s. Mhel Pechera is an achiever, 2016 model mom awardee, Philippine’s Best Dressed Awardee 2016, Manila Best Dressed Award 2016 and she’s also part of Ruper Jacinto Faaabvlous Cover Ladies of 2016. Mhel is the President and CEO of Iship Logipack Inc. She is active in joining different fashion shows and doing charity work. She is into workouts, running, playing golf, hiking, trekking and mountaineering. She is one of the familiar faces in the fashion industry not only on the runway but she graces a lot of local magazines in manila.

We are honored and privilege to have Ms. Mhel Pechera as our current magazine cover. Let’s get to know more about her. HWM: You mentioned that you were a plain housewife before you took on the responsibility of managing your business? Mhel: Yes, I started as a plain housewife. I enjoyed running a happy home with my family and took care of my 3 kids (Karl, Meray and Meiko). So, my hardworking husband was the one managing our business before. But unfortunately, my husband passed away at the early stage of our marriage. HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY 5

HWM: How difficult to be a mom and a career woman? Mhel: In my situation, I had to pursue to do my responsibilities as a mother at the same time to study on how to run our business. Very challenging roles for me of course but in the end, I enjoyed my job being a mother and businesswoman as well. HWM: How did manage to triumph over all the struggles that you’ve been through? Mhel: I was strongly motivated by my family and the people who worked for us. I also realized that this was God’s plan for me and maybe these roles are really for me. I had to be brave, strong, positive and determined. My three kids and my whole family served as my inspirations to be strong and to be the woman I am today. HWM: Speaking about your kids, what would you like to share with us about their sports or their personal interests? Mhel: I am blessed and proud of my kids. My eldest son Karl is finishing his BSBA, major and a degree in Marketing. He loves playing golf. My second son Meray is currently in the 8th grade and he is on the school’s varsity team, traveled to the USA last year for special training. My youngest daughter is Meiko. She is a consistent honor student an accomplished gymnast; and she was the overall champion in her division. HWM: We are eager to know the background of your family business. What would you like to share with us?

HWM: How did you overcome the understandable depressing moment you had when your husband died? Mhel: That was one of the most difficult times in my life. Imagine being suddenly left alone with three young kids and a family business. But I had to be strong for my family, especially for my kids. That was indeed a very dark period because we struggled a lot and I almost give up. 6 HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

Mhel: Our Company started as a trading business called “ACTIP” in Alabang and supplied mostly manufacturing companies. It was in 2003 when iShip Logipack Inc was registered as a Manufacturing Company and started operating inside the Export Processing Zone. Full operation began in 2004. We at first started importing corrugated sheets from abroad and in mid-2005, we started our first extrusion process of these corrugated sheets in the Philippines. Our company was also the first manufacturer of corrugated plastic sheets here in the country. These sheets resemble corrugated carton used for packaging or boxes. They assemble these sheets to form packaging materials for the products of their clients both here and abroad, reaching as far as Japan and the U.S. We also design, assemble and supply pipe and joint products which are alternates for the fabrication of production tables, racks and trollies. Our products eliminate the ancient use of welding, replacing it with a DIY method of clamping by joints, giving our customers the freedom of customizing their needs with ease.

HWM: How do you manage your time running your business, family and doing a lot of things like modeling and being active in social gatherings?

HWM: Being a super woman, empowered women and a business woman, I believe you deserved to receive recognition. Can you tell us of your recent awards?

Mhel: I take time to check our business and meet our staff regularly but I let my managers and staff to do the day to day operations. I am also secured in that we have a good and competent people. We have a management team that sets policy directions and strategies. For me it’s very important to have a work-life-balance. During my free time, I pursue my personal interest to keep me motivated. I like attending social events, doing charities, playing golf and going to the gym, joining marathon, trekking and mountaineering.

Mhel: My recent awards and recognition that I have received included the World Class Excellence Japan Awards – Outstanding Entrepreneur 2017, Model Mom Awardee 2016, Philippine’s Best Dressed Awardee 2016, Manila Best Dressed Award 2016 and Ruper Jacinto Faaabvlous Cover Ladies of 2016

HWM: You mentioned that you were part of some charity events; can you tell us more about it? Mhel: For the past 4 years, we have been supporting Loma Elementary School in Binan, Laguna. We had several projects like Tulong Aral 2016, Brigada Eskwela, Fun Run Projects and Tree Planting activities. I also support different charity events, fashion for a cause gala and fashion shows. 8 HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

HWM: At this point, do you have any other ultimate dreams or goals? Mhel: My ultimate dream is to see my company reach greater heights and my children taking over the business. But I’m not obligating any of them; they are free to choose their career path. I’m still giving them the freedom to follow their hearts’ desires. To see our company continue to help my people in terms of employment, success and livelihood is more than enough for me.

SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENTS TO BE HONORED WITH ACADEMY AWARDS

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that 18 scientific and technical achievements represented by 34 individual award recipients, as well as five organizations, will be honored at its annual Scientific and Technical Awards Presentation on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills. “This year we are particularly pleased to be able to honor not only a wide range of new technologies, but also the pioneering digital cinema cameras that helped facilitate the widespread conversion to electronic image capture for motion picture production,” said Ray Feeney, Academy Award® recipient and chair of the Scientific and Technical Awards Committee. “With their outstanding, innovative work, these technologists, engineers and inventors have significantly expanded filmmakers’ creative choices for moving image storytelling.” Unlike other Academy Awards to be presented this year, achievements receiving Scientific and Technical Awards need not have been developed and introduced during 2016. Rather, the achievements must demonstrate a proven record of contributing significant value to the process of making motion pictures.

The Academy Awards for scientific and technical achievements are: TECHNICAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS (ACADEMY CERTIFICATES) To Thomson Grass Valley for the design and engineering of the pioneering Viper FilmStream digital camera system. T

he Philippines welcomed delegates for the most prestigious beauty pageant in the planet, the Miss Universe, as the country recently hosted the pageant’s 65th edition. The Philippines hosted the Miss Universe pageant almost 43 years after the country hosted it for the first time in 1974. ABS-CBN News reported that to put all into concrete agreement, the Department of Tourism of the Philippines, together with the sponsors and representatives of the Miss Universe Organization, signed the partnership contract which sealed the deal for the southeast Asian nation staging the 65th Miss Universe competition. The finals night was scheduled on January 29, 2017 (January 30 in the Philippines) but delegates were expected three weeks

prior for various preliminary countries expected to be hosted in different parts of the country. Representing the Miss Universe Organization in the signing and official press conference was Shawn McClain, vice president of business development and marketing of the Miss Universe Organization. He said before the media that the Philippines will be greatly benefited by the threehour telecast of Miss Universe. “We will had a team of about 400 people here, and we visited lots of different places, showing the world what the Philippines has to offer. And we’re gonna be helping boost tourism, and putting positive focus on everything that the Philippines is and stands for and will be in the future,” McClain said.

Former politician and ex-governor Chavit Singson of the Philippine province of Ilocos Sur was also present in the ceremonial contract signing held at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel. Singson’s holding company, LCS Group, serves as the pageant’s official host. He said that all TV networks in the Philippines will be allowed to air the pageant, upon the request of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, CNN Philippines reported. The coronation event was held at the 15,000-seater SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, where reigning Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines crowned her successor before her own countrymen. The program was broadcast live in 190 countries. Singson also revealed before the press that the Philippine hosting of the Miss Universe pageant was initially canceled by the pageant’s owners. He clarified, however, that this initial cancellation was not due to lack of funding. He reiterated that his group shouldered about $12.9 million for the staging of the pageant, ABS-CBN News reported. He disclosed that the owners backed out from the initial agreement of Philippine hosting Miss Universe. This even

after Singson’s group and co-investors had already paid in full. Singson said that the owners are in fact ready to pay damages should Singson sue in court for breach of contract. The Miss Universe pageant is owned by Ari Emanuel who is the brother of President Barack Obama’s chief of staff, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Singson refused to delve into the details of the reasons behind the cancellation of the pageant. However, he hinted that it could be related to politics.

You’ve directed the Tony Awards, the Emmys and the American Music Awards, to name a few. What’s different about the Oscars? The intensity. This particular show is under a magnifying glass like no other. Everything is very much a topic of water cooler talk, not just the next day but for a long time to come. The size and scale of the Oscars make it what it is, which is the granddaddy of them all. Last year was your first time directing the show. What was that experience like? It was great. I had a wonderful time doing it.

What makes an awards show such a roller coaster for the viewers — and especially for me as a director — is the intangible, the unknown. That manifests itself mostly in acceptance speeches. We don’t know who the winner is, but we also don’t know what they’re going to say. There’s a difference between somebody who’s truly shocked and blown away and somebody who’s prepared. For every winner that comes up here, we’re taken in a different direction

Show producers Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd announced today that Glenn Weiss will return as Oscars® director, his second consecutive year. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, the Oscars will air live Sunday, February 26, on the ABC Television Network.

