f you have a lawn to care for, a quality lawn tractor is a must. A good lawn tractor can help cut down the time it takes to mow your lawn and even make the job a relaxing retreat away from other daily hassles. And if you pick a quality model and keep it properly maintained, a good mower will last you for years to come. THE RIGHT FIT Lawn tractors come in a variety of capabilities and price points which can range from $1,000 for a simple, basic model to $10,000 or more for a fullyfeatured, commercial-grade tractor. In between, you will find a vast mixture of features and quality. Select the right model by asking yourself how you will use the lawn tractor. Lawn size is an important factor to consider. For a bigger lawn, you may need a wider mowing deck. Do you have any other planned uses for your tractor such as hauling garden supplies of plowing the drive? High-end lawn tractors are more like pieces of farm equipment than traditional ride-on mowers. You can purchase accessories for them, such as baggers, trailers, powerful tillers and snowblowers. You are not only buying a lawn mower. These tractors are platforms that can be used for all kinds of jobs. So check on the accessories that come with each model, even if you don’t plan on purchasing them yet. You may appreciate the choices in the future.
SPEED, MANEUVERABILITY Most people want to finish the job in the least amount of time. While it is true that large mowing decks will cover more ground with each pass, there are other things to consider as well. The transmission and speed is also a factor. How easy is it for you to change gears and turn in different directions? The zero-turn mower is another popular option. These vehicles can turn quickly and precisely to cut lawns of all sizes and shapes. While they have been used for years by commercial lawn crews, only recently have these mowers become affordable for the average homeowner. Zero-turn mowers are particularly useful when mowing close to homes, playground equipment and other tight areas. DURABILITY The longevity of your lawn tractor is also an important consideration. The brand’s reputation should weigh heavily when you are making a decision. Research consumer reviews and talk to your friends and family members about the best brands of lawn products. Also, visiting a retail store and talk-
ing to knowledgeable salespeople will also help you. There are plenty of low-end, affordable riding mowers out there, but few have a reputation for durability. It is economical in the long run to choose a well-built model from a reputable manufacturer. Inspect the construction of each lawn mower careful to verify that it will meet your needs. While you probably don’t need the extreme engineering and high price of a commercialgrade model, you ought to buy the best model you can afford and follow the maintenance directions closely. It will help you get the most usage for your money. Finding a good dealer is an essential part of the process. When you locate an experienced local retailer with a long track record of happy customers, you will be well on your way to selecting the right lawn tractor for you.

s your loved ones reach their final years, they may encounter medical care needs that family members aren’t able to handle alone. And ensuring that your loved ones are as comfortable and safe as possible as they age is paramount to guarding their quality of life. That’s where a good nursing home facility comes in. A nursing home can provide a comfortable living environment for your loved ones while ensuring that all of their needs are met. As an added bonus, you can rest assured knowing that quality medical care is always nearby to meet any medical emergency that may arise. You can’t put a price on that peace of mind. Here are a few things to think about if you believe someone you love could benefit from nursing home care. Visit the Facility Take a tour of the potential facility. You should intuitively feel warmth and safety in this environment. Your visit will also provide clues about the general atmosphere and morale of the residents. There should be lots of natural light, cheerful colors, bright wall art and hints of laughter from the staff and patients. Focus on the cleanliness, staffing levels and the appearance of other residents. Is the air fresh and free from unpleasant odors such as urine, feces and stale food? Are there enough nurses and attendants on duty? Are residents appropriately dressed? Do they seem clean and freshly bathed? Bring the prospective resident along for the tour. This facility may become
home. Your loved one deserves to have a voice in selecting the facility. Feeling welcomed are cues that this could be a positive living experience. Socializing is important. Are there opportunities for residents to meet each other? Regular activities such as music and crafts or an outdoor area for enjoying the sunshine will enhance quality of life. Most nursing home facilities are happy to provide a tour of the building. Once you see the environment, ask for a consultation with a staff member. This is an opportunity for you to ask questions and address special needs of the prospective patient. Possible questions might include availability of physical and occupational therapy, accommodation of patients’ doctors’ appointments outside the facility and access to barbers and beauticians for the residents. Talk with Others You might have a chance to talk with a relative of a patient who is currently living in the nursing home. Don’t be afraid of asking them for honest opinions about the facility. Query them about the staff and quality of care received by the residents. Solicit their input on whether you should place your own loved one in this facility. These relatives are usually eager to
share their experiences with you. Hearing their impressions will help ease your own anxieties about this important decision. Ask the Doctor If you are still unsure about your decision, or if you have reservations about the facility, discuss the matter with your loved one’s primary care physician. This professional should also be able to recommend good nursing facilities in your area. The doctor may suggest additional facilities not on your original list. When your loved one has special needs, the doctor will know which facility or center can best meet these requirements. Deciding to put a family member or loved one in a nursing facility is never easy. Carefully weigh the expectations of your family member with your impressions and the recommendations of others. This is one of life’s most difficult decisions. Taking the time and doing the research will result in a better quality of life for your loved one and peace of mind for yourself.

