the experience in large or small ways. These graphic threads get picked up on a visceral level and become cues that shape the experience. We use journey mapping to analyze a typical experience in a given project. It helps to identify opportunities and gaps in the experience. And we develop message master plans to categorize messages by audience, priority and placement. We help to identify authors, owners and content creators. Through these methods, we are able to orchestrate messages for everyone who might inhabit the space.

MD Anderson Faces of Philanthropy L O C AT I O N :

Faces of Philanthropy offers a glimpse into the history of how donors have influenced MD Anderson’s evolution into one of the world’s largest and most respected centers devoted to cancer patient care, research, education and prevention. It tells the story of philanthropic giving and its aim to eradicate cancer. The exhibit also recognizes those who make differences in the lives of others through gifts of time, knowledge and spirit.

Halas Hall, which serves as the Chicago Bears’ headquarters and training facility, is all about winning games. From the way the team trains, recovers and educates players, each step of the journey connects them to the Bears legacy and the goal of every season: the Superbowl trophy. At the players’ entrance, retired numbers are incorporated with motion sensors, light, sound and video to invigorate players as they enter. A large-scale installation commemorates 100 years of Bears football with suspended acrylic rods that represent different seasons—regular, post or Superbowl. And we worked closely with the team’s archivists to carefully display and reinterpret historic memorabilia.

Cargill Protein Headquarters L O C AT I O N :

Cargill Protein’s new headquarters celebrates the why behind Cargill’s mission. The theme “families feeding families” ties visitors to the protein process and the farmers, ranchers, chefs, scientists and engineers working together to nourish the world. EXD helped to develop a tour path through the space with a corresponding story that would be told. Content is sourced locally and reference the landscape, animals, textures and details that are found in the supply chain. Hand-drawn sketches married with corporate brand guidelines create a regional expression that is both authentic and humble. In all, the experiential graphics create a holistic picture and authentic expression that is uniquely Cargill Protein.

Bayer Animal Health History Display L O C AT I O N :

Bayer Animal Health History commemorates 150 years of responsible care to farm and companion animals. The exhibit consists of a graphically enhanced introduction wall, five exhibit bays and is approximately 90 feet in length. The exhibit is located within a long corridor that connects several of Bayer’s on-site facilities. The exhibit is filled with artifacts in relation to animal health and advancements to their wellbeing, health and safety.

AMC Theatres is dedicated to innovating the way people see movies. For their new Support Center, they wanted to catalyze cultural change and celebrate AMC’s role in the entertainment industry. Collaboration between Experience Design and the architectural and interiors teams led to the creation of unique solutions that evoke the movie going experience. AMC brand attributes—like bold splashes of color and the iconic red circle—brought together with theater motifs like movie posters and the theater curtain, create an unique sense of place for employees and visitors.

The exhibit at MASCO’s headquarters references the legacy, innovations, influences and milestones of MASCO’s history. The manufacturer’s products—used in the building—are celebrated. And the storyline continues into new imagined futures for the company. The media includes passive exhibits, broadcast video and physical artifacts.

Kaiser Permanente Medical Office Building L O C AT I O N :

Kaiser Permanente’s new Riverside Medical Office celebrates the city of Roseville’s legacy as a railroad town, agricultural producer and gateway to the Sierra Nevada. Nods to Roseville’s roots pays tribute to the city where it’s located, such as large-scale photos of the marquee from the Roseville Theatre on Vernon Street and freight cars lined up in a railyard. The facility represents Kaiser Permanente’s integrated healthcare model of care and coverage together, including coordinated care, advanced technology and medical excellence.

Shiseido Americas Headquarters L O C AT I O N :
NEW YORK, NEW YORK

The new headquarters for Shiseido Americas is designed to support the company’s value of “One Shiseido.” Each of the nine brands are part of the family but have their independence. The new space offers a place for the exchange of ideas, organic connection and to come together for a common goal. At the heart of the Shiseido brand and culture are the principles of Omotenashi, which is a Japanese phrase loosely meaning hospitality, treatment, reception and service. The design brings a luxury retail experience to the workplace. The graphics support this with the clean lines of magnetic artwork, which offers quick changeability for new campaigns and products. Large-scale wallcoverings invoke the layered effect of the brushstroke—a nod to Japanese calligraphy and brushpainting—and reference the connection of human hand in make-up.

Southern Methodist University’s Moody Coliseum L O C AT I O N :
DALLAS, TEXAS

The renovation of Moody Coliseum transformed the dated landmark into a preeminent collegiate sports venue. The design pays homage to Moody’s past through historical artifacts, artwork and 312 historical pictures on display throughout the Coliseum. A system of interchangeable exhibits were designed and installed in a series of concourse alcoves and serve as the building blocks for a tour of SMU athletics as well as campus life—recognizing donors, the current basketball and volleyball teams and the Lettermen’s Hall of Fame. The experiential graphics were coordinated with interior finishes in hospitality spaces, such as club seats, loge boxes, private suites and the Miller Events Center to enhance the game day experience.
