all is a beautiful time to explore and enjoy Hilton Head and the Bluffton area. The children are back in school, the weather is ideal and many of our most popular events and festivals are on the horizon. This fall Hilton Head seems to offer a festival for everyone, no matter your interest. For food and beverage connoisseurs, there is the Italian Heritage Festival (Sept. 22) Burgers & Brew Festival (Sept. 28) and the Oyster Festival (Nov. 8-10). Your intellectual curiosity will be satisfied during a new four-day ideas festival named ImagiNATION 2013 (Oct. 23-26). Additionally, you can soak up some art at the Public Art Exhibition (Sept. 21 – Dec. 31). For automobile aficionados, there is the 2013 Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival & Concours d’Elegance (Oct. 25-Nov. 3). For music lovers, the excitement grows with opening of the 32nd Season of Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra on October 14 and performances at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina throughout the year. The Hilton Head Island area is home to hundreds of great restaurants, ranging from secret hideaways to delightful full-service, high end hotspots. Chefs from all corners of the world have brought the best American, French, German, Italian, Mediterranean, Greek, Asian, Mexican and Southwestern cuisine right here to our paradise. You can also enjoy regional fare such as local seafood and farm-to-table restaurants. Inside you will find locations, descriptions and menus from the best Hilton Head Island and Bluffton restaurants. Use the Table of Contents as your overview and navigation tool. Restaurants are listed alphabetically with their phone number and the type of cuisine they specialize in. You will also find the page location for each restaurant’s advertisement or menu, restaurant description and the map location number. The Table of Contents can also be used as a quick reference guide to see who is open for breakfast, lunch or dinner along with several specialty categories such as outdoor dining, children’s menu, take-out, late night and more. We also provide information on local entertainment, happy hours, early bird specials, dog friendly places and few other surprises. Please let us know if you have any suggestions to make our future issues even better. Be sure to check out our website (www.forkandfun.com) and like us on Facebook (hhirestaurants). We hope you enjoy Fork & Fun and your visit to the area. We are glad that you are here!

Continued from page 16 back into time and visit the Big Bamboo Cafe, patterned after an imaginary bar on an Eastern Pacific island during World War II. The popular restaurant and bar has expanded its outside deck on the second level of Coligny Plaza, adding about 50 feet to the front of the restaurant. The restaurant hired a team of culinary experts to help revamp the menu, and now focus on fresh seafood. Many fried items have been replaced with healthier grilled options, such as chargrilled chicken tacos. The appetizers and side items are also more sophisticated, from blue cheese coleslaw to citrus cerviche.

OUR STORY
Upon graduating from the University of Georgia in the Spring of 1975, Jump and Phil decided to pursue their zoology and journalism degrees in a mature and professional manner...they moved to the beach. Gerald Ford was President, the Island had no stop lights, their house on the beach rented for $200 a month, and a six pack of beer cost $1.35. They decided to stay for the long run. After 19 years of working in many of the Island’s excellent restaurants, the time came to branch out on their own. The Island has changed since 1975, but two things remain constant...good food & friendly service.

Executive Chef Russell Keane, a graduate of the prestigious Johnson & Wales University and longtime contributor to the Hilton Head Island culinary scene, has opened NEO – the Lowcountry’s first “farm to table” gastropub. Known for his adventurous neo-classic cooking style, entertaining spirit and passion for fresh, premium ingredients, Chef Russell features locally sourced items (90 percent of the menu is sourced from within 90 miles), such as fresh local seafood and organic farm-raised beef, as well as artisan pizzas, wines, craft beers, handcrafted cocktails and more in his new restaurant. Conveniently situated in the remodeled location formerly home to Upper Crust Pizza, in the Moss Creek Village, NEO offers a casually chic atmosphere where rustic warmth meets prohibition era cool. NEO’s lunch menu emphasizes grassfed burgers, house smoked barbecue, sandwiches, wraps, an array of garden fresh salads and artisan pizza by the slice. You’ll love the homemade pimento cheese. NEO’s dinner menu features several popular tapas, for which Chef Russell is known, as well as Southern comfort entrées with neo classic twists: e.g., farm fresh deviled eggs with wickled red onion marmalade, free range chicken pot pie, tender braised short ribs, grassfed beef steaks, naturally raised pork bacon steak and baby back ribs, and decadent maple & bacon cheesecake. NEO also offers vegetarian selections, a

