The International manager of tomorrow is studying at Rotterdam Business School today. More than 30,000 students are currently working on their professional careers at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. Over 2,500 of these students are enrolled in (English-taught) international business programmes at Rotterdam Business School. Business is what it is all about at Rotterdam Business School. Education, business placements, educational exchange programmes and practical research projects are all aimed at preparing our students for a career in international business. Real-life business cases provided by (international) companies are at the heart of many courses. They challenge our students to learn to act quickly and decisively, and to base their decisions on growing experience and healthy reflection. Just like in the world of business, our focus is fully international. Over 50 nationalities are represented amongst our student population. We work closely with partners in the business and education communities in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas to offer our students the global outlook and experience they need to succeed.
Who are our students? International Business and Management Studies students are upcoming business experts, with specialisations in fields such as Finance and Accounting, Logistics, Risk Management, Human Resources Management and Marketing. Students of International Business and Languages are language experts in training, with a thorough knowledge of marketing. Besides English, they study 2 European languages (French, German or Spanish). Students of Trade Management for Asia are the future Asia-specialists. As well as learning about doing business in and with Asia, they also study an Asian language such as Mandarin or Japanese. Students in the Master programmes take their knowledge to the next level, to become specialists in the areas of Logistics Management, Consultancy and Entrepreneurship, Finance and Accounting or Business Administration.
Examples of Cooperation International Business and Management Studies (Placement) “My assignment included sales, marketing and events for Citygolf Singapore. I made a plan to generate more sales, sell more memberships, create brand-awareness, attract more events, cut costs and improve recruitment. During my placement I developed new marketing campaigns. I also analysed the company’s costs and made recommendations as to how they could use their network to facilitate recruitment. The new marketing campaigns led to a growth in sales and memberships, a rise in brand-awareness and the number of events.” Christiaan, IBMS student
International Business and Languages (Project) “In the second year we set up our own import company and imported a unique product from China - an umbrella in a bottle. We followed all the steps that a “real” import company would undertake: building capital, finding shareholders, sourcing a product and a reputable supplier, doing market research, selling our products to maximise profits and ultimately generate a dividend and liquidate the company!” Sebastiaan, IBL student Trade Management for Asia (Graduation assignment) “For my graduation assignment I investigated the possibilities for the Municipality of Pernis to establish a partnership with the Chinese city of Maoming. I researched the organisation of the civil administration of both Pernis and Maoming and the demographic, economic, social, cultural, technological and ecological developments in both cities. I explored ways in which the cities could work together and the predicted costs associated with such a partnership. The end report gave the district council a clear idea of what a partnership between these two cities would involve and which steps would need to be taken in order to actually consider the city of Maoming as a partner.” Tjun Kit, TMA graduate Master in Logistics Management (Project) “I investigated the possibilities for boosting the total throughput of the Port of Rotterdam through the import of fresh and frozen perishable produce from China. To do this I needed to analyse the market trade from China to Rotterdam, confirm the main players in China, and analyse the logistics and supply chain situation in Chinese ports. The biggest challenge was predicting the trade volumes and capacities in terms of perishable food products.” Samier, Master in Logistics Management Master in Consultancy and Entrepreneurship (Project) “Together with my classmates I conducted research for one of the largest waste collection and treatment service providers in Lithuania. Together we analysed their business from all angles. We came up with a new business model for the company which focuses on renting the capability and capacity from recycling enterprises, in order to maintain and add value on products and processes and also enhance competitiveness.” Sarah, Master in Consultancy and Entrepreneurship Contact External Relations Office Rotterdam Business School Kralingse Zoom 91 3063 ND Rotterdam The Netherlands beb-rbs@hr.nl +31 (0)10 - 794 62 64
Master in Finance and Accounting (Project) “The main focus of my international project was investigating the market for wooden picture frames in the Netherlands and advising a company in Croatia about the feasibility of extending their business to the Dutch market. As we needed many specialisations to complete the project, I worked together with students of Consultancy & Entrepreneurship and Logistics Management so we could offer the best advice to the company.” Audrey, Master in Finance and Accounting