HOW TO...
A
6 • How To Guide
TVs have been the go-to work and play machine for, well, forever. As many have already discovered the ATV got a big brother in the early 2000’s…the Side-by-Side. The Side-by-Side has become the go-to option for those who work and play outdoors. Side-by-Sides provided the power and versatility to haul all your gear and bring the family (or buddies, shhhh we won’t tell), with models capable of carrying two, four and even six people you’ll never have to decide between Rover and that extra fuel can. Typically wider than the standard ATVs, Side-by-Sides tear up the mountain, slash through water crossings and blast through the dunes all while sharing the adventure with your friends and family. Now you’re amped to tear up some trails I bet you’re thinking how do I decide which model, which brand. Not to worry, we’re here to give you the information you need so you get the machine you want. KNOW THE LAWS Few things blur lines like Side-bySides. Part car, part off road beast. Engineered for off-road performance and at home on the street. Most cities in Utah and Idaho allow Side-by-Sides to drive on their streets with a few minor aftermarket accessories. Trail law is similarly simple…if you fit…that’s it. Whether you ride Utah’s sub 50” trails (Honda’s Pioneer 500), unrestricted mountain trails (Honda’s Pioneer 1000) or the dunes (Yamaha’s YXZ 1000 SS)
there is a Sideby-Side for your adventure. Not all States are equal (maybe we’re biased). When you do travel with your Side-by-Side, and you will, be sure to check the local laws and always stay safe and stay legal. WHERE WILL YOU RIDE? The first and most important question. Where you ride will determine the best Side-by-Side for you. Tight trail navigation (Honda’s Pioneer 500), extreme rock crawling(Yamaha’s Wolverine X4), ranch workhorses (Yamaha’s Viking and Honda’s Pioneer 1000) or dune blasting (Yamaha’s YXZ 1000 SS). Side-by-Sides are all versatile, but each model handles some types of terrain better than other types. Whether you’re a “Steady as She Goes “ type or a heart pounding adrenaline junky picking the Side-by-Side that fits the terrain and your riding style makes the difference between a casual rider and an enthusiast. CHASSIS AND ENGINE The difference between a good ride and a great one are found under the hood and above the wheels. The reliability, durability and power engi-
neered by manufacturers like Honda and Yamaha will let you push your limits, push your machine’s limits, make it home and let you keep doing it all for years. Remember, pretty graphics won’t get you out of the mud. REPUTATION It boils down to TRUST. Trust is at the core of the Side-by-Side experience. From purchase to the most extreme ride through to servicing your new Goanywhere ride. You can trust reputable dealers like CACHE HONDA YAMAHA in Hyde Park, UT to treat you right and get you into the right ride. You can trust the opinions of your friends and neighbors that already own one of these amazing machines. And you can trust the durable and dependable machines from Honda and Yamaha to get you home. Now you’re ready. Let them eat your dust!!

