HSC SCHOLARSHIPS

Virtual Academic Scholarships Rules and Regulations

HSC is proud of our scholarship recipients and their relationship with our Donors. We regularly report back to our donors and ask that our recipients collaborate in the effort. You will receive dates according to your scholarship for reporting needs and the Advancement Office will work with you directly for any letters, images or updates. We look forward to building this relationship with you!

QUESTION ANSWER

How many scholarships are you allowed to earn?

HSC allows each candidate to receive one major scholarship (Leadership, Arts, Morgan, Manbert/Serniuk, Bear) along with an academic scholarship. If a student is the recipient of two major scholarships, they will default to the award of greater financial value.

What if you’re sick during the academic scholarship exams? HSC will only offer one time/day for academic scholarship exams. We apologize if illness prohibits you from participating.

What if you have an IEP/ILP?

All feasible accommodations will be met as per an enrolled students IEP/ILP.

What if your power or WIFI goes out?

What platform are you using to monitor the exam? Am I being recorded?

Should your WIFI go out, don’t stop. It is our hope that you will be able to reconnect quickly and the exam software will continue to work, with the timer countdown paused until your connection is re-established. A personal hotspot is acceptable. You will also receive a direct text number to your exam facilitator should you need to reach them offline. Otherwise you will be able to connect via the chat in your Zoom room.

Students will be asked to complete their scholarship exams while being monitored on Zoom. This will further provide students an opportunity to send messages to the exam facilitator should they need guidance during the competition. Therefore you will need access to a computer with a working camera (video will be on throughout the duration of the exams) and a microphone (microphone will be off unless otherwise requested).

How do you ensure the identity of the exam taker?

The identity of exam takers will be confirmed by the facilitators. Each enrolled student at HSC has provided an image accessible by the scholarship team.

How will you ensure the integrity of the exam and rules? All test takers will be held to the HSC Student Code of Conduct. As such any student observed breaking the integrity, or rules of the exam/competition will immediately lose eligibility to participate and will be held in accordance with the above noted policy.

What software will be used?

Can you utilize voice to text?

How long are the exams?

What if I have to get up during the exam?

What if I am in a different time zone?

Please contact admissions@hsc.on.ca in advance so voice to text options may be discussed.

Time will be shared by the facilitator at the start of exams. Anticipate approximately an hour of math and an hour of English. Time will vary for students with IEP/ILP’s. Plan time to review your answers before completion.

If you choose to take a break, your exam time will not stop. You must inform the Zoom facilitator and once they have acknowledged your request, you may leave. Please reconnect upon your return. Departures of more than five minutes may result in your test becoming ineligible for participation.

All exams will run as EST. We apologize but will not run exams on alternative days or times.

Please note: All supporting materials should be submitted to scholarships@hsc.on.ca

Registration forms will be shared with all eligible students via myHSC and will require parent completion to participate