children’s menu and gluten-free items. NEO’s hours of operation are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday – Saturday for restaurant dining, with the lounge remaining open until later. Happy bird is 4-6 p.m. daily. Guests enjoy 25 percent off NEO’s entire food and drink menu. Tasty Tuesday events from 6-8 p.m. include complimentary tastings (e.g., scotch, wine, etc.) that change weekly. Reservations accepted via phone. For more information, call 843-837-5111.
Ombra Cucina Rustica
A new casual elegant Italian restaurant has opened in the Village at Wexford. Longtime local Italian chef Michael Cirafesi has branched out with distinguished Philadelphia chef Nunzio Patruno to open Ombra Cucina Rustica. “All executive chefs want to eventually open their own restaurant,” Cirafesi said. “We all have that dream. We follow the rules of classic Italian cuisine. We will be set apart by our standards and who we are.” Cirafesi started cooking in 1991 under Patruno, who was considered one of the top Italian chefs in the country. The two have completely remodeled the building where Antonio’s was located, creating an environment similar to a rustic Tuscan farmhouse. Being of Italian heritage Chef Michael Cirafesi proudly promotes all of the foods and wines of Italy. He prepares all pastas, homemade gnocchi, desserts and breads daily as well as a large variety of fish, veal, beef and game additions using only natural and fresh ingredients imported from Italy. An extensive wine list is available with a brilliant array of wines from every region in Italy. The restaurant also features a European style bar and lounge with a large selection of Italian specialty cocktails, aperitifs, digestivos, homemade limoncello, and grappa. Open nightly from 4:30 until 10 p.m. Reservations are recommended and walk-ins welcome. Call (843) 842-5505 or visitombrahhi.com.
Ruby Lee’s

N E W
In December, the native islander teamed up with his mother, Deborah Govan, to open a unique Southern-style restaurant on the north end. Ruby Lee’s, named in honor of Singleton’s grandmother, is the island’s newest hotspot for sports, blues and soul food. “I get excited just talking about it,” Singleton said. “We’re making everything fresh, to-order. And we are able to offer it at an affordable price in a great location. The feedback has been great and people are really enjoying it.” Using time-tested family recipes, Ruby Lee’s serves up such comfort food classics as authentic fried chicken, southern fried pork chops, smoked baby back ribs, seasoned pulled pork, sautéed collard greens, fresh seafood and more. Live entertainment is offered at 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Along with good food and music, Ruby Lee’s is also the place to be for sports fans. The restaurant has all of the sports packages and offers a daily happy hour from 4-7 p.m. Plans for a Sunday brunch are in the works. “I think our eclectic appeal makes us stand out,” Singleton said. “We’ve got sports, blues and soul food … and our food can be healthy. We offer it in grilled and fried versions. We also have a build-your-own salad. We’re not trying to do too many things. The things we do, we’re going to do very well. The Lowcountry southern appeal is something we are going to try and master.” Ruby Lee’s is located at 46 Old Wild Horse Road, next to the Litter Box Thrift Store. Hours are 11 a.m.11 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon-11 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, call 843-681-7829.

Desserts are from a small pastry shop outside of Charlotte. “Nothing that we have has preservatives,” Lonyai said. “Everything is very healthy. We really tried to focus on having everything supplied by American manufacturers that offer high-quality items.” Hours are 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday and noon-8 p.m. on Sunday. Tavern 46
Bluffton welcomes a new restaurant & sports bar! Tavern 46 (located on Highway 46, just off U.S. 278) is a unique dining and entertainment destination in a familiar location. Formerly Montana’s Restaurant & Grizzly Bar, Tavern 46 has a new identity to match its new name. “This place has been through so many different changes over the past 10 or 12 years,” general manager Brad Barnette said. “It’s been a biker bar, it’s been a pool hall, it’s been a wild game restaurant, and it’s been a southern restaurant. There is no identity here. We’re just going to cut ties with Montana’s and create a new identity.” The casual, yet upscale dining atmosphere offers a menu including a delicious selection of steaks and local seafood. Try gourmet burgers, award-winning barbecue ribs, slow-cooked pork chops or one of many tastefully pleasing desserts. Tavern 46 features an exquisite bar, one of the largest in the Lowcountry. Offering a unique selection of 34 beers on tap (27 from craft microbrews), 15 flat screen TV’s, and service exceeding all expectations. Tavern 46 is open seven days a week and offers an early bird menu and a daily happy hour you don’t want to miss! See live entertainment on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Brunch is served from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sundays. For more information and reservations, call 843-815-2327.

It’s the same high-quality food but in a bar atmosphere.” Along with gourmet burgers, the new menu offers several unique sandwiches and sharable foods, such as nachos and oyster shooters.
