KNOWLEDGE, DEDICATION & TEAMWORK Introducing the Feature Film

‘JUNKERS’ Mr. Miyagi once said, “Ambition without knowledge is like a boat on dry land”.

With the knowledge, ambition, dedication & teamwork of Jeff Jeds, Jose Diaz Jr., Larry Elisdale, Nick Nielsen & William Ford, the feature film ‘Junkers’ has always been destined for success. With Jeff’s knowledge and extensive experience in martial arts, Nicks writing capabilities, Larry & Jose’s film making experience & Williams love of film, acting & martial arts, this dream team has come together to create a thrilling, sci-fi feature that will be loved by Star Wars fans, and karate kids alike. Their combined knowledge and experience take this film to a whole new level, and as it makes its way through film festivals around the country, we have no doubt that when it comes to the success of this movie, the sky is the limit. Born in the Philippines, and then moving to the San Fernando Valley at the age of 10, Jeff Jeds started martial arts training at a very young age. He was 8 years old when he first learned boxing and practical self-defense, being taught by his father and uncle, who were both in the military. When Jeff moved to the United States, he extended his experience of martial arts, moving on to Tae Kwon Do-Hapkido, Muay Thai, Krav Maga, and Shotokan Karate. In his quest for greater knowledge, he began training with Robert and Ben Torres, who were the founders of the Kuroi-Samurai Shotokan Karate-Do. During his time with the Torres brothers, Jeff also joined the US chapter of the Karate Arnis Federation of the Philippines (KAFEPHIL), under the founder and president Dr. Guillermo “Doc” Barcelona Lengson. Dr. Lengson taught Jeff the Black Banders fighting system, which later was renamed by Jeff: “Lengson Karate Arnis,” known in the Philippines as “KAFEPHIL style;” and is a modernized form of Karate-Kickboxing and Arnis. Although Jeff trained in many forms of martial arts, analyzing and comparing the different styles and systems, ultimately, it was the training methods of the Torres brothers and Dr. Lengson, which he felt to be the most 4 • HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

scientifically correct and realistically effective for both physical conditioning and attaining versatility in martial arts. With this in mind, Jeff began teaching people using a new approach to the martial arts, which integrated methods based on both Dr. Lengson’s system and the Torres brothers’ methods, in conjunction with techniques from other systems he had studied over the years, along with his experience in both competition and actual street fights. In the year 2000, the Jedokan Institute was founded, establishing a family-oriented school that focused on teaching practitioners to become versatile and self-actualized. The many arts taught at this school are collectively referred to as Chen Tai Do. In addition to the systems taught by Dr. Lengson and the Torres brothers, this approach also includes elements of Leo Fong’s Wei Kuen Do/Chi Fung; Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do; T.Y. Wong’s Sil Lum Kung Fu; and Lau Bun’s Choy Lay Fut. With a rich history and broad base of technical diversity, the Way of the Versatile Warrior continues to grow through the use of sophisticated and effective training methods.

Chief Instructor Jeff Jeds is a skilled teacher imparting wisdom, guidance, helpful feedback, and challenging training programs. As the founder of the Jedokan Institute, he is committed to providing the skills and training needed for students to be successful in all of life’s ventures. He is dedicated to this labor of love and to providing a safe, comfortable, familial atmosphere, which has been the catalyst for Chen Tai Do’s explosive growth. The dedicated students of the Jedokan Institute span many races members of a humble, caring, supportive family. Here, Jeff has created a safe place for kids and adults to develop their minds, bodies, and spirits while learning to walk the path of righteousness, strength, and discipline. In 2011, Jeff had the honor of meeting martial arts legend Leo Fong, who was a training partner and close friend of Bruce Lee. The relationship between Sifu Leo Fong and Jeff may be best described as father and son, as well as training partners and best friends. Leo had the opportunity to train in some of the world's most powerful systems, with some of the world's most accomplished martial artists, including Choy Lay Fut with Lau Bun; Sil Lum with T.Y. Wong; and Jeet Kune Do with Bruce Lee, and, together with Jeff, founded a lineage that embraced this history—as well his own arts of Wei Kuen Do and Chi Fung—and was intended to extend out into the future under Jeff’s leadership.

