their members. Information gathered from the companies which offer services via the Marketplace will be organized in chapters, searchable by demand and accessible anywhere the user has internet access; much like the Certified Member Advisor training program works for their sales team today. Agora has set a target to launch the Members’ Learning Hub by the first quarter of 2017. Lastly, Agora believes in and practices the notion of giving back to the community. Chairman and Co-founder, Steve Aust states that, “Waking up every day and realizing that there’s someone or some group of people out there that could really use an ‘Advantage’ keeps me striving to deliver an awesome experience to anyone involved with Agora Advantage”. A former professional basketball player, turned investment banker, Aust speaks from experience having lived in several foster homes as a child. Today he lives is a beautiful home of his own in Southern California and works closely every day with members and advisors at Agora Advantage daily. “You know, I just love to hear people say the we’ve helped improved their lives and I’m hearing that pretty often these days. We’re just getting started!”

COMMUNITY INFLUENCE: OPERATION: VET ASSIST In addition to the 200,000+ service members who transition from active duty every year, there are many Veterans, Reservists, and Retirees who are looking for new employment opportunities. These Vets offer the skills, training and experience needed in virtually every industry. Agora Advantage recognizes this and set out to actively recruit those who have served our country. Agora has held 2 public recruiting events offering benefits that are exclusive to United States Veterans. The company expects many more events like this to come in the future as well.

FILIPINO AMERICAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE – GREATER LOS ANGELES: In a recent agreement with the FACCGLA, Agora is reaching out to the minority business community as well. As stated on their website, “Steadily growing and continually offering assistance to its members, FACCGLA has been recognized as a leader in providing resources as well as promoting community development and awareness for businesses. FACCGLA also serves as a voice for businesses. Not only through awareness of economic climate and legislative policies and news, but also through chamber member advocacy by conveying business’ interests and concerns to community leaders and policy makers.” Agora Advantage is actively reviewing proposals from other affinity groups including those in the Hispanic business sector, the medical field, the education industry and many others.

AGORA SEEKS TO EDUCATE THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY BY WAY OF AGGREGATING VALUABLE, INDUSTRY SPECIFIC INFORMATION AND DELIVERING IT VIA ITS PROPRIETARY VIRTUAL LEARNING SYSTEM

Agora Advantage believes that large companies have plenty of resources and negotiating power to keep their engines running just fine. The senior management of Agora has specifically focused on helping the small business sector. Their business model revolves around this important segment of the economy. Three-time NBA champion and one of NBA’s Global Ambassadors, A.C. Green stated, “Agora Advantage is leveling the playing field for the small to mid-level size companies”. As a philanthropist and a legend of his time, Mr. Green has taken an interest in assisting those who have the odds stacked against them. The quarter-century-old AC Green Youth Foundation is just one of his outreach programs dedicated to helping those who might otherwise be forgotten. Small business is great business! In fact, according to the

National Employment Report July 2016

ADP National Employment Report, more than 72% of the net jobs created in July of 2016 were created by businesses with less than 500 employees. That same report showed a surge in employment by private-sector companies which provide services while the goods-producing sector actually lost jobs during that same period. This was compared to the prior month. So who’s looking out for these incredible job generators? Agora Advantage is. In fact, in their relatively short history, Agora has helped thousands of small businesses obtain many essential services. This Silicon Valley based, disruptive business model is turning things around; and quickly. Former Assistant State Attorney (FL), Mitchell Newman had this to say about the impact he believes Agora Advantage has on America’s small business community: “First and foremost, small businesses in America today, face a lot of challenges. Certainly one is just determining which service provider the business ought to utilize. Secondly, most small businesses at any stage of their growth cycle, do not have time to negotiate costs down to a level that they can budget for. How many business owners do you know that have the time for all of that? Fortunately, through Agora Advantage, they don’t have to. Their Merchant Marketplace handles all of that.” Agora’s CEO and founder, Brad Lewis says, “Our approach wasn’t very complicated really. We just asked business owners what services they’ve had trouble obtaining and how we could make it easier for them. Isn’t it funny that just actually

talking to clients fosters innovation? I find this to be especially factual when connecting with younger business owners.” A young entrepreneur himself (37), Lewis spoke about how important it is that his company continues to help the business community. “I was taught incredible work ethic and sound principals of business management by my parents as a kid. I also learned that whenever possible, you’ve got to teach other people how to avoid pitfalls and how to find the help they need if you know where that is. In essence, that’s what our Merchant Marketplace provides all of our members”, he says.

