在香港這個煩囂的城市，很難遠離人群而得到一點寧靜與平和， 我們更常常因此而忘了欣賞或留意身邊的人和物。 智能電話的出現，更令這種情況加劇：「低頭一族」處處可見— 站著也好，坐著也好，走路也好，大家的眼睛都只會盯著手提電 話屏幕。再加上一副耳筒，就真的神遊物外，進入了另一時空。 這是我們人類進化的方向嗎？閉鎖在自己的世界，不再與他人接 觸或溝通？
香港小交響樂團的樂季主題「Great Encounters」重申我們要拉 近古典音樂與公眾之距離的志向，強調音樂在溝通、學習、減壓 和娛樂上的功用，提醒大家每一次音樂經驗都是獨特的邂逅—不 單是跟音樂家的接觸，也是我們自身的體驗，以及與知音朋友分 享音樂心得的機會。雖然沒有科學理據，但大家都知道聽完音樂 會後會有一份特別的「得著」—如果你已試過享受這種感覺，那 就真的值得喝采了！
過去15年，通過我主持的音樂會《古典音樂知多少》（p43）及 要反世界潮流而行當然不可能。不過，既然察覺下一代有逐漸失 《古典音樂速成》系列，樂團跟觀眾日見親近。副指揮黎志華的 去互動與溝通的危機，我們覺得應嘗試提醒人們互相溝通與了解 《寶寶愛音樂》系列門票往往在數小時內售罄，我們今年再將系 的可貴，希望大家重拾這些感覺，鼓勵大家再抬起頭，與他人四 列延伸，黎志華將指揮一個專為三至六歲小童而設的音樂會，將 目交投，直接對話，而不是通過屏幕傳遞消息。 零至兩歲的音樂會交棒給樂團新任助理指揮黃祖麒（p27）。 4
其他「樂聚」還有同樣踏入第五個年頭的免費午間室樂音樂會 （p50）和香港小交響樂團 ArtisTree 駐場計劃（p48）。午間音樂 會在香港大會堂大堂舉行，觀眾可以邊品嚐自己帶來的午餐， 邊享受我們樂師的演奏。為期三周的 ArtisTree 駐場計劃讓樂團 成員可以更近距離地與觀眾接觸，大家不需分毫，就可以欣賞美 妙音樂，還可以參與表演中互動的環節。 當然，一如以往15個樂季，我們還有33場在香港大會堂音樂廳的 音樂會，與來自世界各地的指揮家及獨奏家合作。 今年，我們特別設計了切合樂季主題，別出心裁的《樂在咫尺》 系列，讓大家與音樂家（包括樂團成員）作更深層的接觸：他們 有的會分享演奏心得，有的會與觀眾輕鬆對談，有的甚至會親自 指點您的演奏技巧（p46）。詳情請密切留意樂團消息！ 駐團藝術家計劃今年已是第八季了，樂團再次邀請不同界別的 藝術家合作，包括音樂學家麥淑賢教授及演員/�手���，分 享他們對藝術的熱誠及知識，為樂團的節目創造更多新意和可 能性。 音樂是先要溝通才能了解，了解過後才會懂得欣賞。大家當然可 透過手機、網站、臉書得到我們的最新消息，但親歷其境的音樂 會經驗才是最寶貴，是科技無法取代的。 希望這個樂季能為你帶來無數難忘的音樂邂逅，我期望在樂團的 演出和活動中與您相遇。

In a busy and bustling city such as Hong Kong, we try hard to avoid crowds and people, hoping for some peace and quiet… so much so that we often forget to notice or appreciate things and people around us. To exacerbate the situation, the booming smartphone industry today witnesses the growth of people with “the lower-headed syndrome” – where people have heads lowered and locked in a permanent position sitting or standing, stationary or moving, with eyes glued to the phone screens. With further “help” from the headphone, these people are blocking off the rest of the world. Is this the way human beings are meant to continue? To be in their own world and shying away from physical social interaction and communication? Turning back a global trend is generally impossible but as we realise how the next generation might gradually be losing their sense to interact and communicate, we thought we would like to do our part in providing and therefore remind people of the beauty of social interactions, hopefully re-igniting the senses and encouraging people to raise their heads up again, look into other people’s eyes and talk to each other, rather than “communicate” by swiping away on a touch-screen. Hong Kong Sinfonietta’s theme this season “Great Encounters” reiterates our commitment to make classical music relevant to the general public of Hong Kong and therefore, of all the functional properties which music provides to the human race, we accentuate the possibility of using music to communicate, as well as to learn, de-stress, and entertain. We remind our audiences (and ourselves) that every musical experience is actually a unique encounter — not only with the musicians, but with what you are experiencing inside, and of course the sharing with the friends you came with you to the concert. Without any scientific explanation, one understands that “the something you take home” after a LIVE concert is something special — and if you are aware of that feeling… that, is Great!