The unification of these arts with Jeff’s existing system (Jedokan) led to the establishment of a new martial arts system: Chen Tai Do–Way of the Versatile Warrior. Jeff was assisted in creating this system by two close friends and training partners: James Santi and a colleague whose current line of work requires that he be identified only by his Chen Tai Do name: Bì Àn. The direction of Chen Tai Do will be governed by the Allied Warriors Organization, which was formed in March 2022, by Jeff “Yá Zì” Jeds (Founder); James “Suān Ní” Santi (10th dan); Bì Àn (10th dan); Klein “Qiú Niú” Buen (co-founder of WKD, Jedokan instructor); and Manny “Bì Xì” Sanchez (co-founder of Jedokan, WKD instructor) with the objective of uniting everyone through discipline, brotherhood, and martial arts. Inspired by James Dean, Mr. Miyagi, Keanu Reeves & Johnny Depp, Jeff tells us the advice he would share with aspiring youth is “set realistic goals and accomplish them with honor and loyalty”. He strives to be a good example to the community, and often holds anti-bullying and anti-rape seminars, as well as seminars for women, and security guards.

Although the idea behind the film came from director and co-writer Nick Nielson, it’s needless to say that Jeff’s experience in the martial arts world has ultimately been the backbone of ‘Junkers’. With a shared love of sci-fi, action films and martial arts, both Nick and Jeff have considered ‘Junkers’ their baby for quite a while. From childhood, Nick has always wanted to work in the film industry. He moved around a lot, spending time in Texas, Oregon, Washington, and California. But through all his travels, he always had a great love, and passion for movies, and as a child would often find joy in his parents’ cam cord. He then went on to be a part of the television production crew at his high school, and ultimately went on to attend film school in Seattle, Washington. After he completed film school, Nick landed an internship at Perfect Storm Entertainment, which was founded by Justin Lin who is responsible for franchises such as Fast & Furious and Star Trek. With ‘A Junkers Tale’ as his debut feature film, Nick has also created a short for the prequel, titled ‘Lucky Knight’. Both stories are set in the far future and are based around a salvage crew of planet jumpers who are former soldiers. These everyday ‘blue collar’ workers are far from heroes, but when they are attacked by a group of scavengers, they quickly prove that they are not to be underestimated. The first draft of the film was written in 2016 and was at first glance more like a television series. Nick felt it wasn’t ready, or good enough, so he continued to work on it, and in 2018 created the first movie draft. In 2019, they were able to shoot the opening scene, and when they showed the visuals to investors, it quickly got the attention it deserved. But then, the worldwide pandemic of Covid-19 hit, and everything was put on hold. But there was no time wasted, and during this time of unknown, and that’s when the prequel “Lucky Knight’ was created. Ultimately, in 2021 the team was able to wrap the feature ‘Junkers’ and it is now making its way through the film festival world. One of the producers, and longtime friend of Nicks, Larry Elisdale has also been a longtime sci-filover. So, when he was presented with the opportunity to be a part of ‘Junkers’ it felt right. Growing up in Fresno, California, Larry’s love for movies and filmmaking goes back as far as he can remember. In high school, he experienced divine intervention when his class had the opportunity to hear from guest speaker Gray Frederickson, who is a producer of The Godfather franchise. Ultimately, this encounter inspired Larry to pursue his career in film further, and he enrolled in film school in western Oklahoma. Larry always had a desire to create sci-fi films, and had a love for comedy, as well as martial arts. So, when he met Jeff Jeds in 2018, his love and interest for martial arts grew that much deeper, and their meeting seemed to be yet another divine intervention in his life. Larry’s experience in filmmaking was truly a pillar of both the shorts, as well as the feature film. 6 • HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

