As the Cuba Action Team Leader, Andres “Andy” Fernandez focuses on licensing, regulatory and compliance-related matters and has an in-depth understanding of the business opportunities and legal framework to conduct business in the region. With an emphasis on issues pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), anti-money laundering (AML) and targeted sanctions administered and enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Mr. Fernandez counsels a broad range of clients. Of particular interest, Mr. Fernandez represents financial institutions in diverse matters, including the representation of financial institutions before various regulatory/enforcement agencies, as well as the resolution of potential civil and criminal monetary penalties, fines and forfeitures before OFAC, U.S. regulators, FinCEN and the U.S. Department of Justice.

Holland & Knight Attorney Aymee Valdivia brings strengths from being born and raised in Cuba along with her training as a lawyer in Cuba. She focuses her practice on corporate and international law and has a profound understanding of the legal systems and business culture in the U.S., Latin America and Cuba. Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Ms. Valdivia practiced law in Cuba for several years. This provided her with extensive knowledge of the Cuban legal system, especially in the areas of foreign investment, financing, regulatory compliance and immigration.
