Because it’s not just the things you do, the places you visit and the new friends you meet that make them special. It’s the memories you take away with you. At Hoburne Holidays, we’ve been creating those memories for over a hundred years. And year after year, generation after generation, families come back to us to live them all over again. We’re a family company ourselves, and we’ve invested our lives in making sure every family that visits us has an unforgettable time. You can see it in the wonderful coastal and countryside locations we’ve chosen for our 8 unique holiday parks. In the fantastic facilities, from the play areas and pools (indoors and out) to the cafés, restaurants and evening entertainment. And, of course, in the superbly equipped caravans and lodges you retire to, tired and happy, at the end of every day. Ready to start making holiday memories that last for ever? THE
Hoburne story It all began at 2pm on Tuesday May 7th, 1912. The particulars were read out in the London Auction Room and bidding began. One man more than anyone else in the room wanted ‘Hubborn Farm’. John Burry, a man in his late 40s, had been the tenant farmer there for 14 years. With the passing of owner Admiral Sir Ashton Gore Curzon Howe (whose elder sister was the great-great-grandmother of Diana, Princess of Wales) came his chance to become a landowner. He took it – and the Hoburne Holiday Parks story was born.
The Hoburne Story
1912 was a momentous year - not just for John Burry, but for the world. Robert F Scotts’ team lost their lives in the Antarctic and the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank. The growing popularity of caravanning at home, on the other hand, went largely unnoticed. Yet more and more people were being swept up by this new pastime, attracted by the freedom of a ‘house on wheels’ with

all the home comforts. The First World War put a temporary halt to such carefree pursuits. But when the war ended, commercial caravan production and a glut of army surplus trailers ushered in another surge in popularity among people of all backgrounds. Now all they needed was somewhere to pitch their caravan. And where better than the flat, green fields of Hubborn Farm, where the seaside was on the doorstep and families had all the space they needed?
The 1930s. Boom time for the holiday camp. As we entered the 1930s, Britain was introduced to the idea of the organised holiday camp and embraced it with enthusiasm. Billy Butlin opened his first site in Skegness in 1936, complete with a theatre, gymnasium, a lake and tennis courts. Hubborn and Naish were growing in popularity too, with holidaymakers flocking to pitch their caravans there and a variety of makeshift holiday homes made from old buses and railway carriages sprouting up around the edges of the field.
1920 Naish farm. The next step. Embracing his new life as a landowner, John Burry added to his property empire in 1920, snapping up nearby Naish Farm when plans by a Dutch purchaser to build an aerodrome and wireless station on the site fell through. Like Hubborn Farm, Naish was a perfect spot for caravanners. Soon it was attracting them in their droves, along with requests to put up temporary bungalows on the site – the beginnings of the holiday park we see today.
One frequent visitor, Maureen Worthington, remembers those days fondly: “I first came to Naish when I was three or four years old in the early 1930s. I grew up there really. A chip van used to come around… it had a bell on it and when it rang, people came flooding across the field. They were the best chips I ever tasted.” But those carefree times weren’t to last. As the shadows of war started to grow across Europe once again, Naish and other holiday parks like it were given over to the military or used as emergency accommodation for families bombed out of their own homes by the blitz.