here are few better ways to honor a deceased loved one’s life than with an beautiful monument or headstone at the grave site. And today, options for unique monuments to honor any personality are near endless. To find the perfect monument for your loved one, you first need to pick an excellent monument maker. SELECTION The best monument companies have a wide selection of stones and styles. Most of them display headstones onsite so you can view the products firsthand. It is much easier to see them in person than trying to make a choice through a catalog. Most headstones consist of granite because of its beauty and durability. This stone comes in different colors and textures. Each piece of granite is unique. You also have a choice of finishes. There are different polishing, sandblasting and carving styles. Some companies will show you computer simulations while others will have examples on display. Even when your budget is tight, look at headstones in a variety of price points. It will help you understand what your money will buy. It will also help you compare the differences. KNOWLEDGE
High-quality monument companies employ people with extensive knowledge about products and techniques. It is essential you choose a headstone that will withstand the elements. The materials, carvings and decorations will factor into the longevity of the monument. Inquire about the durability of natural stones and the depth of the lettering. If the carvings are not deep enough, the letters will wear away quickly, making the headstone undecipherable. SERVICE Choose a company that has been in business for many years. They should have stellar customer service and an impeccable track record. Do not tolerate high-pressure sales tactics. After all, you are purchasing a headstone. Every customer should be treated with patience and respect. CUSTOMIZATION Many people are happy with a traditional headstone, but you have the
option of including symbols, quotes and other elements. Look for a company offering designs and layouts that will reflect an individual’s personality and interests. You can honor religious beliefs, clubs, achievements or careers. It is a nice way to detail a person’s life. If you have something truly unique in mind, simply ask the salesperson. Most companies will cater to your request or refer you to someone who can help you. OTHER SERVICES Monument companies also offer a variety of other services, such as decorating landscapes or memorials for various sites. They might also help you repair a headstone.

hether you’re moving to another state, or you’ve just adopted a new friend, here’s everything you need to know about finding a veterinarian that’s right for you. Look for AAHA accreditation It’s a good idea to choose an animal hospital that’s been accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Animal hospitals that choose to be accredited show they are committed to meeting -- or exceeding -- standards in a variety of different areas (approximately 900 standards, to be exact). An AAHA-accredited hospital goes above and beyond. They must prove to a third-party (AAHA) that they consistently provide the safest, highest quality care. Hospitals that are accredited by AAHA meet high veterinary care standards. Each hospital voluntarily completes a detailed evaluation of its services and equipment. Then a practice consultant thoroughly evaluates the hospital to make sure it meets AAHA’s high standards in the areas of: emergency services pain management contagious diseases surgery and anesthesia radiology services pathology services nursing care diagnostic and pharmacy dentistry
examination facilities pet medical records medical library housekeeping and maintenance An easy way to find AAHAaccredited hospitals is with the American Animal Hospital Association Hospital Locator. Ask people like you Get recommendations from friends or coworkers who feel the same way about their pets as you do. If you consider your pet a member of your family, ask people who think the same way. If you’re moving far away If you’re moving to another area, ask your current veterinarian for a recommendation. Area veterinary medicine associations also have lists of active members, often with special interests such as avian and exotic medicine. Tour the practice When you find an animal practice you think you like, ask for a tour. The hospital should be proud to show you its facility. During the tour ask yourself the following: Is it clean? Do the animals seem comfortable and safe? Are dogs and cats separated? Does the equipment look up-to-date? Is there too much clutter? Schedule a “get acquainted” meeting The worst time to find a
veterinarian is when your pet becomes ill and really needs one. Instead, schedule a brief get acquainted meeting so you and your pet can meet with the veterinarian. This meeting will allow you to ask about hospital practices and determine if this hospital is the “right fit” for both you and your pet. An effective veterinarian-owner-pet relationship is a partnership and communication is key. Should your veterinarian have a specialty? If you have a bird, you’ll want to find an avian animal veterinarian. If you have a fish, look for an aquatic animal veterinarian. Veterinarians should be able to care for all other types of animals. This includes the many different breeds of cats and dogs. 7 questions to ask a veterinary hospital When considering a veterinarian, some basic questions you might ask: Can you request an appointment with a certain veterinarian? The answer should be yes. Do you have a large network of specialists if needed? The answer should be yes. What is your telephone policy? They should have educated staff available to answer your questions over the phone. But you should always be able to leave the veterinarian a message to call you back. What is your response to
emergencies? If your pet has a serious emergency (automobile accident), the hospital should be able to see you immediately or arrange for your pet to go to another hospital that can. How long should I have to wait to schedule a routine appointment? Most practices should be able to schedule an appointment within a couple days to a week, depending on how busy they are, and how urgent your pet’s needs are. What types of payment methods do you offer? Ask the practice to make sure that they are set up to accept the types of payments you need. Do you have an email system where I can schedule appointments and ask questions? An increasing number of practices offer online services. Ask to see if they offer these types of services. Keeping your pet healthy is very important. But your veterinarian can’t do it alone. It’s up to you to work in partnership with your veterinarian to give your pet the care he/she needs to live a healthier, happy life.

