We’re Off to See the Wizard!
HSC Senior School presents one of the world’s most beloved musicals, The Wizard of Oz! Join Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, Scarecrow, the Wicked Witch of the West, Glinda, our very own munchkins and a full rainbow of characters for a whimsical adventure through the merry old land of Oz. Performed with so much courage and heart, anyone with a brain will be there. If a twister doesn’t blow you away, this magical and marvelous show certainly will!
Follow the yellow brick road in this delightful stage adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s beloved tale, featuring the iconic musical score from the MGM film. The timeless tale, in which young Dorothy Gale travels from Kansas over the rainbow to the magical Land of Oz, continues to thrill audiences worldwide.
Message from the Director of Arts Nora Hammond '98
Welcome to HSC’s Virtue-Fitzgerald Centre for the Arts. The College’s 2022-2023 performing arts season has been one for the record books and I am thrilled that you’ve joined along for the ride. Our production of Clue! was a delightful display of the comedic and dramatic range of our Senior students, many of whom, made their HSC stage debut. Our Middle School performance of Oliver! Jr. sparked similar joy for audiences with impressive musical numbers, stellar stage production and incredible costuming by a devoted group of volunteers. The new year brought the revival of yet another much-loved arts tradition at HSC: the Staff, Alumni, Parent musical. Working together for months, HSC staff, parents, faculty, alumni and even a few students brought Young Frankenstein to life (in more ways than one!).
Whether this is your first HSC theatrical performance or you’ve been lucky enough to attend a prior show, we are so grateful for your support and can’t wait for you to experience the wonderful world of The Wizard of Oz. As you’ll see, our Senior School students bring a marvelous breadth of dramatic, comedic and vocal talent to this timeless classic. The passion, talent and dedication of this cast and crew reminds us that HSC is a place unlike any other with truly incredible people. With cameos from our Early Education students and parent volunteers working behind the scenes, this ensemble finds our whole College connected in the name of the arts. There’s no place like HSC!
As we near the end of the 2022-2023 academic year, we are looking forward to celebrating the culmination of student work from across all artistic disciplines and grades during our Showcase of the Arts in mid-May. Closer to graduation, members of the class of ‘23 will have a chance to display their musical talents at our Spring Grad Recital on May 31. We hope you can join us then. We have no doubt that you will be delighted by the collaborative creative spirit that is thriving at HSC, and we are confident that you will be back for more. Until next showtime, enjoy the world of Oz!
