The Word According to Elijah

Hey Elijah, What should we be praying for?

Pray for a bountiful harvest!

Are there any birdies in the house?!

Mark 4:29

“But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.'

The Changing Seasons!

nother summer has come and gone; it went as fast as it came. Another season is about to begin... the fall season. I remember my mom would always give our home a good cleaning in the spring after a long winter and then again in the fall. Of course, we cleaned every week, but spring and fall was the big clean, where the couches and all the furniture was pulled out and everything got a good, over-all cleaning. I also remember the sounds of the seasons changing; for example, I remember when the school bus was coming; you could hear it, even when it was far off. Smells change also... you can smell the difference when seasons change from summer to fall, then autumn moving closer to winter, and then when spring is around the corner once again, you can almost taste the earthy smell of the ground and dirt as the snow melts away and the ground is damp before it is dried up from the heat of the

sun. Our body mass and health can change as well; for example, in the winter months, we tend to stay inside more, eat more and sleep more than we normally would if it were spring. Once the weather warms up outside, we do more outside physical activities such as walking, running or riding our bikes. But we can benefit greatly by just trying to embrace the changing seasons, especially winter, as this seems to be a long drawn out month for us to endure. But by doing this, our health will improve. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." This reminds me that we should always prepare for a season of change spiritually also. It's a good time to sit back and evaluate where we are in our growth, because we should always be growing in the word of God. Hebrews 5:12-14 says, "For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles on the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of

full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both and good and evil." We need to be asking God to show us whatever is in our lives that is not pleasing in His eyes, and then we need to remove it right away. It matters what books we read, what movies we watch and what music we listen to. It is important to fill our minds and hearts with biblical truths to help us grow in the word of God. It is imperative that we read, watch and listen to the right things. Galatians 6:7-16 says, "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith." As the four seasons change every year, spiritual changes come in seasons as well. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, "To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven." Jesus has already seen and knows about everything that concerns us. He is the only one who knows

From the Pulpit... the seasons and He has set them all in order. We experience every sort of season our lives can possibly go through, as well as the good and the bad. As natural seasons come in cycles, each one brings with it its own challenges. The spiritual seasons of our lives help us grow, for they are always changing. For the natural seasons to change, there must be a certain positioning of the earth, sun and moon. In our spiritual lives, we also must position ourselves into alignment with God in order to benefit. How many times do we sit and hope for changes to happen in our lives and we wait for God to fix our situations? One thing we forget, however, is that we should always stop, be still and listen for God's quiet voice. We need to pray to Him and ask Him for guidance in all areas, to start the changing of a season in our lives. We may need to educate ourselves by taking a course in school or online in a certain area where God is leading us. Maybe, we need to get plenty of sleep to be healthy and strong for our new season where God is leading us. One of the hardest things to do is to walk away from something that we are so comfortable with in our lives... it could be a job or a house... and place ourselves in new surroundings. When we begin

The Changing Seasons!

to let God work in our lives, all the while praying and seeking His will, He will prepare us for the seasonal changes that will come our way. God begins to move on our behalf when we align ourselves with what He is doing for us. As the old season passes away and the new one begins, we start to bear fruit. For each season that passes, we start to learn and receive more wisdom and experience that helps us grow deeper in our faith, and we become more fruitful in our lives. When we start preparing for the season changes from spring to summer and fall to winter, whether it's work around the house, or getting the property ready for the changing seasons, especially winter, we also need to prepare ourselves spiritually for what lies ahead. We should start looking forward to what the Lord desires in our lives; we need to get ready for all the changes that will come. When Jesus was upset, He said in Luke 12:56, "Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?" Jesus is referring to everyone's ability to see and know when the natural seasons are changing, but they can't see when the spiritual are changing. It is a must that we start looking forward, ahead of the natural things, and start to notice the

