President's Message

We can all agree that 2020 was a tough year for many, including the Hollywood business community. As the COVID-19 pandemic spread, businesses large and small were subject to a patchwork of local, state, and federal mandates that often changed from day to day. Many of those regulations have carried over into 2021.

Restaurants and hotels have been among the hardest hit, but scores of other businesses have faced severe challenges as well. It has been a tough time for all, but the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has worked hard during the pandemic to help you and your fellow Chamber members meet the challenges, while also keeping you connected to the community. I wanted to take a moment to provide you with a brief overview of some of the things the Chamber accomplished this past year.

Since the stay at home order was issued in March 2020, we held over 40 virtual events. Through our town hall series, we engaged in conversations with our elected officials. We also pivoted to host our special events virtually. The Economic Development Summit and Entertainment Industry Conference were very successful and generated a great deal of engagement with our members. Overall, these events attracted over 2400 attendees. In March 2020, the Chamber launched Hollywood Unites to address the emerging needs of our most vulnerable residents and businesses, alleviate the detrimental economic impact on local employers and their employees, and provide vital resources to our community to help them through these uncertain times created by the COVID-19 pandemic

The Foundation launched its Room for Success pilot program at the Heroes of Hollywood event. Room for Success is a program designed to empower the lives of local college students experiencing homelessness by providing them with a safe place to live and connecting them with local partners that provide support services and resources.

The Chamber continued to monitor local, state and federal legislation that impacts the Hollywood business community. We sent out a total of 26 advocacy alerts to Chamber members, which fueled action - more than 6,800 emails were sent to elected officials as a result.

Beyond that, the Chamber’s Legislative Action and Economic Development committees held their first meetings of 2021, and we hosted the Chamber’s inaugural Homelessness Summit. It was an incredible 2-day summit with difficult, but very much needed conversations that brought us together as a community.

Let’s face it, 2020 was the kind of year we would all like to forget. The health crisis is not over yet, but with vaccines now in distribution throughout Southern California, our economy is sure to recover. And our team at the Hollywood Chamber is here to help you move forward!