1950s Rock n’ Roll… and Bashley makes 3! As Britain slowly recovered from the ravages of the Second World War, a leisure-starved public flocked to seaside holiday parks once again. Butlins had a rival in the shape of Pontins, with even bigger, better plans. And at Hoburne (as it was now known) and Naish Farm, change was also in the air. Farming fields at Hoburne had been turned over permanently to touring caravans of all shapes and sizes. There was now an office and a shop onsite, baths and proper plumbing and drainage.
1960s. The Golden Age of caravanning. Affordable cars and a booming economy spelt a golden era for caravan touring in the 1960s. In 1965 alone, nearly 5 million touring holidays were taken in the UK. At Naish, hinting at the shape of things to come, a small number of chalets went on sale, looking remarkably like the caravans and lodges of today. Then in 1959, determined to build on his father’s legacy, Alec Burry spotted an auction notice for Bashley Lodge and 115 acres of grounds in the New Forest. After a closely fought bidding war, and as Elvis Presley and the sounds of Rock n’ Roll gripped the nation, Bashley became the third park in the Hoburne estate.
6
HOBURNE HOLIDAYS 2019
New caravan designs were introducing new levels of comfort and throughout the decade, the Burry family made improvements to their three holiday parks to meet the rising expectations of holidaymakers. A new heated pool and clubhouse extension at Bashley. An outdoor pool, play area, a social club and tennis courts for Naish. At the same time, a growing number of fixed pitch caravans were being made available to rent and buy on all three Hoburne sites.
With the rise in cheap package deals abroad, the 1970s was a difficult decade for the UK holiday industry. But by giving families exactly what they wanted and constantly investing in their parks, Hoburne Holidays bucked the trend and continued to grow.
It was a decade of investment that saw improvements at every one of the parks, culminating in a new children’s indoor pool, refurbished outdoor pool and new fitness room, sauna and steam room at Hoburne Naish in 2009. A far cry from the basic facilities of 80 years before!
The Hoburne Story
1970s and beyond. Challenging times ahead.
Caravanning. A century long success story. Today, caravan and lodge holidays are as popular as they’ve ever been. In fact, probably more so. In these uncertain times, there’s a renewed interest in ‘staycation’ family holidays, and the caravan holiday park business is booming because of it. In such a climate, the first class locations, accommodation, facilities and welcome make Hoburne among the most popular, with more and more regular visitors coming back year after year to relive their perfect family holiday with us.
Artist’s impression.
Grange Court, now Hoburne Devon Bay, was bought in 1977. In 1979, Hoburne Cotswold, close to Britain’s largest water park, opened its doors to holidaymakers.
Looking forward.
Neither did the 1980s show any sign of a slowdown, as Blue Anchor in 1985 and Doublebois in 1987 joined the Hoburne family. The company finished the decade with 5 Rose Awards for the quality of its parks from the National Tourist Board. The highest ever awarded to one group.
Into a new century. In 2002, the running of Hoburne Holidays was passed on to the fourth generation of the Burry family. With the new team came a new look for the Hoburne brand and a new approach to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Interior designers were brought in to oversee a ten year upgrade to park facilities and clubhouses, bringing them in line with the expectations of a new generation of holidaymakers.
2019 sees the launch of a new venture for Hoburne in the shape of Hoburne St Mabyn – a small collection of purpose-built luxury lodges in the peace and tranquility of north Cornwall and a true ‘back to nature’ base for enjoying the unspoilt beauty of the surrounding countryside. And after that, who knows...? The world has changed a lot since John Burry sat down in that auction room over a hundred years ago. For instance, holiday companies today are far more sensitive to environmental issues than they ever were in previous decades. That’s why we’ve set up fun educational activities and nature trails at some of our parks to teach our younger guests about the countryside around them. None of us can predict what challenges lie around the corner. But one thing’s for sure. By sticking to our values of quality, fairness and honesty, and by continuing to improve our parks and facilities, Hoburne holidays will be creating precious holiday memories for generations to come.

The Hoburne Difference
THE
Hoburne Difference Hoburne Holidays is a family business. And our business is giving families a fantastic time on holiday. That shows itself in all sorts of small ways that add up to one big difference: The Hoburne Difference. You’ll hear it in the helpful, friendly manner of our bookings team when you call. In the warmth of the welcome when you arrive. In the countless number of ways the staff on our parks work to make your stay as enjoyable and memorable as it can be. And of course in the quality and standard of our facilities and accommodation.
Staying true to our values for over 100 years Behind the Hoburne Difference lies four generations of commitment to honesty, integrity and fairness stretching back to the purchase of our very first site in 1912. Since then, we’ve always been guided by those principles, making sure we reinvest in our parks to provide the best quality locations, accommodation, facilities and customer care. And, of course, true all-round value for money. We’re also proud of our role as a local business supporting the local area. Our parks are located in some of the most accessible and beautiful parts of south west England, but they’re more than just a great base for a memorable family holiday. Over the years, they’ve become an integral part of the community.
Enjoy contemporary and stylish clubhouses.
Wherever possible, we recruit and train locally, with some members of staff spending their entire careers with us. We actively promote local attractions and events and encourage our suppliers and guests to think and act with respect for the countryside around us to preserve their beauty for generations to come.
Trust us to get it right for you For us, acting with fairness and respect is simply second nature. It’s something we’ve always done, and something we’ll keep on doing in the future. For you, it’s a guarantee that we’ll always do our best to make sure your holiday lives up to your expectations, and that you can trust us to give you the best possible deal. That’s why so many families return again and again, year after year, to experience the Hoburne Difference.