Page 5

amazing plan that God has laid out ahead of us. God has a better plan than we could ever come up with; all we have to do is understand what it is by living in His will today. It doesn't matter what season we may be in right now, God wants us to embrace Him. He wants us to totally trust Him, believing that He will produce the greatest possible harvest of His fruits that will enrich our lives. This will happen in His perfect timing. As we continue to grow with Jesus, we have a new heart that is united with our new spirit; it is now one with Jesus and is completely unchangeable. Colossians 2:10 says, "And you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power." If we were to stop and check our lives right now, what season would you say you are in; would you be in a dry season? Waiting for something season? Grinding season? A constant test & trials season? Or a spiritual warfare season? The list can be long at times; you could be in a very happy season right now. It can be so difficult to know what season we are in, even more difficult to know how Jesus will work it out for us. Just like all the season change weather wise, our lives have changing season. Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, "He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in

their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end." The first thing to do to prosper is to realize which season you are in. It's always difficult when God is silent to us, especially when we can't hear His voice or feel His presence as we usually do. The Dry Season: God appears to be far away; I have felt those dry seasons, where you talk to Him, pray continually and you don't feel or hear Him at all. We all have gone through this one time or another, and we know how difficult it can be. Why do we go through a dry season? Sometimes it's to teach us things to make us grow spiritually and sometimes it's because we have become lifeless with our prayers that are repetitious, praying with no heart. Sometimes we just need to sit back and evaluate and change our lives. The dry seasons will come upon us when we are not going deep into the word of God and having heart felt prayers. This is what David said about joy in the fellowship of God in a dry season...Psalm 63:1 says, "O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water." Let's start asking ourselves, 'Why are we in a dry season? Is it because we don't spend enough time

September 2020

The Changing Seasons!

reading our Bibles or enough time in prayer, obeying God's holy word and do we worship Him enough?' If the answer is no, then we need to repent of that now and seek God and let Him refresh us everyday. Psalms 23:1-3 says, "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake." The Waiting Season: It doesn't matter what you may be waiting for, it could be a Godly husband or wife, we may want our rough circumstances to change, or waiting on God to fulfill a promise given to you. The waiting season can be so frustrating, this I know. I waited 15 years to finally meet my wife, Donna. For this magazine to start, I waited ten years. I never gave up on His promises, but it did get frustrating at times. As we wait for God to fulfill His promises to us, trust in Him; trust that He is working on what you asked for and trust in His perfect timing for all things coming to you. God is sculpting a new you, He is pruning away all of the things in your life that you do not need for your next season. God is working on you to get you ready for whatever you asked Him for. Let Him work and

trust in Him, no matter how long it takes. Psalms 5:3 says, "My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up." God hears us; stay strong and trust Him. The Busy Season: We all know what this season is like. How many times have we said, 'I don't know where the time has gone; there isn't enough time to do all the things I want to do.' I know I'm in this season right now. We have had a lot of projects this year, here at home and at the cabin, big ones, little ones, but there isn't enough time to finish them all. But that is what the enemy wants in the busy season, where he tries to distract us from worshiping God by making us busy. We can be busy, but we must never put God aside to get things done. We can still read our bibles so that we are filling ourselves with His word, continue to pray nonstop; this keeps the communication open to God and He will direct you and help you prioritize your busy work schedule. Nothing is impossible with God. Matthew 19:26 says, "But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." The Test & Trial Season: For whoever is going through some tough times right now, know that God is right there with you, working everything out

September 2020

for us. This is a hard season to go through. We have all been through this at one time or another; it's also hard to understand why we are going through it. But I assure you that, even though going through a test and trial season is hard, your faith will be strengthened if you trust God as you go through it. Trust Him that He is not only working on it with you, but He is going to see you through to the end of this season and take you to another, so never give up, just pray and read your bibles to help you. Galatians 6:9 says, "And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart." Allow God to do the work that only He can do. He will work for you; just give Him all your burdens. Ask God for the wisdom you need to move forward and allow God to build up your faith so you can get through it. James 1:5 says, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." In this season, we must always seek Jesus and set our eyes and minds on Him, for He is God and He knows all about temptation, suffering and pain and He knows about our weaknesses. 2 Corinthians 4:17-19 says, "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far

The Changing Seasons!

more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal." The Spiritual Warfare Season: If you find yourself in a spiritual warfare season, gird yourselves up to prepare, especially if you are being attacked right now. It is a good indication you're doing things right that satan does not like. The enemy always goes to war against us, and it's because we are Christians, God's children. There isn't anything to fear. Remember the book of Job; all we have to remember is that God is in control of everything. The greatest thing of being children of God is He will always fight for us; He will listen to us; we just have to read His word and pray to Him. He always hears us and takes care of us. Ephesians 6:12 says, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." The Happy Season: Our happy season could be anyone who was just married, as Donna and I were last year. Children bring you some joy, or you find yourself reading and enjoying your bible. This is the fun,

Page 7

happy season, but we all still have work to do here; we must continue to praise the Lord; we must not stop. Just because everything is good, praising Him is something that should always come naturally and do in every season because our souls need to worship Him all the time to be truly close to Him. Sing your song to God. James 5:13 says, "Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms." Remember, these season change just like the natural season do. Stay close to God; worship Him, pray and read your bibles everyday, God Bless.

