Starting from the first part of this project, the goals explore the following types of contrasts: scale, weight, direction, texture, dimension/space, and form. These visual principles introduced the use of visual interest. They are using skills to design strategies that explore and display appealing techniques. These include balance, positive/negative space, or unexpected/inventive form. This assignment helps to develop framed compositions and learning how to organize and compare contrasting designs We specifically had to use one shape to display the six contrasts. This created mine to be a square theme so that all the contrasts would match. Each creation existed in pairs for each contrast. I had 12 designs in total. The black and white designs had to have identical dimensions being “6 x “6.

REFLECTION: I worked on developing my skills using Illustrator, this contrasts project was the first time I used the software. So I found myself learning my way through moving the shapes and creating new forms. Some of my strengths I had were thinking of visual balance and variety in each composition. Weaknesses I had were visual depth and making sure the compositions contrasted enough together. Hearing feedback helped me develop these strengths and weaknesses in my revisions. Gaining me the new knowledge and finalizing my artboards to create some successful unified pairs.

The second part of the project had the objective of taking a mundane object/material, To then transform using photography and create interesting formstorms. Using camera skills like controlling the depth of field, lighting or framing. The concept included challenging our experimentation skills of how we could make this object intriguing. The goals consisted of capturing close-ups of the object. As well as creating cool light effects/shadows or reflection.
DISPLAYING FORMSTORM: The guidelines that followed the formstorms were through three stages of different photoshoots. Which then helped develop new ideas of transformations. The first stage was making 30 images then 50 photos. The last concept included a destruction phase of transforming the object even more but physically. The specific files of the pictures were captured digitally, then edited to black and white. Finally, the cropping and compositions of the photos helped achieve good balance and rule of thirds with the variety of photographs.
REFLECTION: A strength I felt I had was my experience in taking digital photos. It helped me work with the indoor lighting and altering the aperture for the depth of field. The most challenging part was thinking of the concept behind what I wanted to display with my object. To transform it, I wanted to have good angles and content. While looking through the photography, I wasn’t sure which I should collect as my favourites. However there was great development in my form storming and i came out with some cool imagery liked by my peers.