We also had the pleasure of speaking with William Christopher Ford, who is an actorand producer of ‘Junkers’. He tells us “There is no ego in martial arts”, and because of that he has had a long love for his idols, Bruce Lee, Han Solo and Harrison Ford. With heroes like that, and an introverted personality, starting martial arts at 7 years old truly helped William break out of his shell. So, when Jeff reached out to him to fil some scenes in ‘Junkers’, he was thrilled, and his excitement continued when the role was expanded. Going into it with the mindset of ‘just wanting to help’, his martial arts training ended up playing a vital role in the end result of the film. You may have seen him in the 1989 film Karate Kid III, where he played a Cobra Kai henchman. After his role in such a big-name film, William shifted his focus back to martial arts, and eventually opened a school of martial arts called Kaizen Dojo in Torrance, California. ‘Kaizen’ translates to Continued Improvement, which William tells us is “what we all strive for”, and we couldn’t agree more. He tells us “My students are my greatest teachers” and explains that his st dents keep his inner child alive, which is an important part of being an actor. When the pandemic hit, he had to close the Dojo for 2 weeks until continuing classes on zoom. During this time, he was able to reconsider his acting career, and had the opportunity to be a part of a team he respected. He tells us he is very grateful for the opportunity. He goes on to say “It was such a blast to be able to play the villain and bring a little of my own personal flare that wasn’t in the script, and I think surprised everyone”. William also directed a documentary short titled ‘The Last Dojo’, which he holds very close to his heart. The documentary is a “love letter” to a karate master whose Dojo was taken from him due to eminent domain. The inspirational tale takes us on a journey of the Dojo, which ultimately is seen like a spiritual being. When we take a step back and look at the meaning of films, and martial arts we see that at their core they’re not so different. They are both ways of bringing people together, and inspiring. Jeff Jeds didn’t realize his dream of making movies until long after his love of martial arts began. However, when he saw how he could inspire others, all while being a good role model, and example to his community it seemed to happen so flawlessly with his morals and values of life. For Jeff, the money and the fame were never the goals. It was the true & sincere friendships that were priceless to him. When he saw how films could inspire peace and love, as well as bring people together, he took his love and knowledge of martial arts and combined it with the entertainment industry to do what he does best, lead, inspire and motivate, and we can’t wait to see where else his talents will lead him on his journey. Conversations With Our Authors The Velocity Mindset: How Leaders Eliminate Resistance, Gain Buy-in, and Achieve Better Results—Faster by Ron Karr From the author of Lead, Sell, or Get Out of the Way comes a game-changing guide to help everyone in a leadership position eliminate resistance, gain buy-in, and achieve better results— faster! Everyone knows what qualities define a great leader, but how many of us know what steps to take to become that leader ourselves? The secret formula is what sales and leadership coach Ron Karr calls the Velocity Mindset: a perfect balance of speed and direction, both of which must remain in alignment for personal and professional success. Utilizing anecdotes and Karr’s 30-plus years of experience, The Velocity Mindset® offers innovative and practical strategies to differentiate yourself from the competition, increase your profits, and get to the next level of success, faster.

Q&A WITH RON KARR Q:What is the Definition of Velocity? A:Everyone thinks Velocity is all about speed. It is not! If that is all you think it is you probably are in danger of experiencing burnout. The Physics Definition of Velocity is Speed + Direction. Direction is the goal we want to achieve. Direction is critical as it drives our decision-making process and ensures we do not waste time on tasks that are not germane to the cause.

Q:What advice can you give someone struggling to get into the “right mindset” as described in The Velocity Mindset®? A:Figure out what you want to achieve. Then work your way backwards and identify three things that need to happen to get there. Identify the right actions and timelines. Hold yourself accountable and pivot when necessary. We tend to energize ourselves around initiatives that we are passionate about. Find your passion because nothing will stop you then. Q:What was your favorite part of the writing process while working on The Velocity Mindset®? A:When the Pandemic lockdown started,

I decided not to go after the virtual keynotes as all meetings were shut down. While requests still came in, I decided to write The Velocity Mindset® and post daily videos to my tribe. The best part about this was it kept me sane and on task about what truly is important in life-achieving the important things we want out of life. Q:What is your next big project you’re working on? A:Spreading The Velocity Mindset® through Velocity Mindset Ninjas. These are individuals who are influential in their organizations or markets, align with The Velocity Mindset® and have a passion for driving The Velocity Mindset® throughout the entire organization. A:The 9 tools were developed as an empowerment curriculum for women that I have been teaching in workshops since 2008. These 9 tools were my personal roadmap to transforming my own life. At one point, I was struggling to find happiness both at work and in my relationships. I just knew there must be a better way to live life and to relate to the world and other people. I did a lot of research and investigation into a variety of ideologies, thought processes and teachings and applied what I learned. The 9 tools are the distillation of my personal path to success and it was important for me to share them with women of the world.

