Mother is said to be the core of a family. However, breast cancer plagues one in every 13 local women, taking its toll on countless families here in Hong Kong. Over the past three decades, the number of breast cancer cases among women in Hong Kong has significantly increased. In 2021, 5,565 women were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, which was five times higher than in 1991. About 15 women die from breast cancer every week on average. The median age of local patients is 58. Over 94% of breast cancer patients are over 40 years of age. The older, the higher the risk.

Regular breast screenings can help patients detect and treat breast cancer at an early stage, thereby reducing the burden on patients and their families and alleviating the financial strain of medical expenses.
