was struck this month while pulling this issue together by the sheer energy and creativity locally. Flicking through the pages of this issue you’ll notice posters from Linlithgow Players (with a chance to win tickets, see page 11!), Linlithgow Amateur Musical Productions, Linlithgow Grange Rotary Club charity event, Linlithgow String Orchestra – and that’s just in Linlithgow this month! There are events from elsewhere in West Lothian too, people working hard to improve things for others or to lift quality of life for the whole area. Autumn is upon us and the nights will be drawing in when the clocks go back at the end of October. There is plenty on though - take a look at the round up of a few new things to try in West Lothian with the kids over the half term break.

LOCAL HISTORY
The Battle of Linlithgow Bridge Underneath the Linlithgow sports centre and surrounding housing lies a battlefield, site of a ancient child custody battle! The 14 year old King James V was held captive in Edinburgh Castle by his stepfather, James Douglas. His mother was based in Stirling Castle and dedicated to freeing her son and returning Scotland to Stewart rule (meaning anti-English, pro-Catholic and proFrench!)
realised that he could not take the bridge without unacceptable losses. Finding a ford upstream he led his men to cross and attempted to force his way into the town of Linlithgow. It was a bold move, attacking uphill and across boggy ground and it nearly worked, but just in time Douglas arrived with 3000 reinforcements from Edinburgh and beat Lennox back across the Avon. The battle quickly became a rout and Lennox surrendered.
This led to the famous Battle of Linlithgow Bridge in September 1526, where Lennox led 12,000 men from Stirling to storm Edinburgh Castle. His route passed through his native Linlithgow and therefore needed to cross the Avon. The bridge at the time was a wooden structure since replaced by many others, down to the 1960s construction used today. The Royal Burgh of Linlithgow and nearby area supplied 2000 men under the command of Lennox’ brother-in-law, the Earl of Arran who had allied himself with Douglas after previous (and afterwards!) fighting to bring Douglas down. Arran sent messages to Lennox begging him not to attack, but to no avail.
The young king James was compelled to attend the battle with a large escort, and he did his best to help, feigning sickness and delaying the soliders accompanying him until their commander threatened him directly. As soon as James heard of the result, he despatched one of his loyal soldiers ahead to assure the safety of his friend the Earl of Lennox. In an event that stayed with James V through his life, Arran’s son murdered Lennox while a disarmed prisoner before James’ protection could arrive. The approximate site of the murder is where the battle memorial stone is today.
With 200 men and the artillery at the brig, Arran placed the rest of his force on the hill overlooking the Polmont and Torphichen roads. On the morning of 4th September 1526, the Lennox army appeared at Whitecross. Arran had made the most of a highly defensible position and Lennox
When James was 16 years old he managed to escape his stepfather on his own, and took up the crown of Scotland. For lots of information see the Battle of Linlithgow Bridge Society’s website http://www.bolb.org.uk/
Located beside the road as you approach Xcite Linlithgow, the Lennox Cairn was erected in the 1990s to commemorate the battle and the murdered Earl of Lennox. There was an original cairn raised at the time of the murder but it has long since disappeared. The garden around the cairn contain plants from badges that appeared on soldiers’ coats as well as in heraldic devices of the main combatants of Linlithgow Bridge/ The red roses appear in the Lennox coat of arms. Two tickets to Linlithgow Players’ October “Plays & Wine” After their sell-out performances of The Weir in May, the Linlithgow Players return to the stage with their ever popular “Plays and Wine” evening this October (14th and 15th) at Linlithgow Primary School.
the workmen meet to discuss, rehearse and perform their play chosen by Duke Theseus as entertainment following his marriage. Anyone familiar with this play will know just how funny they are.
The Players present an eclectic mix of short plays and sketches to an audience free to feast on wine & cheese during the evening. Full details of the programme are still being finalised but our two main attractions will be Act One of the comedy Teechers (yes that is the correct spelling Mrs Jarvis!) and selected scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Tickets, costing £12, are available online (see www.linlithgowplayers.org.uk) and from Far From the Madding Crowd. For the first time tables of ten can be reserved online. Although any unsold tickets will be available on the door, numbers are restricted to 90 each evening, so book early to avoid disappointment.
