Culture. Continuity. Legacy.

HILLEL OF SAN DIEGO AT SDSU At SDSU and at universities throughout San Diego County, Hillel of San Diego seeks to enrich the lives of thousands of Jewish students so they may enrich the Jewish people and the world. Hillel’s vision is that every Jewish college student makes an enduring commitment to Jewish life, learning and Israel. Hillel at SDSU is the catalyst for creating exciting, welcoming and vibrant student life for 2,500 Jewish students each year. Hillel is where students form life-long friendships, connect with their Jewish heritage, and explore a variety of learning and programmatic opportunities. Hillel has long been at the center of Jewish life for thousands of college students at SDSU, but it has never had adequate facilities - a place that students could proudly call “home.” Only now is that moment on the horizon.

Building A New Home FOR JEWISH LIFE AT SDSU It is a testament to the strength of Hillel’s lay leadership, professional staff, students and the San Diego Jewish community that Hillel at SDSU has managed to thrive during the past 30 years despite its inadequate facilities. To be fully effective in meeting the challenges of building Jewish community in the 21st century, Hillel must have a modern facility. Not only will a new facility provide a proper home for students, but it will also serve as a vital hub with space to create, organize and implement a full array of programs. The Melvin Garb Hillel Center will serve as a beacon of creative Jewish experiences and a point of pride for the entire San Diego Jewish community. Hillel has commissioned the prominent San Diego architectural firm MW Steele Group Inc to design the new building located on Lindo Paseo, adjacent to campus. Hillel broke ground on April 28, 2013, and the building is scheduled to open by fall 2014.
