2 RAMS LIVE FOR MARCH Editor's note
Greetings fellow Knights and fellow Aries! That’s right everybody, it’s time to celebrate all things Aries from now until mid April. Being an Aries myself, I find the description to be shockingly accurate. An Aries is of course the ram and as my mom says I tend to “ram myself into other people’s business.” Thanks mom! Typically an Aries is independent, passionate, and generous. Sounds pretty good right? On the other hand, an Aries can be moody, short-tempered, and impulsive. I don’t necessarily see being impulsive as a bad thing. I see it more as being spontaneous and adventurous. Typical Aries… getting all defensive. That description really gets me.
Since my birthday is March 22nd, I’ve been told that I’m a partial Pisces due to my birthday falling dangerously close to the Pisces cutoff. How accurate is Pisces to my personality? I’d say pretty freaking close. I’m definitely compassionate and imaginative, but one hundred percent indecisive and oversensitive. I suppose all astrology signs match some part of everyone’s personality at times, but it’s nonetheless fun to believe. I’m not sure if it’s just me and my birthday, but I’m starting to notice more and more March birthdays. It makes me wonder if we really do surround ourselves with people similar to
ourselves. It would certainly make a lot of sense. Birds of a feather flock together? More like astrology signs alike tend to hang out. Not as creative, but whatever.

I usually hate birthdays. All the attention, the incessant Facebook notifications, my mother telling me the gross story of my birth. I could do without it all, but keep the presents because presents are amazing. However this birthday is a little different because it is my golden birthday! Your golden birthday is “supposed” to be the best year of your life. Not sure who invented such a wild idea, but superstitions are cool nonetheless. For all of you who were under the age of ten for your “golden birthday” i’m deeply sorry. If you’re really truly interested in whether or not there’s any truth behind the “golden birthday” check back with me in 367 days, and i’ll let you know. Besides for all those independent, passionate, and annoying rams celebrating their birthdays this month, March is full of great weather and spring break recovery. Enjoy this beautiful month and countdown until summer when the real relaxation starts.

jaw and show off his perfectly sculpted abs while he’s pouring shots. He’s every Spring Break girl’s dream, but that is all he will ever be. He’s untouchable behind his bar of greatness. In a week, you’ll be sitting in class and he will be flipping bottles and smiling at a new group of hot girls in bikinis. 2.

The guy fresh off a break up
He will flirt with you all night and talk about how awesome the single life is. He’s actually really nice because he just got out a relationship and his mind is still programmed for “boyfriend mode”. However, after one to many beers he completely loses it and rants about how women are terrible creatures. You should probably cut him off at this point because if he continues to drink he will start to get depressed and even cry about how much he misses “her”. 3.
The local guy
This guy knows all of the local hot spots and will tell you were to meet him up later that night for the best happy hour. He’s effortlessly cool as he punches his number into your phone and promises to catch up with you later. Later that night when you and your girlfriends show up at the bar he suggested, you will find that he’s surrounded by at least 3 other groups of girls that he told the exact same thing to. 4.
Whether you’re going to the snowy mountains of Colorado or the sunny beaches of Cozumel, every Spring Break has a few things in common: alcohol, freedom, and a lot of people from different schools. All three of those things create an insane (and boarder line illegal) environment that allows, if not encourages, the most unbelievable things to happen. Girls have been dieting, tanning and hitting the gym since December to fit into that $100 piece of cloth that we call a Victoria’s Secret bathing suit. One reason we put all of that effort into looking our best is so that we can look awesome while sipping Mai Tai’s on a beach. However, the main reason we do it is so we can catch the attention of one of the many boys that ventured to the same Spring Break destination. Let’s face it, we see the same boys on our campus all the time. Yes we’re excited for the fruity drinks, white sand beaches, and a week off from school, but the thing that really gets us hyped up is the well-known fact that a plethora of new boys is in our future. It’s a whole new pool of boys and we can’t wait to dive in headfirst. Floaties are optional and I’ll probably be doing a cannon ball. Here are the 6 guys that you will definitely meet this Spring Break: 1.
