he armor that a Roman soldier wore when he went into battle:
1. The Helmet: It protected the soldier’s head in battle from the enemy’s weapons, such as swords, rocks and other weapons used against him. 2. The Breastplate: It protected the soldier’s chest, heart and mid section. 3. Military Belt: He wore this around his waist; it was made to carry a dagger and his sword. 4. Military Footwear: The sandals or boots were strong; made of iron for miles of marching. They also had spikes on the bottom of the sandal so he could stand his ground in battle. 5. The Shield: This gave the soldier protection against spears and arrows in battle. 6. The Sword: The soldier’s sword was short; this was an advantage to the soldier when he was in close combat. As much as all this equipment helped the soldier in battle,
Resisting Temptation
our heavenly Father will help us in battle with the devil. As Paul tells us, "Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." (Ephesians 6:11). We are all tempted by the devil with things that will drag us down, as he knows our weakest points and in that area, he will relentlessly attack us over and over again. By learning from Ephesians, we can discover how to resist the devil and his schemes by putting on the whole armor of God every day. When it comes to temptation, we need to know that it’s the enemy that is attacking and we need to flee the temptation. Fleeing means we run the other way with no hesitation or compromise. Just as scripture says, "Flee from sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body." (1 Corinthians 6:18). Our bodies are not our own; they were paid for with a great price, as they are God's holy temple. While temptation is not a sin, acting on the temptation is, when we go outside of God's boundaries. When we don't flee the temptation, the consequences will soon follow. Temptations are all around us in this broken world. It's hard to escape it but with Jesus in our lives, we can flee from all of it.
The devil knows how to seduce us with temptations, whether it is sexual sin, anger, jealousy, covetousness, laziness, pride, worry, etc. It's so important to know the difference between temptation and sin. If you’re not careful, temptation can lead to sin; you need to know the difference and flee. However, Jesus never sinned and yet experienced every temptation we go through, "For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin." (Hebrews 4:15). Therefore, one of the best ways to battle sin is to resist any temptation. Here are seven ways to resist temptation:
1. Pray as Jesus taught. "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one." (Matthew 6:13). When the disciples kept falling asleep, Jesus was praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus said to them, "Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." (Matthew 26:41). Without God, we have no hope of resisting temptation. This is why we must always pray a heartfelt continuous prayer. Jesus taught us how to pray in the Lord's Prayer, and God will “lead us not into

temptation." Praying with other believers is also a good way to help you keep the practice of praying. 2. Know Yourself Well. In the Christian life, we have a few enemies; one is our old corrupt nature that sometimes lingers in us and can still rise up if we are not careful (Romans 7:21-23; Ephesians 4:22). Life experiences are all factors that can cause us to fall to certain temptations. 3. Learn to recognize temptation. The trouble with temptation is that we give in because of the pleasure it gives us. By fulfilling our desires, it gives us something that seems so good. “But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full- grown, brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.” (James 1:14-16). We don't recognize temptation at first but before we know it, it could already be leading to sin. We can fix this by learning to recognize temptation when we are confronted with it. We can also prevent this from happening by reading our Bible and filling ourselves with good things that God speaks in His word. 1 Timothy 6:11 says: "But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith,

