Working with light and its impact on our lives has always been something our studio has considered extremely fascinating. Light does not just help us see in the dark, it helps influence our moods and feelings, whether we are indoors or outdoors. Innovation is the central impulse of development. Based on a passion for lighting and design, extensive trend and market research, and in-depth knowledge of product development, Holscher Design Copenhagen based design team over the years succeeded in creating a range of timeless, elegant and often industry changing lighting fixtures. Trusting our intuition has always allowed us to create products that become icons, establishing new typologies and innovative archetypes. In today’s extremely dynamic and constantly expanding market, we try to not only keep our eye on the big picture, but also always to act with the future in mind. The collaboration with the international design studio Holscher Design gave Simes a projector light that sets the stage for architecture; Stage gracefully articulates what its surroundings wish to communicate. Urban Moon Urban Moon is a city- lighting fixture in a modern design by Holscher Design. The fixture has a discreet appearance in the daylight and creates a comfortable and safe atmosphere during the night. The opal, inner white globe, the energy efficient LED, and the new lens makes this a fixture suitable for any type of city. With its distinctive appearance, the Urban Moon combines functional road lighting with great design and beautiful aesthetics. The use of Philips’ round LEDGINE module ensures that all functional lighting requirements are met.
In cities, Urban Moon is the perfect crossover between the need for technical city- and road lighting and the desire for architectural lighting. Urban Moon UrbanMoon is a lighting fixture designed for larger roads, streets, city centres and open areas, and is the latest design in the successful collaboration between Philips and Holscher Design. The fixture is discrete during the day, blending into the street scene. At night, it helps set a comfortable and reliable atmosphere. The opal, inner white dome, the energy effective LED and the new optic makes this design stable and suitable for any city. The UrbanMoon is ideal for roads, streets, city centres, pedestrian ways and open areas. UrbanMoon is designed to give new life and ambience to its surroundings, without disturbing the architecture, facades or overall expression of an area.

Bell The expression of the Bell pendant lamp is robust, the form is simple. With its industrial, yet friendly look this directional lamp is ideal for both home decors and professional environments. The lamp’s rounded silhouette and matt surface give it the impression of having been cast. The white inner side reflects the light, which falls like a cone and provides practical lighting for several purposes. The tactile differences between the materials create a clean, minimalistic look. SG Frame Frame is an attractive modern luminaire with direct light. The luminaire can be mounted on both walls and ceilings, indoors and outdoors. Available as square, round or rectangular in several sizes. Flat diffuser made of UV-stabilized opal polycarbonate. Variants are available with sensor, dusk and wireless. Two inputs and outputs for cables, both visible and hidden cabling and loopable quick clips. Produced In die-cast, powder-coated aluminum in black, white or graphite.

Cyclop Holscher Cyclop is made of powder-lacquered cast aluminium. Its clear, geometric shape is accentuated in the dark as the fixture lights itself up. With its downward angled prismatic diffuser, it is well suited for one or two sides of a doorway, or alternatively mounted in a long row to illuminate both the facade and footpath alongside.

Primula Series Primula is a series of outdoor lighting based on effective, non-glaring illumination, optimising the light from its source. Primula uses a combination of optical elements, also making use of stray light. The basic component is a symmetrical reflector transmitting light from the source directly to the top reflector, ensuring an effective distribution.The other optical element is white reflecting rings, utilizing the light which is not hitting the reflector. The stray light is collected and used by the white rings, without affecting the lamp’s efficiency. Primula’s top and base are constructed of heat-galvanized steel pipe, finished in flat, grey powdered lacquer. The shade is made of impact-resistant polycarbonate, and the white reflector rings are made of lacquered aluminium. Aarhus Lightrail AAL Since 2012, Holscher Design has acted as design consultant for Aarhus Lightrail. Our full- service design agency has assisted with projects of various scale and character, melting shareholder, stakeholder and client’s interests into a coherent design identity spanning from service- and technical buildings, OCM and rolling stock (by Stadler Rail AG, Switzerland) to graphic design, manuals and interior design. Apart from that, Holscher Design is responsible for the design of the platform, including furniture, technical equipment and shelter in close collaboration with AFA JCDecaux and AAL. “ To avoid poles on the platforms and keep light interference low, the light sources are partly placed in the fence. This low light setting provides the platforms with a characteristic atmosphere within the urban context.” letbanen.dk

Flos Pure Pure is the third series we have developed for the renowned Italian lighting manufacturer Flos. Precise briefings and a close collaboration with the product development group at Flos resulted in a very positive and rewarding collaboration. The aim with Pure was to create a collection of accent spotlights that adapts to a large number of different situations, always emphasizing the architectural context and the object enlightened. Three innovative aspects are implied: ¡ The transformer box is fixed in its position, hiding the adaptor and thus achieving a homogeneous expression. ¡ The possibility to lock the beam position with a release button ¡ All movements - tilting and rotation are unified in one single joint. We have received numerous awards for Pure, here among the prestigious German Design Prize/ Silver Award.