The bartender
He’s been mixing your drinks and listening to your off key singing all week. He has this adorable half smile and a wink that makes you melt. He lifts up his shirt to wipe his chiseled
The arrogant hot guy from another school
Probably my favorite character to encounter on Spring Break. He is there for one reason only: to get with as many girls as possible during the week. He’s loud and obnoxious. He’s most likely in a frat and he’s got the biggest arms you’ve ever seen. If you’re one of the girls that he sets his sights on, beware. If you’re not, just grab a beer, sit back, and watch him work because it is nothing short of entertaining. 5.
The guy that goes to your school and always secretly loved you
It might be a combination of the tequila and romantic EDM music blaring in the bar, but for whatever reason this guy is going to spill his heart and soul for you around night 3 of Spring Break. It will take you by surprise at first, but then you’ll think about all those nights he drove you home or watched you cry about your ex and it will all make sense. If you feel the same way then congrats! Meet your next boyfriend. If you don’t, just offer to buy the next shot as a thank you and pretend it didn’t happen tomorrow. 6.
The compulsive liar
One night he’s an up and coming DJ, the next he’s a pre med student that is going to be a brain surgeon. He will say pretty much anything to get your attention and once he has it, he will create the most interesting and unbelievable stories to keep it. It’s fun for like 20 minutes. Clearly there are a lot of options. Some worse than others, but hey, it’s slim pickings for a single girl on Spring Break. Whichever guy you choose is bound to make your vacation way more fun. Personally, I’ve got my eyes set on the bartender. You know what they say; everything gets hotter when the sun goes down.

4 DAYS AT BONNAROO
Here’s every reason ever why you should go to Bonnaroo. Bonnaroo is the leader in today’s top music festivals. Forty-five years ago, Woodstock made a huge splash in the music industry by uniting over half a million people for a three day celebration of peace, love, and most importantly, music. The festival was a mere dream for John Roberts and Joel Rosenman until coming to life on a six hundred acre farm in 1969. Woodstock set the build for all the hundreds of music festivals strewn about the world today, but there’s one festival thats stands tall amongst the rest. In 2002, Woodstock met a fierce competitor, The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. Since Woodstock, music festivals of all kinds have popped up all over the world in attempt to bring people together and celebrate music. There are music festivals held on beaches, in deserts, and in the middle of metropolitan cities, but none quite like Bonnaroo. Music festivals of all kinds have been a hobby of mine for some time now, but the one I find impossible to deny year after year is none but Bonnaroo. The annual four day festival is held early June in Manchester, Tennessee. Bonnaroo attracts musicians of all kinds to it’s lavish farm. Anyone from Beatle icon Paul McCartney, to rap crew Wu Tang Clan, to DJ genius Tiesto, has played the festival. Not to mention the bunch of smaller bands who are given the honor of sharing the lineup with rock icons of all kinds. It’s simple, Bonnaroo doesn’t discriminate. Big or small, rap or pop, if you’re a talented musician Bonnaroo will find you. Similar to Woodstock, Bonnaroo is also held on a vast farm consisting of seven hundred beautifully green acres, which was purchased by Bonnaroo owners, Superfly Productions, in 2007. This aspect sets Bonnaroo apart from most other music festivals. The fact that Superfly owns the land where they host the festival every year, means that the venue never changes. It’s this very reason that gives Bonnaroo a sense of “home” for music lovers who come back every summer. Not only does the venue never change, but certain details of the festival stay the same year after year. For one, Bonnaroo is home to five tremendous stages cleverly titled “Which,” “What,”
“That,” “This,” and “Other.” The stage names have a “Who’s on first?” feel for all who attend the festival. At times it can get confusing, but it’s details like theses that only add to the eccentricity of Bonnaroo. Zeta Tau Alpha Another aspect of the festival Cassie is a junior studying Englishthat remains unchanged creative writing. You may contact year after year is the giant her at cwilk92@knights.ucf.edu. ceramic mushroom shaped fountain that is built into the foundation of the farm. Located in the heart of Bonnaroo, the fountain not only spews out water from dusk till dawn, but also gets a makeover and is repainted every single year to match the attitude of the festival. The fountain is home to countless hippies who find it freeing to frolic around the fountain while their favorite musicians play in the background. Not to mention, the fountain makes for an amazing photo op.