Resisting Temptation
love, patience, gentleness." We need to continuously read His word so we can understand and get better at realizing when we are being tempted. 4. Take Preventative Action. If certain situations tempt you (i.e. watching certain movies, going to bars, visiting certain sites on the internet, etc.), then you need to take action to stay away from these things and flee from them. It's just better to flee; run away from all the things in life that temp us. 5. Quote Scripture to Yourself. When Jesus was tempted by the devil in the desert, the devil started quoting the Bible to Jesus hoping to trick Him. Jesus, in turn, quoted scripture showing the devil's twisted use of God's scripture (Matthew 4:5-7). God's word is called the "sword of the Spirit" by Paul (Ephesians 6:17). We can all use these scriptures to help us battle temptation. 6. Get Lots of Rest. We are so vulnerable to temptation when we are tired. We are at our weakest when we don't get much sleep and the devil is right there to take advantage of it. "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." (1 Peter 5:8). Rest is also important with our walk with God; it keeps us motivated, strong in His word and helps us spiritually. We
must pay attention when we are tired, asking Jesus to help us to resist the devil’s temptations. 7. Remember there is always a way to escape. God always provides and gives us a way out of temptation. "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it." (1 Corinthians 10:13). He also helps us by being our strength. God has said, "Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5, Josh 1:5). What a wonderful feeling it is to a Christian who loves the Lord, just to know that whatever we go through in this life, we know that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is always right there beside us in all of it, to help us resist and flee from temptation. March is the month of Lent; it begins on March 6th and it concludes on April 20th, the Saturday preceding Easter Sunday. The purpose of Lent is for the preparation of the believer for Easter through prayer, repentance of sins and self-denial.

Movie in Review... His Grace, March 2019
Indivisible “Emotionally Powerful
his movie is based on a true story of a US army Chaplain, Darren Turner, and his family. The movie follows the time Chaplain Turner spent in Iraq; a 15-month tour and all the struggles he and his family faces when he returns home. A changed and often struggling man through this movie, the hope that is found only in Jesus Christ is so amazing. Indivisible comes across as a very real story, filled with raw emotions and such realistic struggles. It is a valuable insight into the trials of many military families and what they go through, especially those facing or coming back from deployment. The movie is relatable for all marriages,
dealing with pressures on marriage and many couples will be so encouraged by the theme of fighting for their marriages. All of the changes that Jesus Christ brings into our lives are clearly shown in the characters, and the importance of the family is upheld. One of the major themes of the movie is how can there be a good God with all of the suffering that people face daily? Some characters, which include the Chaplain, struggle to answer this very question, as they all face the horrors of war in a world that is full of sin. As the characters struggle daily with this question, the goodness of God, no matter what the circumstances, is upheld and there's hope and encouragement given to trust God, even when we can't understand His ways. When Chaplain Turner arrives home to his wife and children, he brings his battle war scars home with him. He struggles with all the questions about death and suffering, which ministries are all too familiar with. Darren is also trying to deal with the images of war in his mind that replays over and over again. The movie producers decided to show all of the strong emotions
that suffering can produce, rather than ignoring them. The movie portrays the sufferings in a very real way that many can relate to in their own circumstances. This movie is rated PG-13 because of some war scenes that may be too intense or disturbing for younger viewers. The violence in Iraq is mild in the movie and nothing graphic is shown. When Chaplain Turner returns home, his temper flares at times, as he and his wife shout at each another. Indivisible is an uplifting movie to watch. It shows all of the struggles that military personnel and their families face during and after their deployment. The characters in the movie are shown as imperfect people, not "perfect" Christians with all of the answers, as they cling to hope and their faith in God to get them through their struggles. Faith can often come with a little bit of doubt. Towards the end of the movie, Chaplain Rogers tells Turner that he often wonders if we can't have faith with a little bit of doubt. As we all struggle at times, we can take comfort in God's word to us in all of these circumstances. Indivisible will spark some conversations about our good God, even in the face of suffering and how we all can help support military families, especially after our soldiers come home. Indivisible: is available on Blue ray and DVD now.

