Middle School Standards-Based Assessment and Reporting

At HKIS we adopt a principle driven approach to Assessment, Grading and Reporting. Details of these principles and their corresponding practices are available on DragonNet.

At the Middle School division we believe that:

• Students benefit from feedback that describes their level of learning against standards. • Feedback on approaches to learning should be given separately.

Middle School reporting is based on the following two rubrics. These outline the academic expectations and learning habits, which students are assessed with.

General Academic Scale

Emerging

The student demonstrates emerging proficiency in the standard.

The student is beginning to demonstrate foundational knowledge and skills. Developing

The student demonstrates developing proficiency in the standard.

The student demonstrates the foundational knowledge and skills required to exhibit the standards but is not yet exhibiting proficiency in the standard. Exhibiting

The student exhibits proficiency in the standard.

The student demonstrates the targeted understanding of knowledge and skills. Exhibiting Depth

The student exhibits depth in the standard.

The student is able to transfer learning to authentic or atypical situations. The student can draw upon their conceptual understanding to solve real world problems that show a level of creativity and sophistication.