CASSIE WILKINSON
When it comes to Bonnaroo, there are many different ways to make your three night stay just the way you like it. The festival offers various housing arrangements to fit needs of all kinds. It’s possible to sleep in a lavish RV in a segregated section just for recreational vehicle fans and it’s even possible to sleep in a swanky hotel room just a few miles away (not to mention the shuttle service that transports all hotel sleepers to and from the festival). However if you’re the lowest of low maintenance and want an insane experience that’ll make you praise the plumbing gods, camping is where you need to be. Camping is a very broad term to use. There’s rustic camping where you are forced to hunt your own food and wipe with leaves and there’s “Disney” camping which isn’t really camping at all. Bonnaroo’s camping is right in the middle of that. Do you need a tent? Yes. Do you need to hunt? No. Are there bathrooms on site? Well… define bathroom. Upon arriving to Bonnaroo’s campsites, cars are searched for glass and forbidden items. Then you are lead to your section and encouraged to build a campsite using nothing but your car and the materials you’ve brought for survival aka lawn chair, tent, and coolers. Each section of the Bonnaroo

than a young festival that’s only been happening for two or three years. Everything from their camping, to their set times, and basic layout of the festival is easy to understand. The tickets are wristbands that are scanned when you enter and leave the festival site, so fans don’t have to worry about losing hard copy tickets. I swear they’ve thought of everything. When it comes to additional comfort, Bonnaroo has thought of everything from golf cart rides to and from your camp site to free water. Want to take a break from the music? No problem. Bonnaroo hosts it’s very own beer garden called “The Broo’ers Festival” in the heart of all the excitement. Bonnaroo also offers various classes to take such as hula hooping, gardening, and break dancing. Sick and tired of grilling hot dogs everyday by your tent? Why not check out Bonnaroo’s very own “Food Truck Oasis?” A vast field filled with various food trucks to satisfy your pallet past it’s wildest dreams. Bonnaroo is focused around the music, yes, but it also works very hard to meet the needs of every single person who steps on their grounds. 2014 will be Bonnaroo’s twelfth year on farm and with the recent release of their lineup, they promise not to disappoint. This year Bonnaroo welcomes acts such as Kanye West, Slightly Stoopid and the ever amazing SIR Elton John. With Kanye West’s recent tour being a theatrical performance leaving all attendees stunned, we can only expect big over the top things from the man who brought us “Yeezus.” Yes, the headliners are impressive, but Bonnaroo’s speciality is
campground is numbered so when night fall comes it’s not totally impossible to wander back to your tent. There are also hundreds of port-o-potties and “wash stations” scattered about the grounds for all your bodily needs. Bonnaroo camping may seem rustic with it’s minimal electricity and naturally heated port-opotties, but the real fun is the atmosphere. Camping at Bonnaroo is one big party with eighty thousand of your closest friends. It’s similar to a really long tailgate where everyone’s team wins. The beer flows like water with everyone celebrating their love for not only music, but the chance take a break from their everyday routine and catch some amazing performances for four days straight. There’s even an extremely tall skyscraper coo coo clock wrapped in LED lights that sits in the middle of the camp site. The coo coo clock goes off every hour on the hour and plays hysterically random songs. Even telling time is exciting at Bonnaroo. The biggest concern with Woodstock was the organization. Since Woodstock was the first of it’s kind, it was hard to expect or even predict the smallest of details. To put Bonnaroo and Woodstock into perspective, Bonnaroo is held on a farm that exceeds Woodstock’s acreage by over one hundred. Bonnaroo has had at most one hundred thousand guests, while Woodstock clocked in at around half a million. The numbers alone are enough to really open your eyes at the chaos that was Woodstock. Woodstock was historical and amazing, but chaotic. Bonnaroo has their festival down to a science because they’ve been creating and adding on to a festival that’s had twelve years to develop. A festival that has nearly every little detail figured out is difficult to come by. In fact, I’m sure Bonnaroo has kinks they need to work out year after year, but it’s much more organized
picking musicians who will most likely explode in the next few years. Vampire Weekend is an excellent example of just that. Vampire Weekend played Bonnaroo in 2008 when they had just one album out. They sat very low on the lineup, but played an insane show. Since then they’ve released two more albums and have toured all over the world. They’re now all ready to play Bonnaroo for the second time this coming summer. Bonnaroo really knows how to pick them. All in all, whether you love music or feel indifference it’s difficult to not appreciate the growth of the festival and all that it has to offer. We give credit to Woodstock for starting the music festival trend, but to Bonnaroo for breaking all barriers. The people at Superfly Productions have turned Bonnaroo into a landmark for music. So why not turn your summer vacation into a summer music festival? Four days of bliss and music. Sounds like a vacation to me.

