ISSUE 3, FRIDAY, 15 MAY 2015 night and day, labouring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate. For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.” 2 Thessalonians 3:6-10
FROM THE PRINCIPAL, JEFF DAVIS WARNING AGAINST IDLENESS "In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked
In today's western society, many young people, have failed to be taught the necessity that 'actions lead to outcomes'. In some cases, we find that there is an air of entitlement in their attitude rather than a servant-hearted mindset. We cannot blame the students for this misconception for, as adults, we allow this mindset to prevail and, in doing so, rob our children of the abundant joy that they could receive by being more disciplined and giving in their approach to life. We need to consider the example of Jesus, who was not a drop out. He worked as a carpenter, using his hands, prior to his ministry commencing.
The apostle Paul made tents for a living, while he carried on the work that God had assigned him, and there are many examples of other biblical leaders who made their livelihood outside of their ministry. As Christians, we should seek to emulate this example, wherever possible. We should never assume that we are entitled to a weekly salary or payment for a job unless we actually do it to the best of our ability. It is with this integrity mindset that we will achieve success. I commend all families to take the time to instruct your children in the virtues of a hard days' work and particularly the importance of developing a giving mindset. For without this characteristic in our society, it will not be long until we eliminate the perception of community that we hold very dear to our hearts at Hillcrest. Year 12 students are midway through Term 2, traditionally
known as the busiest time of year. In the next 6 weeks, please keep our students in your prayers as they are required to complete two or three assessment pieces in all subjects. As a school, we offer support to all families struggling at this time and ask that you contact us should you require ideas and strategies for students, who may be under pressure, to assist them in maximising their performance. I would like to acknowledge the amazing work of Jeremy Williamson and our Performing Arts team with the upcoming production of our school musical, Jesus Christ Superstar. Already, we have sold out all performances and are well on the way to selling out the additional Saturday matinee performance. Students have been incredible in their dedication to developing this production and I am very confident that all members of the community, who attend, will be amazed at the level of professionalism on show.