uying or selling a home are enormous, and often stressful, transactions. Even the smallest mistake will cause major headaches. And last minute issues could add unwanted drama and completely stop the deal, and some events might even trigger legal headaches. That’s why finding a qualified and experienced title company to help you complete the transaction is essential. REPUTATION The best title companies have a solid reputation with real estate agents and attorneys. A great way to choose a title company is to ask for referrals. Find out which title companies realtors and real estate experts prefer in your community. Be sure to get several recommendations. Remember, title companies have a key role in real estate transactions -- everything from researching and insuring the title’s history to conducting the meeting where you will sign your closing documents. You don’t want to trust such an important job to a company without happy clients and a long track record. LOCAL KNOWLEDGE It is vital that you find a title company that knows your local area well. Real estate laws vary from state to state. Municipalities will also have their own common practices and policies that real estate agents must navigate. Skilled title companies will excel in three areas: knowledge, speed and service. Having a company that knows your local area, including everyone involved from the realtors to the courthouse employees, will go a long way toward help-
ing you at the closing table. When problems or questions arise, a title company should already have long-standing relationships with people who can get the issue resolved quickly and correctly. LOCATION Title companies are typically where participants sign documents at the closing table, so the title company’s location and hours are important to consider. Even if you are closing at another site -- such as an attorney’s office -- having an accessible title company can be an asset. All other things being equal, you should pick a company with a convenient office location where you feel comfortable. TECHNOLOGY In today’s fast paced modern age we have the opportunity to send and receive information by the touch of an electronic button. Title companies that are invested in the future and keeping up with technology have the ability to provide access and communications through email, text or an actual portal into their software that allows clients to store and access information in their files. This can be a great time saver, and an efficient way to move toward a smooth closing of your transaction.
Some title companies have user friendly apps that can also provide valuable information about costs associated with the transaction so you can shop your costs effectively. FEES Have a clear understanding of all the applicable costs and fees upfront. Some charges may be negotiable, while others may be set in stone. A realtor can explain all the title-related costs to make sure you’re being charged a reasonable rate for the services provided. Basing a title company on their fee schedule alone, however, is not a good idea. This is not a time to pinch pennies. It is very important they do the job right. You may find that it wasn’t worth the savings if problems arise or if the cheaper title company doesn’t offer fast, friendly and experienced service. It is important to trust the judgment of professionals. Discuss different title companies with real estate experts in your area. After all, they work with title companies every day and will have a lot of valuable knowledge to impart.

