Inscribed by the author to the actress Cecile Sorel, dated June 27, 1908, and with an additional plate laid-in inscribed to Sorel, dated 1903. Light wear to spine; rubbing to slipcase at edges.
In his book, Marcel Proust: A Life, William C. Carter notes a celebration of the publication of this book was held June 27, 1908, at the Pavillon des Muses. Montesquiou invited friends and distinguished artists (leaving out Proust) and we might presume this was inscribed to Sorel at that time.
