ramadhan and taqwa “O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al‐Muttaqoon (the pious)” Al‐Baqarah:183 • In this month we will see Muslims from all walks of life submit to the commands and prohibitions of Allah (SWT). Every Muslim will make that extra effort to gain closeness to Allah (SWT). Reciting Quran, standing in Tarawhi, controlling their tongues and controlling their desires. All for the objective of attaining taqwa (closeness to Allah (SWT)). • The taqwa of a believer that forms the basis of a personality forms the basis of a community and furthermore forms the basis of a nation. • The month of ramadhan is a month where the taqwa brings out the noble values of the Sharia, accountability, modesty, sacrifice, charitable sentiments, collective responsibility and moral and spiritual elevation. All these values are displayed over this month. • Contrary to these values are liberal values that promote greed, hoarding, deception individualism, acting purely on desire and moral and spiritual decline. Politician’s expenses, cash for questions, cash for access, Murdoch scandal, lying bank directors, mugging old age pensioners, invading lands for oil contracts and the list goes on. Decadent values that lead oppression and backwardness for the whole
of mankind. As Muslims we must reject these secular values and uphold and promote the sublime values of Islam • The taqwa that is generated in the month of Ramadhan is the very basis of the Islamic Khilafah State that Allah (SWT) and His Messenger (SAW) has obliged us to establish which will produce a society of justice, honesty and security. • We should use this month to become strong in holding on to our Islamic values. We as a community should demonstrate these values to the wider society so the people of this country can see the truth of Islam as it came to elevate humanity from the depth of darkness as Allah (SWT) says in the Qur’an Alif Lam Ra. [This is] a Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that you might bring mankind out of darkness into the light by permission of their Lord – to the path of the Exalted in Might, the Owner of all Praise … (Ibrahim: 1)