RETURNS AS OSCARS® DIRECTOR HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY 25

The audience in the room needs to be engaged and entertained for us to keep the energy we’d like to have. and maybe a different emotional roller coaster. For me, that’s a wonderful part of the journey — being able to adapt and roll with every acceptance speech that comes, and to react accordingly. How do you cater to both the live crowd and viewers at home? The Oscars are a television show for millions of people to see, but it’s also dependent on the thousands in the theater to give it the right energy. In my mind, it’s not an either/or. I have to do something that’s going to entertain the millions who watch at home, but by the same token, I don’t want to lose the people in the house who can make it feel emotionally great or not. In my execution, and in my point of view, the live house audience is a really, really important player to a show, especially when the show is on the longer side. As it goes later into the night, you can lose them. The audience in the room needs to be engaged and entertained for us to 26 HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

keep the energy we’d like to have. How do you keep the show running on time? We know roughly how long presenter copy is going to go and we know exactly how long tapes are going to play. The intangible is how long it takes someone to get to the stage and what they do with that time. We always hope the winners earlier in the show are considerate enough to think about other folks who are coming later. Because it all has to fit and we want to be as respectful as possible. The added element of being able to thank someone that you forgot backstage and have it posted online [through the Oscars All-Access Thank You Cam] is great for nominees because they know that even if they forget to mention someone, there’s an avenue for them to thank those people. In my years of awards show experience, it’s the acceptance speeches of people who speak from the heart, people who viewers at home get to

My take on directing— and life—is that if you’re smart enough to listen to those around you, you’ll look really good.

what is on tape, what is live; are we doing this as a tribute, are we doing this as a clip; those kinds of decisions. There are a lot of awards, too, so it’s about balancing expectations between creative choices and knowing time constraints. In everything I do, collaboration is king—I’m simply a believer in that. Mounting something of this proportion is a huge team effort. What’s Oscar Week like? As we get closer to the show, things really ramp up. The crew spends the week taking apart the entire show, scene by scene, so that we know, for example, if we’re coming to Award #4, the wall moves upstage, the presenter comes from stage left, the nominees are seated here, here and here. The week that leads up to it is really fun for us, but if you’re on the outside, it might feel like watching paint dry. It’s a slow process, but as part of that process, everybody gets in tune with the roadmap of where we’re going. It’s a great creative collaboration, and as we see things play out onstage, input from the crew involving their area of expertise is taken into account and helps refine our planning. It all makes the show better. My take on directing—and life—is that if you’re smart enough to listen to those around you, you’ll look really good. What’s unique about the Saturday rehearsal? know a bit more because they’re being real and being emotional, that resonate most.

On the day before the show, most, if not all, of our talent will come through and run their segment. It’s a great time to work through the segments they’re doing and make sure they’re comfortable.

Reading a list of names, as nice as that is to acknowledge people, doesn’t convey the emotion of the moment. Seeing Roberto Benigni’s reaction to his name being called and climbing on the seats, or seeing Jack Palance leave the mic to do push ups, or hearing Tom Hanks or Halle Berry’s very emotional speeches about what they are feeling at that moment are just some examples of speeches that are more likely to have the audience connect with… those are the moments that stand out to me.

What’s unique to the Oscars is getting all the talent to come through on that day — it creates an electric feeling in the room. It’s nice to have A-list talent be a part of it, working with you on everything: where they’re coming from, where they’re going, what the set looks like behind them, the words they say, down to where the nominees are seated.

How do you prepare for the Oscars?

When is your job done?

My work on this year’s show began in late October with the design process. We worked with the producers Michael DeLuca and Jennifer Todd] and the designer Derek McLane on set design and, from there, on building the rest of the show. Everything starts with what we make the Dolby Theatre look like that night. From there, we work with the producers on the overall flow of the show:

On some shows, you don’t have that kind of day where everybody comes through, and sometimes it shows. That moment when I say, “Fade to black,” after the final credit. This is an adrenaline-based job, and you never let your guard down the entire time you’re on the air. There’s no escaping that we’re live, and any number of things can go wrong. It’s like walking a tightrope, but I love it. HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY 27

EUGENE MOSLEY CONNECT THE DOTS TO YOUR DREAM

ugene Mosley, a jazz enthusiast, resides in Northwest Louisiana, where he creates his masterful collages of history giving recognition to legends of Jazz and Entertainment. His artwork is stippling, depicted by millions of dots, meticulously arranged by hand to reveal the most memorable aspects of his legendary characters. His illustrations have been dubbed “a unique form of education through art by school officials,

who have encouraged to our youth about the legendary Jazz entertainers of all time. Most notably art teacher, Mr. Billy Adgers of Southwood High School taught Eugene this technique. Furthermore, Mr. Mosley has collaborated with dynamic art illustrator, Brian Rood, to add color to some of his masterful pointillism creations. Growing up in Las Vegas, this lifelong jazz enthusiast had youthful aspirations of becoming a celebrated artist whose