Your perfect Hoburne holiday
MAKE IT THE
perfect holiday for everyone We’ve never believed that old saying ‘you can’t please everybody’. As far as we’re concerned, you should be able enjoy your holiday exactly the way you want, whether you’re a tiny tot, a couple, mum and dad or a grandparent. That’s why you’ll find plenty of options for everyone, whatever they’re looking for. Take a look at all the facilities and activities available and see which ones make it your perfect holiday.
Children
Couples
The most important little people of all. If they’re happy, everybody’s happy! But there’s a big difference between what keeps a three year old entertained and how teenagers like to spend their time. So we’ve made sure all ages are catered for, on all of our parks. Soft play areas and safe adventure playgrounds for younger kids. Sporting activities like archery and kayaking for young adults. Even breaks designed especially for tiny tots.
If it’s just the two of you, you’ll have all the time in the world to relax and enjoy one another’s company. And to make your break even more special, there are any number of ways to unwind. Book one of our special hot tub caravans or lodges and you can slip into your own private spa together and take in the view across the sundeck. Or take a soothing sauna or steam room session and feel all your worries just melt away.
Families Your holiday is all about spending precious time together and enjoying all the things families don’t normally get to do for the rest of the year. Like sitting down for a meal together at one of our Brasserie 1912 restaurants. Getting dad to show off his dance moves at one of our live music entertainment nights. Enjoying a team cycle ride in the country. Or just relaxing in your holiday caravan for the evening and letting bed times slide a little because… well, you’re on holiday after all.
Lakeside walks at Hoburne Cotswold.
Dogs welcome There’s no need to leave your four legged friend at home while you’re on your holiday – dogs go free with Hoburne Holidays! All our parks offer a selection of dog friendly accommodation. With no extra charges, and with plenty of great walks surrounding all our parks, your dogs can join in on your adventures wherever you go.

Why limit yourself to summer? All our parks have everything you need to enjoy a break with the family, or just you and that someone special, the whole year round. Winter breaks mean indoor heated pools and play areas that let you bask in tropical warmth while you look out over a winter wonderland. And if country walks are your thing, the hedgerows, forests and beaches often look their best with a crisp coating of frost or snow. As the days get warmer and the nights draw out in springtime, everything bursts into life. Cycling and walking are a pure pleasure, with trees, hedgerows and fields at their most vibrant and colourful. Summer means fun, fun, fun in the sun throughout the school holidays, with lots to do, new friends to make and long days out at the beach or by the pool. And autumn is an explosion of colour as the trees shed their leaves, spectacular sunsets paint the clouds red and our bonfire night celebrations light up the sky.

Hoburne Devon Bay
HOBURNE
Devon Bay Paignton, Devon People have been coming to holiday in South Devon for over 150 years. In fact, because the weather is so good and because it’s so popular with families, it’s known as the ‘English Riviera’. At Hoburne Devon Bay, you’ll be right at the heart of things, with a fantastic beach at Goodrington Sands close by, a string of picturesque fishing villages along the coast and bracing walks on Dartmoor if you’re feeling more adventurous. Even if you just spend a day on the decking by the heated outdoor pool, the focal point of this lively holiday park, you’ll still enjoy spectacular views across the surrounding countryside and coastline. At Hoburne Devon Bay, it’s all there waiting for you.

Enjoy your holiday at your own pace in this corner of the English Riviera The stylish and spacious hillside clubhouse and generous poolside decking area are where it all happens at Hoburne Devon Bay, with daily family activities and colourful outdoor changing huts, just like you’d see on the English Riviera of old. As this is one of the sunniest parts of the country, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to enjoy it. There aren’t many other places in the UK where you can sunbathe in the shadow of palm trees, after all! Even if the sun does take a holiday of its own from time to time, it won’t stop the fun. The indoor leisure pool and flume offers a whole world of water adventures for the kids, and there’s a soft play area where they can let off steam safely. Snacks, drinks and meals are available all day long at the onsite café and restaurant and, in the evening, there’s a packed programme of events and entertainments for the whole family to enjoy together.

