Claude and Uli, who owned and operated Hilton Head’s La Normandie Restaurant for ten years, now hold forth in their Moss Creek Village restaurant, just over the Hilton Head bridge. Chef Clause, a native of Normandie, France, has cooked in some of the world’s best kitchens, including Maxim’s in Paris, the Connaught (Chef Saucier) in London and Ernie’s in San Francisco. Culinary school graduate Uli orchestrates matters in the dining room, welcomes guests and makes them feel very much at home.
Claude and Uli’s uses only the freshest and highest quality ingredients to create the wonderful food for which they have received numerous accolades. They offer in-house preparation of just about everything that is served, inclusing all bread, pastries, appetizers, entrees and desserts. We are located on the scenic May River Road in Bluffton, South Carolina – one mile west of Historic Old Town. Located on property purchased by Grandma Cahill in 1918, we continue to be a working farm. In-season vegetables are grown throughout the year. Once harvested, the vegetables are sold in our country market and used in our home cooked dishes prepared in the “Chicken Kitchen.” Along with our own homegrown vegetables, Cahill’s Market stocks inseason produce from local and regional suppliers. Chow Daddy’s, located at 14b Executive Park Road, off of Pope Avenue, is new to the island. After six months of recipe taste testing and thirty menu revisions they settled on their final menu. All that was left was a name. Price’s and Sandy’s sister Hope came up with the name Chow Daddy’s and it stuck. Chow Daddy’s offers a wide variety of delicious foods, but focuses on buns, bowls, and tacos. Buns signify the sandwiches and burgers they offer and bowls refers to the cold and hot bowl options. Their cold bowls include super fresh salads and their hot bowls comprise of smoked pork, smoked chicken, fish, or steak over rice, vegetables or potatoes. All of their pork and chicken is smoked in their giant Green Eggs under their custom hood system and their barbeque sauces are made in house daily. Some of the popular highly recommended choices are the kale and quinoa salad, house smoked fried chicken platter, the rib eye steak burger and fish tacos. Also, to satisfy your sweet tooth they offer house made ice cream sandwiches that will have you coming back for more. Robert Murray and Chef Gary Langevin have opened Hilton Head Island’s newest authentic Italian grill, overlooking the marina at Shelter Cove Harbour. La Fontana Waterfront Grill & Pizzeria is serving up lunch and dinner, seven days a week. Chef’s specials include lamb rack & wild mushroom risotto, lobster ravioli allo scorlia and filet mignon. Gourmet personal pizzas and calzones are also served.“It’s the most authentic Italian you can get,” Langevin said. “We’re all Italians and we make everything in-house. I only use the freshest ingredients. It takes time to mince garlic, but I don’t buy anything in jars. All of our herbs are fresh and we buy everything local.” The friendship between Murray and Chef Langevin is the perfect culinary blend between food, passion and business. Murray’s successful business career allowed him to dine at some of the world’s finest restaurants. His culinary passion eventually led to him to purchase two large restaurants in the New England area. After he relocated to Hilton Head in 2004, he decided to open a restaurant in the Lowcountry. During one of his many trips to Charleston, he ate at a restaurant where Langevin was the chef. The two hit it off immediately and an epicurean relationship was formed. In October 2013, Murray purchased Little Venice at Shelter Cove and called on Chef Langevin to help turn it into an outstanding Italian restaurant. Experienced executive chef Giuseppe Galone, an accomplished chef in Italy and Miami, was also added to the staff. Murray, Langevin, Galone and the rest of their team strive to offer a tremendous dining experience, based on great food and superior service. Lucky Rooster Kitchen + Bar
Clayton Rollison has a vision. The 33-yearold chef has spent 20 years learning, honing his craft and carrying out other chef’s visions. Now, as the owner of the Lucky Rooster Kitchen + Bar, Rollison is unwavering in his pursuit of a truly unique Hilton Head dining experience – even as many on the island doubt his approach. “I’ve been told for years that what I’m doing isn’t going to work, but we’re attempting to carve out a niche as a truly original place to dine,” Rollison said. “There’s a combination of comfort foods and adventure that I want to present to our customer. There’s steak, there’s chicken, but we’ve had octopus as a staple since day one. And we have a seared foie gras with apples, walnuts toast and sweet potato. So we’re challenging folks to step outside of their palette comfort zone.” The menu at Lucky Rooster is 25 percent adventurous, 50 percent of what Rollison’s signature seasonal progressive Southern food and 25 percent standards. It all works out to an American bistro with a Southern soul. The staff prints their menus in-house to have as much flexibility with mixing and matching dishes. Rollison lights up when he talks about his slow-cooking approach and about ingredients, like the short rib dish. “We make them with a tonkatsu sauce with a mix of fruits and vegetables that creates a sweetness and gives the ribs a real depth of flavor,” he said. He’s equally passionate about the drinks his staff offers. Rollison researched some of the most legendary mixologists like Jerry Thomas to come up with the restaurant’s craft cocktails, like the Moscow Mule – a 1941 John G. Martin recipe of vodka, fresh lime and the house ginger soda. Doughboys Pizza
Chris and Kim Gregory have opened Hilton Head Island’s newest pizza place at 1-B New Orleans Road, next to the Mattress Firm. Dough Boys specializes in pizza, salads and subs for dine-in, take out and delivery. “It’s a great spot in a great location, and who doesn’t love pizza?,” Chris Gregory said. “It’s a family friendly restaurant.” For Chris, it’s a return to his college days. He owned a pizza place on campus at the University of Massachusetts and has brought the same concept to the island. “We’re going to focus on the real thin crust, like a St. Louis style pizza,” Gregory said. “We are also going to do a Sicillian style with a thick crust.” Dough Boys is offering three types of crust, all made from scratch, and three different styles of sauce. Each pizza will also have a unique cheese blend. The Gregorys have also renovated their building, which used to be Bravo Pizza. They’ve added a restroom to make it more dine-in friendly. Marley’s Island Grille, located at 35 Office Park Road, (right outside the Sea Pines main gate) has something for everyone. Owners John and Karla Remegi have opened a Subway restaurant in Coligny Plaza. The new location is the 14th Subway restaurant the couple own in Beaufort County. The 12,000 square foot multi-functional ballroom at Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Resort has been renovated. The ballroom has been re-painted, wall features were added, the ceiling was replaced and some of the ceiling lighting has been changed. The Frosty Frog Café in Coligny Plaza has a new outside deck. The deck adds close to 100 seats to the restaurant. More than 80 percent of it is covered by a retractable roof.