M A K E M O N E Y J O I N . S AV E M O N E Y.

By all accounts, Lewis’ vision of what the small business owner needs is on par with just about every business startup list we could get our hands on. “Today, we’re focusing on the SMB market domestically.”, he says. “When the time is right, we’ll open our doors to the consumer market here in the U.S. and eventually expand outside of America’s borders.” And why not consider overseas solutions? Recently, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) reported that Small Business Optimism in the U.S. is “sluggish” at best. Perhaps an international play would be the perfect way for Agora Advantage to fulfill its brand promise of “Inclusion”. HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY 7

Agora has strategic partners in more than four dozen service categories and members (clients) in cities as far west as Maui, HI and as far east as Boston, MA. Their premier offering to the small and mid-sized business sectors was the basic membership which allowed members an ‘al la carte’ access level to their unique Merchant Marketplace

AGORA’S BEGINNINGS The road to success for Agora Advantage began far away from their corporate headquarters in the Silicon Valley of California. It all started during an off-site, week long training session in Parsippany, New Jersey. Agora’s founder and CEO, Brad Lewis was sent on an “all expenses paid” trip courtesy of his employer at the time, Automatic Data Processing where he was supposed to learn the tried and true methods of consulting small business owners on the subject of payroll processing and human resource management. Instead, he found himself sketching a diagram for what he saw as a much more efficient way for large sales organizations to impart vital trade practices and sales techniques via the internet. The instructor could deliver the material one time, perfectly and memorialize it onto a video platform where end users could watch from any computer when connected to the internet. This would also allow the students to study the content at a time and place which was free from distractions and at their own pace. Not to mention at a much lower cost to the organization which was presenting this training. Mr. Lewis would table this idea for nearly a decade as he continued his work in the Emerging Business Solutions division at ADP. Ultimately, Brad would obtain more than a dozen top producer awards for monthly sales production and was sent on several incentive trips to places such as the Big Island of Hawaii and Vail, Colorado for the elite “President’s Club” program. It wasn’t until circa 2012 that timing and technology would align for the virtual training platform concept to begin to take its form. At the time, Brad owned Catalyst Credit, a small business alternative financing firm based in Southern Nevada. The company had entered an agreement to offer merchant processing services to its clients. This was a new venture for the small company and merchant services were complicated to sell. So when the representative from the merchant services company showed up at Brad’s office, he fully expected thorough training. Much to his surprise, the representative handed him a blank bankcard application and a highlighter and said, “Ok, let’s make sure your team knows the areas they’ll need to fill out on this form.” The two of them spent several minutes going line by line through this process until Brad finally stopped to proclaim, “Wait a minute. There’s got to be a better way to do this!” The representative looked astonishingly back at him. “You mean to tell me that this is how you train all of your new people?”, Brad asked. “Well, uh...yeah”, said the rep. “Well that’s going to change”, replied Brad. Less than a year later, Brad and his then partner, another Brad had launched Merchant VT- the first virtual training platform for bankcard processing and sales training of its kind. This would prove to be the predecessor to today’s Agora Advantage CMA Training curriculum.

BRAD LEWIS WELL KNOWN AS A BUSINESS VISIONARY

With a virtual training platform so robust that an auto mechanic could learn to consult with restaurant owners on the subject of how they accept credit and debit cards and an engineer could intelligently talk with a florist about the most strategic way to leverage her future sales for investment capital to her business today. All of this was accessible from the comfort of their own homes. All that was needed from that point was several dozen business solutions and a few hundred willing and able Member Advisors to begin their training. Fast forward to 2016 where Agora Advantage now sits square atop a multi-trillion-dollar industry: the business solutions industry. Truly a pioneer, modernizing the way businesses connect with each other. Agora has strategic partners in more than four dozen service categories and members (clients) in cities as far west as Maui, HI and as far east as Boston, MA. Their premier offering to the small and mid-sized business sectors was the basic membership which allowed members an ‘al la carte’ access level to their unique Merchant Marketplace. In the third quarter of 2016, Agora unveiled their proprietary Agora Business Compass which is spearheaded with a system that allows business owners and operators to “scan” their business by entering a few common pieces of information about the business in their Agora Business Scanner. From there, the business can instantly see how more than 70 business directories are reporting information about their company at no cost. Agora Advantage then offers its services by assigning a dedicated Concierge to the business as part of their Enhanced Membership program. The concierge will gather important data from the point of contact at the business such as the correct web address, logos, phone numbers, pictures, hours of operation and more. This updated information is then pushed instantly into the business directories so that customers are only finding accurate data about the business in their search results.