ntiques mean different things to different people. But there’s no denying that antiques are where nostalgia meets art in everyday things. The character of old products and the sense of history dating back decades or generations can be inexplicably attractive. It’s because we know every antique piece has a story. Some have multiple stories embedded in the array of nicks and scrapes marking them. And we’re often free to imagine our own stories about their pasts. Antiques don’t go out of style. And no matter what the piece, there’s a good chance it will always of interest to someone — a collector, museum creator, a professional collector or an auctioneer. Usually, a piece should be at least 50 years old to be considered a true antique. But just because it’s old doesn’t mean it’s an antique. “Collectible” and “vintage” are not synonymous with “antique.” That’s an important distinction to keep in mind when shopping for authentic pieces. Many items considered antiques are simply collectibles. View-Masters, vinyl records, spoons and even thimbles are some examples of popular collectibles that are not antiques. Also, vintage items are usually from a certain time period, such as the 1970s or 1980s. When looking for authentic antiques, quality, craftsmanship,
manufacturer and history of the piece are paramount. WHERE TO BUY Online stores, flea markets and estate sales are great places to find antiques. They might even offer you a good deal. But unless you really know your antiques use these venues with caution. Know the difference between a genuine antique and a fake. And never buy something without inspecting it. Auction sites may be convenient, but you will have to add the cost of shipping and insurance to the price of the item. It is better to find the same item at a local shop or estate sale. You can use an online auction site for research, to see what other people are bidding on the same or similar pieces. But to truly find the best and most authentic deals, shopping your local antique stores is your best bet. You are much more likely to get a better deal on an authentic piece at your local antique shop. Local shop owners like to build a rapport with their customers and love to talk about the history of their inventory. When you shop locally, you will also have the assurance of being able to validate works before purchasing them. Ask your friends and family for a reputable antique dealer. Newspaper
ads, phone books and online websites might also guide you toward local antique dealers. Your local antique dealer can also be helpful when you need to find the true value of your loved ones collections after they have passed away. FORM A RELATIONSHIP After you have found two or three prospective dealers, visit their shops. If you are searching for a particular item, they will try to locate it for you. If they don’t have the item, they might be able to tell you about another dealer who carries it. Creating a good relationship with a dealer has lots of advantages. Dealers can give you their assurance you that the pieces are authentic. Dealers may offer regular clients better prices. They will also help you find other resources, such as conferences and conventions that can educate you in the art of finding the perfect antique for your home or office.

egular maintenance is key to keeping your car looking and running well—not to mention avoiding costly repair bills. Your life as an auto owner will be a lot easier if you build a solid relationship with a dependable and trustworthy mechanic. That will prove especially true when you have a need for unexpected repairs. Even if your car is new, at some point it will need tires, oil changes or even a new engine. If you have a relationship with a good auto repair shop, you won’t sweat it when these things come up. If you haven’t had a regular mechanic is recent years, now is the time to find one. Here are a few points to consider: • Less than 40 percent of new customers in auto shops are walk-ins. That means word of mouth is still king in the industry. Find a shop that gets rave reviews from family and friends, and you’ll be in good hands. • The Better Business Bureau can inform you about the repair shop’s performance and reliability. • If you travel often, consider a shop that offers a national warranty. For instance, a warranty of 12,000 miles or 12 months is handy for issues that keep cropping up, particularly in older cars. • Ask about the shop’s range of services. They will need the latest technology to diagnose problems with newer cars. For example, can
your prospective shop handle brake systems, electrical components and warranty repairs? Does the shop provide a loaner, rental car, or shuttle service while your car is being repaired? • Look around the shop. Is the equipment in good condition? Is it clean, well-lit and organized? These factors all contribute to a level of professionalism. • Look for brand names and proper certification. Does the auto repair shop use brand-name parts? These parts are engineered to meet the manufacturer’s specifications and will likely come with a warranty. Shops may use remade or generic brands which your insurance policy may not cover, so be sure to check. • Are the auto technicians certified by a specific car manufacturer, the National Institute for Automotive Services or Automotive Science Excellence? Is the shop approved by the American Automobile Association? If so, this indicates a customer approval rating of 90 percent or higher and the ability to adequately perform the
services advertised. • Compare the services and fees of each shop in the area to find out the average price ranges. Don’t pick a shop based on cost; poor repair work will mean higher costs in the long run. You’ll also want to ask about the shop’s warranty policy. Imagine spending hundreds on a repair only to learn the work isn’t guaranteed. Once you have found a shop you trust, establish a good working relationship and try to use the shop for all of your automotive needs. Your mechanic will come to know you as a dependable customer and always be sure to provide you the highest level of service.