works would grace a major gallery. He was on a boyhood mission, and in spite of familial recalcitrance, Mr. Mosley is now revered as one of only five world class pointillists. The realism of his collages captures the true character of the renowned entertainment and jazz performers he depicts. Former Las Vegas Lieutenant Governor, Lorraine Hunt, recognized not only his painterly gifts but also honored his outstanding civic commitment; but then, Eugene was just upholding his commitment to the hometown that was so formative to him. His munificence has broadened the perception of this metropolis as a serious cultural center beyond its stereotypical gambling resort perception. Donating a priceless Sammy Davis, Jr. piece to the Las Vegas Under the City Lights Jazz Festival elevated the stakes and his singlehanded efforts to mentor rising artists in area classes at the University of Nevada and those enrolled in the Clark County School System enhance his desert Medici reputation. Fortunate guests of the Venetian Hotel and Casino will want to glimpse his available for purchase artwork at the respected Regis Galerie. Altovise Davis bestowed a Sammy Davis, Jr. oeuvre to Larry King on a CNN Live presentation and other bold faced names have been fortuitous recipients: Clint Holmes, Michael Jackson, Steve Harvey, Patti LaBelle, Antonio Fargas, Richard Street of The Temptations, Steve Wynn of the eponymous casino, and Jack Binion of the Horseshoe Casino, to name just a few. Childhood dreams should never be dashed especially if they are of a formidable talent. Contemporary pointillist, Eugene Mosley, had a passion for painting at a very early age and through sheer force of will has emerged as one of pop culture’s greatest portraitists. His neo-Impressionist technique, stippling, creates canvasses comprised of millions of dots and the overall mesmerizing effect and images are so evocative they have garnered the attention and accolades of the jazz and entertainment world’s best known icons. Imagine a little black book filled with the likes of Ray Charles, Wynton Marsalis, Cab Calloway, Altovise and Sammy Davis, Jr., Duke Ellington, Lucille Ball, John Wayne, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, and Steve Harvey. You dream of an autograph, they dream of a sitting.

NOW YOU SEE IT, NOW YOU DON’T. Look more closely and you may wonder just how this master conjures the magic that allows the delighted viewer to mesh these vivid colors. With a deft application of a 18 to25 point pen that’s even finer than a sewing needle, Mr. Mosley painstakingly applies hues that meld in the mind’s eye in staggeringly, arresting compositions. And as with any vision of remarkable beauty, you simply can’t stop staring. HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY 31

INKING AND NOW DRINKING

So, what becomes a legend more? Well, his own cognac! Reinventing the drink of kings and giving this upscale libation a decidedly down market appeal is his latest creation! This Christmas Bloomingdales sold out of Eugene’s limited edition crystal bottles of Legacy XO 1852 Cognac Luxury barbecue sauce made with 40-50 year old Legacy Cognac with the assistance of Kenny Nadeau of the Legendary Uncle Kenny’s Barbecue of Clermont Florida, to make this the most tantalizing barbecue sauce on market today. But let’s backtrack. Fifteen years ago and with his usual determination, Mr. Mosley founded his own wine company which launched some very distinctive, quite delectable condiments such as Cab Merlot Wine Steak Sauce, Smooth Jazz Peppercorn Dressing, Classical Jazz Summer Tomato Dressing, Bourbon Street Glaze Grilling Sauce, and Apple Cinnamon Grilling Sauce. In 2013, Cognac beckoned and Mr. Mosley approached a very exclusive 5th generation owned Cognac Vineyard in Cognac, France to create his very own Brand, Legacy 1852 XO Cognac. Mr. Mosley has also created the first ever peach flavored cognac on the market called Legend Peach Falsetto. This is distributed by National Distribution Company in Atlanta, Georgia and Local Choice Lifestyle, Inc. Two years in the making, but as with everything he touches, golden going down!

OF MICE AND GREAT MEN One desert metropolis, best known for its gambling, gives greater recognition to originators. No doubt that Mickey Mouse’s creator, legendary Walt Disney, is a household name but Eugene Mosley is now sharing the limelight and the Las Vegas Walk of Stars with this artistic titan. He made history by becoming the first artist to receive this honor. But this honorarium is hardly this Louisiana native’s first. He is a local legend in his second hometown and the recipient of the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce’s Walk of Stars distinction. This producer’s orbit extends well beyond impact in Louisiana and is felt just as keenly in more cosmopolitan circles. Jazz at the Lincoln Center in New York has featured his art work and he has been profiled in Jazz Times Magazine, Jet, and BET on Jazz. But gifted collagist remains humble and very tied to his roots in Las Vegas, Nevada as he continues as an active member of their Art Community and exerts influence to many aspiring designers. In fact, he has made it his mission to goad others in their expressionism. Last April, Mr. Mosley was himself the star at Art Meso, a fashion and design show benefiting Make-A-Wish Georgia. 2016 Beverly Hills Ca. Mr. Mosley received the Arts 4 Piece Life Time Award. Mosley would like to work with the kids around the world to show them that if you stay in school and follow your dreams and that dreams can come true, and also teach them his style of art.