On regular intervals, members receive a

resubmission requests directly with the financial institutions that members’ customers initiate payments from with this innovative system. At a better than 70% success rate, Agora eCashflow services helps businesses capture 100% of the funds their customers promised to pay them and deposits those funds into the business’ account; all without making a single embarrassing phone call. This service even has the ability to update customer credit and debit information should their issuing bank change that information.

pre-scheduled phone call from an Agora Advantage concierge to discuss the business’ latest updates, goals, and needs. Think: personal business problem solver. They will also be sure to update the member with new products and services being introduced to the Agora Marketplace. Accessibility and ease of use is a key element at Agora Advantage. You can find their mobile application in the iTunes App Store as well as on Google Play by searching “Agora Advantage”. Whether

Merchant Marketplace via the mobile app or over the web, you’ll find a plethora of valuable business services, all geared toward improving the efficiency of how a business operates while reducing expenses. Accessibility and ease of use is a key element at Agora Advantage. You can find their mobile application in the iTunes App Store as well as on Google Play by searching “Agora Advantage”.

However, you’ll also find some lesser known companies which are just making their way to market. Such as a groundbreaking review system that, plain and simple, helps a businesses get more customers. This one-of-a-kind system uses existing customers and the great services provided to sell to new customers. This powerful new technology allows a business owner to send a text or email to a satisfied client who in turn can give a video review or written review right from their Smartphone within seconds. Once a customer’s video, audio or written review is submitted, it is instantly posted to the SoTellUs business profile. From the profile it can be easily pushed out to social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter. Another great benefit is the power of this review to be found in top search results in the search engines. Perhaps one of the most fascinating solutions found in the Marketplace is Agora eCashflow services. The days of businesses relying on collection agencies to harass their customers in the event of a missed payment are a thing of the past with this solution. Agora helps its members process

Agora also has a food cost containment solution for the restaurant and hospitality industry which produces astounding results, allowing ordering managers to streamline their process in minutes rather than hours. This solution has a proven national average savings of more than 10.2% on food and dry good costs. “Agora Advantage is by far the most powerful resource and solution provider for the business owner I have ever seen. Not only is it a great resource but it also offers these popular and needful resources at discounted prices.” Says Vince Baker, Co-Author of On Target Marketing

OPPORTUNITY Not only is Agora Advantage helping business owners across the nation with business solutions but they have also created a platform where thousands of people can make a great living simply by referring businesses to Agora. This business model allows the Agora Member Advisor to help business owners by connecting them with multiple business solutions with the click of a mouse or a touch of a screen. To date, many of the members at Agora have opted to take a dual role as both a member and an advisor. This allows them to not only access the Merchant Marketplace, but also to monetize their network of like-minded colleagues and peers by showing them the power of inclusion. Agora Advantage is truly on the cutting edge of not only helping small to midsize business owners thrive, but also creating lasting residual incomes for its sales force.

EVELYN “CHAMPAGNE” KING ARTIST : DANCE/ POP/ CONTEMPORARY

Evelyn “Champagne” King is one of the few disco stars who successfully weathered the decline of disco to have more hits through the 1980’s. Not only did she manage to survive as a star into the 1980’s, she is still recording and touring frequently today. Evelyn was born into a musical family. She was born in The Bronx and her father, Eric King, performed often as a stand-in singer for various bands, occasionally at the legendary Apollo Theatre. Later, her family moved to Philadelphia, and 14-year-old Evelyn began performing professionally with a local band. At age 15, Evelyn’s big break came in storybook fashion. Legend has it she was working, subbing for her sister as a cleaning woman at Philadelphia’s Sigma Studios, and singing “A Change Is Gonna Come.” Soul producer T. (Theodore) Life, a former member of the band Instant Funk, heard her singing. He took her to RCA, signed her to a contract, and produced her first album Smooth Talk. The album included the disco smash “Shame.” She earned some notoriety as a teenager singing adult-themed songs in an adultsounding voice, but Evelyn was on her way. The follow-up, “I Don’t Know If It’s Right” was a major mid-tempo R&B hit. Evelyn had only minor success through the end of the 1970’s, but she began working with former B.T. Express member Kashif as her 24 HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

producer. The result in 1981 was “I’m in Love,” a #1 dance hit. She followed up with the Get Loose album in 1982 and another smash, the classic anthem “Love Come Down.” Kashif maintained an open, uncluttered production style that let Evelyn’s strong, rich voice shine through.

