Dear Friends, We are thrilled to bring Campus SuperStar to San Diego! The rousing response and quick sellout of Hillel of San Diego’s inaugural community event means we’re onto something special. The exhilarating entertainment we’ll experience tonight showcases the talent, diversity and vitality of the population Hillel works with in our three programs: Hillel at UCSD, Hillel at SDSU, and Cal State San Marcos. We thank the generous sponsors and benefactors who made this event possible, and who provide the critical resources for Hillel to be able to enrich the lives of San Diego’s Jewish college students. Hillel is the only Jewish organization with the capacity to engage the majority of university-age Jews in San Diego. The college years are a time of exploration, independence, new experiences and forging future paths. Hillel’s welcoming, vibrant communities encourage students of all backgrounds to build lifelong connections to their Jewish life, to each other, and to Jewish communities in Israel and worldwide. In paying tribute to the memory of Lori Bolotin z”l, and in honoring her entire family this evening, we carry forward their values of strong leadership in building Jewish community. We treasure the opportunity to steward that legacy to strengthen Jewish life for generations to come. Sincerely,
Emily Jennewein President

Campus Auditions Showcasing the Dynamism of San Diego’s Campuses Quite honestly, with a first year event, we did not know what to expect, but we were simply awed by the students singing their hearts out at each audition. More than 80 students came out for the auditions held at UCSD and SDSU in January to attempt to become San Diego’s first Campus SuperStar. After the first round, twenty-six students were called back for the semi-final round held at SDSU on February 1st. Tasked with the difficult job of narrowing the field to 10 finalists were five judges: John Craig Johnson, Laurinda Nikkel, Kim Heil, Pauline Tweed and Ryan Scrimger. “The judges had an extremely challenging job - the students at the call-back were incredibly talented,” added Musical Director, Cris O’Bryon. “Their deliberation following the semi-final was intense, but they were able to agree on 10 amazing finalists.” 9
Thank you
Hillel of San Diego, for enriching the lives of San Diego’s Jewish college students. With Appreciation, Karen Helrich & Bertram Edelstein

The mission of Hillel of San Diego is to be a vibrant Jewish campus presence and to involve the maximum number of university-age Jews in ways that foster a lasting commitment to Jewish life. The college years are a pivotal time in a young person’s life. It is a time of self-exploration and discovery as they develop into adulthood. National statistics tell us that 85% of all Jews between the ages of 18 and 22 are on college campuses. This is the only time in the life of a young Jewish adult when we know where they are! Hillel of San Diego is uniquely positioned to have a positive, transformative impact on their lives. Hillel of San Diego encourages students of all backgrounds to form deep, personal connections to Jewish life, learning and Israel, through Jewish exploration, leadership, and a sense of belonging. Our three programs – Hillel at UCSD, Hillel at SDSU, and Hillel at Cal State San Marcos – each take a unique approach to a common goal of inspiring and enabling young Jews to find their place in the world. Hillel helps students expand Jewish knowledge, hone leadership skills, bolster ties to Israel, and volunteer in social justice work. Just as the university establishes a professional foundation for students’ futures, Hillel builds a Jewish foundation for their lifetime. Over the decades, Hillel’s approach to education and engagement has evolved. Once seen as “the synagogue on campus,” Hillel today encourages students to take ownership of their Jewish experience and define Jewish their own way. The destination of their Jewish journey is up to the student — Hillel provides the encouragement, the tools, and the space for exploration.

In Loving Memory …
Many people are scared to ask others for money, but Lori Bolotin had no reservations. Lori served as Development Director for Hillel of San Diego from 2007 to 2012, a period of tremendous growth for the organization. She was responsible for raising millions of dollars to meet the operating, programmatic and capital needs of Hillel and to help people invest in our Jewish future. Friends, family and colleagues admired Lori as an extraordinarily talented fundraiser who was tenacious, personable and compassionate. All who knew Lori valued her deep loyalty, love and support. Before Hillel, Lori volunteered and led women’s philanthropy efforts at the Jewish Federation of San Diego County for 15 years. Lori also worked for nearly 20 years in apparel manufacturing. She was a vice president for sales at The Weekend Exercise Co., a women’s sports apparel company, before she left to pursue philanthropy full time. Her experience in sales and time volunteering with Jewish organizations gave her the skills to become an excellent professional fundraiser.
Lori Ann Levinson was born to Arthur and Sandy Levinson on March 19, 1956 and grew up in Del Cerro, attending Hearst Elementary School and Lewis Middle School and Patrick Henry High School. She attended UCLA from 1974 to 1976 and the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles in 1978. 34
… Of Lori Bolotin
Lori passed away in December, 2012 at the age of 56. Lori’s loving family, including first husband Neil Singer, husband, Howard Bolotin; son, David Singer (Danielle Rugoff Singer); daughter, Shanna Singer Lovit (Adam Lovit); stepdaughter, Sarah Harrison (Todd Harrison); stepson, Stephen Bolotin; parents, Arthur and Sandy Levinson; and brother, Michael Levinson have continued their strong support of Jewish charities, including the endowment of the Lori Bolotin Director of Development position at Hillel of San Diego. Lori’s legacy will live on through the work of the professionals who serve in this role by giving people the opportunity to make a difference in the community. By making every supporter feel proud about the lives they are touching. By pursuing Hillel's goals with tenacity and passion. And by giving young Jews a place to belong, to grow and thrive. We celebrate Lori's zeal for inspiring others to invest in our Jewish future. We honor her example of tenacity, resilience and passionate leadership. We carry forward this legacy from generation to generation.

We are so proud to pay tribute to the family of dear friend L or i B oloti n. Each of you has demonstrated a deep commitment to Judaism through your generosity and work on behalf of San Diego and the Jewish Community.
Lori would have loved the idea of Campus SuperStar, and would have worked tirelessly to ensure its success. She was passionate about Hillel, it’s mission and the dynamic programming they provide to Jewish students on our campuses. I’m sure she must be beaming from up high with the knowledge that her entire family is pitching in to help advance Hillel of San Diego though their support of this event. What a fitting way to honor and perpetuate her legacy.
With love and appreciation,
Marcia Hazan and Mark Cammell
