TRAVELING FOR PEACE A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN WHO IS DOING HER BEST TO MAKE

A DIFFERENCE TO IMPROVE THE STATUS OF WORLD CONDITIONS

4 HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT LIKE MINDED INDIVIDUALS MULTIPLY THE SENTIMENTS TO UNITE THE WORLD WITH LOVE AND PEACE. LOVE MAKES THE WORLD GO AROUND. IT IS ACTUALLY THE MOST POWERFUL WEAPON IN THE WORLD.

BY CARMELITA PITTMAN There are those who watch what is going on, those that want to know what is going on, and those who do their best to do something about what is going on. There is a beautiful woman who is doing her best to make a difference to improve the status of world conditions who is addressed by many titles. She has worn the description of philanthropist Queen of Beverly Hills, Global Peace Leader. She is a friend to the homeless, the disadvantaged. And now she continues to travel around the world making friends with global leaders and promoting peace, Queen Dame Dr. Munni Irone. In the the city of Gujarat, Prime Minister Modi oversaw a tree planting which she initiated in an historical garden. The tree planting was organized by the Honorary Sonal Joshi, an advocate and prominent public figure. This was also the occasion of their Independence Day in which Dame Munni Irone also raised the flag with other delegates. She attended an interfaith event in Mumbai where she was a special guest in the company of His Holiness Dalai Lama , Baba Ram Dev which was organized by Dr. Lokesh Muni, a global peace leader. Her next stop was Sri Lanka where she met with seven ministers, speakers of the Parliament who gave her a gift. A tree planting was held at the United Nations headquarters next to a statue of Ghandi. She was named as United Nations peace ambassador and governor by the United Nations group at that occasion. The following day a Peace Summit was held at the Hebron Eco University where she received an Honorary Doctorate degree and a gold medal. The highest honor was the naming of the campus after her. At that occasion she wore clothing designed by Charitt Wijesekera with make-up by Ayeasiha Wijesekera.

Ms. Irone and her counterparts have taken the mission of peace to heart. It is imperative that like minded individuals multiply the sentiments to unite the world with love and peace. Love makes the world go around. It is actually the most powerful weapon in the world.

With the spiritual awakening granted to Dame Irone from her Shifu mentor at age 7, then her second Shifu mentor, Dr. Hong of FOWPal Federation, she meditates daily, soaking in the higher spiritual vibration to take her to another dimension. Instead of teaching she shares her lifestyle of calmness and contentment. It is not by chance that she has joined forces with like-minded individuals on this planet. Her travels have taken her to many experiences and leaving a mark behind which continues to resonate with world leaders. While in London she experienced prejudice from a young individual but her response of peace and love startled and inspired the bystanders. She wishes such an attitude to help heal and lead by example. Included in her role as a peace leader she has initiated several tree plantings in the countries she has visited with the participation of large gatherings of those communities. While attending such events she has always represented a regal image and has worn original fashions created by top fashion designers from the various countries she has visited. While abroad she has become a media sensation, interviewed on television and covered in the press. With the blessings and collaboration of various global

leaders she is looking forward to a bringing about a Global Peace Festival Sept. 21, 2018. The slogan is “Our Heart to Your Heart, Love and Peace” and “We are One” which has become her mantra. She will seek collaboration of peace leaders to make this event a reality. She initiated this project last year when she traveled to Africa with Pepper Jay. She is currently also collaborating with the iconic Alston Koch, princess of Bollywood Jacqueline Hernandez. Amongst the individuals whose paths she crossed she wishes to acknowledge and thank Dr. Veneeta Kapoor, Normal That, Mr & Mrs. Ajay Raj Sumarji, Angel Salon CEO Rupa Chhetri.

Iconic Irish Brewer to Release Limited Time Brew for the U.S. and Host Celebrations On Its East and West Coasts for 200thAnniversary

T

he story begins on October 16th, 1817 with a single line in a brewer’s log. The handwritten note reveals the first eight barrels of Guinness beer – a exporter to be exact – meant for America would make their arrival in South Carolina. Ever since then, the bond between America and Ireland has continued to grow, from Irish immigrants searching for a better life to community leaders to, of course, Guinness and the countless pints – shared responsibly – with the people of the United States. The anniversary this fall is a celebration of a 200year love affair between a brewery and a people: Guinness and America. There’s no better time than now for the Guinness brand to say thank