Teechers was written by the award winning playwright John Godber, the second most performed living playwright in the UK today. Fast moving and inventive, it tells the hilarious story of Gail, Hobby and Salty, three students who, through their own end of term play, relate the experiences of an idealistic new teacher in his first days at a local comprehensive school. Whether you are a teacher, a pupil now, or were a pupil then, you will recognise these characters from your own school: the lazy, useless teacher, the teacher you fancied, the teacher who terrified you, the “cool” teacher, the school clype, the first girl to wear a bra, the school bully, the grumpy janitor and many others. Teechers will make you laugh and reminisce in equal measure. A Midsummer Night’s Dream was written by the little-known playwright William Shakespeare. This year, the 400th anniversary of his death, we felt it would be fitting to pay our respect to the great man so have chosen scenes in which

Weather-proof & intruder-proof homes The nights are drawing in and the temperature is dropping… it’s that time of year when you start to think about how weather-proof – and intruder-proof – your home is. You’ll find all you need from West Lothian-based suppliers to keep your home safe, snug and good-looking this season. Cost-effective aluminium windows and uPVC come in a range of finishes which simulate wood – and they need very little maintenance during their lifetime. Aluminium is stronger than uPVC which means thinner frames and more glass - perfect for a wide range of homes including bespoke, contemporary properties. UPVC is perfect if you’re on a tight budget. It’s cheaper than alternative materials but with no compromise on quality. They come in all styles including sash & case, tilt & turn and casement. Like aluminium and hardwood, uPVC windows are very thermally efficient.

When choosing a new front door make sure that security is at the top of your checklist. Some uPVC or composite doors are reinforced with steel or aluminium - such as the ones fitted by the UPVC Door Shop in Blackburn and Andrew James in Blackburn. Bi-fold patio doors have become popular in recent years as they fold away completely letting more light into your home. Choose products which hold the police approved, ‘Secured by Design’ status and have multipoint locking systems for added security.
1
If you don’t need new windows or doors but simply want to upgrade your locks make sure that any locks you have fitted are British Standard approved, which is a must for many insurance companies. Take advice from a local locksmith, who besides fitting locks and window locks to existing installations, are usually happy to do a security review on your home and let you know where the weak spots may be.

The top 5 things burglars love According to research from BBC TV Show, Crimewatch, these are five of the top things burglars love: Spare keys - Thousands of burglaries are committed each year using poorly hidden spare keys. The most common places including under a plant pot, a bin, rock or stone and doormat. Seasoned burglars are familiar with all of these hiding spots, so it’s better to leave any extra keys with a trusted neighbour or friend. Patio doors and ground floor windows They are easier entry points of the home to access. For patio doors, make sure you have secure glazing and locking systems, and for windows, ensure all are fitted with at least one appropriate lock and are closed when you leave the home.
quietly as possible so they’ll target smaller more expensive objects which are easy to grab. Keep all cash, jewellery and electronics secured away in a home safe bolted to the floor or wall. Good getaways and hideouts - Burglars target areas where they can hide and remain undetected. Limit hiding places around your property by trimming any bushes and hedges, installing security lighting, and putting away any tools or garden furniture that could aid a break-in. Absent-minded residents - Keep doors and windows locked and keys away from the front door. Don’t assume that because you’re in the home a burglar won’t try and access it. Many thieves will go for occupied homes at night knowing that they contain wallets and phones.
Small and expensive items - Burglars want to be in and out of a property as quickly and

“OPEN HOUSE” By Craig Turpie, Turpie & Co.
The keys to selling any property are price, location and exposure. You can’t change the location of your property, and the market determines the price. However, an Estate Agent can make significant inroads into how powerfully your property is exposed to the market. One of the most effective methods is the “open house”. This is where the property is advertised as being open for anyone who wishes to view it at a certain time, usually during a weekend. Very common abroad, the open house is rapidly gaining popularity in the UK, and for good reason. Firstly, one of the best sources of qualified buyers is via the neighbours. Everybody knows someone who is selling and people tend to buy in an area which is close to their existing network of friends and acquaintances. This is known as sociodemographic mirroring. When a property goes on show, it is marketed intensely in the neighbourhood so that every neighbour is aware that the property is for sale. If they know anyone who is buying, they are highly likely to invite them round to see the property, or at least look at it on their behalf. From the seller’s perspective, having an open house can concentrate the viewings around a fixed time and previous clients have commented that they liked the balance of agent accompanied viewings and promotional open viewing weekends forming part of their sales campaign.