In the past 15 years, we have developed a proximity to our audiences with my “talking concerts” — the Know Your Classical Music (p43) and Short-cut to Classical Music series. As our Associate Conductor Jason Lai’s babies concert tickets get sold out in a few hours, we have added this season, a concert for “3–6 year-old kids”, a step-up to all the babies (0–2 year-olds) who are now older. Our new Assistant Conductor Jacky Wong Cho-ki takes the baton from Jason Lai to take care of the babies from this season (p27). Other closer encounters for the fifth year running is our off the stage free chamber concerts Good Music This Lunch at the City Hall foyer where you are able to BYOL (bring your own lunch) and spend an hour at lunch time with our own musicians (p50). Another close encounter which will continue this season, is our fifth year of ArtisTree Residency (p48) — where you can indulge for 3 weeks in music both as an audience and interactively, all free of charge!
Our Artist Associates this season are Professor Mak Su-yin (musicologist) and Mr Chu Pak-him (actor/singer). In the eighth year of the HKS Artist Associates scheme, they will be sharing their passion and knowledge to create something extraordinary with and for the orchestra — and most importantly, for the greater appreciation of all HKS audiences. Only with more communication will there be mutual understanding and therefore appreciation. Yes, one’s smartphone is a “necessary evil” (I am an equal guilty party) — you can check our upcoming programmes on our website and Facebook but I hope you will agree with us that nothing beats LIVE experiences! See you up close, at all our performances and activities — and I hope our 2014/2015 season brings you many Great Encounters.
And these are all in addition to our 33 regular performances at the City Hall Concert Hall, where we collaborate with guest soloists and conductors from all over the world, as we have done for the last 15 years. As a special treat to fit our theme this season, we will be sharing with you some extra special UpClose Encounters — where we bring the international and local artists, including our musicians, even closer to you! Some will share with you the “secrets” to their playing technique, some will also have informal dialogue sessions, and others, informal classes! You might even be able to join them on the stage (p46). Look out for more information for these activities as the season starts.

初次邂逅音樂的時候，我大概還在母親的 體內。父母對音樂的熱誠帶我走進了音樂 的奇妙世界；他們對音樂教育的投入也對 我的音樂歷程影響至深。

我的指揮夢很自然地也是受到父親的啟發 而萌生，他的兒童合唱團就正是我的成長 搖籃。我至今也非常感激他一直給予我的 鼓勵和支持。透過指揮工作，我結交了很 多朋友、與世界各地的音樂家合作過、亦 不斷接觸了許多古今偉大的作曲家。每一 次經歷都很獨特 — 於鄧肯活音樂中心跟隨 指揮大師小澤征爾以及伯恩斯坦學習，或 者於法國貝桑松第35屆國際青年指揮大賽 贏得冠軍，都可以說是我的音樂人生裡最 興奮及精彩的時刻。

音樂演奏就是音樂家彼此以及與觀眾之 間的交流和對話。一個指揮家不能獨自 奏樂，能夠擁有一班富有熱忱的音樂家 為樂團是一份福氣。在香港小交響樂團 擔任音樂總監12年的日子裡，讓我得以 跟一群出色的音樂家共事，探索編排不 同節目的可能性，以及為不同觀眾群獻 上美好的音樂。透過樂團，我亦有許多 「第一次」，例如與喜劇演員詹瑞文和編 舞家伍宇烈分別合作了多套非常創新的 節目、與當代傑出小提琴家蘇嘉文與杜 美同台演出、以至帶領樂團出訪南美， 都是我工作生涯中特別難忘的經歷。