you to America by introducing the limited-edition Guinness 200th Anniversary Export Stout; bringing back a few favorite stout releases for a festive variety pack; and hosting a pair of public events in New York City and Los Angeles. “Two things have always been at the heart of the Guinness brand since our founding in 1759: brewing great beer and sharing our story,” said Emma Giles, Guinness Brand Director. “When we started brewing beer for America 200 years ago, that story became a shared one. Now, every time you share a pint with someone else, another chapter begins.” Guinness 200th Anniversary Export Stout is the latest beer created by the Open Gate Brewery – the pilot brewery located at St. James’s Gate in Dublin – where Guinness brewers experiment with new styles and reinterpret historical brews. Inspired by a recipe Benjamin Guinness – the son of Arthur Guinness – originally developed in 1817, this beer is brewed with Black Patent Malt and Golding Hops and has a 6% ABV. “We took a look at that export stout’s recipe from 1817 in our brewing records and used that as our inspiration here, but it’s not just an homage to who we were as brewers then or who America was as a country,” said Peter Simpson, Head Brewer at the Open Gate Brewery in Dublin. “We’re also using this beer as a way to show how much we’re looking forward to the next 200 years. We knew it had to be special, and we really think this throwback recipe captures exactly what we wanted from 1817 all the way through 2017.” This October, Guinness will also release its newest limited-edition Guinness Draught cans, featuring artwork from the legendary Guinness ads from the 1930s and the 1950s that featured various zoo animals. Previous limited edition cans have featured the much-loved Guinness toucan and tortoise, among other works. The 200 Years of Stout in America Mixed Pack – also on its way from Guinness – will bring back a few favorite stout recipes to add to the festivities. The full list of celebratory releases includes: • Guinness 200th Anniversary Export Stout – A deep, dark, authentic export stout with smooth, rich flavor; brewed with Black Patent Malt. (MSRP: $8.99, 6-pack) • Guinness Limited-Edition Mount Rushmore Cans – Classic Guinness Draught stout in limitededition cans depicting everyone’s favorite toucans flying across the iconic American monument of Mount Rushmore from a rarely seen Guinness ad from the 1950s. (MSRP: $8.99, 8-pack) • Guinness 200 Years of Stout in America Mixed Pack

– A collection of brews in honor of America’s love of stouts – Guinness Original, 200th Anniversary Export Stout, Antwerpen Stout and Foreign Extra Stout – all of which have been exported to the U.S. over the past 200 years. (MSRP: $21.99, 12-pack) Along with Guinness 200th Anniversary Export Stout, these brews will be available in stores nationwide, as well as at 200th anniversary celebrations held in New York and Los Angeles this October. Guinness fans of legal drinking age in New York can sign up to attend here: Guinness Open Gate Public House. While the past 200 years are the reason for celebration, the next 200 years have even more possibility. The newest chapter in this IrishAmerican story will be set in Maryland, where the first Guinness brewery on U.S. soil in more than 60 years will open in 2018. The brewery’s name, the Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House, is a combination of the pilot brewery at St. James’s Gate and a nod to the plan for this new brewery to be a center for barrel-aging beer. The new home for Guinness in the U.S. will also be the permanent brewing site for Guinness Blonde American Lager and other new beers created specifically for the states. Whether you’re celebrating the 200th anniversary of Guinness in the U.S. or toasting to the next 200 years, please remember to drink responsibly.

How can you believe in a housewife who didn’t have any experience in running a business and who was trying to compete with manufacturing giants in the United States? Not the Philippines, but here in the United States. That’s a huge ambition, right? HW: Absolutely, it was. But you did it. That’s the satisfying part of this whole story. You did it. ELS: (completely giddy) Yes, yeah. I did it. HW: Were you afraid of failure? ELS: Honestly, I never thought of failing. See, my father came to the United States and stayed with me for about four months. And I never thought about failing because of how my father assured me that I was going to be successful. One day he went to the supermarket and bought a bunch of meat products. He brought them home and compared what he brought home to what he knows I can prepare. And he said that I can do much better than the other packaged products. He said that I could bring “Lapid Chicharon” here and that I’ll be okay. He believed in me. HW: Was it your father’s belief in you that kept you moving forward the whole time? ELS: Yeah, even when I was younger. He told me that if I pray and have faith in God, my business will be successful. And he was right. I appreciate my father’s belief in me. HW: That’s great that your father and your faith played a big role in your success. So, how old were you when you started your business? ELS: (chuckling) Most people don’t know how old I am because my looks are deceiving. They think I look so much younger than my real age.