Because of this, we find that more people register their interest during an open house than they would through the usual advertising channels.
Open house days tend to be very relaxed, and they create an environment where buyers do not feel in any way under pressure, but can take their time to consider a property’s merits.
As a “celebration” of a property, an open house can promote intense buyer activity which often prompts a sale, as everybody wants something that everybody else wants!

I read once that cats spend around 16 hours a day napping. Sixteen hours. It has been years now since I’ve been able to get even 8 hours of kip in a row so the concept of spending more than half of the day in blissful slumber fills me with the kind of fitful, slobbering avarice that only rabid dogs can understand. In fact, sleep deprivation itself can be debilitating and frightening – on Quinn’s first week home from the hospital after birth I stayed up all night every night watching him sleep out of worry. By the end of the week I was so deliriously tired I was found sleepwalking, holding an empty bundle of blankets, shouting “Channa! The baby’s head is gone!”. Over the next 18 months we bumbled through the usual trials and mis-steps, like co-sleeping (great when breast-feeding), to moving into a cot bed and nurturing the vain hope that he might stay in the bed at all during the night (he didn’t) – and every step of the way my sleep quota has stayed stubbornly sub-5 hours per night. One person who has never had a problem catching Zs is Penelope. In fact as we made our way last Saturday to Five Sisters Zoo, Penny was deep in the Land of Nod and showing no signs of waking – at least under-3s go free - phew! We arrived and started to inspect the map we had been given, trying to locate the position of the zoo’s famous rescued circus lions. As we did so, Quinn ran past displays of parrots, owls, and spider monkeys in a spirited bid for freedom – he had spotted a slide!
reindeer, tapirs, monkeys, skunks, racoons and of course the long awaited lions; ferocious, strutting, roaring … hang on, they’re all asleep! They were sprawled out very near the boundary fence, possibly in hour 11 of their own 16 hour snoozathon, lying in such human-like attitudes (two were actually spooning at one stage) that they could easily have been humans wearing lion-suits … We took an obligatory selfie or two, me with the rudely-awakened Penny who upon being set down again immediately reprised her snoozing. We rounded off the experience with cheeseburgers, chips and juice which were really tasty and the smell of which actually woke Penny again. As we headed for home I merrily chatted away, recounting the beautiful plumage of the Amazon parrots we saw, and the strange pinkish look of the growing edge of a reindeer’s antler, I wondered at the steady silence from Channa in the passenger seat. Yep you’re way ahead of me. Goodnight all … zzzzzzzzzzzz.
In truth for the first hour of our trip Quinn wasn’t actually aware that there were any animals in the place whatsoever, he spent the whole time in the huge and well-appointed playground, going up and down the slides and trying to work a big-boy swing. Penny, meanwhile, continued to sleep. Enough was enough – we strapped the babies in and hustled deeper into the park to see wolves, KONECT WEST LOTHIAN 16

Cooking with Beer by Anne Pinkerton
October is linked in my mind with the famous Oktober Bier Fest in Munich. I assumed it was a traditional celebration of a new brew after the year’s grain harvest. However I am quite wrong! The Oktoberfest was created to celebrate the marriage of King Ludwig of Bavaria to a Princess Therese in 1810. Since then it has changed from a royal event with horse races into an agricultural and country show and has now morphed in to a fun fair, music, food and beer celebration drawing visitors from all over the world. Beer is at the heart of the festival, starting with a grand procession of carts and horses bringing barrels of the six Reinheitsgebot beers which are tapped by the Mayor of Munich to the sound of gun salutes. Then follows 16 days of fun and drinking. Beer is good in cooking too! In Britain it has long been part of stews, meat pies and bread making. Stout and oysters are a traditional combination and Welsh Rarebit requires beer as the base for the melting cheese. Beer batter (225g plain white flour, 285ml light beer, 3 teaspoons of baking powder) for fish or chicken gives a special crisp finish to these meats when deep fried. Irish Guinness makes the most luscious chocolate cake. A newly published cookbook,“Cooking with Beer” by Mark Dredge, contains more than 150 recipes. There is only room here for a few ideas.