Q: What was your writing process like while working on your book? A: Well, this book has been in the idea stage for quite some time. I began getting requests to write the book from women who had taken the workshop and I thought it was a great idea. I think traditionally people write a book and then turn it into a course, but The Quinn Essentials came into being as a live course and so my challenge was to translate this dynamic, energetic and often life changing workshop into an equally empowering solo journey for the reader. Honestly, yes, it seemed like a daunting task and I didn’t do it overnight. I really practiced patience, not wanting to rush the process when it didn’t feel right. I practiced my own tools, connected with the right people, listened and although it took a number of years, it really feels like it happened in its own perfect timing.

Q: Why is empowering women important to you? A: When the Dahli Lama said, “The world will be changed by the western woman.” That was a turning point for me. When he said that, it struck something in me, I realized that I could make a difference, that all women can make a difference and create a better world. It will take all of us, because there are so many areas in the world that need our help. So for me helping women step back into their power and accomplish their dreams became part of my mission.

You’ve Met Your Match. I

Meet UnFiltered.

t’s five o’clock on Friday, time to get off, but home is the only place to go. You’re tired of getting tables for one, being the third wheel, ordering Chinese food at home and catching up on an embarrassing amount of Netflix series that you fit in between your busy schedule. You’ve tried dating apps to no avail- so much time wasted on fake accounts, bots...and even worse, the fret of being “catfished” once again. You find a “match” and they seem nice until one of two things happens... the infamous unsolicited pic, you’re stuck in the never-ending loop of messages, or even the eventual request of money. There is now a dating app that made it their mission to fix everything you ever hated about dating apps. Transparency is the founding reason behind the creation of the UnFiltered Dating app. In fact, co-founder Genesis Assulin believes so strongly in the importance of transparency she made it their name- UnFiltered. Every profile is taken in real time with a date stamp through the in-app camera embedded in the app software prohibiting an upload feature unless part of the lifestyle news feed. Eliminating filters is the foundation of this dating app. They have created a dating revolution by providing a platform for true genuine connections and by revamping the online dating experience with unique built-in features that promote and cultivate 20 • HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

a safe, transparent, UnFiltered environment. Their users can be the person they were always supposed to be- themselves. How many times have you walked into a “blind date” or met someone for the first time from a dating profile only to discover they didn’t look the same as their profile picture. Although looks aren’t everything, trust is important. UnFiltered’s motto, “Real People. Real Love.” does just that. No more meeting the 10-year alumni version of the college snapshot of your match, UnFiltered secures you are talking to a verified version of their true and current self! UnFiltered strives to offer a safer community to their users. A deeper dive behind the scenes into the development side of the app includes an integrated technology that uses 8 factors to verify user accounts. Some of these verification methods includes verifying images, emails used to create user profiles, phone number and the user’s location to name a few. This technology, that was introduced via a partnership with some of the most secure platforms across the globe, is how UnFiltered is able to prevent fake and misleading identities for users. Once authenticated, the verified profile is issued a seal, reassuring the user that they’re messaging a real person.

As if this wasn’t enough to set them apart from every other dating app on the market, other features are integrated into the UnFiltered app to make sure that your virtual dating experience is quality above quantity. Where other competitive apps have the bad reputation of being for “hook-ups”, UnFiltered has introduced limited matches. This allows you to match with up to 5 potential dates at a time, ensuring that you have meaningful connections with focused communication. This feature paired with our In-app communication opportunities (in-app camera and in-pp Video) ensures your private information is protected until you choose to communicate outside the app. They have also paired with Google to integrate with your calendar and even allows users to use GPS to make the convenience of planning a date with your match simple and convenient. Plan your date, location and date time all within the app! Once the request is accepted, the app sends reminders to your app notifications, updates any changes you or your match makes, directions to get you there on time! Your life may be busy, but UnFiltered has thought of unique and innovative ways to make dating simple and easy again! UnFiltered is not just another dating app, in fact, UnFiltered wants to be the last dating app anyone ever has to use by being the conduit for Real People to find Real Love.

