INSHORE TROLLING
by hogylureco
Trolling is often the most effective technique when fish are scattered in open water or holding over large stretches of structure. BUT Inshore trolling often gets a bad wrap as being “un-fun” due to the use of heavy gear and as a low-brow mindless technique I couldn’t disagree more! Not the way I approach trolling anyway.
Hogy System Trolling:
Tactical: I troll when I see it as the most effective method Think slow trolling tubes for big striped bass in August Or high-speed trolling sliders for scattered Atlantic Bonito…
Interactive: I DO NOT just set it and forget it You could argue my brand of trolling is a hybridized jigging technique. On my boat, inshore outfits are in the angler’s hands When we stop on fish marks on the finder- anglers put reels in free spool and often high-speed crank to elicit strikes We often jig the rods when trolling LIGHT: No wire line outfits on my boat! Light braid. Sometimes some trolling weights My trolling outfits are soft, happy, and fun to use They also double as jigging outfits for deep water jigging for big stripers and groundfish
My inshore trolling lure collection consists of a tube kit and repurposing of plugs like sliders, jigs like the Hogy Epoxy Jig Lures and paddle tail softbaits like our Pro Tail paddles