自從加入小交以後，我也開始加強了自己 與社會的聯繫，加深了對本地藝圈的認 識，令我意識到讓樂團走進社會以及為年 輕一代音樂家提供機會的重要性。即使我 們每年從政府得到的資助有限，令樂團發 展甚具挑戰，我們仍將繼續努力，通過在 本地及國際取得的卓越成績，讓香港小交 響樂團贏得更多的支持。 我喜歡與人分享我從音樂中得到的喜悅。 每當有觀眾表示很享受我們的音樂會時都 會令我感到非常滿足和感動。相信經過多 年，香港小交響樂團和我經已接觸了數以 萬計的觀眾，我也很高興近年的《寶寶愛 音樂》和室樂音樂會系列繼續為我們帶來 新的觀眾，當中甚至包括了只有數個月大 的小小觀眾哩！ 我相信美好的音樂是屬於每一個人的，而 我們的音樂大門也會永遠為您而開。 My first encounter with music probably happened when I was still in my mother's womb. My parents led me into the wonderful world of music with passion and their devotion in music education has been the most significant influence in my music journey. My wish to pursue conducting was, of course, inspired by my father whose children’s choir was the nurturing cradle for me. I am still very grateful for the encouragement and
support he has given me all along. Through conducting I have made many friends, worked with musicians from different continents, kept contact with great composers from the past as well as those who are our contemporaries. Each encounter is unique: learning with maestros Seiji Ozawa and the late Leonard Bernstein at Tanglewood, participating in and winning the 35th International Competition for Young Conductors in Besançon, France were certainly the most exciting highlights in my musical life. Music making is about communicating and sharing among musicians and with audience. As conductors cannot make music alone, to have a devoted team of musicians as our instrument is a blessing. My 12 years as Music Director of Hong Kong Sinfonietta has given me the opportunity to work with a fantastic group of musicians, explore different possibilities in programming, and play good music for different audiences. There have been many first encounters for me through Hong Kong Sinfonietta, for example, collaborations with Hong Kong actor/comedian Jim Chim and choreographer Yuri Ng in several incredibly innovative projects, performances with two of the greatest violinists of our time, Pinchas Zukerman and Augustin Dumay, and going on tour to South America are some of the most memorable experiences in my career.
I have also begun to connect myself more to the society of Hong Kong since joining the Sinfonietta. The awareness of the local scene makes me realize the need and importance to reach out to the community and to provide opportunities for the next generation of musicians. Although the limited funding we receive each year from the Government proves to be a challenge in the course of the development of the orchestra, we will continue our task to show that Hong Kong Sinfonietta deserves more support through our hard work and the remarkable results we have achieved both locally and internationally. It has always been my goal to share the joy that I have found in music making with people. It is, indeed, very rewarding and heartwarming when members of the audience come to let us know how much they have enjoyed our music. I am sure the Sinfonietta and I have reached thousands of audience through our concerts and I am very pleased that our recent babies concerts and chamber music series have continued to bring in newcomers starting from the very early age of just a few months! I believe good music is for everyone and our doors are always open.

副指揮 Associate Conductor
Music is my life, I could not imagine a world without it. I feel so lucky to be able to do the job that I do: to stand in front of great musicians and share with them my thoughts and feelings on music. These daily encounters with music fascinate me and the more experience I have the more questions I have. It is a constant voyage of discovery, and in this voyage you have to bring everything along with you. Of course you have to practise and refine technique, but music is more than this. Much, much more than this. The best concerts I have been to are those in which you feel the journey with the musicians and that there is some emotional connection that goes way beyond the actual notes. At this moment you feel life is music, or music is life.

音樂是我的生命，我想像不了一個沒有 音樂的世界。我非常慶幸自己可以從事 現在的工作，站在優秀的音樂家面前， 與他們分享我對音樂的種種想法和感 受。每天與音樂的邂逅令我很著迷，而 當我經歷得愈多，隨之而來所產生的疑 問也會愈多，有如踏上了一場永無間斷 的探索之旅。在這旅途上，你需要全心 全意的投入，也需要不斷的練習去提升 自己的技巧，但音樂不止於此，所要求 的遠超於此。我曾經欣賞過最好的音樂 會，當中空氣裡的音符往往伴隨著豐富 的感染力，牽引你與音樂家一同感受這 趟音樂旅程。於這瞬間，你會感受到人 生就如音樂，又或是音樂就如人生。