Christchurch, Dorset The very first Hoburne holiday park to open its doors way back in 1912, Hoburne Park is still one of our most popular today. There’s so much going on, in the park itself and the surrounding area. Christchurch, a Saxon town with shops and riverside walks is just around the corner. Nearby Mudeford Quay is a favourite with windsurfers and paddleboarders, and Avon Beach is the perfect place to enjoy a traditional bucket and spade day. Bournemouth and the New Forest are also within easy reach from the park. Not to mention all the superb on-park facilities and attractions for the whole family. If you could pick the ideal spot at the centre everything that makes Dorset such a great holiday destination, then Hoburne Park is it.

Artist’s impression.
Peaceful, quiet & restful luxury lodge escapes They say distance lends enchantment. It must be true, because this part of Cornwall, so far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, is a truly magical place. There’s history and mythology in the shape of the haunting Tintagel Castle, legendary birthplace of King Arthur, and The Lost Gardens of Heligan, abandoned and overgrown since the First World War and only rediscovered in 1990.
Hideaway Loft
If food is your passion, there are countless ways to indulge. Cornwall is now well and truly on the culinary map and you’ll find every kind of eating experience here, from Michelin starred restaurants to traditional Cornish dishes featuring the most local of local produce and seafood plucked fresh from the ocean, straight onto your plate.
Hideaway Coastal
The Cornish coastline, of course, is famous for sheltered beaches, brooding cliffs and, more recently, its surfing. Some of the best waves in the UK are found here, with surfers travelling from all over the world to ride them. Or, if you prefer more gentle pursuits, there are traditional fishing villages and harbours to explore around almost every headland.
Hideaway Loft style.

Hideaway Country Coach house brick features and comfy armchairs give a true ‘escape to the country’ feel.
St Mabyn itself, a picturesque hilltop village centered around a welcoming 17th century pub, is just a short walk away, and Bodmin and Padstow only minutes by car. The perfect base for exploring everything Cornwall has to offer, from countryside and coast to hidden villages and historic monuments.

Booking Conditions 2019 1. General
6. Changing your Booking
Hoburne Limited (‘we/us’) acts as agent for the various Hoburne Group/Burry and Knight companies operating the individual parks and for private individual owners of holiday accommodation. When we accept your booking a binding contract will be made between the person making the booking together with all adult members of his or her party (‘you’) and the owner of the property for which the booking is made and incorporates the conditions set out below.
If you want to make a minor change to any of the details of your booking e.g. standard or changing the name of a member of your party, we will do our best to assist you, subject to availability. There will be no charge for minor changes.
In addition to these conditions the contract incorporates the information, guidance and other requirements contained in our current brochure. You are advised to read the relevant sections carefully before booking. Please note that no touring bookings will be accepted less than 24 hours before the intended holiday commencement date other than by agreement with the park General Manager.
2. Authority to Contract You certify that you are over the age of 18 years; and will be a member of the party occupying the holiday accommodation; and are authorised to agree these booking conditions on behalf of all members of your party so as to bind all of you by them and so that each of you shall be jointly and severally liable for your obligations under the contract.
3. Payment The contract is made only when your booking is accepted by us. On acceptance we will send you a booking confirmation form. We reserve the right to refuse any booking without explanation. We require a deposit of £50. If the value of the booking is under £50, then it must be paid in full at the time of booking. If the start date of your proposed holiday is less than 42 days from the date of booking, then the full payment is required at the time of booking. You must pay the balance (if any) of the cost of your holiday to us not less than 42 days before the commencement of the holiday. No reminders will be sent. If you do not pay any outstanding balance of the cost of your holiday by the due date (see above) we may treat you as having cancelled your booking. For the avoidance of doubt payment will only have been made under this contract when the monies have cleared into our bank account. You must allow for any reasonable delays in cheque clearance.
4. Cancellation If you wish to cancel your booking you should advise us immediately by telephone and then send us a confirmatory letter. We will incur additional administration costs when you cancel your booking and we may be unable to re-let the accommodation or pitch. 5. Cancellation by Us In exceptional circumstances beyond our control (e.g. damage, non-routine maintenance, flood, fire etc.), we may have to cancel your booking. If we do so we will tell you as soon as possible prior to your holiday date and you may either choose to receive a full refund or accept an alternative holiday with us at the brochure price but you will have no further claim against us. We also reserve the right to change your allocated accommodation or pitch either on arrival or during your stay, this will be to a similar or higher standard of accommodation or pitch.
