Meridians
Por tercer año consecutivo, Magali Arriola, directora del Museo Tamayo de Ciudad de México será la curadora de la sección Meridians, donde se exhiben obras e instalaciones a gran escala.
Meridians
For the third consecutive year, Magali Arriola, director of the Tamayo Museum in Mexico City, will be the curator of the Meridians section, where large-scale works and installations are exhibited.
Entre las obras más destacadas en Meridians estan:
“Let The Mermaids Flirt with Me” 2022, es una presentación de un conjunto de pinturas de cristal tintado en cajas de luz de Christopher Myers, instaladas dentro de una estructura octogonal que asemeja una capilla. Esta obra se activa con un performance que anima las figuras representadas en el vidrio. Presentado por la galería James Cohan.
“The Grove” (2021) de Devan Shimoyama, que monumentaliza la imagen común de zapatos unidos en sus cordones y colgando de tendidos eléctricos para evidenciar tanto un presunto territorio o violencia de pandillas, como momentos de celebración y juego. Presentado por Kavi Gupta.
“Columbus Day” (2019-2020) de Hock E Aye Vi Edgar Heap of Birds, que consiste en 24 monoimpresiones de tintas primarias y 24 “impresiones fantasma”, que son la extracción secundaria de las placas de impresión y representan cómo suelen verse las comunidades indígenas; a saber, como “ausentes”, borrosas y desaparecidas. Presentado por K Art.
Una instalación de sillas colgadas del techo y una obra de performance diaria de seis horas de la artista colombiana María José Arjona, “Silla” (2011), sobre materia, objetualidad, experiencia y el rol fundamental del cuerpo en movimiento como una forma de coreografía política. Presentado por Rolf Art.
Una obra escultórica de Simon Denny adaptada a partir de un dron de entrega, “Amazon delivery drone patent drawing as virtual Rio Tinto mineral globe” (2021), que emplea realidad aumentada para facilitar una serie de experiencias performáticas grupales activadas por los dispositivos de los espectadores. Presentado por Petzel y Altman Siegel.
“Cuerpos esculpidos, cuerpos sexualizados, cuerpos actuando y cantando (cuerpos morenos, negros y blancos) se han hecho presentes en esta nueva edición de Meridians, desafiando los cánones artísticos históricos y su relación con la representación del poder, lo que abre nuevas perspectivas para el activismo del arte en torno al género y la raza, e infunde optimismo y esperanza sobre cómo podríamos imaginar nuestro futuro”. Contara con la presencia de 29 galerias que presentan instalaciones curadas entre las que destacan:
Una presentación de nuevas obras de Alberta Whittle específicamente creadas para la feria. Presentado por The Modern Institute.
Nuevas obras de Izumi Kato, cuyas esculturas y pinturas animadas permiten la existencia de los sujetos entre lo físico y lo espiritual. Presentado por Stephen Friedman Gallery.
Obras inusuales y seminales de Ascânio MMM, cuyas esculturas y bajorrelieves tienen sus raíces en las matemáticas y presentan un complejo juego de lógica. Presentado por Casa Triângulo.
Las pinturas de flores nunca antes vistas de Margot Bergman que son parte de sus “pinturas en colaboración” (2013). Presentado por Anton Kern Gallery.
Un salón de obras de escala íntima nunca antes vistas tanto históricas como nuevas de Dewey Crumpler. Presentado por Derek Eller Gallery.
Conversations
Treinta y cinco oradores entre artistas, coleccionistas, galeristas, curadores, directores de museos y críticos convergen en nueve mesas redondas para compartir e intercambiar ideas sobre temas relativos a la escena artística global contemporánea. Among the most outstanding works in Meridians:
“Let The Mermaids Flirt with Me” 2022, is a presentation of a set of stained-glass paintings in light boxes by Christopher Myers, installed within an octagonal structure resembling a chapel. This work is activated with a performance that animates the figures represented in the glass. Presented by James Cohan Gallery.
“The Grove” (2021) by Devan Shimoyama, which monumentalizes the common image of shoes tied together by their laces and hanging from power lines to show both alleged territory or gang violence, as well as moments of celebration and play. Hosted by Kavi Gupta.
“Columbus Day” (2019-2020) by Hock E Aye Vi Edgar Heap of Birds, consisting of 24 primary ink monoprints and 24 “ghost prints”, which are the secondary extraction of printing plates and represent what the inks typically look like-- indigenous communities, namely, as “absent”, blurred and missing. Presented by K Art.
An installation of chairs hanging from the ceiling and a six-hour daily performance piece by Colombian artist María José Arjona, “Chair” (2011), on matter, objecthood, experience, and the pivotal role of the body in motion as a form of political choreography. Presented by Rolf Art.
A sculptural work by Simon Denny adapted from a delivery drone, “Amazon delivery drone patent drawing as virtual Rio Tinto mineral globe” (2021), which uses augmented reality to facilitate a series of group performance experiences activated through devices by the viewers.
“Sculpted bodies, sexualized bodies, acting and singing bodies (brown, black and white bodies) have been present in this new edition of Meridians, challenging historical artistic canons and their relationship with the representation of power, which opens up new perspectives for art activism around gender and race, and instills optimism and hope about how we might imagine our future.” Magali Arriola.-

Kabinett will have the presence of 29 galleries that present curated installations. Standouts include:
A presentation of new works by Alberta Whittle specifically created for the fair. Presented by The Modern Institute.
New works by Izumi Kato, whose animated sculptures and paintings allow subjects to exist between the physical and the spiritual. Presented by Stephen Friedman Gallery.