The MileWide luminaries1+2 Philips Lighting focuses on providing innovative solutions centered on the end-user and energy-efficient solutions and applications for lighting, based on a deep understanding of customer needs, both at home and in public spaces. With new lighting technologies such as LED technology and the increasing demand for energy saving solutions, Philips will continue developing groundbreaking new lighting products. Holscher Design has designed two street light systems for Philips – the Philips MileWide and the Philips MileWide 2 – made for the MileWide road accessories.

Quinta Quinta spotlights are characterized by basic mechanical functions that never have been used in this way before. The spotlights are rotating and tilting the light beam within clearly defined angles. The set directions of the beam is fixed to avoid accidental change of set lighting alignment. In the development of Quinta spotlight, Holscher Design designed angle-measuring details, which clearly indicate what the range can do. The luminaire triggers are comparable to a sextant, whose accurate anglemeasuring precision, is mirrored by Quinta in the way it allows rotation and tilt angles to be selected and locked. Rotation and tilt angles are indicated on pinions within gear ring guides. Quinta spotlights are in cast aluminium and available in white and silver.

“Light, a scenografic tool in the city hub” Holscher Design takes part in the PhD project “Light, a scenografic tool in the city hub” together with Associate Professor Mette Hvass, Aalborg University – Copenhagen Light Dept. and Schréder. The project will investigate the impact of lighting on human behavior in the city’s hubs, examining the following research questions: Behavior - What impact does city lighting have on human behavior? Mobility - How can mobility in the city be optimized with lighting? Context - How will urban space utilization be changed and increased if lighting fits into the specific location of the city and is adapted to time of day, season and weather? The results created by Aalborg University, Holscher Design and Schréder, can be used as inspiration to new ways of lighting, design of lighting fixtures and development of intelligent lighting control in the urban context.

SMART LIGHTING Holscher Design is constantly updated on ”Smart City” initiatives,characterized through knowledge and data-based guiding and distributing of ressources. The introduction of LED armatures and intelligent control systems in our cities support the global goals for reduction of CO2 emissions and energy saving. Urban outdoor lighting is an infrastructure enhancing the installation of ”Smart City” platforms, which reach far beyond optimization of lighting. Intelligent light poles open for new opportunities of smart lighting solutions within way-finding, navigation and supervision.
LIGHT PLANNING Light Planning is about creating surroundings that fit into the needs of our client’s, cities and people. Light is an integral part of architecture and urban contexts, solved by thoughtful use of daylight as well as artificial light. Interior lighting shapes architectural spaces and is a means for creating atmosphere. Our urban surroundings are likewise dependent on thoughtful light setting to provide differentiated spaces and safe and pleasurable experiences throughout the day. In other words, space is created by light!
HUMAN CENTERED For us, light is the substance for expressing new ideas and illuminating un-explored emotions. As architects and designers, we are passionate about how light can help to define and limit spaces, both in public and in private. Artificial lighting has a great impact on the physiology of people; light can make you tired or boost you with energy. Through a human centered focus, we direct light towards specific behaviors and needs in people’s everyday life - fully aware of the impact light has on our wellbeing and health.
TECH TRENDS The technical development within light sources, intelligent light control, and integration of digital solutions is moving fast. We follow along closely, and we constantly widen our knowledge in collaboration with researchers, specialists, and manufacturers to be first movers in investigating the possibilities they offer in terms of smarter products and businesses. We believe that we in the near future will see less traditional luminaires, but instead experience an increased focus on integrated light in buildings, furniture, roads and urban spaces.
CIRCULAR LIGHTING At Holscher Design, we strongly support our client’s strategy towards the business model of circular lighting. Customers simply buy the light they need for a certain period of time, while allowing other parties to take care of details such as installation of equipment, service and performance. Due to rapid changes in the market and lighting industry, we invest in designing light solutions with an increased focus on the product’s sustainability. We as designers provide luminaires, that are easy to decompose and upgrade, maintain and recycle – in order to provide optimum performance over time. This has proved valuable to both us and our clients in a broader term.

The Metro Totem The Metro information totem is a sculptural landmark, reflecting the city life during daytime, while turning into a glowing column at night, when orientation is difficult. The cylinder in stainless steel acts as a skeleton on which transparent, perforated panels are attached. Metro Totem is the result of a 1st prize in the competition issued by Ă˜restadsselskabet. Holscher Design has completed the design and delivery of Metro information totems in collaboration with the engineering firm Hansen & Henneberg, Ib Andresen and Ă˜restadsselskabet.