The secret Joy of a Surrendered Life...

Book by: Laura Story with Leigh McLeroy Written by: Lynne Wood

I

Give Up is the title of a powerful book written by Laura Story. This book is about the secret joy of a surrendered life. Laura Story is a Grammy Award winning singer, songwriter, worship leader and author. But most importantly to Laura, she is a wife to Martin and mother to her four children: Josie, Ben, Griffen and Timothy. Laura and Martin grew up together in South Carolina, fell in love and were married. They had their whole future planned out; they were moving to Atlanta where Martin would go to school to become a Graphic Designer. While there, Laura was going to be a worship leader at the Perimeter Church in Atlanta. They were going to stay for two years, then move back to South Carolina to be closer to their families. Everything was working out perfectly, but God had other plans. Shortly after moving and settling in to their new life, Martin was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He had to have two surgeries that were both successful, but he was left with

disabilities. Martin had to give up his dream of becoming a Graphic Designer; God had other plans. The top neurosurgeon who saved Martin's life lives in Atlanta. After Martin's rehab was finished, their senior pastor moved them into his mother-in-law's suite and helped take care of him. All their friends in the church community were so amazing helping them through all of this, Laura said they were going to stay in Atlanta unless

God moved them on. Laura and Martin have faced several trials so far with Martin's brain tumor, a miscarriage, and also Timothy's birth defect but through it all, God's hand was guiding them. If you're wondering whether it's a good idea to surrender control of your life to God, just think of how well He knows you and how much He loves you. When we surrender our lives to God, we're saying we believe in Him; we have faith in Him. Faith is not believing that God can; it is knowing that He will, and when we choose to surrender to God, we're choosing to believe in Him. A surrendered life is a life of peace. Give God everything; He will take care of it for you. It might not turn out the way you were hoping for, but God knows what's best for you. After all, He created you. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11. NIV

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6

Dear Heavenly Father, I ask You to forgive me; I repent of my sins; I renounce all evil in my life and I surrender my life completely to You. I ask You to cover me with Your cleansing blood of the cross. I thank You for saving me. I ask You to baptize me with Your Holy Spirit to be empowered to walk before You in righteousness so that I can please You well. Let Your Spirit enable me to make significant contributions to other people's lives. Let Your Spirit enable me to live an overcomer's life on earth. Let me be a partaker of heaven. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray,

Amen

How the indwelling of the Holy Spirit changes our Lives

H

owever, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. (John 16:13) Being a follower of Jesus means much more than going to church or trying to live a good life. It means letting the Holy Spirit change you. The Holy Spirit produces a Christ-like character in us. The Lord makes us more and more like Him as we are changed into His glorious image. This process of changing us to be more like Jesus is called sanctification. The Holy Spirit is a gift from God. The Apostle Peter said in Acts 2:38, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Two things are clear here: First, the Holy Spirit is a gift from God; you cannot earn it. Second, in order to receive the gift, we must repent of sin. Real repentance involves a change of direction in our lives; a turning away from the past, a changing of the mind. It is God’s desire that you be transformed and renewed. Romans 12:2 says, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and

perfect will of God.” Colossians 3:9-10 reads, “Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.” You can’t reproduce the character of Jesus on your own or by your own strength. New Year’s resolutions and best intentions won’t do it. Only the Holy Spirit has the power to make the changes God wants to make in our lives. Philippians 2:13 says, “For it

is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” As God transforms you, He wants to help you change your attitudes and emotions, to help you grow what the Bible calls the “fruit of the Spirit.” God’s Holy Spirit produces the fruit. The fruit grows as a result of the Spirit working within us. The power of God, through the Holy Spirit, enables us to overcome our human nature and become like God. However, this miracle requires our willing cooperation