Special Occasions: Spring Break
SPRING BREAK SURVIVAL GUIDE
It’s halfway through spring semester and you’re ready to trade in your books for a bathing suit and call it summer. Unfortunately for us, we have to stick it out for the rest of the semester, but on the bright side we are KAILEE SMITH blessed with something Zeta Tau Alpha called spring break. Spring break is the one time of year Kailee is a senior studying interpersonal organizational where a girl can prance communications. You may contact around half naked and her at kaileesmith21@aol.com. nobody can say anything about it. Okay sorry for the Mean Girls moment but let’s be real – spring break is the golden ticket to taking a break from all the stress from classes, internships, and jobs to just sit back and kick it with good vibes and great company. Since there is so much hype about spring break, we have to remember all the things that can make it successful or an epic fail. This is why I’ve created a fabulous set of guidelines for you to live by in order for you to survive your journey this year. 1. Remember to eat before you drink. This may seem really obvious but we all know we’ve been guilty of not eating enough, downing those 8 tequila shots, and later regretting it when we realize we don’t remember half the night’s events. You’ve been keeping a balanced diet for spring break anyway right? So why not continue to eat right and enough while you’re at your destination? 2. HYDRATE. I know water isn’t your choice of liquid to pour down your throat this spring break, but keep in mind, if you don’t hydrate yourself then you are asking for a hangover from hell. Water is equally your best friend alongside your favorite flavored vodka. Alternate throughout the day, this way you’re actually pacing yourself and you
www.theodysseyonline.com
won’t end up on the bar or floor. 3. Choose your clothing attire wisely. You’ve seen (or been) that girl at the bar wearing her stilettos or wedges and you’re either waiting for her to fall on her face or already witnessed it various times. It’s spring break. If you are of age, you are going to be drinking and if you’re under 21 then you’re probably going to get your fake ID taken away so sorry in advance. Make sure your outfit choice compliments your drinking habits. For example don’t wear white if you plan on challenging a frat star to a chugging competition or save the bandage skirt for a night you won’t be that girl on the bar. It’s simple as that. 4. Good vibes and good company are key. We all travel in massive groups to our destination. There is bound to be drama either prior to your getaway or right smack in the middle. Be the bigger person; make amends with whomever it is that you’ve been daydreaming about punching in the face. Seriously, is it worth it? Probably not. Wouldn’t you rather everyone get along and not have to deal with somebody drunk crying to you at the end of the night? Yes, the answer is yes. Are you getting it yet? 5. Don’t forget to be safe people. We all get a little bit crazy when we realize we have total freedom for a week and zero responsibilities. Don’t wander off with that random guy that promised you single, hot frat boys in his hotel room. He’s probably lying, and it’s probably going to end badly. Stay in groups of at least two and don’t wander a foreign place by yourself. To wrap this up, let’s get one thing straight – spring break is a time to be worry free and live it up but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Just because you should follow these guidelines doesn’t mean you shouldn’t let your hair down and party like it’s 1985, because believe me the 80’s were definitely where it was at. Soak up the sun and the alcohol for that matter, but make it a memorable break because if you’re a senior like me, there is no such thing as spring break in the real world. Party on.