Victorious over Sin!
Once baptized by John the Baptist, Jesus was led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit to prepare Him for the ministry that lay before Him For forty days Jesus didn’t eat The devil’s plan was to defeat; Tempted Him to turn stone to bread, Jesus responded, “We live by every word of God.” The devil showed Jesus the kingdoms of the world And said, “Worship me, and all will be Yours” “Get behind me, Satan!” Jesus said, “For it is written, worship only the Lord your God.” Satan then brought Him to Jerusalem And said, “Throw Yourself down, for it is written: His angels will have charge over You, And in their hands, they shall keep You.” For the third and last time, Jesus resisted And said, “God is to be trusted and not tested.” The prince of this world has no power over Jesus He is without sin and that makes Him victorious! CD in Review... His Grace, March 2019
hris Tomlin's new CD, Holy Roar, doesn't disappoint at all. The songs are the same, familiar style that Chris has become known for. They are easy to sing along with and have a wonderful way of praising God. This CD is telling us all to come out of our houses, out of our cars, take off our headphones, just stop what you are doing to join in and worship together. He is calling us all to give a shout… a "Holy Roar" … to God. Chris Tomlin hopes churchgoers will experience all of the wonders and freedom of worshiping our amazing loving God. As I listen to this album, I really like the songs, "Holy Roar", "Nobody Loves Me Like You", "Resurrection Power", and "How Sweet It Is". All of these fun worship songs are so easy to sing along to. "I Stand In Awe" with Nicole Serrano is another beautiful song; her voice is smooth and stunning and her sound brings so much to the song. I really like the lyrics to the song, "Is He Worthy?", as it is different from most Christian songs. Instead of saying that God is worthy, it asks the question about God, whether He is worthy. As the background singers answer all of the questions by saying, “Yes”, and by saying the world is so broken, “Yes”, all the shadows are deepening, all of creation is

by launching his very own imprint label, Bowyer & Bow, in Partnership with Capital Christian Music Group. I personally really like what Holy Roar offers … a nice mix of slow songs and a few upbeat songs that will make you stand up on your feet, raise your hands up in the air and start praising the Lord. This is just a review of some amazing praise-filled songs that you will hear on the new Holy Roar album. There are so many more amazing songs on this album, so many powerful words in the songs that scream out to God, worshiping Him, giving Him all the praise and glory that God deserves. This is what Holy Roar is all about.

Resisting Temptation
Page 7
Dear Heavenly Father, I ask for Your strength and help to resist ungodly temptations, knowing that to do so is not glorifying You and it does me nothing but emotional and spiritual harm. Help me to take every tempting thought captive and hand it over to You. Help me in my weakness to know You as my Strength. Help me in my foolishness to know You as my Wisdom. Help me, I pray, to resist all forms of temptation. Give me the strength to say 'no' and walk away. Deliver me, Lord, from habits that are entrapping and enslaving me. Replace the thoughts that tempt and tease with those that turn my focus on You. Help me in all things to say, "Thy Will, not mine, be done" in Jesus name I pray.
Amen

Kind is the New Classy
The Power of Living Graciously...
By: Candace Cameron Bure
C
andace Cameron Bure is best known for her TV role as DJ Tanner in "Full House". She’s also known for being one of the former co-hosts of ABC's "The View"; although many may not know that she is a mother of three, a producer, a jewelry designer and also a bestselling author. You know what it's like to feel all of this pressure on every side; our lives can be hectic. The book description asks how can we stay true to the person God created us to be in the face of everything we have been given? Also, how can we stand with grace? The classy confidence of Candace you know and love, whether she is … on the set of Full House or Fuller House, The View, or her Hallmark and Christian movies, being an inspirational speaker or Dancing with the Stars 18th finalist … it is no act. But it hasn't come easy for her. She learned to stay true to herself with grace and that has been one of the biggest fights of Candace's faith. The secret that she has learned is to be kind. It's unexpected, even counter cultural but ultimately wins the day. In the book, Kind is the New Classy, Candace tells us her thought patterns and practices that shows how important God is
in her life. This has empowered her to stay centered in who she is while practicing graciousness towards others. Whether you’re going through hard life choices, have lots of questions of a calling or a career move, a relationship, or personal goals, Candace's book will show you how to: • Keep your cool under pressure • Respond to criticism with grace • Stay grounded yet go places in life • Stay true to who you are despite the expectations of others • Stay centered in what ultimately matters the most In this book, Candace teaches women how to stand up for their Christian values in this culture that doesn't agree with Christian biblical lifestyle.
She emphasizes character traits that she believes makes a "Christian truly remarkable"… love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Purpose is a recurring theme throughout her book. Candace talks about her decision to place acting on hold to raise her children and then return to her acting career when her children were grown. This book shows us what it's like to work in the entertainment industry as an unashamed Christian. Candace also shares how she received support from unexpected places and also reopens the conversation about her battle with bulimia from previous books. Candace's self-help, semi -autobiography approach with this book will appeal to many readers. Candace is both outspoken and passionate about her family and her faith. She didn't grow up in a Christian home; her mom believed but her dad didn't and he didn't want to hear about God in his house but said that if they wanted to pursue it when they grew up, they could, which she did and became a Christian while working on the her TV show "Full House." She continues to live in Los Angeles area with her husband and her three children.