HW: (chuckling) If you don’t want to share, it’s completely fine. I just thought I would ask because it might inspire those readers who may be using age as a reason to not follow their dreams. ELS: I understand. I’ll at least say this… I started my business in 2009. And I was born in 1955. So, how old was I when I started? HW: I didn’t see this coming. A word problem in the middle of an interview. (chuckling) My high school math teachers would be so excited. ELS: (laughing) The answer is 54. HW: You have just opened a door and the minds of so many people who feel their age is working against them when it comes to pursuing their endeavors. ELS: I’m glad. Because at the time I started, most people were telling me to keep my money and enjoy my retirement. “Go on vacation,” they would say. HW: Right. But you chose to dream. You chose to follow your ambition. ELS: I did, but it was stressful to start a business at that age. But I went ahead. And I feel proud that I did. By the way, Lapid is my father’s surname, which, if you recall, I use in the name of my restaurant and within my manufacturing company. I refer to myself as “Elena Lapid Salonga” out of respect for both my father and my husband. (chuckling) HW: (chuckling) I like that. Honor them both. I want to transition here. If you can describe yourself in three words, what would those three words be? ELS: Oh… hmm. I have to think about this. Do you want me to describe how I feel right now or the totality of who “Elena” is? HW: Just how you see your life the way it is right now… family, business, everything. Yes, I suppose I want you to share exactly what comes to mind when you think of the whole of who you are. ELS: I can say… happy… HW: What other two words come to mind? ELS: I’m not good with adjectives to describe myself. (chuckles) HW: Okay, well, what do you think about your family? About your business? ELS: As far as my business is concerned, where I am now… is at a level where I wasn’t expecting to be. I knew I would be successful because of my dad’s belief in me and because of my faith, but I didn’t expect to be this big. I was expecting just to have

FROM RUSSIA TO HOLLYWOOD

OXANA LOVICH BY: PRATHER JACKSON

HW: It is such a pleasure to speak to you. Can you tell us more about yourself? OL: Thank you very much. It is such a pleasure for me to be featured in your magazine. I was born in Russia. When I was very young I realized my true passion for acting. My biggest dream was to move to Los Angeles and become an actress. The first opportunity I had to get a visa I moved to the The United States. While in Los Angeles I have worked with some of the greatest Hollywood teachers including Diana Castle which afforded me the opportunity to work on so many great projects like the TV show Bosch. HW: Wow! You sound very brave. Leaving everything and coming to a new country is a very brave. Have you ever felt scared or regret your decision? OL: This was one of the biggest challenges of my life to leave my homeland, my family and my friends, everything I was so familiar with and love, to venture out and go to an unknown country. I was scared for sure but I have never regretted being here. I knew I had to do this and I knew this was my destiny. I am a very spiritual person with a strong sense and understanding of my intuition. 26 HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

Because of this self awareness I knew moving to Los Angeles would be the best place for my growth and success. Long before I stepped on the plane to come to Los Angeles in my soul I knew this was the right decision for me. My first day in America confirmed everything. I had an overwhelming sense of inner peace and joy I knew without question that this was my new home. I felt so happy, so passionate, so grateful for the opportunity to be here that finally the beginning of my lifelong dream had come true. HW: I know that in addition to being a great actress, you are also a life coach. How did you decide to become a life coach? Is it easy to have two professions? How do you do it? OL: I have worked hard and have learned a great deal from my personal experiences in acting and in life. Life coaching is a natural outgrowth of me wanting to help others achieve the successes that I have. I love helping people have a better life, and feel I have a lot to offer. I have always felt attracted to spiritual books and spiritually evolved people. I knew that at some point in my life I needed to share it, and that is when I decided to become a life coach. I believe that my life coaching experiences impact my art only in positive ways due to everyday learning about people and life.

I SIMPLY ENJOY THE JOURNEY NOT THE DESTINATION

HW: It is very interesting for me to know about acting. Do you have any preferences what roles you would like to play? What kind of movies you would like to be featured in?

HW: What do you like the most about acting is Hollywood? After watching the movie LA LA Land I have learned it is not the easiest business, and it is very competitive. Does it ever stop you?

OL: I have strong values as an actress. I am a positive person and believe I have a responsibility to the world to portray that message therefore, I am very careful about the roles I play. I understand that every role has an impact on the world in some way so I choose the roles that have the most positive impact .Â

Oxana. I am very passionate about acting. I absolutely love it, that is why I never view this as a competition. When I go to any audition I am grateful for the opportunity to play a part and enjoy living in a different imaginary world. I simply enjoy the journey not the destination. HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY 27

How it all began... With 30 plus years of experience, Keith Barrows, the Londonian founder of 360 Studios, started out as an engineer and mixer for artists such as Ozzy Ozbourne, U2, Ray Charles, Black Eyed Peas, Rage against the Machine and on shows such as Michael Jackson’s Earth Song, Kill Bill, BANG BANG and The Sopranos. As the supervisor of all the media initiatives of the Sinatra family, he worked in production management touring with major artists like Nancy Sinatra and The Commodores in venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Dodgers Stadium.

