HSC INTERNATIONAL STUDENT PROGRAM

HSC offers a comprehensive academic and co-curricular program for a select and limited group of international visa students annually. A dedicated staff member supports international students in a program that gives our visiting students, as well as our domestic students, the opportunity to learn about diverse cultures, gain new perspectives and meet friends. An International Student is defined as a non-permanent resident of Canada. HSC Program Fee Payment International students are required to pay the total of annual HSC tuition, expansion fees, registration fees and all fees required by our third party homestay and international health insurance providers. Acting as a facilitator, HSC will remit the homestay and insurance fees directly to these third parties on the students’ behalf. The total amount payable to HSC upon enrolment is found in the International Fee Schedule. A full fees paid letter will be issued for immigration purposes following the confirmed receipt of payment and completed enrolment documents. Late payment charges on overdue account balances will be assessed, and HSC reserves the right to withdraw services if accounts are not paid in accordance with the established due dates. Enrolment and re-enrolment fees may be wired, or paid by Canadian bank draft. Please contact HSC Admissions for our wire transfer information.

A not-for-profit independent school, Hillfield Strathallan College is a registered charity. Our operating budget is primarily

determined by our tuition fee revenue. We operate our classrooms, repair our buildings and facilities, and maintain our grounds and playing fields within our annual budget.

Our future fees are set once a year based on forecasted annual operating expenses for the corresponding school year. Please see the 2017-2018 International Fee Schedule.

Student Accounts and Statements

STUDENT WITHDRAWAL POLICY

Upon enrolment, each student will receive an HSC financial account with an account number that will allow you to easily make Hillfield Strathallan College a payee on your online banking.

HSC admits only a select and limited number of international study visa students each year. This recruitment process begins eight to twelve months prior to the start of the desired academic year. This process culminates in January when fee payments and enrolment and re-enrolment documents are due. Should a student seek to withdraw from enrolment after this time, is it unlikely that HSC will have enough time to replace this enrolment. Accordingly, the College will not refund any HSC fees paid or cancel any HSC fee obligation. Similarly, if a student is withdrawn during the school year, or HSC dismisses a student (i.e. for breach of the HSC Student Code of Conduct), the family remains obligated to pay for all charges accruing to the student account to the date of dismissal and no HSC fees paid will be refunded.

The account is accessible for international students to charge items from our Campus Store, such as uniforms and books, as well as school trips and excursions. The monthly account balance can be paid via online banking, interac, wire transfer and cash or cheque in our Business Office. For more information on HSC student accounts and statements, please contact the HSC Business Office at extension 110 or staplefordde@hsc.on.ca.

New Student Application, Registration AND Fees To complete the online application process, a nonrefundable application fee of $250 is required via credit card payment. Upon acceptance, the applicant will be sent an International Enrolment Package. To secure placement, all enrolment forms must be completed, signed by both parents as contracting parties, and returned within 14 business days along with all fees and charges set out in your enrolment letter.

Enrolment AND RE-ENROLMENT Contracts and Financial Obligations Each time you enrol a new student in HSC, you must complete and sign an International Enrolment Contract with the College. The contract between the family and the College ensures our commitment to hold a place for the student, and the family’s commitment to meeting its fee obligations. In subsequent years, parents of current students who are returning for their next year at the College, must complete and sign a re-enrolment offer form, generally sent in January, as a renewal and an update to the original enrolment contract with HSC. The College re-enrolment process is used to predict class sizes and teaching resources for the following year.

an exception to the policy will be granted if Immigration Canada (IRCC) does not approve the student’s Visa or Study Permit. These students will be given a full refund of all HSC fees, except the application and one-time non-refundable registration fee. To obtain the refund, a request in writing must be submitted to HSC and include the letter of refusal from Immigration Canada (IRCC).

Family Homestay International Visa students, not living with family holding Canadian citizenship or permanent residency, are required to register with our family homestay program as a condition of enrolment in 2017–18 . This program is provided by a third party, Canada Homestay Network (CHN). Additional services (airport pickup, etc.) are offered by CHN at an additional fee to the student.

THE CANADA HOMESTAY NETWORK The Canada Homestay Network (CHN) works with HSC to place our students with host families in the local area accessible by HSC’s transportation routes. Once a student is placed with a host family, supervision and support are provided by CHN’s Relationship Manager 24 hours a day. The HSC Senior School Global Studies Coordinator also supports students to ensure that homestay accommodations are meeting their needs. To register and learn more about CHN’s offerings, visit the Canada Homestay Network website.

Respect. Integrity. Community. Individuality. Determination. Our core mission is to develop joyful and engaged students who live life with purpose. The best learning happens when students are happy to come to school, have opportunities to follow their passions, and participate in deep learning experiences that challenge them. Joyful, engaged students develop strong relationships with their peers and with the caring adults who spark and support their learning both inside the classroom and beyond. Their journey at HSC prepares students to live with purpose—to understand their world, inspire, lead, act, and make a difference in their own unique ways.
