INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT STUDIES
IBMS is a broad management study programme in English, covering all aspects of international business and management. IBMS prepares students for professional careers in international companies. Based on a combination of elements from the fields of marketing, sales, finance, and management, the programme has a special focus on international trade and commerce. Do you want to study in an international environment and gain practical experience at international companies? During this 4 year study programme you will work with classmates from all over the world. You will also have the opportunity to gain international experience through a placement (abroad), and a study-abroad semester at one of our partner universities. The profile of the IBMS student is based on competencies defined after intensive consultation with the business world and society concerning the knowledge, skills and attitude needed by future managers. The IBMS graduate is aware of international economic developments and the effects they have on the international organisation. Competent in intercultural leadership, analysis, creative problem solving, and planning, IBMS graduates are highly sought after around the world for positions such as Marketing Manager, Consultant, Area Manager, Financial Controller and Sales Manager.
analysis, group discussions and professional literature provide the basis for applying the principles learned. You learn to think like a general manager rather than a marketer, accountant or finance expert. You also study a second language: Spanish, French, Dutch or German.
Main Phase The second year combines in-depth international business subjects with electives relating to your chosen field of study. You will learn to think strategically and receive training in communication, negotiation and leadership skills. The third year starts with a placement period at a company or organisation in the Netherlands or abroad, after which you will complete the first part of your chosen major. The fourth year comprises a one semester study-abroad period at one of our partner schools and a graduation placement researching a business-related problem for a company.

I did my placement at Syntens and was quite successful at an international horticultural fair. Looking back, I can conclude that I have learned a lot. I got plenty of space: designing the set up for such a project, deciding which steps to take. Organising the stand, putting the company profiles on the website and contacting companies proved to be quite a challenge. I also managed to acquire some nice new jobs. Tomorrow I am flying to Spain for a couple of weeks. At a major fair I am going to contact some Spanish companies. According to my placement supervisor, my success lies largely in my independence. I started with the fair, but I recognised the opportunity to do more research in Spain. Using these opportunities is very important! Maurits Versteeg, third year IBMS student
Bachelor Programme IBMS Accelerated track We also offer a 1.5 or 2 year Accelerated IBMS programme for students who have already obtained a 2 or 3 year college degree in business or have finished either 2 or 3 years at University (business related). Students with a minimum of 1 year of work experience after finishing 2 or 3 years of studying can apply for the 1.5 year programme. Students without relevant work experience are required to take a 6 month placement after completing the 1.5 year programme.
My placement consisted of one month training in Kuala Lumpur, before moving to Singapore to work on a plan to generate more sales, sell more memberships, create brand awareness, attract events, cut costs and improve recruitment. Christiaan Smeehuijzen, third year IBMS student