Barrows recently decided to start working on his own projects and met his key partner and gifted musician Larry Andrew. About 360 Films... 360 Films is currently working on various independent feature films and TV shows including Alastor, Gangsters Wives, Untitled Basket Ball Movie, Koba and TV Shows including SOCAL K911, Edgers and Campus Angels. Not to mention teaming up with Michael Dinco, producer and creator of the hit show Pit Bulls and Parolees 2009 to 2017. Director, screenwriter and producer Raphaello Kotziamanis, with Highgate Films, will be directing three of these projects. The first one, Alestor, is a high-action, fantasy thriller that will be shot in China with senior production advisor Michael Tse. Another project, “Koba,” will have a world-class director, is about a Russian leader happening prior to the 1917 Revolution. The film will be announced soon. Stan Divranos of 360 Studios sports division explains, “The creative team at 360 Studios is currently in the pre-production phase of a sports film project that is sure to be a hit. Under the directional brilliance of Keith Barrows, we’ve managed to put together a cast of talented young actors to showcase a heartwarming achievement story with a twist that is not typically encountered in the American sports world. Included in the cast is 7’6” professional basketball player Mamadou Ndaiye and former collegiate athlete Deji Wesey. We each contribute unique stories to incorporate into the script with the help of writer and director Ron Pucillo and actor producer Lance Manibog. At this moment, I can say the film will be a lot of fun and a great inspiration to athletes of all ages. It’s a very exciting time to be involved with such a dynamic, diverse, and inclusive company. 360 Studios and Hollywood Weekly will put a lot of talented actors on the map and get a lot of content creators in the frame. About Hollywood Weekly Magazine... Established in 2001, the “Hollywood Weekly” trademark has evolved into a global media company. Founded by Prather Jackson, publisher of the monthly periodical, “Hollywood Weekly Magazine, today the brand also includes the Hollywood Weekly Film Festival and Hollywood Weekly Asia. “Giving Shelter” Architects & Celebrities Including Clint Eastwood, Jay Leno & William Shatner Accept Challenge to Help Homeless Cats Architects for Animals “Giving Shelter” Event October 19 in Southern California’s Culver City to Benefit Local Non-Profit FixNation

ABOUT FIXNATION FixNation is an award-winning Los Angeles-based non-profit that supports TrapNeuter-Return (TNR) programs for homeless cats. ne of this year’s most innovative design events, Architects for Animals® “Giving Shelter” exhibit, returns to the Herman Miller Showroom in Culver City on Thursday, October 19th 2017. The event is expected to be a sold-out fundraiser for LA-based non-profit FixNation, which provides free spay/neuter services for the city’s skyrocketing population of homeless cats.

“Giving Shelter” Exhibit & Cocktail Reception Thursday, October 19th, 2017 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm HermanMiller Showroom 3641 Holdrege Avenue Los Angeles CA 90016 $50 General Admission

LA’s top architecture and design firms as well as individual architects and designers have been invited to design, build and donate one-of-a-kind and functional outdoor dwellings for cats. Shelters will be displayed at a cocktail reception attended by the public, VIPs and media representatives. Also on display: cat food bowls decorated by feline-loving celebrities such as Jay Leno, Beau Bridges, Elvira, William Shatner, Clint Eastwood, Eric Dickerson, Tricia Helfer and Morgan Fairchild, which will be available for purchase via an online auction. “These cat shelters are absolutely remarkable,” says FixNation’s Co-Founder and Executive Director Karn Myers. “They will help raise awareness about homeless cats and provide practical solutions that can be implemented throughout our community.” This year’s event has added significance as the organization honors Myer’s late husband, Mark Dodge. The couple cofounded FixNation 10 years ago.

Los Angeles is home to one of the nation’s largest populations of homeless felines, an estimated one to three million cats. FixNation is a model for successful TrapNeuter-Return (TNR) and humane colony management programs across the country and around the world.

“Many communities use lethal methods in an attempt to control the population of stray, abandoned and feral cats. Such methods are not only horribly cruel, they simply don’t work,” explains Myers. “We founded FixNation because we believe TNR is a much more effective and compassionate alternative. Our mission is to manage colonies of homeless ‘community cats’ and gradually reduce their number through humane sterilization.” Participating design firms this year include: Abramson Teiger Architects; d3architecture; ES-EN-EM; HLW; HKS; HOK; Knowhow Shop; Kollin Altomare Architects; RNL; and Standard Architecture | Design.

ABOUT ARCHITECTS FOR ANIMALS® Architects for Animals® by Feral Design Group LLC is an awareness raising initiative that plans one-night events benefiting select animal welfare organizations. Participating architecture and design firms as well as individual architects and designers design, build and donate creative outdoor shelters to provide animals with refuge from the elements.
