DANCE
HILLCREST DANCE TEAMS 2016 An exciting development in the growth of our Hillcrest Christian College Dance program is happening this year. The College has amongst the student body some very high profile dance students, and many younger students showing much potential in dance. As a result, the College has decided to invest more dedicated time and funding into continuously raising the profile of our Dance Program in the community. Dance teams are commencing in Week 3 of term 1 on Thursdays, during the Senior Learning Community’s dedicated Sports time, from 12:00pm onwards. We have collaborated with the Currumbin Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA) to create a program for all interested dance students from Years 7 to 12. There will be three dance teams this year: SENIOR DANCE SQUAD Our top Dance Excellence Team. This is an auditioned dance team that works towards various performances and competitions throughout the year. JUNIOR DANCE SQUAD Our Junior Dance Excellence Team. This is an auditioned dance team that works towards various performances and competitions throughout the year. OPEN DANCE TEAM An opportunity for any student in Years 7-12 to learn a variety of dance routines in mixed styles e.g. Hip-Hop, Contemporary and Jazz
STAFF Specialist dance instructors from Hillcrest and CAPA will be taking the teams, coordinated by Hillcrest Dance Coordinator, Ms Jess Hines. The Principal Dance Teacher for CAPA is Miss Kelly Buchanan. Kelly is a former student of Hillcrest, who now runs this very successful business, and we fully endorse CAPA’s programs and philosophy of dance instruction.
TRANSPORT Students will be transported by bus to and from CAPA’s Currumbin studios each Thursday during the normal sports times. The Currumbin Academy of Performing Arts is located at 10 Villiers Drive, Currumbin Waters.
COSTS The cost to students for these programs is $10 per class for the Senior and Junior Squad. Fees paid are inclusive of the students dance tuition, all entry fees for competitions throughout the year and their costume hire fee. Once auditions are complete after Week 3 of school, students will be advised of their selection into the two Dance Excellence teams. Fee statements for the term will be issued to students by CAPA and these are payable to CAPA by Week 5 of term 1, and the commencement of each term thereafter. Inclusion in the Open Dance Team is free of charge.
COMMITMENT Upon acceptance to our performance teams, students will be asked to consider the commitment required. A commitment form will be sent home to parents detailing what will be expected of the students.
