Holy Family May 13, 2006 Dear Graduates, Mohandas (Mahatma) K. Gandhi, Indian ascetic and nationalist leader once said:

"Be the change you wish to

see

in the world."

This is a wonderful and fitting quote chosen as the Familogue's yearbook theme for the graduating class

of 2006.

Both you and Holy Family University have and will continue to go through a lifetime of change. All of you at one time or another will have an opportunity to make a positive effect on the world, no matter how significant or insignificant this effect may seem. Gandhi also observed: "Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it." Just as you have grown and changed during your years of study at Holy Family University so, too, has the University. Holy Family University has been a constant presence particularly in Northeast Philadelphia for the past fifty-twoyears. We are proud of the visible expansion that has taken place in the University throughout the years, in particular the vitality of our three locations —Northeast Philadelphia, Newtown, and Woodhaven; the revival of residence life with the re-opening of Saint Joseph's Hall this past fall semester; and the grand opening of the John M. Perzel Education and Technology Center this past August. We believe your intellectual, moral and spiritual growth is reflected not only in your readiness to enter or re-enter the workforce, or to pursue your studies further, but also in the physical growth of Holy Family University. For without your personal goals, we could not achieve the University's goals.

We now welcome you, the Class of 2006, into our extended family of over 10,000 Holy Family alumni. A family that spans over twelve countries and six continents. As graduates of Holy Family University you are invited to assume a lifelong responsibility toward God, society, and self. We believe in and are proud of our alumni for making a positive change in the world. We hope that you enjoyed your time here at Holy Family University enough to return to it again as often as you like, as alumni to see the changes in the University and to reflect on your own personal changes. South African Civil Rights leader, Nelson Mandela, once reflected, "There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered." Holy Family University promises to be a constant for you in an ever-changing world. We trust Holy Family University has been a catalyst for a positive change in you based on the education you have received, an education grounded in the values of the Judeo-Christian tradition and reflecting the charism of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth. Take the time on this your graduation day to reflect on the growth you have experienced during your years of study at Holy Family University. We hope the mission and motto, "Teneor Votis," ("I am bound by my responsibilities" ) of our University have made an impact on you and will continue to inspire "you to be the change you wish to see in the world."

With best wishes and prayers, I remain

Sister Francesca Onley, CSFN, Ph.D. President

Congratulations "Dream Big" Author unknown

Ifthere

were ever a time to dare, To make a difference To embark on something worth doing It is now. Not for any grand cause, necessarilyBut for something that tugs at your hear Something that is worth your aspiration Something that is your dream. You owe it to yourself To make your days count. Have fun. Dig deep. Stretch.

Dream big.

Know, though, That things worth doing Seldom come easy, There will be times when you want to Turn around Pack it up and call it quits Those times tell you That you are pushing yourself And that you are not afraid to learn by trying. Persist.

Graduates

Because with an idea, Determination and the right tools, You can do great things.

Let your instincts, your intellect And let your heart guide you. Trust.

Believe in the incredible power Of the human mind Of doing something that makes a difference Of working hard Of laughing and hoping Of lasting friends Of all the things that will cross your path

Next year The start of something new Brings the hope of something great. Anything is possible There is only one you And you will pass this way but once.

Do it right.
