My Journey
Photography Practice
My practice explores themes of travel, nomadism, culture and mobility – explored within a landscape / documentary mode of photography. The practice takes two forms …. 1. Fine Art - travel, movement, drift, flaneurship have formed the initial motivation for making photography as an art practice 2. Commercial - illustrative commissions exploring these themes thematically

“Teller’s idiosyncratic visual style and use of unusual models has been instrumental in establishing what has become one of the preeminent fashion brands of our times. Reflecting the intelligence and individuality of the Marc Jacobs brand, the models have included Sofia Coppola, Charlotte Rampling, Kim Gordon ..” From Marc Jacobs Advertising, Steidl, 2010
A History of Marc Jacobs The Marc Jacobs brand is the brainchild of renowned designer and the brand’s namesake, Marc Jacobs. The Marc Jacobs brand creates beautiful, high-fashion shoes and clothing, adored on the runways but worn by women everywhere all the same. The magnificent styles of women’s Marc Jacobs shoes and fashion are heralded for their daring appeal, reverberating equal parts joyful delight and fearsome awe throughout the fashion world time and time again. Contemporary women and fashionista’s are drawn to Marc Jacobs shoes, Marc Jacobs boots and Marc Jacobs sandals for their stunning elegance. But before the Marc Jacobs brand would take over the world of fashion, Marc Jacobs the fashion designer had to introduce himself to that same world himself. The Start of the Marc Jacobs Brand In 1986, Marc Jacobs launched the Marc Jacobs fashion line. His designs injected a sense of whimsy and eccentricity into luxurious, trend-setting style. The brand was a hit. It was actually such a hit that Marc Jacobs won the coveted Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). In 1997, the Marc Jacobs brand opened its first store, located in New York’s famed Soho district. This would be just the catalyst for the wide expansion of the Marc Jacobs brand. Eventually, Marc Jacobs would open stores all across the U.S., including stores in Boston, Los Angeles, and Chicago. The company would spread overseas as well to Paris, London, Madrid, Athens, Milan, and many more cities. Marc Jacobs now has more than 100 stores worldwide. Marc by Marc Jacobs and Other Collections from Marc Jacobs In 2001, Marc Jacobs launched the Marc by Marc Jacobs line to complement the original Marc Jacobs collection. The Marc by Marc Jacobs line was created to offer a much more affordable alternative to the original collection. Marc by Marc Jacobs shoes, boots and sandal combine Marc Jacobs’ quirky personality with retro-inspired styles. Marc Jacobs also introduced a full line of children’s shoes and wear, named Little Marc Jacobs. In addition, Marc Jacobs produces a variety of accessories such as watches, jewelry, bags, and eyewear. Most recently, in 2008, Marc Jacobs launched a limited edition line of fragrances.
Photographer: Juergan Teller Client: Jigsaw Menswear
“Tellers Jigsaw shoot also highlighted contemporary concerns about how to represent men and masculinity in fashion. Menswear spreads that drew on themes of street crime, surveillance and urban angst, set in derelict streets, amid tower blocks or public lavatories, told tales of everyday disenfranchisement. Evans, C. Fashion at the Edge. 2003

Corporate Commissions
Corporate Commissions: Brian Griffin: Teamphotos : High Speed 1 Regarded as …’ the most substantial corporate book of photographs since the Great Exhibition of 1851 – Teamphoto: portraits of the people who built Britain’s first high speed railway, celebrates the unique development of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link from St Pancras.’
Corporate Commissions: Brian Griffin: Water People In 2005 Brian Griffin was invited by the Icelandic geothermal energy company, Reykjavik Energy, to undertake a commission. The original idea was simply to ‘represent water’ and he was free to interpret it exactly as he saw fit. His unique solution to this project was to create a mythic tale of an aerial adventure across the Icelandic landscape in search of The Water People.
Public Commissions Reference Works is a major new photography commission in which four leading artists have made creative responses to the new Library of Birmingham and the old Central Library Artists: Michael Collins, Brian Griffin, Andrew Lacon and Stuart Whipps
Public Commissions Brian Griffin Brian made a series of portraits featuring people working across the entire project: from the architects who designed the building, project managers, and representatives from partner organisations such as The Birmingham Rep and BCU to the young apprentices gaining work experience, training and jobs in the construction industry