Chocolate Stout cake - 2 50ml Stout/Guinness/ Worthington - 2 50g butter - 7 5g cocoa powder - 2 00g granulated sugar - 2 00g soft brown sugar - 2 large eggs - 1 25ml plain yogurt - 2 teaspoons vanilla extract - 2 75g plain flour - 3 flat teaspoonful’s baking powder - F or the topping, if liked. The cake is fine without it. Method
In a large wide saucepan, heat the stout, add the butter and continue warming till the butter has just melted. Whisk in the cocoa and sugars. Beat the eggs and the yoghurt together with the vanilla. Beat into the liquid. Then sift the flour and baking powder together and mix into the beery chocolate liquid. Pour the batter into the 10 inch, paper lined cake tin. Bake for 45 minutes or an hour, till it is just firm to the touch. Leave till completely cool in the tin. Either make an icing with 250g cream cheese beaten into 125g icing sugar or serve dusted with a little icing sugar or cocoa powder.
Spicy Sausage Casserole -5 00g Chirizo Sausage or any other hard paprika flavoured sausage, thick sliced - 1 small can continental lager or bitter beer. - 2 large onions chopped - 2 yellow peppers de-seeded and sliced - 1 can chopped tomatoes - 1 can cannellini beans -O il for frying -S mall amount of plain flour -P epper, paprika, salt Method
Heat a little oil in a heat proof casserole and fry the onions till just browning. Drain and fry the peppers till they colour a little too. Use the flour to take up the oil left from the vegetables and then make a sauce with the beer. Add all the other ingredients to the pan and bring back to a gentle bubble. Taste and season. Cover with a well-fitting lid and cook, either in the oven or on top of the cooker, slowly for 40 minutes. Serve with plain boiled potatoes or ribbon noodles and a green salad. You can make other stews in this way from any meat you enjoy with vegetables to extend a small quantity of protein. The beer gives a rounded flavour and if used as a marinade on the meat for 2 hours or so before cooking, helps to tenderise it. Beef and venison are lovely with Guinness and lighter meats such as pork or chicken with lagers. Some of the fruit flavoured Belgian beers add even more interest to the final dish.

Charity
Give a Dog a Bone…. and an animal home by Cara McKeown ‘Give a Dog a Bone’ believes everyone should be able to experience pet love. They are prepared for any outcome. For example, if the owner is unable to walk their dog after recovering from an operation, the charity will provide excellent volunteer dog walkers until the owner is well again. They will often try to pair up disabled dogs with disabled people, and will support any terminally ill individuals to find emergency foster care for those who can no longer cope. In other words, the charity is extremely thoughtful and kind, with the best interests of both owner and pet at heart. ‘Give a Dog a Bone…and an animal home’, is a local charity, founded in 2013 by volunteer Louise Russell. The small, unique charity helps over 60s find and adopt a rescue pet pal - a mutual companionship. After all, dog is a man’s best friend. By tackling the loneliness of the elderly, as well as the ever increasing numbers of animal homelessness, this charity and its volunteers are to be commended for their work.
Key volunteer, Lorna Bryce from Bathgate, has been involved with the charity since 2013, and it seems the charity couldn’t run without her. She organises the monthly newsletter, the Twitter account, and increases awareness of the charity. She and Louise Russell are ‘kindred spirits’ and form a fantastic team. Lorna describes the charity as, ‘a new way to tackle the problem of the ever growing number of animals in rescue’. In the two years after ‘Give a Dog a Bone’ was formed, the charity had paired up over 100 animals with owners and they are now all living a brighter future together. By working with rescue organisations across the UK, they can find as many dogs in need of homes as possible. KONECT LINLITHGOW 38
In the interest of raising awareness of ‘Give a Dog a Bone’, the charity will often set up stalls, run swap shops or host events in and around West Lothian. They did this recently in Bathgate and invited another local charity, ‘Contact the Elderly’. They spoke with them about supporting the over 60s and the effect pet companionship can have on someone’s life - it was a great success. If you like the principles of ‘Give a Dog a Bone’, and would like to get involved, visit the website www.giveadogabone.net, sign up to the monthly newsletter, or simply sponsor one of the animals they help every month. Lend a paw and make a tail wag today!

are often followed by diarrhoea and dehydration. Most animals recover with supportive care. However, there have been isolated cases with fatal outcomes.