Conversations
Thirty-five speakers including artists, collectors, gallerists, curators, museum directors and critics converge in nine round tables to share and exchange ideas on issues related to the contemporary global art scene.
Some of the participants of this installation includes: artist Agnieszka Kurant, cultural strategy advisor András Szántó, collectors Rosa and Carlos de la Cruz, collector and CEO and Co-founder of Design Miami/ Craig Robins, the art historian and curator Drew Sawyer, artists João Enxuto and Erica Love, curator and Serpentine Galleries Co-Director Hans Ulrich Obrist, artist Joshua Citarella, collector and real estate developer Martin Margulies, and Artnet News writer and art market editor Tim Schneider.
Conversations will take place from November 30 to December 2, the program is curated by Emily Butler, Art Basel’s Conversations Curator, and is free to the public. All panel discussions will be broadcast live on the Art Basel Facebook channel. The recordings will be available on the Art Basel website after the event. Rock I Roll by Germane Barnes
Rock I Roll, es una instalación de arte diseñada por el arquitecto Germane Barnes para el Design District, que puede ser disfrutada en la plaza Palm Court.
La multifacética obra busca honrar las comunidades “BIPOC”, término que se usa para referirse a distintos grupos que sufren de discriminación racial en Estados Unidos.
Barnes, diseñó una serie de capsulas voluminosas de colores vibrantes que se mecen cuando los usuarios las activan y que hacen alusión a la diversidad multicultural y al ritmo super dinámico de la ciudad de Miami. Una cúpula flotante, suspendida en lo alto y animada con luz y sonido, y cientos de campanas de viento que cuelgan de los árboles del vecindario.
Rock I Roll, an art installation designed by architect Germane Barnes for the Design District, can be enjoyed in Palm Court Square.
The multifaceted work seeks to honor “BIPOC” communities, a term used to refer to different groups that suffer from racial discrimination in the United States.
Barnes designed a series of voluminous capsules in vibrant colors that sway when activated by users, alluding to the multicultural diversity and superdynamic rhythm of the city of Miami. A floating dome suspended high and animated with light and sound, and hundreds of wind chimes hanging from the neighborhood trees.
Gagosian & Geffrey Deitch
100 Years, es el nombre de la séptima exposición colectiva que la archiconocida galería de arte Gagosian en colaboración con Geffrey Deitch, exhiben en el icónico edificio Buick durante Miami Art Week, la exhibición explora la interacción del pasado, el presente y el futuro a través de obras de artistas contemporáneos que dialogan con los cambios culturales y ambientales del siglo pasado.

100 Years, is the name of the seventh collective exhibition that the well-known Gagosian art gallery in collaboration with Geffrey Deitch, exhibits in the iconic Buick building during Miami Art Week, the exhibition explores the interaction of the past, present, and future through works by contemporary artists who dialogue with the cultural and environmental changes of the last century.

En su décimo aniversario PRIZM presenta Vernacular À la Mode. South Beach MONAD Ritz Carlton Hotel South Beach
Fundado por los artistas locales Eric Goldemberg y Verónica Zalcberg, el estudio Monad, diseñó esculturas sónicas en 3D que se exhibirán en el vestíbulo del Ritz Carlton South Beach, hotel socio oficial de Art Basel Miami 2022.
Las esculturas se utilizarán durante un concierto privado llamado “Concert of the Seven Decades and Beyond”, que dará el Ritz Carlton en asociación con la Orquesta Sinfónica de Miami MISO para celebrar las últimas siete décadas de historia, arte y cultura de Miami.

Founded by local artists Eric Goldemberg and Verónica Zalcberg, the Monad studio designed 3D sonic sculptures that will be exhibited in the lobby of the Ritz Carlton South Beach, the official partner hotel of Art Basel Miami 2022.
The sculptures will be used during a private concert called “Concert of the Seven Decades and Beyond,” which will be given by the Ritz Carlton in association with the MISO Miami Symphony Orchestra to celebrate the past seven decades of Miami history, art, and culture.

Artist A Bonnie Lautenberg celebrates the powerful images of women that she has produced over two decades of art. The women in these works are admired by Lautenberg for their spirit of freedom and the exhibition includes her representations of the Statue of Liberty that confront some of today’s most challenging issues.
