Lightstay System

In line with our commitment to reduce energy consumption, most of the hotel’s architectural lighting has been replaced with LED light technology systems. LEDs consume minimum energy and significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The estimated annual energy saving is 1.500.000 kWh!

Installed water flow reducers in guestrooms and public areas, reducing annual water consumption per room by 16%. The annual water saving is calculated to 16,000 m3, which is equivalent to the annual water consumption of about 65 households!

The hotel has implemented partial electricity and thermal energy production via a unified, integrated system. Better utilization of fuel results to proven decreased harmful gas emissions towards the environment, particularly of CO2, one of the most damaging constituents to the greenhouse effect.

Lightstay is the company's proprietary sustainability measurement system. Hilton Worldwide program is created to calculate and analyze environmental impact. The LightStay system measures indicators across 200 operational practices including housekeeping, paper-product use, food waste, chemical storage, air quality and transportation.

Waste Management at Hilton Athens Recycling across hotel areas

The hotel carries out separate sorting activities for materials such as cartons, office paper, glass bottles, plastic containers and frying oils that are given to third-parties for recycling.

Soap Recycling

Linen Recycling

Recycled bottle caps for a wheelchair

In collaboration with “Soap for all” organization, lightly used soap-bars are recycled in order to contribute to environmental protection, while offering support to socially vulnerable groups and strengthening child-institutions and families in need. More than half a ton was recycled for Hilton Athens in 2019.

Our old linen are sent to “Linens for Life”, a charity organization, which transforms them into shoe bags, that we then buy for the rooms. With this income, the charity organization manages to support people in need.

Plastic bottle caps are collected by our team members and offered to the “Association of Paraplegic and Physically Disabled” in the county of Pella, which in turn swaps each ton of bottle caps to a wheelchair for people in need.