f you want more personal service than a big bank branch, you should look into credit unions. Unlike big banks, which are owned by shareholders or conglomerates, credit unions are typically nonprofit operations owned by their members. Credit unions charge fewer and lower fees than for-profit banks. Any dividends go to the members instead of shareholders. In short, credit unions are a good deal. They usually offer better interest rates on savings accounts and competitive rates on various loans. You might get a fantastic rate on a student loan, mortgage, auto loan or credit card. And, like bigger banks, the Federal government ensures credit union deposits up to $250,000. The first step in selecting a credit union is to research those in your community and their membership requirements. Some credit unions are available to employees of specific companies, groups of public service or school employees. But offers extend eligibility to anyone willing to follow their membership requirements. You may be asked to join a food co-op or other organization in order to qualify for membership. A simple Internet search is an excellent starting point. Develop a list of credit unions in your area. Then narrow your possibilities by researching eligibility, services offer and fees charged by each credit union. Verify the current interest rates on their accounts. If you can’t find the rates online, call and ask them for the percentages Find out if there are any fees associated with the accounts you want to
open. As with traditional savings and loan banks, you might be required to pay a fee if you fall below a minimum balance. Check about other requirements. You might need to use your debit card a certain amount of times each month. If you are in the market for a specific loan, research to see if the loan is issued by the credit union. Once you have found several credit unions offering that type of loan, compare interest rates and specials to see who has the best deal. Of course, convenience is something to keep in mind. Check for availability of online services, weekday and weekend hours, where branches and ATMs are located. You should also understand any fees associated with ATM or debit card usage. If you use ATMs frequently, those charges can add up fast. Some credit unions belong to a nation network of credit unions for shared services. It might mean more access to ATMs and other services in case you move or go on vacation. If you have children attending college in other cities,
this can be useful. Once you have completed your research, make a list of the advantages and disadvantages of each credit union. You can easily compare them. Upon choosing your credit union, visit the branch so you can understand all of the services. Learn more about the benefits of membership.

...Choose a Funeral Home

hen a loved one passes away, it is a difficult and emotional time for family and friends alike. For family, everyone must deal with the sense of loss; the emotional pain and suffering that accompanies the death of a loved one. Yet someone in the family will also have the difficult task of handling the practical side of things. Handling funeral arrangements is one such task. Often, the biggest part of that task is choosing the right funeral home. It’s never easy to take on the burden of selecting a funeral home for a loved one. But there are some ways to make the process easier for yourself, as well as for your family. If you are in need of finding the best funeral home for a family member, consider these tips. They can help make the burden of choosing the right funeral home a little less stressful. Pre-arranged Funeral Plan Sometimes your loved one has already chosen a funeral home. Most funeral homes offer what’s called a prearranged funeral plan where you can choose and pay for what service you want, merchandise (such as casket, vault, urn, clothing, etc.), Cemetery, flowers, and other expenses prior to their passing away. Pre-arranged funeral plans help alleviate any stress of having to make these decisions during a difficult time as well as paying for them. Also, these plans are usually protected against Medicaid. It is always a good idea to find out if your loved one has chosen a funeral home because they purchased a prearranged plan previous to their passing away.
Ask For References From Friends Everyone, at some point, comes into contact with a funeral home. And even if you’ve never been in that position yourself, it’s likely that you have a friend or two who has. Talk to the people you know. Ask your friends if they would recommend the services provided at the funeral homes they have used. They may be able to share valuable information about the staff, facility and prices of a specific funeral home. Ask About Packages It is important that you ask a potential funeral home what types of packages they offer. This applies whether your deceased loved one had a specific list for their final wishes, or you have to make these decisions for yourself. You will find that not all funeral homes are created equal, and each offers their own different ways of handling a service. No matter what type of requirements you have, it is best to choose a funeral home that will cater to your specific needs in order to make this difficult situation a little less daunting. Caring Staff When visiting a potential funeral
home, the funeral director can be a major deciding factor when you choose whether or not to use this particular company to handle the funeral of your loved one. A caring and professional funeral director and staff will take the time to explain all your options in an empathetic way so you can make a better choice when choosing a funeral home. If the director seems short or uninterested in your needs or makes you feel like you and your deceased loved one aren’t important, you won’t want to choose this facility to handle the funeral of your loved one. While dealing with the death of a loved one is hard, choosing the right funeral home can help relieve you of some stress. If you want your loved one to receive the proper funeral he or she deserves, following the above listed tips should help you make the right choice.
