A Conversation with Tyler Thier
Adjunct Assistant Professor, Writing Studies and Rhetoric Hofstra University
Standard English has nefarious roots in imperialism, and Standard Academic English is no exception. These roots persist in scholarship – both professional and in the classroom – despite our increasingly multicultural, international, and interdisciplinary spaces. It is time to challenge this historical convention and explore what happens when collegiate writers loosen the constraints of academy-sanctioned citation, embrace multilingualism, and experiment with nontraditional approaches to presenting scholarship.