我很慶幸曾與音樂和無數音樂家「邂 逅」，而且從未間斷。我還很記得初次聽 到從前的音樂大師殿堂作品，和接觸對我 影響甚深的當代作曲家之新作時的感受。 有幾次，因著發人心省的演奏，我與以往 我覺得無足輕重的音樂作品「重新邂 逅」。而文化背景迥然不同的音樂也會給 我強烈的觸動，例如是首次現場接觸日本 傳統能劇及南印度古典音樂，其後更促使 我學習及浸淫其中。當然，我也很幸運地 能夠與同儕演奏家合作，共獻美好音樂！ I am fortunate that my “great encounters” with music and musicians have been numerous and ongoing. I can naturally remember first hearing many of the great works by composers of previous centuries, and also encountering new works by major living composers that made a big impact on me. Several times I have also “reencountered” — through an enlightening performance — works that previously did not speak to me meaningfully. The intense personal encounter of the music of a different culture entirely has also happened, for example when I first experienced live, and subsequently studied and immersed myself in, the traditions of Japanese Noh Theatre and Southern Indian Carnatic music. And luckily, there have been great encounters between fellow performers live on stage, making music together!

因為音樂，美妙的邂逅太多。 1977-1978 我估計我在母親肚內時已跟音樂邂逅，因為家 父閒時常在家中彈結他唱歌。 11/1978 我出世。童年時，常有家父的結他聲及唱歌聲 陪伴，有意無意地接觸音樂。 朱氏父子地下合唱團成立。 1982 – 弟弟出世。從此，朱氏父子地下合唱團多了一 名地上成員。 小學年代，透過電視劇集認識了超強的顧嘉煇 先生，當時絕大部份的香港人對他的音樂都是 耳熟能詳。 小學中後期，父母支持下開始學習彈奏鋼琴； 不足兩年，因為懶惰就放棄了，現在後悔不已。 1990 – 初中，被男子組合BOYZ 2 MEN的歌聲深深打動。
2014 – 父親走了，我體內仍流著他的血，音樂並未停 止過。 雖然失去了音樂的源頭，但我滿懷感恩跟新的 生活邂逅。 現在，親愛的您正坐在觀眾席，我跟香港小交 響樂團在台上正在跟您分享音樂。 我深感榮幸，因為音樂，我們邂逅。
Because of music, I have had so many wonderful encounters. 1977–1978 I probably had my first musical encounters when I was still in my mother’s womb, as my father’s favourite pastime was singing and playing guitar.
中四那年，班房是地理室，而這室內居然放著 一座老鋼琴，於是我跟同學過了兩年感動的音 樂人生。
11/1978 I was born. As I was growing up, my father’s guitar and singing continued to be part of my life.
1997 – 大專時期， 崛起，同年推出同名個人專 輯，陪伴著我的大失戀。到現時為止，這專輯 仍然是我的最愛，而我最愛的女人由始至終都 是我的母親。
The underground band Chu’s Family Singers was founded.
2002 – 認識了演戲家族。 2003年，在演戲家族的《四川好人》製作中結 識了我最敬愛的高世章老師。 2005年，朱凌凌樂隊成立。 認識了香港小交響樂團。

2013年，父親跟朱凌凌樂隊及結他才子崔展鴻 舉行了Yellow Joker音樂會，大家激動地完成 了心願。
1982 – My brother was born. A new member was added to the Chu’s Family Singers. When I was in primary school, I met the great Joseph Koo through his famous TV theme songs. With the support and encouragement of my parents, I began my piano lessons. However, I gave up in less than two years because I was too lazy; this I now bitterly regret. 1990 – During junior high school, I was touched by the singing of the band BOYZ 2 MEN.
Form 4. My classroom was the geography room, in which, quite unexpectedly, there was an old piano. Thus began two wonderful years of music life with my classmates. 1997 – In my college years, David Tao rose to fame and his début album accompanied the lovelorn me. Today this album remains my favourite; mother continues to be the woman I love the most. 2002 – My first encounter with the Actors’ Family. In 2003, I met my most respected teacher – Mr Leon Ko – through Actors’ Family’s production of The Good Person of Szechwan. In 2005, our band Juicyning was formed. My first encounter with Hong Kong Sinfonietta. In 2013, a dream came true. Father joined Juicyning and the gifted guitarist Tsui Chin-hung in the Yellow Joker concert. 2014 – Father passed away. His blood is still running through my veins. The music has never stopped. The source of my music river may be gone, but I shall encounter a new life with gratitude. Now, dear audience, Hong Kong Sinfonietta and I will share our music with you. I am deeply honoured to be able to make our encounters here, through music.

