At the request of the graduating class of 1990, this yearbook is dedicated to Mr. William Kellagher, a Humanities Major who passed away in June 1989 at the age of 74. Otherwise known simply as "Bill",William J. Kellagher served as a guiding light to many and an inspiration to all. Essentially, however, Bill was our friend. It appeared that he valued people' friendship more than life itself, or perhaps Bill may have understood what Aristotle proclaimed more than two thousand years ago "Friendship is a kind of virtue or implies virtue. It is also indispensable to life ... Friends are helpful to us, when we are young', as guarding us from error, and when we are old, as taking care of us... and when we are in the prime of our life, as prompting us to noble actions, according to the adage, 'two come together'; for two people have a greater power both of intelligence and of action than either of the two by himself." Forever striving to make this world a better place, while realizing that love need be a main ingredient, William Kellagher was in the truest sense a humanitarian. His many endeavors and accomplishments did not go unnoticed and will not be forgotten, as a special part of Bill now rests in the hearts of all who called him "friend". Ultimately William Kellagher's life was a success, and although this description conjures different ideas in each of us, I believe success is best defined in the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "That person is a success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent people, and the affection of children ... who appreciates beauty and finds the best in others ... who knows that even one life has breathed easier because he or she has lived. This is to have succeeded". On May 12, 1990, William Kellagher will have graduated with the remainder of the Senior Class of Holy Family College, and although Bill will not be present in body, his spirit will be felt by all who knew and loved him. Thank You, Bill.

A GOLDEN PATH FOR A GOLDEN FUTURE Dear Students,
Sister M. Francesca,
C.S.F.N. President
The years we spend in pursuit of an undergraduate degree are years replete with a variety of experiences and personal dramas. We set out with a certain amount of fear and trepidation, ususally accompanied by an equal amount of enthusiasm and optimism. We will be successful; we will overcome. Somewhere along the way in the course of these years, there occurs a process of development; our minds and our perceptions of the world about us seem to change directions. We confront new realities and heretofore hidden or unknown truths. We become aware of global issues past and current which are given equal status to, or priority over, the once all-important world of self. We discover that we are a part of a larger and more complex system and that our experiences are shared by many others throughout the world and through the ages. This discovery does not in any way diminish the importance of our individual pursuits and goals. We are, after all, here to develop our abilities and talents to the fullest measure possible in order to fulfillour part and play our role in the larger dimension of human history. No one of us can go unnoticed; no one of us is unaccounted for in this life. What we do and who we become is immeasurably important to the totality of life. When these truths are recognized and accepted, each daily encounter in the pursuit of our educational goals takes on special meaning and significance. While we are busy becoming, we are also affecting the becoming of the universe. The path we are forging, with its myriad complexities and intricacies, is marking the future for ourselves and for others. What we do with each opportunity afforded us can never be reproduced by another, and the opportunity will not be given a second time. Surrounding us are persons and events which help to complete the mosaic of our life. It is up to us to take each piece and place it where it can produce the best and most worthwhile masterpiece. What wonderful opportunities are ours during these formative years of intellectual pursuit. What priceless challenges are given us each day. Let us be wise in the acceptance and use of each God-given chance. Let us fashion for ourselves and others a better path than the one which has preceded us. Sincerely,

As student leaders each of you is to be commended for the role you have played on campus during this academic year. Though you have kept a relatively low profile, the .nergy you have expended has not been wasted or gone unnoticed. Though it seemed that the odds have been against you at times (or at least the weather) you continue to work, smile and succeed. Saint Theresa once said that "occasions do not make a man fail, but rather show what he is." You have shown yourselves to be undaunted, hard-working and pelsevering in spite of difficulties. For that I commend you. I hope that each of you continues to play a leadership role in life as I congratulate you, and wish you good luck and God's blessings. Sister M. Patrice

Still, the Class of 1990 seems different. Perhaps, Governor Casey's talk at Commencement made a difference. Perhaps it was the dedication of Bill Kellagher Walk, —a lasting memorial to their fellow classmate. We might not know exactly how, but the Class of 1990 will be heard from time and again in Holy Family' future.

I think of beginnings when I read this line from a wonderful poem and I think of you, the freshman class. Beginnings, while uncertain, sometimes uneasy and unsettling, are also exciting and challenging. As
your first year at Holy Family College draws to a close, look back on your beginnings and see how you have grown, personally and intellectually. These are your "days in the sun". Cherish these times.
