Carmen “Stephanie” Nuñez: Madonna of the Streets (art

Madonna of the Streets

Stephanie Nuñez

Charcoal. 18 by 24 inches.

This drawing replicates Roberto Ferruzzi’s painting Madonnina 1897. This is a portrait of Mary and Jesus (as it is commonly interpreted). I selected this image because it has followed me in life, originally from influence of my mother who had a large painting of this in her room in my grandmother’s house. In this image of Mary and Jesus, the child is asleep comfortably and trustingly in Mary’s arms. By choosing to replicate this image, I want to show the possibility of finding comfort and love by trusting in Mary.
