Creating Sanitary ”We do not wish to outshine the architecture in which we place our products, but rather complement it. The human should have the lead role in every environment. That is the reason why we as designers most often create sanitary solutions as adapters between the walls, ceiling or floor and the humans using it. The desired functions should be intuitive for all types of end-users, whether you are primary user or the person who maintains the sanitary products. As Knud Holscher has said it so many times: “Design for the architectural context is comparable to buttons on a shirt. You can own a very fine shirt, and you can choose how much recognition its buttons should have.” The shirt is comparable to the space. The buttons - the products - can either upgrade the space or tune it down. From our perspective this is a striking metaphor. Sanitary products should be perceived as parts of the context and in accordance to their functionality. HOLSCHER DESIGN

Aiming high together Holscher Design and Pressalit have been collaborating around the design of toilet seats for Ifö/ Geberit for 40 years. Always with the user in focus, the Pressalit toilet seats are designed with functional innovations as soft-close, integrated release-buttons, and automatic closing systems. Furthermore, best hygiene is supported by integrated lift handles in the cover to avoid direct hand contact wih the seat. Small changes that turn a necessity into a good experience.

Colours Four sophisticated solid RAL colours join our offer, created to pair with our minimal designs. The colours occupy a scale that starts and ends with Black and White as its two extremes, with darker, richer Dusty Grey and paler, cooler Telegrey occupying the space between. The colours are created as much with mixing as with matching in mind – both to other sanitary ware and to purpose. Bathroom accessories in white, for example, are perfect for spaces like hospitals, as white denotes cleanness and implies sterility, making patients feel reassured. Our products have long been created in premium metals (see below), but now we’ve added to the possibilities in both aesthetics and hygiene, through our work with physical vapour deposition (PVD). With it we can now create our levers and sanitary ware in a brushed satin or a polished finish, in gunmetal, copper, charcoal and brass.

PVD Finishes The use of PVD also means a warmer look can be created with our designs. Our development of the four finishes has resulted in combinations of materials and colours such as charcoal against smoked oak, while the brass was added for the low-fi glimmer it provides in darker spaces within restaurants, hotels and private homes – an elegant look that fits with our belief in timelessness over trends.

In their technical design, installation and maintenance are key focuses, to meet the need for impeccable hygiene no matter how long they live in a space. Simple and modular, the d line sanitary rangeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s AISI 316 rust-resistant, noncorrosive, marine quality steel stands up to the high humidity levels of the bathroom, while its subtle curved edges and functional circular hole details are a nod to the bend in our first ever products, the L and U lever handles by Knud Holscher. Both internally and externally, every detail of every d line sanitary piece is rigorously tested for seamless functioning so that it endures. Then, assisted by the most cutting-edge machinery in our field, each is expertly crafted by hand.

Spira Holscher Design has been the main designer for the Swedish manufacturer of bathroom sanitary Ifö for the past 37 years. In this period, the brand has become the most widely used in large parts of Scandinavia. Over one million toilet units per year are produced at the Ifö factory. High quality seats for the toilets are developed in close collaboration with the Danish manufacturer Pressalit. Spira is - for now - the latest of four extensive series for Ifö, with a wide range of bathroom porcelain and furniture. Spira toilet’s innovation is rim-free, which helps avoid lime scale formation, and makes the toilet easy to clean. Spira combines the qualities of Scandinavian design and are highly efficient production methods.

Berendsen Washroom The Berendsen Washroom line is a range of hygiene dispensers for common washrooms. Each product is designed to function efficiently and to make the daily routines of both primary users and maintenance workers easy and hygienic. The outer layer is designed to give the various elements a uniform look. A wide range of colours and surfaces allow you to choose according to preferences and brand. The colored covers are treated with a patented soft paint and all products have an antibacterial surface that reduce germs and cut down on employee illness. Barrier - Free d line’s move into barrier-free is about enabling people, and as with many of the products we design, our leap into this important new area started with a need. When we were approached by the House of Disabled People’s Organisations Denmark to create truly universal architectural ironmongery for the world’s most accessible office building, the organisation’s inspiring ambition to democratise daily life instantly became part of our thinking at d line. We realised that, with 10 per cent of the Western population suffering from a disability and with the global population living longer, our energies could be put into products that, while being attractive, could make life easier and better for all.