Autumn Poisons Autumn is such a wonderful season to have a dog. The days have grown a little chillier so owning a canine pal is a great way of being forced into the outdoors to enjoy all the colours that nature provides when we might otherwise huddle on the sofa bemoaning the loss – and lack – of summer. But amongst the falling leaves there are dangers to be aware of for your pet. Acorn, conkers and beechnuts which are shed from trees at this time of year can be highly toxic if ingested in high quantities. Potentially all parts of the horse chestnut tree are toxic but it tends to be the conkers and spiky casings that are consumed by animals. The most common signs seen are retching, vomiting, restlessness and abdominal tenderness which
Buster the Dog
The same is true of the oak tree which contains toxic tannins but it is mainly the acorns that are eaten by pets. If eaten this usually results in mild gastrointestinal problems similar to eating a conker. Again, however, if these are eaten in significant numbers the animal will need to be monitored and observed by veterinary staff. Finally, beechnut ingestion is less common but the sap found in the nut is potentially toxic. It is important to have your pet checked over to make sure they don’t become dehydrated. Any worries or concerns, do contact your vet. Stuart McMorrow is head vet at the Westport Veterinary Clinic, 8 Preston Road, 01506 844165, www.westportvets.co.uk

WALK
The Broxburn, Uphall & River Almond Circular By Ross Mackey, Walk Across Scotland
This month’s walk is a long walk contributed by West Lothian-based Ross Mackey of Walk Across Scotland www.walkacrossscotland.co.uk This is a fairly flat straightforward walk, with the ascent of Binny Craig (221m) the only hill climb of note. Starting at the Union Canal Bridge on Greendykes Road in Broxburn, it takes you west through Broxburn & Uphall Community Wood then north towards the ancient volcanic rock of Binny Craig, southwards along the old railway from Uphall to Almondell Country Park, east along the River Almond and the winding Union Canal back to Broxburn. Distance: 13.54 miles Duration: 6 hours Difficulty: Easy/Moderate STAGE 1: UNION CANAL TO BINNY CRAIG - 3.69 miles ------ Head to Greendykes Road in Broxburn (turns off the Main Street) and just after the road goes over the canal turn left into Industrial Estate road. Rather than follow the road round to the right, continue straight ahead along the footpath which heads towards the woods. The path opens out onto a housing estate. Continue on the road to the end of the row of houses on the right, where you will find a small cap between the garden wall and a burn which suddenly appears. Follow the path to the right around the back of the houses. This area is the Broxburn Community Wood and continues along the north side of Broxburn and Uphall. It will initially take you in a northerly direction, however be aware of other paths weaving through the wood. After approx. 200m, the path takes a sharp turn left and heads west, merging with a more well-defined path . After a further 150m the path reaches the farm road. Cross the road and continue westwards. This well maintained path, popular with dog walkers, takes you to the end of the Community Wood where the path meets the top of Loaninghill Road in Uphall. Stay on the grass, with the fields on your right and the road on your left. After around 100m, you will reach a small gap in a hedge onto the busy Ecclesmachan Road. Directly across the road is the entrance to the Uphall Community Wood. This is KONECT LINLITHGOW 40
Binny Craig, Uphall
another well-made path and continues for approx. 1/2 mile on the north side of the neighbouring housing estate. The community wood path ends at a gate. Go through the gate and head along the pavement which stays close to the trees on your right. After approx. 50-100m, a small grassy area will appear on your right with a narrow trodden path. Follow this path for approx. 50m until it reaches the farm road. The rocky outcrop of Binny Craig will now be clearly visible. The surrounding landscape is predominantly farmland, except for this extinct, volcanic rocky outcrop sitting at 221m above sea level. Follow the farm track until it reaches a narrow burn, Here, follow the path round to the left, over the bridge and through the gate. At this point, the path heads north between two fields, heading towards Binny Craig. At the end of the fields, you will reach a house with a tarmac drive. Walk passed the house on your left and head straight up the hill along a rather rough and slightly overgrown, but wide path. After approx 40-50m, the path abruptly meets a country road. If you look to the left, a signpost for Binny Craig points the way. The summit of the hill is around a ten minute walk from here and is a fairly straightforward path, although care should be taken in wet conditions as the path can be slippery in places. There is no path to the summit of Binny Craig, however, the climb up the wide grassy slopes is not difficult to negotiate. You will find a picnic table here if you fancy a short break for your sandwiches and an Irn Bru.