If you’ve never heard of arena football, I’ll give you a quick run down; 50 yard field, surrounded by a wall, half the number of players, twice as much fun. I absolutely love arena football because it’s high speed, smaller, and has the same qualities of regular NFL football, but with the considerable size difference, the use of the wall gives it that hockey “wall hit” aspect to it. After an unfulfilled promise of a successful season last year and ample amount of bickering between the Predators and the Orlando Magic over marketing funds, the Orlando Predators have started their new season in the University of Central Florida’s very own CFE Arena. The Predators are expecting to turn things around, despite last season’s shortcoming. Their next home game will be against the L.A. KISS. The L.A. I love everything that has to do with nature, the entertainment industry, social media, health, reading, food and animals,” said Cole. Other blogs tend to be more specific. Morgan Snyder is studying abroad for the Spring semester in London. She started a blog to keep her family and friends back home updated on her travels and experiences abroad, but gave her blog the name “Spoonful of Sugar” so that she can continue to blog once she returns to Florida. One of the best parts about managing your own blog is that you are your own boss. You have no one to report to and you can post however frequently you want. “I love that my blog is completely mine. I can write whatever I want, whenever I want, and if people don’t want to read it, that’s fine too. I also love that each time I write a post I feel more and more connected to the blog,” said Snyder. Blogging is kind of like a relationship – you just put everything out there and wait to see what works and doesn’t,” said Cole. Fashion-based blogger, Rachel Whitton, admitted that she started her blog because she was tired of seeing other people be so successful at something that she’s passionate about. “I am hoping my blog becomes so successful that designers start sending me clothes to feature – but I’ve got a long ways to go before that!” said Whitton. The biggest thing to remember when you’re starting your own blog is to not be afraid. Although it may seem awkward or unfamiliar at first, it’s easy to catch on and get wrapped up in your blog. You can make your blog into whatever you want it to be and there’s no need to sweat the small stuff. “Once you stop nitpicking everything and really start writing, people will flock to it no matter what it looks like,” said Whitton. the coolest acts under the hottest sun right on the beach. Want to embark on a road trip with a few of your closest hippie friends? Go check out Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival and spend 4 days in the middle of a farm in Manchester, Tennessee. Perhaps you want to check out the mother of all festivals and journey out to Indio, California to attend Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Once you have it figured out how far away you want to venture in the midst of musical enlightenment, it’s important to figure out where you will be staying. You may have to spend a few extra dollars to reserve a hotel room out in Las Vegas, Nevada for any Headliners going to Electric Daisy Carnival: Vegas out there. However, for the more outdoorsy type, camping could potentially be an option. So go grab your EZ Up Canopies like all the Woodlanders up in Dover, Delaware going to Firefly Music Festival.
There’s a lot of different key factors you have to look at when choosing which festival you wish to frolic through for a few days. There’s the location, where you will be staying, and of course, the lineup.
The lineup is the foundation of any festival. It’s the initial draw and excitement that sends a flurry through the crowd to attend. It sometimes gets difficult to choose which festival to attend when the producers of the event like to tease their fans and not release the lineup until months after major festivals have been released (here’s looking at you Lollapalooza). You really have to know who your priority is to see this summer. So if you were expecting to see Outkast this summer, it may not help you make your decision since they will be headlining over 40 events in the next few months. However, some performers don’t tend to stop in town that often, making them a huge name to catch such as the one and only, Sir Elton John. After realizing who the most important artists coming by this summer are, take some time to listen to a few Spotify playlists. Odds are there’s a few undercard bands hiding on there that are just waiting to be your favorite set to catch this summer.
Location can be hugely influential in what musical land you’ll be exploring the summer. It depends on how grand of an adventure you want to embark on. If you want to stay somewhat close, there’s Big Guava Music Festival in Tampa. Are you ready to go a little bit out of your comfort zone and make a nice drive out of it? Head on up to Gulf Shores, Alabama to watch
No matter which festival you decide to attend, just make sure you get out there and leave the world behind. Its so easy to get caught up in the love of some sweet jams, good people, and the sense of adventure the journey will take you on. I guarantee you it will leave you begging for more. Now what more could you ask for as you count down the days until your last final?
Summer time brings up a flurry of memories that revolve around beach outings, pool days, and a sense of carefree bliss. However, now that you’re in college, it’s time to plan the next grand adventure and indulge in an experience that should be on every college students bucket list. Ladies and gents, pack up your tents and chacos. It’s time to go to a music festival. Summer is the prime time for the top music festivals to occur all throughout the nation. The only problem is, how do you pick which one to go to?