with special guests Tauren Wells, Pat Barrett, Nicole Serrano and Chris's Pastor, Darren Whitehead. Tickets for the tour are on sale now. There is one Canadian stop on the Holy Roar Tour: March 9: Abbotsford, BC Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.
C
hris Tomlin is a Texas born, Grammy winning singer/songwriter. He is one of the most successful Christian touring performers and he is launching his 2019 spring tour called the Holy Roar Tour in March. The tour kicks off in Kent, Washington on March 7th at the ShoWare Arena
The Holy Roar Tour will be an amazing experience of worship. It will be so much more than just another night of songs ‌ it will be an encounter with the presence of our living God. This tour should light a fire in the hearts of the people at the concerts. This tour and message will have a lasting impact on the people for a long time after the concert ends. "HOLY ROAR" is the freedom to experience the wonder of worship; to be able to see the church come
together in one place of song, lifting up their hands and voices to God; to feel His very presence in the concert with every song that is played, pouring out praises from their hearts to Him. It is hearing everyone's voices come together ‌ a beautiful way to worship. This sounds like a fun tour.

Psalm 30:
The Blessedness of Answered Prayer A Psalm. A Song at the dedication of the house of David
I will extol You, O Lord, for You have lifted me up, And have not let my foes rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried out to You, And You healed me. O Lord, You brought my soul up from the grave; You have kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His, And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. Now in my prosperity I said, “I shall never be moved. Lord, by Your favor You have made my mountain stand strong; You hid Your face, and I was troubled. I cried out to You, O Lord; And to the Lord I made supplication: "What profit is there in my blood, When I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your truth? Hear, O Lord, and have mercy on me; Lord, be my helper!" You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks

Psalm 31:
The Lord a Fortress in Adversity To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David
In You, O Lord, I put my trust; Let me never be ashamed; Deliver me in Your righteousness. Bow down Your ear to me, Deliver me speedily; Be my rock of refuge, A fortress of defense to save me. For You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for Your name's sake, Lead me and guide me. Pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me, For You are my strength. Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth. I have hated those who regard useless idols; But I trust in the Lord. I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy, For You have considered my trouble; You have known my soul in adversities, And have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a wide place. Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am in trouble; My eye wastes away with grief, Yes, my soul and my body! For my life is spent with grief, And my years with sighing; My strength fails because of my iniquity, And my bones waste away. I am a reproach among all my enemies, But especially among my neighbors, And am repulsive to my

acquaintances; Those who see me outside flee from me. I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel. For I hear the slander of many; Fear is on every side; While they take counsel together against me, They scheme to take away my life. But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord; I say, "You are my God." My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies, And from those who persecute me. Make Your face shine upon Your servant; Save me for Your mercies' sake. Do not let me be ashamed, O Lord, for I have called upon You; Let the wicked be ashamed; Let them be silent in the grave. Let the lying lips be put to silence, Which speak insolent things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous. Oh, how great is Your goodness, Which You have laid up for those who fear You, Which You have prepared for those who trust in You In the presence of the sons of men! You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence From the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion From the strife of tongues. Blessed be the Lord, For He has shown me His marvelous kindness in a strong city! For I said in my haste, "I am cut off from before Your eyes"; Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications When I cried out to You.