UnFiltered is passionate about its mission statement and that is “To foster a secure community who values the ideals and principles of real love. To live in anticipation, believing that there are more good people that could benefit from a mode of transparency.”

She has photographed award-winning feature films, television shows, and commercials. She also lensed Home Before Dark (pilot and season one) for Apple TV+, Paramount TV, and Anonymous Content. Brooks' feature film credits include Queen Bees with director Michael Lembeck, starring Ellen Burstyn and James Caan. She also worked on the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of The Remix Hip Hop X Fashion with directors Farah Khalid and Lisa Cortes. Known for her dramatic lighting and powerful camera movement, Brooks underscored her skills in Paramount's The LXD (directed by Jon M. Chu) and Tainted Love (directed by Avi Youabian). AdAge described The LXD as one of the most beautifully filmed, elaborately staged web series in the history of the medium. Her recent feature projects include director Jon M. Chu's adaptation of the hit musical Wicked and the adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical In The Heights for Warner Brothers. The film's cinematography received widespread critical acclaim. Her newest project is tick, tick...BOOM! Directed by Miranda and produced by Ron Howard, the Jonathan Larson musical tells the story of an aspiring composer who struggles to pursue his dreams in New York City in 1990.

By Alex A. Kecskes

Q: Thank you for taking the time for this interview. What drew you to tic, tic, Boom!? A: I got the script on my last day working on The Heights. Reading the script, I said, these could be scenes out of my childhood. I grew up in New York in the 80s. My father was a playwright and my mother was a dancer. Our house was filled with my father’s artist friends. We had all these creative people over all the time. There was just so much joy, love, and art around. When I read the script, I realized Jonathan was just like my father. I’d watched my dad’s heartbreak over and over as he tried to make it as a playwright in New York. When I got to the last page of the script, I said, I have to shoot this movie. So I interviewed with Lin (director Lin-Manuel Miranda) and brought in my lookbook to show that I had lots of ideas to bring to the table. The first page of my lookbook was just pictures of my childhood. It took Lin a minute to realize these were my childhood pictures and not just references I’d pulled off the Internet. He said it doesn’t get more personal than that. We started talking about New York in 1990, where color, light, and emotions were all heightened. We were both ten years old that year and we wanted the movie to have the 90s New York feel from a childlike perspective. In Jonathan's mind, the line between dreams and reality is sometimes blurred. Q: What was the biggest challenge you faced in shooting tick, tick, Boom?

Q&A

A: The pandemic. We prepped the movie for fourteen weeks, shot for two weeks, and were shut down for six months. When we came back, we were one of the first movies to do so. The movie was ripped out from under us. All our lives changed when it shut down. The challenge after being told to come back was how to make a movie during a pandemic. So we all had to learn together. We had the most amazing group of people. We did another two months of prep and 42 days of shooting. Since theater season was closed, we were able to perform in the theater where Jonathan performed. It became a remarkably intimate and moving experience. Q: You had to shoot in the confines of a bookstore with narrow aisles? Challenges? A: That was tricky. It was a real bookstore in New York. All our locations were really small. We wanted to be true to what New York was in 1990. We had to figure out how to move our camera through that space. We even shot a dance number in that space. The swimming pool was also quite small. You also had to shoot inside a small house and a New York apartment. Again, challenges in setup and lighting? A: I loved that apartment. It reminded me of when I was a kid. We wanted Andrew (Garfield) to have as much freedom as possible so he wasn’t confined to a certain part of the apartment. I HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY • 25