STAGE 2: BINNY CRAIG TO ALMONDELL COUNTRY PARK - 4.77 miles ------ Unfortunately, for this walk, there is no circular route around Binny Craig, so it is a case of turning back and heading back down the farm track to Uphall. Where, in stage 1, you moved onto the farm track from the narrows trodden path, continue down the farm track towards the town. This will take you into an area of large, stone built detached houses. Continue on to the road where the track ends and follow round to the left. The take the first right which will take you onto the main street of Uphall and Broxburn. Continue east along the main street towards the town for approx. 200m. At the bus stop, take the path on your right. Just after crossing the bridge, take the next path on your left. This continues adjacent to the burn (on your left) until you reach a wider path moving north to south. Follow the sign for Uphall Station. This feels like more of a road than a path, however, it only lasts for around 200m before turning off the right. Do not follow the road - continue in a straight southerly direction through the trees, eventually crossing the footbridge over the busy A89. After 0.9 miles, the path reaches Uphall Station and goes through a tunnel under the railway. Care must be taken not to take the wrong path here as you could end up in the housing state. Once through the tunnel, keep left, taking the path on your left, signposted for East Calder. After a short distance, the path forks and it’s not obvious which direction to go. For this walk, take the right hand path. The left path follows the Edinburgh to Glasgow railway line to the Roman Camps village close to Broxburn. The path continues southerly for around 2-3 miles before reaching Almondell Country Park. At one point, the path goes under the Drumshoreland Road. Take care not to take the exiting path onto the road itself. The entire stretch from Uphall to Almondell can be enjoyed by pram and wheelchair users, although it does get a bit muddier and unkempt after Pumpherston Golf Course, which can be seen on your right. This stage ends when the path moves onto the huge viaduct which crosses the River Almond. From the bridge, there are some spectacular views of the Almond Valley.
STAGE 3: RIVER ALMOND TO UNION CANAL - 2.22 miles ------ This stage follows the River Almond east through the Country Park, continuing until reaching the huge aqueduct carrying the Union Canal. From the Uphall path, head down the steps on the right just before the viaduct. Once at the bottom, follow the sign for the Visitor Centre. At the next bridge, cross over onto the right bank of the river. This opens out onto a large grassy area where we stopped for lunch. Just further down, another bridge allows you to do the same again. We decided to stay on the right of the river along a rough path which meandered through the trees, up the hill and onto the path which comes down from East Calder. If you prefer a flatter path, sticking to the left side of the river is probably best. The path which we took eventually heads downhill towards another bridge, heading across to the picnic, BBQ area and visitor centre on the other side. This will also take you towards the north car park, which is closest to Broxburn. For this walk, however, take the path on your right rather than crossing the bridge. This maintains the easterly direction with the river on your left. This path can get muddy in parts and is perhaps not used as often as other paths in the area. After following this for around a mile, the imposing Union Canal viaduct comes into view. Follow the path which takes you through the trees and uphill and onto the canal tow path above. STAGE 4: UNION CANAL TO BROXBURN - 2.86 miles ------ This is the most straightforward stage as it is simply a case of following the canal from the aqueduct for approx. 2.5 miles in a westerly direction towards Broxburn until reaching the end of the route at the Greendykes Road Bridge. As the canal runs through the town, there are a number of opportunities to leave and re-enter the towpath, depending on whether you would like to go on a detour of the town or to perhaps where the car is parked. Linlithgow Amateur Musical Productions (LAMP) LAMP was formed in 1985, with the children’s theatre starting in 1995, and put on two musical productions a year plus a Christmas concert. They are a strong part of the local community and their shows are always well supported by the town. Joining is by an audition process for both adults and children and they are always keen to see new faces at rehearsal. Many of the children over the years have gone on to start a career in the performing arts. This year’s adult company production will be The Witches of Eastwick, a full scale musical based on the film starring Jack Nicholson and Cher.
The story is based around three female characters, the ‘Witches’ Alexandra Spofford, Jane Smart and Sukie Rougemont. Bored by their mundane lives in the town of Eastwick, a shared longing and desire for “ all manner of man in one man” comes to life in the form of a charismatic stranger, a devil like character called Darryl Van Horne. Seducing each of the women in turn Darryl teaches them how to empower themselves but their new lifestyle scandalises the town. As things turn more sinister events spiral out of control and the women realise Darryls influence is affecting the whole town and resolve to rid him from their lives.