Oh, love the Lord, all you His saints! For the Lord preserves the faithful, And fully repays the proud person. Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the Lord.
Psalm 32:
The Joy of Forgiveness A Psalm of David. A Contemplation.
Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit. When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all the day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord," And You forgave the iniquity of my sin.
Selah
For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him. You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah
Psalms
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. Do not be like the horse or like the mule, which have no understanding, which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you. Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart!
Psalm 33:
The Sovereignty of the Lord in Creation and History Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful. Praise the Lord with the harp; Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings. Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. For the word of the Lord is right, And all His work is done in truth. He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap. He lays up the deep in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. The Lord brings the counsel
of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance. The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. From the place of His dwelling He looks On all the inhabitants of the earth; He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works. No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. A horse is a vain hope for safety; Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength. Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him. On those who hope in His mercy, To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, Just as we hope in You.

Your Journey to God
Celia Deegan's Story "Help me." These two words burst out of the desperate heart of a four year old child and became the most powerful prayer I ever prayed. A fog has claimed most of the details surrounding the event itself, but certain things have remained perfectly clear involving my first real encounter with the presence of God. I imagined nothing. The presence I felt that night is the same now and as real to me today at age 51 as it was 47 years ago. Mine was a bad childhood from the very start. I was unplanned and unwanted pregnancy and my mother's opinion of me didn't change the day I was born. What I recall most about the first four years of my life is mostly just a complete absence of love and the acute awareness that my mother hated me. I was afraid of her. I was afraid to talk to her and I was most certainly afraid of the way she talked to me. I spent most of my time wishing that it was bedtime. At least there alone in the darkness and under my blankets, I felt safe. And sometimes, bedtime came earlier than usual and without supper. I never complained. A four year old heart can carry the heavy weight of pain without complaining as a learned coping mechanism, but there were times when I couldn't hold back the tears nor deny the desperation of living
in a cold climate of hostility. I am sure that we are born with the ability to survive anything and I am also sure that the awareness of being hated is absolutely heartbreaking for any child. I'm not sure that it was an actual panic attack but I am sure of one particular night when the ache inside my chest left me gasping for breath. I felt like I was going in and out of consciousness. The little I knew about life at that point left me with the impression that it was nothing I wanted to pursue. This may have been the closest I ever really came to giving up completely before the panic struck. Somewhere in there, as I struggled to breathe, I coughed out two simple words: "Help me..." I choked and I trembled and my little fists were tightly clenched around my blankets. Suddenly, in that moment, an incomprehensible presence of peace and love began to surround me. I began to breathe. The tears stopped. My heart rate slowed as a sweet sense of relaxation came over me. I began to smile, which is something I don't ever remember doing a lot of before that moment. I felt a profound sense of comfort and warmth wash over me and it was then that I felt His presence right there in that room with me. An incredible sense of joy filled my heart. I couldn't see Him, but I knew He was there. And I was in a total state of awe. I didn't know

who He was but I knew He was real. I knew He loved me and I knew that I loved Him. This was my first real taste of true love, in its purest form. And in that moment, I knew that I would always be okay because something in that Divine Presence made me feel certain that I would never lose contact with what I encountered that night. And I never have, not even once, in all these years. In the days, weeks, months and years that followed, despite the storms that would come, I became a joyful child who rarely lost her smile. I'm not sure how it is even possible that a four year old could know in her innermost being that she had come to know and experience her Heavenly Father God, but I just knew. His ways are not our ways and the God I serve is able to open the eyes and the heart of a child to His presence. Of course He can, He's God! It no longer mattered who hated me because I had been touched with a love so incredibly Divine that no human love could ever compare to that. He became my purpose for living as I slowly came into the awareness of God, the Bible, the Church, other believers, etc. The night I met Him left me with an insatiable hunger to know more, to pursue Him for the rest of my life and to seek out the hurting and the broken with the message of God's love.

The day stood out for John because of the love and joy that Jane and Steve expressed for each other, and for everyone involved. He said the couple's personalities shone through in every detail of the wedding day.
