U.S. COMPANIES PUSH FOR INVOICE AUTOMATION The movement to electronic invoice automation has saved thousands of trees in Turkey and has pushed the United States' approach to invoice automation.
Saving trees in Turkey Turkey put invoice automation in place in 2010, and has steadily increased its efforts each year since. Hurri Yet Daily reported that 100,000 trees were saved along with $293 million since the invoice automation's implementation. It was reported by the E-Invoicing Platform that as of Oct. 31, there were 20,000 taxpayers using Turkey's invoice automation system. Finance Minister Mehmet ĹžimĹ&#x;ek plans to reach a goal of 100,000 invoice automation users within the next two years with the taxpayers that will be required to use the system to be 40,000 in 2015. This is planned to be done by enforcing taxpayers in particular sectors to use invoice automation. Challenges accounts payable faces Despite the U.S. Bank's step toward e-invoicing, its leaders said that many accounts payable departments in the U.S. are still plagued with paper documents. Canon mentioned that a solution most companies are agreeing with to approach a paperless accounts payable department is outsourcing. Outsourcing can also potentially help companies collect documents with electronic document imaging on top of invoice automation. According to Business Wire, respondents in a survey agreed that outsourcing would be the only way to organize their company's overflow of paper. This is due to the belief that special expertise is necessary for data conversion and technology in the transition to invoice automation. The use of invoice automation and electronic workflow is steadily climbing in the U.S., but only will it become successful when account payable departments make the push to make the change from manual documentation to document management software. _________________________________ Ready to kick your paper habit?
