H Heritage awareness is a crucial part of any heritage c conservation and management. The creation of awareness iis time consuming and it requires commitment and local support. It is often the most recognizable component of a heritage management. One of the effective ways to build and maintain respect for heritage is through a s election of activities that raise public awareness and increase participation of the local community. The success of heritage conservation initiatives is achieved through support of people and authorities.

PROJECT INTRODUCTION P

10

The main aim is to conserve the existing fort remains and createan awareness centre that would contribute to its conservation. “India is my country, I love my country & I am proud of its rich & Varied heritage… I pledge my devotion to my country…" Remember the national pledge we pledged in school every morning? For almost 10 years, every morning we promised devotion to our country through this pledge. We feel proud of our country, of our democracy, of the diversity in India. Do we really follow our constitution? Do we keep the promise we made to our country? Think again… Do we really take pride in our heritage? Then why is it called as GOVERNMENT PROPERTY? Why can’t it be taken care of as OUR PROPERTY?

7

Let’s contribute our effort for OUR NATION.

AIM OF THE RESEARCH To re-use heritage structure and make every citizen take pride in their past.

DESIGN STRATEGIES The various fort atrractions have to be easily accessible from the proposed halts. The spaces should be easily accessible by foot to save time. This would help tourist to explore the plcae without any difficulty. The aim is to create a promenade than provide wider roads. Creating walkways help tourist traverse the spaces. Trees planted along the promenade would act as a natural shading as well as increase green cover.

The aim is to promote pedestrian walkways and reduce vehicular traffic.

The proposed built form must have visual connectivity with the fort precinct. Thus, it would fulfil the main aim of historical awareness through it.

In order to build the proposed built form it is necessary to restore the existing ruins. The proposed structure has an identical form but different function than the existing structure. Similar materials would used to built the new structure.

Interaction between the localites and the tourist is one of the objectives behind this proposal. It would provide the localites a platform to showcase their culture and talent. The factor which can be a prototype for the development of the entire fort should be treated important.

The 2nd most important aim of this project is to increase the interaction between tourist and localities. Various amenities like Toilets, drinking water, cafeteria, can be provided for the tourist which are unavailable at present. Also, changing rooms and rest rooms for can be provided for tourist and government authorities.

satay sticks used to represent pile foundation beneath the structure.

It has two diagrid system -external and internal it is 18 degree west ward lean. “Splash” a sun shading device on south facade it divides the structure the upper half is hotel and lower half is office. The hotel arrival is at the top of the splash on the 18th floor, where visitors discover a panoramic view of Abu Dhabi. The lobby lounge is a double-height space cantilevered beyond the tower diagrid, providing a dramatic arrival for guests. Due to Capital Gate‛s unique shape, the upper half of the tower widens to create an atrium at the hotel‛s guest room floors. The atrium is funnel shaped and appears carved out of the solid form around it, spiralling and leaning along with the tower. Light filters down from the large skylight roof above to create serene environment.

UNIQUE FEATURES

Wood chamfered from square to oval shape

Oval shaped styrofoam to keep equidistance between the floors.

490 foundation piles were driven 20 to 30 meters underground to support the structure and counter stresses. The vertical and horizontal cross-sections of the tower are all unique. There is an asymmetric shape – no two rooms are the same. Every one of the 12,500 panes of glass on the façade is a different size, although each pane is triangular.

COMMUNITY HOUSING ARCHITECTURE DESIGN ( Semester 04 )

PROJECT DISCRIPTION View of a open space outside of the zardosi worker‛s place

The project is to design a house and studio for eight professions including lac bangle making, patwas, pottery, block printing, tailoring, cane weaving, zardosi embroidery and ceramic art. These professions were given due to the fact that they don‛t have proper working and living spaces. Amongst these, 3 professions chosen here were tailoring, zardosi embroidery and lac bangle making.

View of a semi open space outside of the lac bangle makers place

MATER PLANNING CONCEPT Interaction spaces have been created between clusters of all three professions. Nodes act as market and gathering spaces. Such a planning create multipurpose spaces. Gardens and pedestrian pathways separate the clusters thus maintaining the privacy. Gardens act as major gathering spaces.

MASTER PLAN View of a market space inside the facilty center

The clusters have been placed facing the north-south direction to avoid harsh sunlight .The inclination at an angle of 45 degree enhances ventilation in the cluster. Levels created on site would help avoid water logging during rains. Trees act as barrier between clusters and also help reduce pollution caused by the smoke from the kilns of lac bangle makers.