我真正用心聆聽音樂是在高中時代。有一次， 鄰近大學的鋼琴生來我校舉行午間演奏會，曲 目是德布西的《被淹沒的教堂》和狄伯特的第 二鋼琴奏鳴曲。這之前我對古典音樂一無所 知，也從未想過音樂可以「如此」：樂音竟可 有那麼多的色彩，竟能將潛藏我心、我從不自 覺存在的思緒與情感的弧度，細緻地勾勒出 來。自此沈溺聲色，不斷尋覓這些令我心神入 迷的邂逅。 另一個重要的音樂經驗是大學時期的事。那 時，我剛獲取錄修讀音樂學士課程，但見識淺 薄，只覺理論課非常艱深，便往往把和聲習作 當成數學難題般，「紙上談兵」。有日，經恩 師羅法爾教授的循循善誘，在課堂上靈光一 閃，方知音樂結構是可「聽」出來的。後立志 為音樂人，餘事不贅。 我學習音樂的目標，是要打通任督二脈， 把這 兩種接觸音樂的方法 — 知性的理解與感性的體 驗 — 連結起來。最近，我不斷思考樂曲分析與 演奏的關係。我可以從演奏者身上學到甚麼？ 我又可以回饋他們甚麼？香港小交響樂團在這 個樂季中提供了彼此對話和交流的機會，實為 難得。十分期待與樂手們的「第三類接觸」！
I had my first serious encounter with music in my late teens. A piano student from a nearby university gave a lunchtime recital at my high school, and played Debussy’s The Sunken Cathedral and Tippett’s Second Piano Sonata. I had no knowledge of classical music before, and never imagined music could be like that: sounds which contained so many colours and which traced curves of thought and emotions within myself that I did not even know existed. I was totally captivated. Since this formative experience, I have ever sought encounters with music that would similarly engage my mind and spirit. I had another significant musical encounter at university. At that point, I had just got myself admitted to a music degree programme, but my musical skills were rather minimal. Not surprisingly, I found the theory courses very difficult, and approached assignments as though they were math problems that one “solved” on paper. Then, epiphany: one day, in a music analysis class with Professor Edward Laufer, I discovered what it was like to hear musical structure. The rest, as they say, is history. In studying music, I have aimed to connect these two types of musical encounters, to relate an intellectual understanding of music to its realisation in sound. Recently I have been thinking more and more about the relationship between music analysis and performance. If music represents human experiences, performances bring these experiences to life. What can I learn from performers, and what can I offer in return? Hong Kong Sinfonietta has provided a wonderful opportunity for our dialogue and exchange in the coming season. I do look forward to “close encounters of the third kind” with its musicians!

朱����於劇�及音樂�，現為樂��朱��� 成員。他曾與不同藝團合作，包括香港小交響樂團、 演戲家族、香港話劇團、Kearen Pang Production、同 流及城市當代舞蹈團等，參與近 80 個表演藝術製作。 他於2012/13年度為中英劇團全職演員，並憑劇團製作 《大龍鳳》獲香港舞台劇獎最佳男主角（喜／鬧劇） 提名，亦為藝術文化雜誌《三角志》撰寫專欄《朱事 八卦》，現為香港電台電視節目《好想藝術》擔任主持。
麥淑賢於美國伊士曼音樂學院取得音樂學和音 樂理論哲學博士雙學位，現為香港中文大學音 樂理論科副教授，並曾於香港演藝學院任教多 年。她致力研究舒伯特的音樂，在2008年獲 美國音樂理論學會頒授新晉學者獎，其著作曾 由多份國際學術期刊及大學出版社發表。她鑽研音樂及教學的手法不受 傳統規範，以跨學科的視角探討音樂結構與表達之間的關係，對作品分 析與實際表演之間的互動猶感興趣。
Active as a theatrical actor, composer and musician, Chu Pak-him is a member of independent band Juicyning. He has participated in over 80 productions and collaborated with various performing arts groups including Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Actors’ Family, Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, Kearen Pang Production, WeDraman and City Contemporary Dance Company. He was a fulltime actor of Chung Ying Theatre Company in the 2012/2013 season and is nominated for Best Actor (comedy) in the 23rd Hong Kong Drama Awards. He is a columnist for cultural magazine Delta Zhi and the presenter of the RTHK TV programme, Artspiration.
研究及教學以外，麥淑賢亦從事文學翻譯及中英語詩歌創作，在2011年 香港藝術節，她與香港作曲家鄧樂妍合作，為其室內歌劇《年輪曲》作 詞。她亦曾翻譯本地著名作家黃仁逵、潘源良及思樂維的作品。麥淑賢 的詩作及翻譯文章可見於《明報周刊》、《譯叢》及《OutLoud Too》。

