Tops In The Nation: Senior guard Charles Jenkins (Queens, N.Y.) has more career points than any other active player in the nation with 2,162 though Jan. 16. He has a 70-point lead on second-place Andrew Goudelock of College of Charleston (see right).

Jenkins Fourth In Scoring: Senior guard Charles Jenkins has more career points than any player in the nation (2,162 – see above), and currently ranks seventh in the country this season with 23.2 points per game (through Jan. 16).

Last year, he ranked 20th in the country with 20.6 ppg.

Jenkins Named To Naismith Watch List: Senior guard Charles Jenkins was named to the preseason Naismith Trophy Watch List, it was announced in November by the Atlanta Tipoff Club. Jenkins was one of 50 players on the list, and one of only five players on the list from mid-major conferences. The Naismith Trophy is presented to the top player in NCAA Division I. Model Of Efficiency: Since the start of December (11 games), senior guard Charles Jenkins has averaged 24.1 points per game, while his efficiency has been simply off the charts. Jenkins has 265 points in that 11-game span on only 146 field goal attempts, including a 9-13 effort for 32 points against George Mason on Jan. 5. For the year, he is shooting almost 60 percent (.569) from the floor and almost 50 percent on three-pointers (.466). Jenkins has the third highest field goal percentage in the country among players who regularly shoot three-pointers (at least one 3FG made per game), and the two players in front of him are complementary scorers who average less than half as many points as Jenkins (see right).

Second Half’s The Charm: Senior guard Charles Jenkins had 23 of his 32 points against George Mason in the second half on Wednesday, Jan. 5, which is nothing new. For the season, Jenkins’ numbers go up substantially in the second half of games, when he averages 14.5 points (see right). He scored a career-high 40 points at Binghamton on Dec. 8, and 31 came in the second half alone. The one exception to the rule was against No. 8 North Carolina on Nov. 18, when 20 of his 24 points came in the first half (on 9-11 shooting).

Jenkins Moving Up Hofstra Charts...: Former guard Steve Nisenson (196265) held the Hofstra scoring record for 43 years (2,222 points) before it was finally broken by Antoine Agudio (2004-08), who finished with 2,276 points.

However, Agudio probably won’t get to hold the record for nearly as long as Nisenson did. Senior guard Charles Jenkins currently has 2,162 points, just 114 points shy, and would reach the mark by averaging only nine points per game the rest of the regular seasn. That’s an easy task - Jenkins has been in double figures in 42 straight games and in 106 of 112 games in his career. …And The CAA’s Too: Hofstra senior guard Charles Jenkins is now sixth in Colonial Athletic Association history in career scoring (see right). Jenkins has an outside chance of challenging David Robinson’s CAA scoring record of 2,669 points, although it would take a strong finish and several postseason games in the CAA Tournament and beyond. More likely, he will pass Carlos Yates (George Mason, 1981-85) at 2,420 points and finish second in league history behind The Admiral (if he stays healthy).

Jenkins Moving Up Other Charts: In addition to his scoring numbers, senior guard Charles Jenkins also ranks among Hofstra’s all-time leaders in assists, steals and three-pointers as well. He currently ranks fifth in assists (411), fifth in steals (188), and eighth in three-pointers (148). He is one of only two players in school history (along with Speedy Claxton) to record 2000 points, 500 rebounds and 400 assists.

Jenkins Wins Second Haggerty: Senior guard Charles Jenkins won his second Haggerty Award as the top player in the New York metropolitan area last April at the annual Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association banquet, becoming only the ninth player in the 77-year history of the award to win it more than once. Only two players have won three Haggerty Awards: Jim McMillian of Columbia (1968-70) and Chris Mullin of St. John’s (1983-85), and Jenkins can join that exclusive list if he wins the honor again this year.