also wanted to have the right sun path and the light bouncing off the buildings across the street. It was both intimate and claustrophobic. When you go into numbers like No-More and Sunday and Swimming, there’s a breadth, a grandness, a space. Andrew is so stuck in that apartment, so you feel the walls sort of caving in on him. Q: And there was the diner scene, which looked busy and cramped. How did you manage that? A: We wanted it to feel chaotic. And because of Covid, we couldn’t pack the diner and have several cameras running. We only had a certain amount of ventilation and space. We packed the frames then shot them in different sections. It was very time-consuming. But it felt like a Sunday morning. Then when the wall comes down, we had the brightest scene in the entire movie. Q: How do you compose a scene to draw out the most emotion the script calls for? A: What’s interesting about working with Lin is that he brought in this idea of workshopping. It’s very specific to theater and to our film set period. He didn’t need all the ideas right away. It was a discovery process. Usually, it’s the storyboard artist and director who sit down, draw out a scene, and create a shot list from that. But Lin had a group of people—including the production designer, the AD, and the writer—working together. The six of us

would sit for three or four hours a day and work out a scene. I never had a writer so readily available. He’d be there with us and rewrite stuff on the spot. And the production designer would have models of the set and show us things that Lin could create, giving us ideas for shots. It was a very organic process of discovery without anything being forced on us. We also had a very long prep period, given the size of this movie. I would take the storyboards and cut them to the pre-recorded music and animatics. And again, we would discover more things about what was working and what wasn’t. Q: When you typically shoot a film, do you sometimes go off script and let your gut take over? A: That was part of the process. We’d see things in the script and realize what was or wasn’t working. One of the things we discovered during prep was the swimming pool had what looked like paper lines at the bottom. The tile in the pool was this beautiful patina New York tile that you only find in old city buildings. We found this perfectly positioned 30 at the bottom of the pool and Lin said, what if Jonathan touches the number 30—an age he is so scared of turning. So that’s how the music appeared in swimming. It represented a single moment of genius for Jonathan. Q: How do you use camera movement to draw out the most emotion from a scene? A: It’s very intuitive. I’d watch dance

rehearsals and part of it is the storyboard process. We had Andrew with us from the very beginning. I would sit in on the rehearsals and just watch as Andrew turned into Jonathan. I think being a good director is getting everyone on board to capture a vision. Lin did that with everyone. He really inspired everyone to understand the movie we were making. So that emotion came from watching eight years of videotape of the real Jonathan Larson. And watching other workshops of the 80s and 90s. We fully immersed ourselves in that world. I also always ask a director for the intention in a scene. I grew up as a child actor, so I liked the idea of giving the camera a direction the same way you'd give an actor. This is why I always ask for one emotion per scene. In asking that, I'm able to tell the story emotionally and use the camera accordingly. Q: I particularly enjoyed the dancers in white on stage. How did you first approach that and did you end up shooting it that way or make changes? A: I loved that scene. It was designed as a single shot. In editing, they cut back to Jonathan’s monologue in the New York theater workshop. We worked with the choreographer to develop that whole sequence and give a subtle lighting queue on Jonathan. It pinpoints the fact that we are in his world, in his story, and everything will be told from Jonathan’s point of view. Q: Any words of wisdom for young cinematographers trying to break into the business? A: I wish that film schools would tell people they need to be in this business at least a decade before they make any money. It takes a long, long time to break into this business. One of my professors once said Hollywood is like a brick wall. Your job is to get to the other side and you do it by throwing bricks against the wall. One day, you'll see just a tiny hole in the wall and that's when you'll want to give up. That’s when you need to push harder because you’re closer than you think. I think this is true for any career in the arts. If you’re not completely in love with this job, find something else. Movie making is hard but it’s also the best thing in the world.

Yoshinobu “Yoshi” Kosaka owned by the French fashion designer Christian Audigier will head to online auction on May 12 and 13 at Abell Auction Co. in Los Angeles. Inspired by his love of rock ‘n roll, Audigier’s career began in his native France and skyrocketed in the U.S. after he licensed the designs of San Francisco tattoo artist Don Ed Hardy in the early 2000s. At the height of his success, he attracted A-list celebrities to skyrocket the popularity of the Ed Hardy and Von Dutch fashion lines that he helmed. Audigier achieved global fame for the rhinestone-studded and graffiti-inspired artwork that decorated hats, T-shirts, jackets, shoes and a vast array of other licensed products. Abell Auction Co. will make history with a rare offering of art, fashion, books, celebrity memorabilia, customized motorcycles and high-end goods from the designer’s private collection. Many sale items from Audigier’s sprawling Los Angeles-area estate are showcased in the 2018 documentary entitled “Christian Audigier the Vif,” which journeys through Audigier’s life after being diagnosed with an aggressive type of blood cancer. He passed away at age 57 in July 2015, leaving behind an iconic fashion legacy. 30 • HOLLYWOOD WEEKLY