Mak Su-yin is Associate Professor of Music Theory at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She also taught at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts for many years. Mak holds a double-PhD degree in Musicology and Music Theory from the Eastman School of Music. A Schubert scholar of international repute, she has published her research in major journals and university presses, and is recipient of the 2008 Emerging Scholar Award from the Society for Music Theory in the USA. Mak’s approach to musical scholarship and pedagogy is interdisciplinary in nature. She has a strong interest in the relationship between musical structure and expression in music, as well as the interactions between analysis and performance.
黃祖麒於香港浸會大學音樂系及悉尼音樂學院畢業，師隨帕洛，取得指揮及鋼琴演奏 碩士，亦曾參加美國密歇根大學指揮系教授基斯勒的大師班。他曾出任悉尼東區室樂 團音樂總監，並獲邀於澳洲、香港及內地演出。黃祖麒是澳洲ASKM黃金海岸鋼琴比 賽及香港（亞洲）鋼琴公開比賽冠軍得主。
Jacky Wong Cho-ki graduated from the Hong Kong Baptist University and received his master’s degrees in piano performance and conducting from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. His conducting mentors included, in Sydney, Imre Palló, and Kenneth Kiesler at the Conductors Retreat at Medomak in the USA. Wong was the Music Director of the Eastern Sydney Chamber Orchestra and has conducted orchestras in Australia, Hong Kong and China. Wong was the winner of the Hong Kong (Asia) Piano Open Competition and the ASKM Gold Coast Open Piano Competition.

Mak enjoys a secondary career as a literary translator and poet. Her creative writings include poems in English and Chinese and the bilingual libretto for the chamber opera Tree Rhapsody, with music by Hong Kong composer Tang Lok-yin, which was performed at the Hong Kong Arts Festival in 2011. As a translator, she has collaborated with a number of leading local writers, including Wong Yan-kwai, Calvin Poon and Madeleine Marie Slavick. Her poetry and translations have appeared in OutLoud Too, Renditions and Mingpao Weekly.

His musical Heading East won the 2001 Richard Rodgers Development Award of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and his works have been performed at the Carnegie Hall in New York and London’s theatre, Royal Stratford East. Four of his Cantonese musicals, including The Passage Beyond, won the “Best Score” awards at the Hong Kong Drama Awards. His film scores has been nominated in numerous local and overseas film awards and his work for Perhaps Love won him a Hong Kong Film Award, Taiwan’s Golden Horse Award, Asia Pacific Film Festival Award and Golden Bauhinia Award.

She has attracted commissions from numerous performing groups including the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Hong Kong Arts Festival. Her works are featured on CDs published by Ablaze Records and October Music. Tang received her master's degrees in composition and electro-acoustic music from Hong Kong Baptist University. She also received a PhD in musicology from The University of Hong Kong. She currently teaches at Hong Kong Baptist University, The University of Hong Kong and Kingston University.