with God. Although God produces the fruit, there are things we can do to help our fruit grow: 1 - We can break up the soil of our hearts, allowing God’s roots to go deep by surrendering to God’s will for our lives. Our old nature sometimes resists God’s Spirit. There may be some fruit you don’t want to grow— even if God says it is healthy 2 - We can water the tree by reading the Bible, God’s Word. We must be ever mindful to “stir up” the gift of the Spirit, which is in us through regularly studying and meditating on God’s Word and through prayer. It is aided by our fasting and going to God humbled and deeply aware of our utter lack of self-sufficiency. Our desire must be to put God’s Word into our lives by taking it seriously and trying to make changes in all areas of our lives—big and small. 3 - We can fertilize the ground by spending quality time with other believers and listening to sound teaching. The bitterness and envy that dominate the minds of many people in today’s world can lead one away from sound-mindedness. They are totally contrary to godly wisdom. An honest and forgiving heart is the kind of place where God’s Spirit thrives. We need to surround ourselves with Christ-minded people.

September 2020

Bible Study...

4 - We can kill pests that would damage the fruit by fighting sin and resisting the devil. Violence and lust permeate much of our entertainment, whether it be in music or movies. What we feed our minds is extremely important. People who would never dream of willfully ingesting unclean meat into their stomachs sometimes fill their minds with spiritual uncleanness by the hour. The Apostle Paul tells us that we should fill our minds with what is true, lovely, pure and honorable. These things bring out the best in us. 5 - We can allow God to prune

His Grace Magazine!

John 16:13

our attitudes and behaviors that prevent healthy fruit from growing. The Holy Spirit is the means by which our old nature and attitude undergoes a transformation. It tunes us into God’s “wavelength” and we become receptive to Him. When we “tune in” God, we are enabled to begin “tuning out” Satan. 6 - We can ask God to fill us with his Spirit so that as we go through life, we can grow closer to him—to be “filled with the Spirit.” The world in which we live can be a pretty frightening place. Fears and anxieties control the lives of many people.

Page 11

These emotions can paralyze a person. This sort of fear is not the result of God’s Spirit. We are still ourselves with our weaknesses and fears, but we are now “plugged in” to the power source of the entire universe. The Holy Spirit is also a source of sound-mindedness. The Holy Spirit manifested in us will help us be more balanced and sound in our thinking. One who is seeking to live by every word of God will become increasingly able to apply the principles of sound judgment and conduct found throughout the Bible through the effort and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Glen Wesley The Sunday that changed his life ... A NHL veteran, Glen Wesley, played 20 seasons as a defenseman. Glen played junior hockey for the Portland Winter Hawks, where he had 224 points in 202 games in over 3 seasons. Glen was drafted in the first round, number three overall, by the Boston Bruins in 1987, where he was named on the All Rookie team. Glen played a total of seven seasons with the Bruins, he was then traded to the Hartford Whalers in 1994. Glen remained in Hartford for the organization until they moved the Hartford Whalers to Carolina in 1997 and they became the Carolina Hurricanes. Glen played for the Hurricaneas for 13 seasons. At the end of the 2003 season at the trade deadline, Glen was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs. This was done in hopes of both teams making t h e playoffs. G l e n o n l y played seven games with the Maple Leafs, which stopped his consecutive games streak. At the end of the 2003 season, Glen signed with the Carolina Hurricanes as a free agent. At the end of the 2008 season, he decided to retire

after 20 seasons, Glen stayed with the Hurricane organization as a Director of Defensemen Development. Glen had 128 goals and 409 assists for 537 points. In 2006, he won a Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes against the Edmonton Oilers, his childhood favorite team. He also played in the All Star game in 1989. Glen played in four Stanley Cup Finals (winning in 2006), a World Cup Championship in 1996, Canada Cup in 1991 and World Junior Championship in 1987. In 2009, the Hurricane organization retired Glen's # 2 jersey to honor him for his contributions on helping his team and the community. When Glen retired, he was ranked 6th in career game by a defenseman. Both Glen and his wife are Christians; they both take their faith very seriously. Barb was raised in a Christian home, but later she fell away from her faith in the Lord. But after Barb lost her mom to cancer, she decided to recommit her life to Jesus. At this point, she became the spiritual leader of the household in her family. After awhile, Glen saw the changes in Barb and noticed the changes she made which made him take a look at his own life and started to think of his own eternal life. During that time, while Glen was playing in Hartford and his family was living in Western Canada, Glen had terrible news from home. He was told his dad had ALS, also know as Lou Gehrig's disease. Not long after his diagnosis, Glen's dad passed away that summer. That's