THE GIRL NEXT DOOR IS THE 10TH STUDIO ALBUM BY EVELYN “CHAMPAGNE” KING. THE ALBUM WAS RELEASED IN SEPTEMBER, 1989 THROUGH EMI RECORDS.

Evelyn continued to hit the charts through the rest of the early 1980’s. In the late 1980’s she left RCA for Manhattan Records. The result was another major hit with “Flirt.” At the time she was 28 years old and engaged to be married. Of her hit, she said “There’s too many diseases out there and too many people jumping into bed. My song is a way of telling them ‘Go through the flirting stage first’.”

King’s 1995 album The Girl Next Door is a celebration of this philosophy: a spirited, ear-opening 10-song platter that is all Evelyn. Produced by such luminaries as Leon Silver III and Gene Dozier, Nayan, Ten City, Marshall Jefferson, and her brother Johnny King, The Girl Next Door deftly showcases the versatile musical and vocal talent that has kept the artist among the most important female vocalists of the past decade. Charles was briefly A&R Director at Del-Fi Records where he co-produced the1961 hit “Those Oldies but Goodies (Remind Me of You)” by Little Caesar and the Romans. By 1964, he formed Charles Wright & the Wright Sounds (Barry White played the drums for them briefly) that evolved into Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band which included drummer James Gadson (lead singer of their hit “Loveland”) and guitarist Al McKay (later a key member of Earth Wind & Fire). Initially backing comedian Bill Cosby, this 8-piece ensemble of rhythm and horns became the first R&B band signed to Warner Bros. Records. Charles’ and the band’s best known number is the international crossover smash “Express Yourself ” (#3 R&B / #12 Pop), written, arranged and sung by Charles. Since the Summer of `70, the Grammy-nominated song has enjoyed a long and lucrative life for Wright; sampled by many rap artists (including groundbreaking “Straight Outta Compton” gangster rappers N.W.A); utilized in dozens of commercials for everything from Burger King fast food in America to Bitburger beer in Germany; used in many movies (including “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”); and, in sports, has been used by the PGA, the Summer Olympics and the NBA. Wright also re-arranged “Express Yourself ” for a public service campaign as “Protect Yourself,” a message to youth to use condoms that he performed at AMAZON.COM AND the first “AIDS Walk Circle of Life EXPRESSYOURSELF.NET Concert.” 1969’s “Do Your Thing” (a masterful edit of a jam recorded live at the Haunted House club in Hollywood in 1967), was memorably utilized in the 1997 film “Boogie Nights”.. FREDA PAYNE AMERICAN SOUL/R&B SINGER AND ACTRESS Freda Charcilia Payne is an American Soul/R&B singer and actress best known for her million selling 1970 hit single, “Band of Gold”. The multi-talented Freda Payne is best known for her singing career, yet she has also performed in musicals and acted in movies over the years, and was briefly the host of her own TV talk show. Born Freda Charcilia Payne on September 19, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, Payne developed an appreciation of music at an early age (due to such sultry jazz singers as Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Billie Holiday). Payne’s own musical career blossomed soon after, as she began early singing radio commercial jingles, which brought the young vocalist to the attention of several music-biz heavyweights. Although Payne never enjoyed another hit as substantial as “Band of Gold,” several other successful singles followed in the early ‘70s: “Deeper and Deeper,” “Cherish What’s Dear to You,” “You Brought the Joy,” and the Vietnam protest song “Bring the Boys Home.” Further albums followed throughout the ‘70s, including such titles as Contact,

Reaching Out, Payne & Pleasure, Out of Payne Comes Love, Stares & Whispers, Supernatural High, and Hot, which all failed to make an impression on the charts. Payne then switched her attention from music to TV, as she hosted her very own (yet short-lived) talk show in 1981, Today’s Black Woman. Payne continued to balance an acting and music career during the early 21st century, as she appeared in the 2000 Eddie Murphy comedy Nutty Professor II: The Klumps and the made-for-TV movie Fire & Ice, plus issuing an all-new album in 2001, Come See About Me. She returned in 2007 with the album On the Inside, which was a collection of her most personal songs. In 2009, she re-entered public consciousness with an appearance on American Idol, performing her most iconic song. In June 2014, she released a jazzinfluenced studio album entitled Come Back to COME BACK Me Love. ~ Greg Prato, Rovi.

