in 2004. Born and raised in San Francisco, CA, Linda attended San Francisco State College, majored in Business, and then spent more than 25 years in retail management for major retailers. Outstanding customer service has always been a high priority in Linda’s retail career and remains her number one priority in working with her Real Estate clients. She is a member of the National and Texas Association of Realtors, as well as the Austin and Four Rivers Board of Realtors. Linda and her husband, Gene, moved to Wimberley 18 years ago and both are active, involved members of the Community. Linda is again serving on the Board of Directors for the Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce, having served two previous terms on the Board, two of those years as Chairperson. She is past President and current Membership Chair/Secretary for the Wimberley Community Chorus and has served two terms as Secretary of the Wimberley Valley Arts & Cultural Alliance (WVACA). As a long-time volunteer for Alzheimer’s Texas, Linda facilitates the monthly Wimberley Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group, teaches classes for caregivers of Dementia patients and works as a volunteer with the ‘Circle of Friends’ Respite Program, held weekly at the Wimberley Community Center. “It is a joy to live here in Wimberley and an honor to serve and ‘give back’ to the Wimberley Community.”