when Glen started to reflect on his life. He then decided to start attending church in Hartford, where Glen met the youth pastor. They both clicked right away and the pastor started asking Glen some questions. He knew there was a emptyness in his life, and he also knew he couldn't continue the way he was living his life without Jesus. One Sunday morning in the fall, his pastor asked the congregation that if anyone wanted a relationship with Jesus, to come forward. Glen

went forward and gave his life to Jesus that morning. Glen then knew that Jesus paid the price for all of our sins on the cross, where He died and rose three days later and defeated death for all of us. At that point, Glen felt a huge burden fall off him. Glen is also involved with the organization Hockey Ministries International, where he helps run the summer hockey camp in Raleigh, North Carolina. It's a good combination of hockey in a Christian atmosphere.

He Lives in Us

September 2020

When we become a believer, Jesus comes into our heart; The Spirit of Truth brings wisdom, understanding and knowledge of God. The Holy Spirit will live inside us, and take us on a journey through our daily Christian life of knowing God more intimately. We will become empowered; we will prophesy and dream dreams; We will see and understand visions; He pours out His Spirit on me. The Comforter will be with us whom the world cannot receive; It does not see Him or know Him, but shows us the life we should live. The Helper will teach us all things and show us of things to come; As evidence of the infilling, He will mediate through us in tongues. He comforts and consoles us in our times of great distress, and helps in life's situations; a gift given to those who ask. He will lead and guide us in learning to live victoriously in God's kingdom. We are clothed with a higher power to grow into a mature Christian. The Holy Spirit will help and enable us to share our testimony; He will fill us with needed boldness and will fulfill our awesome destiny.

(Acts 4:31)

“And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

Flywheel “Have you reached your Turning Point?

T

his movie was made back in 2003; it was the Kendrick brothers first movie. They had a low budget of $20,000 and they made a really good movie despite the budget. They now have six movies, their acting has improved with each movie, but even though you can see the difference from this movie to their sixth movie called "Overcomer", "Flywheel" still a good movie. This movie not only grips its viewers, but it also enterains you. It's funny as well as uplifting. Jay Austin is a greedy, lying owner of a used car dealership who overcharges his customers. Jay taught his employees to do the same by setting a bad example.

He would tithe to the church by handing them an empty envelope. Jay also owes the bank a lot of money. Jay's wife, Judy, continually prays for him and witnesses for him, but Jay is so rude to her. He doesn't notice his son, Todd, but still thinks he is a good father and husband because he supplies them with money. Jay even overcharged and lied to his pastor from his church when he was looking at a car for his daughter. After his pastor buys the car, he asks Jay if he can pray for him. He prayed for God to treat Jay as well as Jay treated him. The pastor prayed an innocent prayer, because he thought he got a great deal. Unfortunately for Jay, who now realizes the trouble he is in. It makes him start thinking and it will bring him down to his knees. After hurting his wife, Judy, he realizes he needs to change. Jay gives his life to Jesus. He asks to talk with Judy, but she asks if he is dying, but Jay said, no, he isn't dying. He then appologizes to her and tells her he gave his life to Jesus and was making changes in his life. Jay goes to work and changes his prices to honest prices.

Then two of his salesmen quit and walks out in anger, because now they actually have to work instead of cheating and lying to customers to make their money. Jay decides to pay back all of his customers that he cheated and lied to all the money he owed them. Then a guy comes in looking for a job at mininum wage for the summer, so Jay decides to hire him. But this guy is an undercover reporter for the news station and finds out that Jay is one of the honest dealers out there. Later, another TV station reporter comes in and asks for an interview. Jays says, 'Yes,' but this time the reporter traps him with one of his former employees that told of the old lying, cheating side of Jay. But God is there for Jay and had another plan and helped Jay with his customers coming forward to defend him. "Flywheel" is a captivating movie, despite having a low budget. Alex Kendrick does a great jon in acting as Jay Austin; he also does a great job of directing this movie. The rest of the cast also did a good job, considering they have never acted before. The movie is also well written, grabs the attention of the viewers and keeps everyone wondering what is about to happen next. The truly fantastic part is that it was produced by their church. Flywheel: is available on Blue ray and DVD.