Recognizing Rice as someone who’s carved out his niche in the business world, BlackEnterprise. com caught up with the sports entrepreneur to discuss his various ventures.

FRANK RICE TACKLES THE RESTAURANT BUSINESS AND HOLLYWOOD

One player who serves as a prime example of how to make a successful transition after retirement is business owner, artist, and modern day renaissance man Frank Rice. After his NFL career was cut short due to an injury, Rice utilized his entrepreneurial acumen, which he gained from his father who bought his first store when Frank was in high school, to build a business and brand that would sustain him long after retirement. During his football career you would have found Rice on the field on any given Sunday, but now, on any given Tuesday, he can be found engaging with customers at any one of the five Popeye’s restaurants in his family’s fast food empire. Other times, you may find “Fresh Frank,” as he was known on the TV One reality series The Ultimate Merger, with model Tocarra Jones, reading scripts, writing, acting, or producing music on his independent label Avari Music. 28 HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

Once I came back to California after playing football, I started going to the NFL Players Association meetings. Some of the guys are about 60- or 70-years-old. I was the youngest guy there but they made me feel welcome with feelings of football camaraderie and brotherhood. At one of the meetings, we were voting on some things and someone suggested getting some of the young guys more involved. They then chose me as Treasurer. My duties are related to anything financial that goes through the LA chapter. I hand out the checks, make sure the books are balanced, and report to the group at every meeting. It’s something that I take very seriously and I’m looking to develop the LA chapter and make it the best of them all. I’m sensitive to a lot of the players’ issues. Many times, with the pressures of the game and trying to focus on being a perfect player, you don’t really want to deal with a lot of the other stuff, including policies and procedures I oversee. It’s good to have someone that you trust, knows what you go through, and can give you the meat and bones of what you need to know. FOOD AND BEVERAGES COMPANY

BRENDA LEE EAGER LEGENDARY SOUL SINGER/SONGWRITER This incredible songstress and accomplished songwriter captivates audiences with a soulful delivery uniquely her own. Listen to Brenda and you’ll hear songs magically brought to life with a combination of down-home flavor and a slick uptown touch reflecting the influence of her upbringing in Alabama and Chicago. Brenda, who has worked with great artists such as Diana Ross, Roberta Flack, Smokey Robinson, Teena Marie, Donny Hathaway, Graham Nash, Ray Charles, Mavis Staples, Stevie Wonder, among many others, takes us back to a time when soul-filled singing, whether silky-smooth or raw and passionate, was the order of the day. Brenda, who started writing songs when she was in the third grade quotes “I started out writing poems. Short poems. But by the time I was in the fifth grade I was putting melodies to the words. By the time I was in the ninth grade I was writing stuff to sing for people. And by the tenth grade I had my own group, singing my songs in assemblies and hallways and anywhere people wanted to hear them.” Fellow singer songwriter Teena Marie credits Brenda Lee Eager as an influence in developing her own style; “The first time I heard Brenda Lee Eager I was sixteen years old and I was blown away by her range and yet sweet tone. I studied her records like I was in school. Brenda Lee was truly one of my teachers.” As a songwriter Brenda has written songs

for Bobby Womack, Mavis Staples and the Staples Singers, Pop Staples, Cliff Richard, The Manhattans, Gladys Night, Peaches and Herb, and recently a Platinum single with the artist formally known as Prince. Shirley Brown of “Woman to Woman” fame has recorded three of Brenda’s tunes. Aretha Franklin and so many others continue to request her material. Brenda was a member of Operation Push and became one of four soloists The Piperettes of Freedom, and a 21 piece Orchestra lead by Ben Branch who traveled the country with the Rev, Jesse Jackson and the movement, getting Black officials elected for the first time and getting people to vote also for the first time. Brenda’s first taste of Musical Theater was with Della Reese, who cast Brenda as one of the lead roles in her musical “The Message is in the Music”. Brenda performed in Europe where she co-starred with the legendary Blues singer Maine Weldon in the hit musical “Wild Woman Blues”. In addition, Brenda Lee has taught songwriting for the Quincy Jones STARTING OVER Workshop in Los Angeles, and today BRENDA LEE EAGER is a consultant for many aspiring songwriters.