盧定彰現為英國約克大學作曲系博士生，師隨 布魯克斯教授。在港時他於香港大學隨陳慶恩 博士學習作曲，2009年以一級榮譽畢業，於 2012年修畢碩士課程。盧定彰曾多次於本地 及海外作曲比賽中獲獎。2013年他兩首近作《On the Wings of the Spring Breeze》及《Rude Awakening》分別於大西洋音樂節及捷克奧 斯特拉瓦現代音樂節演出。 Currently a PhD (Composition) candidate at the University of York in the UK under the supervision of Professor William Brooks, Daniel Lo first studied composition with Dr Chan Hing-yan at The University of Hong Kong where he graduated with first class honours in 2009 and then completed an MPhil (Music Composition) in 2012. Lo has won many prizes in local and international competitions including the First Prize at the 7th Musica e Arte Compositions Contest in Rome. Two of his latest works On the Wings of the Spring Breeze (for solo flute) and Rude Awakening (for large orchestra) were performed at the Atlantic Music Festival 2013 and the Ostrava Days 2013 respectively.

He was the winner of a number of composition prizes including Salvatore Martirano Memorial Composition Award and Haifa International Composition Prize. His artist residencies include the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida, Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in New York. Yip received his DMA at Rice University and his bachelor’s degree from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Yip is a member of SCI, NACUSA and ASCAP, and is currently on the music faculty at Houston Community College.

Ken Lam was Assistant Conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in 2008-2011 and has also guest conducted orchestras such as the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Also active in opera, he led acclaimed performances of Guo Wenjing’s Feng Yi Ting at the Spoleto and Lincoln Center Festivals in 2012. Lam studied conducting with Gustav Meier and Markand Thakar at Peabody Conservatory, David Zinman and Murry Sidlin at the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen and Leonard Slatkin at the National Conducting Institute.

She is currently the Coordinator in Performance Studies at the Hong Kong Baptist University Department of Music. Awards she has won included top prizes at the 12th Hong Kong (Asia) Piano Open Competition Open Class. She has given solo concerts and collaborated with famous conductors, including Yip Wing-sie, Takuo Yuasa, Neil Varon, Emil de Cou and Patrick Soulliot. Twice awarded scholarships by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, she obtained the Performer's Certificate (2007) and DMA (2010) at the Eastman School of Music. Her teachers include Poon Tak, Gabriel Kwok and Nelita True.

李嘉齡為香港小交響樂團2010/2011樂季駐團藝術家，過去曾與樂團出 訪南美洲及意大利。自2005年獲得波蘭第15屆蕭邦國際鋼琴大賽獎項 後，李嘉齡正式踏上國際舞台，曾參與波蘭國際蕭邦音樂節、德國麥森 鋼琴音樂節、紐約國際鍵琴音樂節及香港藝術節等，合作樂團包括BBC 威爾斯樂團、以色列愛樂、華沙愛樂、昆士蘭愛樂及匈牙利交響樂團。 李嘉齡師承黃懿倫教授，2003年獲獎學金往德國漢諾威音樂及戲劇學院 深造。曾獲獎項包括2003年第三屆Seiler國際鋼琴比賽冠軍、第15屆意 大利國際協奏曲比賽季軍及樂評和觀眾獎等。 Colleen Lee was Artist Associate of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta in 2010/2011 and was featured in the orchestra’s tours to the South America and Italy. Since winning the 6th Prize at the prestigious International Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2005, she has performed extensively around the world and has been featured at festivals including the International Chopin Festival in Poland, Pianoforte-Festival Meissen in Germany, International Keyboard Festival in New York and Bowdoin International Music Festival. Lee trained at The Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts under Eleanor Wong and at Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover under Arie Vardi. Prizes she has won included 1st Prize at the 3rd International Seiler Piano Competition in Germany, the 2003 Dorothy Mackenzie Artist Recognition Award.

Winner of the Eastman Concerto Competition, Sze has performed as a soloist with many orchestras including Texas Fort Worth Chamber Orchestra, Eastman Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. She is particularly active in chamber music and keen on promoting new music. She appears frequently on RTHK Radio 4 in recitals and has been featured in such festivals as Le French May and ISCM World Music Days. Sze is currently on the faculty of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Hong Kong Baptist University.

Her major credits include her performance with José Carreras in Beijing; her European début in Italy; performances in Verona and Cremona, Italy; Bach’s B Minor Mass and Haydn’s Creation under Helmuth Rilling; leading roles in La Bohème, Madama Butterfly and Roméo et Juliette; and performances with Opera Hong Kong, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Philharmonic and Hong Kong Arts Festival. Her concert repertoire includes the requiems of Brahms, Mozart, Verdi and Fauré, and major choral works by Bach, Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Bruckner and Mahler. Ip graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.