“Christian selected every item with exceptional care and passion, and had a quintessential eye for fashion and design,” said Vincent Audigier, nephew of the late designer. “Nothing was random. Everything he owned was the very best and represented his unique lifestyle. Christian loved being the life of the party and the center of attention, and celebrities wanted to be around him.” Audigier shared a close friendship with French singer and actor Johnny Hallyday, and owned a large collection of his memorabilia that will be offered at auction, including a stage-worn, metal-studded leather jacket mounted in an acrylic case. Signed photographs, performance guitars, gold records and books also will be sold. Highly anticipated auction items include two custom vintage Harley-Davidson motorcycles, including a one-of-a-kind, personalized Bobber designed by motorcycle legend Yoshinobu “Yoshi” Kosaka at L.A.’s iconic vintage bike shop The Garage Company. PRESIDENT BIDEN'S LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Carmelita

PITTMAN

Celebrated her birthday with God given gifts and blessings

I

t so happens that March 8 is International Women's Day. It is also my birthday and I am celebrating all throughout March. In fact every day that I open my eyes and can see my husband of 46 years, Jerry Pittman , next to my side is cause for celebration. He ventured with me to the exclusive Morgan Run Club & Resort in Rancho Santa Fe not far from San Diego. It is a paradise for golf aficionados with grounds covering several acres. In fact the event for International Women's Day organized by Sharon Doyle was held on those very lush green grounds in a monumental tent complete with chandeliers. This event was attended by nearly 200 ladies, including at least 30 female Marines, and at least two ladies who served in the armed forces during World War 2. That was the time I was still a twinkle in my mother and father's eye but made my entrance soon into the real world. This birthday was beyond my expectations. I had been invited to sing with members of the San Diego Chamber Orchestra directed by John Nettles. I also had the pleasure of meeting an amazing opera singer, Hiroko Yoshinaga as well as Tanae, a young talented singer from Canada, also the lovely Gennine Jackson Trencie who delivered a Whitney Houston number. Before this luncheon event I was interviewed on the red carpet by T.V. host Rosalyn Kahn and whisked off into a room for an interview with podcast radio host Margo Lovett. During the course of the event I noticed Helice Bridges, a feisty octogenarian with white hair dressed in blue who danced exuberantly

and made a presentation of blue ribbons to promote unity through the power of love. Many ladies were honored with beautiful blown glass trophies. I was also surprised with one. Later in the evening my husband and I after resting in our suite at the resort attended the GSFE (Global Society of Female Entrepreneurs) dinner event. This organization was founded by Robbie Motter and enhances and empowers the lives of women. It has 25 chapters throughout the States, Canada and recently opened another in London. I learned that I was the only singer and only honoree. My friends of many years Giovanni Vignati of Italy and his lovely wife Rickey who I had not seen in several years were able to attend. Also Denise Lyles Cook aka the Oracle was in attendance and they were as surprised as I when I was presented President Biden's Lifetime Achievement Award, which included a letter from him and a medallion from the Whitehouse. I wish to acknowledge Joao aka "Rockstar" who engineered my musical performance. I also wish to recognize Michelle Mras, the keynote speaker.

I have reason to celebrate. And may God give me the gift of breath to continue singing for more years to come. It is my pleasure to sing at the Hollywood Weekly Grammy Viewing gala in Santa Monica April 3, 2022. I am accompanied by wonderful musicians , Charlie Harrison on keyboard, Jimmie James on percussion, Budi Winarto on flute and sax, Jerrell Ballard on drums, Paul Maseli on guitar. This is all such a blessing. I live to sing , and sing to live and spread joy with my music.
