Come and see ‘The Star of Murrungal’ a nearly 120-year-old handmade bullock wagon. The original proofing press from the Burrowa News. The ‘Hume Costume Collection’, and lots more. The Museum is a good starting point for the Historical Shamrock Trail around Boorowa. We will do Family Research, if your family lived in Boorowa, for you. A nice day trip from Canberra. SOUTHERN CROSS CINEMA YOUNG

Southern Cross Cinema is Young’s own single-screen Cinema, run by volunteers from across the Hilltops Region. Films screening Thursday to Sunday, and daily during school holidays. Check with the Cinema for showtimes.

BOOROWA COURT HOUSE ARTS & CRAFTS

The Boorowa Court House Arts & Crafts Co-op, with Magistrates Tea Room, are housed in the historical Courthouse building which opened in 1886. Embracing art, craft and produce from Boorowa and District, it is a must-see for visitors to the region. There is locally made arts and crafts, knitted and crocheted items and produce using locally grown fruit and vegetables. In the Magistrates Tea Rooms enjoy light snacks and Devonshire Tea with scones served with jam and cream.

LAMBING FLAT CHINESE TRIBUTE GARDEN

Enjoy a relaxing wander through the Lambing Flat Chinese Tribute Garden, built to pay tribute to Chinese miners who came to the region during the gold rush period in the 1860s. The gardens include interpretive signage detailing Young’s mining heritage and information on wild birds, fish and wildlife. Picnic facilities, barbeques and toilet facilities are all available making it a perfect stop for lunch. The Garden is located to the south of Young, 5km from the CBD.

POPPA’S FUDGE & JAM FACTORY

We grow our own vegetables, fruit and berries on our farm on the town limits in Young. This ensures the freshest and best quality for our jams, sauces and other products including our delicious cherry pies. We make over 80 different varieties of jams, chutneys and sauces and 40 different fudges all hand made on the premises. We are affectionately known as the sweetest place in town!

LAMBING FLAT FOLK MUSEUM

The museum houses a valuable collection relating to the early days of Lambing Flat and Burrangong. The Roll Up banner carried during the 1860-61 riots is in a room about the gold rush. There are displays of glass art from Helmut Hiebl, hairdressing memorabilia and a buggy made by John Rogan in 1880. School and coach groups are welcome. Only a short walk from the CBD. Panning equipment can be hired for fossicking enthusiasts.

GRENFELL

The Weddin Mountains National Park is located near the beautiful town of Grenfell, 30mins north of Young. It is the ideal location for birdwatching, camping, bush walking, horseback and two-wheel adventures. With spectacular views, BBQ’s, undercover picnic area, camping sites and unique Seaton’s Farm. At Grenfell, stock up on supplies, browse the boutique shops, sit with Henry Lawson and see the painted silos.