譚天樂畢業於倫敦皇家音樂學院及香港演藝學院。他曾於本地及海外歌劇 中擔任要角，包括《賈尼．斯基基》、《塞維爾的理髮師》、《女人心》、 《愛情靈藥》、《杜蘭朵》等。獨唱演出包括巴赫、莫扎特、貝多芬、 萊．韋伯、契爾葛特、韓德爾及奧爾夫的作品。在2000年的法國五月藝術 節，他獲邀與法國女高音伊利沙伯．維度及香港小交響樂團合作演出， 亦曾參與2002及2013年香港藝術節。譚天樂現為香港歌劇院合唱總監、 香港演藝學院合唱團指揮及其聲樂導師，亦於香港兒童合唱團任教。 Opera singer, conductor and composer Alex Tam graduated from the Opera Course at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) in London and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA). His operatic engagements have included leading roles in Gianni Schicchi, The Barber of Seville, Così fan Tutte, L’Elisir d’Amore, Turandot and many others. His concert repertoire includes Haydn’s Creation, Bach’s Mass in B minor and Mozart’s Mass in C with Helmuth Rilling, other works by Bach, Beethoven, Lloyd Webber, Mozart, Handel, Carl Orff and Bob Chilcott. In 2000 Le French May, he was invited to give a duo concert with the French soprano Elisabeth Vidal and Hong Kong Sinfonietta. He also participated in the 2002 and 2013 Hong Kong Arts Festival. Tam currently conducts the Opera Hong Kong Chorus, HKAPA Choir and Hong Kong Children’s Choir. He is also a voice teacher at The HKAPA.

連皓忻2013年於第32屆貝弗迪爾國際聲樂比 賽香港分站中勝出，參加於荷蘭阿姆斯特丹舉 行之決賽周，也曾於意大利及日本舉行的國際 音樂比賽中獲獎。她在多個國際及本地的歌劇 製作演唱女中音角色，包括《卡門》、《塞爾 斯》、《塞維爾的理髮師》、《玫瑰騎士》、《費 加羅的婚禮》等。連皓忻亦經常演唱藝術歌 曲，又於神劇及室樂演出擔任獨唱，曾合作的樂團包括波士頓愛樂、亞 斯彭交響樂團、新加坡愛樂等。 Carol Lin is one of the leading mezzosopranos in Hong Kong. In 2013, she won the regional round of the 32nd International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition and participated in the final rounds in Amsterdam. Lin has sung the principal roles from productions by local and international opera companies including Carmen, Serse, The Barber of Seville, Der Rosenkavalier and Le Nozze di Figaro. She has also performed with Boston Philharmonic, Aspen Sinfonia, The Philharmonic Orchestra Singapore, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Philharmonic and RTHK.

黃日珩於美國加州大學洛杉磯分校畢業，獲頒音樂碩士銜，專研聲樂， 師承徹爾諾夫及干狄。他亦於德國柏林隨高斯達洛古勞進修聲樂。曾演 出的歌劇包括《艾拔賀寧》、《仲夏夜之夢》、《羅密歐與朱麗葉》、2013 年香港藝術節歌劇《蕭紅》世界首演，亦曾演唱主要的聖樂曲目。他曾 與奧明、柏林保、雷辛約、瑞霖及洛凡西等指揮家合作。黃日珩曾奪得 棕櫚泉歌劇協會聲樂比賽冠軍，獲頒柏薩迪納歌劇協會獎學金，並在意 大利威尼斯歌劇院作歐洲首演。 Apollo Wong received his education in vocal studies at the University of California at Los Angeles under the supervision of Vladimir Chernov and Juliana Gondek. He has also studied with Sami Kustaloglu in Berlin. Wong has sung operatic roles in Albert Herring and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Roméo et Juliette, 2013 Hong Kong Arts Festival’s world première production of Heart of Coral . He has collaborated with conductors such as Paolo Olmi, Renato Palumbo, Joseph Rescigno, Helmuth Rilling and François-Xavier Roth. Wong has won the 1st prize in Palm Springs Opera Guild Vocal Competition and the Pasadena Opera Guild Vocal Scholarship. He made his European début at Teatro La Fenice’s Sale Apollinee, Venice, Italy.
